October 16, 1909 For the first time in their country’s history, American President William H. Taft and Mexican President Porfirio Díaz met for a summit in the El Paso-Juarez border to negotiate over the land commonly known as El Chamizal. President Taft hosted a traditional, conservative luncheon at the El Paso Chamber of commerce. President Diaz, staying true to his demeanor, served an opulent dinner in the old Federal Customs building in Juarez. Private discussions were had and plans were made. TAFT-DÍAZ serves as a testament that great things can flourish when you welcome others at your table. Our purveyors are as passionate about their produce, products, and the final experience as we are. Excellent Service! Francisco, who served us, was attentive to us at all times and each of his recommendations were excellent :), the best was the duck and the truffle soup, also the express martini. I recommend it 100%

Fun to be there. My medium rare steak was disappointingly overcooked. Our small table enjoyed the experience. Other food was on point though the steak for me was not and for the price youd expect precision.

Beautiful and elegant restaurant. Great for a date night. The overall rating is probably more accurate. The seasoning for entrees is a bit heavy on the salt for the scallops and chicken. The octopus chicharron was delicious. The drinks were good. The desert rain was great. Balanced.

Wow! Reviews brought me in. The restaurant in a hotel lobby was a little off-putting but don t let it stop you. Look past that to the art on the walls, the high quality glassware (and knives!) but best of all- the food. Love how this chef is making magic in downtown El Paso. Parking: Free street parking after 6

This a very clean, and beautiful place. Our server was great and everything came out fast since it was only my boyfriend and I and another couple there. Drinks were ok, nothing spectacular for the price. Food was very good. We ordered the cotechino, truffled duck and chicken roulade. The chicken roulade corn bread was made out of what Im guessing to be blue corn because it was darker inside which was very tasty coupled with the mushroom and demi glaze on the roulade. Some reviews are saying that the portion for the duck entre is small because it was two pieces of duck but the two pieces were good size for a person. However, I can see how the price doesnt justify the portions and the overall taste and concept of the dishes. It doesnt compel me to want to keep coming back to eat the food for the price.

Very surprised and impressed. The restaurant gives you lounge feel with the setup and music they play. What impressed me the most was the excellent service, better than the more expensive restaurants in the Borderland. What also impressed me was the food. From the clam chowder to the steak. Everything cooked to perfection. The steak was tender. I highly recommend this place.

Where to start with this review .. We really were looking forward to dinner- reviews were great and the menu looked very appetizing. The four of us came for dinner (and were hungry). The ambiance brings style and a nice vibe. We ordered 2 of the signature corn and truffle soup. Though I thought it was very good, she wasn t impressed with hers. We also had the Pea soup at the table that didnt Impress my other attendee. As for other items : meatball appetizer (good), mandarin / quinoa salad (ok- the amount of quinoa added an additional texture to what should have been a very tasty salad); the ribeye (very good). For desert we each had a spoon or two of both the tres leches and a chocolate/orange desert- and stopped there. None of us were interested In Finishing it. The service was slow and uninspiring. We left disappointed - I was really hoping to make this a 5-star review. Maybe we caught the restaurant and staff at the wrong time. Maybe it s us and we had an off night as eaters. Regardless, I m hoping to have another try next time I am in El Paso.

Best restaurant in El Paso for a more intimate dinner. We took our family and although the prices are high for the area, the food is exceptional. Being in the lobby of this quiet boutique hotel adds to the ambiance. The drinks were exceptional as was the lobster risotto (although a little more lobster wouldve been nice). Appetizers are great. When we go out for our favorite place in EP, this is it. Kid-friendliness: Not really although we took ours. Its meant to be a relatively quite setting.

This is definitely one of if not the best fine dining in El Paso. The food was exceptional, service was friendly, and the ambience was unique- we enjoyed the live jazz band as well. The price point is higher than most fine dining, but the food quality is worth it. Some places will not accommodate food changes to Chef s preparation but they were more than happy to oblige our dietary restrictions. Hope this restaurant can sustain it for the long haul.

Im terribly sorry not to give a great review, my expectations were high but the managers attitude really ruined my day! Ive made a reservation in open table and when we got there we were told the place closes at 2, so I guess open table have no idea about the hours, I asked for the manager and he said their hours are posted all over the media like I was supposed to know and kind of started arguing with me,, the waitress however, was super kind and patient but we were only offered the bar menu and it was ordinary and dull.I ended up ordering a burger, the fries were awesome but the burger was quite tasteless, my friend ordered tacos,, not exactly what we expected from this cuisine.. By fortune the waiter that arrived for dinner hours made a suggestion which was great, otherwise, I would have leave with the worst opinion about their food, this waiter was also very kind and clever, knows about service drinks and food and definitely about how to treat clients, also the guy who made our last dish came to our table and very kindly explained the dish,, which was delectable,, and these are the reasons I wish I could give this place a better review. I would like to give it a second chance cause I never got to see their regular menu which I believe is crafted by a very innovative chef, but by now, this visit was a waste Vegetarian options: I saw there were some veggie choices, didnt ordered any, but I know they have some

Entree portions are very small. Ordered the Lobster Spaghetti. Nothing special for the $50 spaghetti bowl comes with chopped lobster topped with butter sauce. The Truffled Duck Breast is very tasteful, but for a $50 entree it only comes with two slices of meat. No sides are included in the price. Also restaurant charges for water.

Stopped by for a drink and a quick bite. Got a dirty martini which was pretty good. Then ordered the Mexican Butter . OMG. Bone marrow, you get 3 bones and 3 tortillas. I had some bone marrow before but this was the absolute best Ive had so far in this city. The only bad thing Id have to say about my experience is that I couldnt fully express my full O Face each time I took a bite. I felt everyone was looking at me every time I picked up a bite. Its almost as if there was some improper PDA occurring but nothing was improper I can tell you that. This is one of those dishes that warrants a proper O Face. IFYKYK!

Staff was great welcoming and attentive. Atmosphere is relaxing. Food ok. I had better..

Think of this like the cafe restaurant cum bar in a trendy art gallery or niche musuem. Supposedly Stanton House, in which Taft Diaz sits, is a boutique hotel but actually its not especially good at being a hotel. Mostly its an art installation inside an architectural experiment. Which is fun, if not super practical. Food is good, although coming in overpriced very bijou portions. Barman is cheerful and keen.

I wasnt able to give Taft Díaz a chance for lunch or dinner, but from what I experienced for breakfast during my 3 day stay at Stanton House, their breakfast menu was subpar. The breakfasts plates are over priced ($14 for each of the entree photos shown) considering they dont include the side and the small portions. The fresh squeezed juice was amazing, but the taste of the entree was only okay. Hope to be able to return to try lunch or dinner for a better experience

My friend and I reserved for dinner last week, though I must say there were several things we were not expecting. I liked their dinning area, and I did see it was clean, organized, modern and a touch of singularity surrounded with beautiful art all around it. Lets talk about the food now. When Oscar (our waiter) provided with the bread which was good along with their cannela butter, gave us a broken plate. This is something I dont actually accept at any high rated restaurant, it is disappointing, I did not bother to return it back, my friend and I just took the piece of bread while waiting for our entrée. Now the dish that I ordered which was Ratatouille, was something rare to explain, I would leave that dish up to your opinion, though the mushrooms I feel is the only thing I can feel secure to tell you, they are out of this world, loved them. But overall 3.5 stars would be my rating.

Please take that lettuce off the duck breast entree, it really tastes awful. It doesnt make sense. I hate to leave a negative review, I really do but its the truth. Really enjoyed dinner at Taft Diaz tonight. It s located in the Stanton House Hotel downtown. The service was warm and attentive, and the food was excellent! The ambiance was very nice too .relaxed and easy-going, but trendy and chic at the same time, complete with individual jellyfish chandelier lights that descend and ascend 30 feet into an opening in the ceiling to the beat of the restaurant s music. Highly recommend.

The decor is beautiful and contemporary/trendy. Our server, Renee, was very knowledgeable about the offerings and engaged in an in-depth conversation with my colleague about whiskey - making numerous recommendations and receiving input as well. The tacos were gorgeous and delicious. My favorite was the Pork Al Pastor but Renee s recommendation of the Tempura Artichoke Taco was a close second. The cocktails were also pretty good.

I had the sea donkey (shrimp al pastor), they were good but not worth $9 each taco. Normal corn tortilla size with 1 small shrimp and small pieces cut up. Again flavor was good but each taco was over priced. My husband had the burger, should have gotten that instead. Was made exactly how he requested and tasted like Angus beef worth the price.

Way overpriced. Very mediocre service for the price of the food. I found the food to be nothing special for the gastro experience and price they are selling.

To begin the host and food really saved this reviewndue to the professionalism and quality. Being on the border it is hard to see spending so much for tacos, but the absolute delicious and presentation of these artistic delights were well worth it. Several variation were tried on the reduced menu. Unfortunately the table service was not anywhere close to the level that was expected from the onset of the host in setting the time of the visit. Drinks were always late, with no follow up but two waitresses that had a total of 3 tables so being overrun was not an excuse. Also the lack of dress code would have helped the already great ambiance and this well laid out restaurant design. Servers should be held Tina higher standard and know the menu and not offer dessert when it is not available.

My wife and I stayed at the Stanton House for Valentine s Day. Due to the winter storm that blew in, with all the snow and wind and ice, my wife did not want to go across town for dinner in heels and a mid-length dress. Alexander, the General Manager, worked with the staff and was able to get us a table for dinner. We opted for a lighter dinner, as we d had a heavy lunch and wanted to try as many things as possible without feeling like we d over eaten. Chef de Cuisine Jorge Ortiz saw us debating what to order. He kindly came over, asked us what kind of things we enjoyed, and made astute recommendations that we followed - braised beef and suadero tacos. We also had the Mexican butter and the chocolate heart for dessert, along with the raspberry rose spritz. Everything was absolutely outstanding. The service was great, and we really appreciated the efforts of all involved to make our night memorable.

Few places in El Paso offer an experience. Without a doubt, Taft-Diaz fulfills that desire. Upon entering the Stanton House, you know you re not stepping into a small venue. The high ceiling and marble surfaces, complete with large front windows make for a well-lit welcome. While I do enjoy the Taft-Diaz breakfast and lunch menus, I believe my dining experience truly shines during dinner service. As the late afternoon gives way to the evening, the lights are lowered everywhere, you will find that the open kitchen concept of Taft-Diaz will bring you into the dining area as it illuminates the dining room like a warm, cozy hearth. The following is a short recollection of one of my visits to this gem in the heart of downtown El Paso. One Tuesday evening I m craving something different, something tasty and (honestly) upscale. As I enter the hotel lobby, Bryan welcomes me with a courteous hello . I tell him I wish to dine in and he directs me to the Taft-Diaz dining room. Alan, one of the servers, escorts me to an available table and asks me how my day had been. I tell him it had been a long day and I was there to put myself at the whims of his recommendations, to which he happily obliges. As an appetizer he recommends the aguachile. I agree and order a glass of sauvignon blanc, slightly chilled. About five minutes later, I get my appetizer. Served in a small wooden bowl, with a collection of shrimp and crunchy, fresh vegetables, Taft-Diaz s aguachile proved a magnificent item with which to pair my glass. Even though the veggies were thinly sliced, they did not loose an iota of crunchiness and the bay scallops practically dissolved upon taste. Bold in flavor, yet not overwhelmingly so, it proved to be a tasty way to open my appetite. No visit to Taft-Diaz is complete without having at least one of Chef Ortiz s tacos. This was not to be an exception. I requested Alan for a suggestion, to which he proposed a Sea Donkey . Essentially, a delicious shrimp taco prepared al pastor . If I am to assume correctly, the protein was seasoned the same way al pastor tacos are. Whatever the case may be, the taco did not disappoint. I was brought three different salsas. The first, an arbol salsa, not for the faint-hearted, as it packed a long-lasting punch. The second, a habanero ash salsa, oily in texture and full of the signature sting of a habanero chile, with a shorter life-span on the palate. The third, a personal favorite, the diced toreado chiles, tasty and tangy. I tasted all three with separate bites of my Sea Donkey. Not a bad way to enjoy a taco. Noticing a bit of a pattern, I decide to order a glass of chardonnay and succumb to a third suggestion (and undoubtedly a dish to remember): Al Mojo. This cooked pez escolar earned a special place in my food memories from the very first bite. Soft, juicy, tasty, and with just the right texture, al mojo is something I will forever suggest to anyone visiting Taft-Diaz so long as it is in the menu. The fact that this small slice of deliciousness sits atop a creamy layer of risotto made every single bite more savory than the last. I suggest you ask for some ciabatta bread, it goes great with the risotto. Five minutes, and one al mojo, later, Alan brings over the aptly-sized flat plate containing my dessert. Both soft and crunchy, as well as coupled with the taste of dairy and sweet strawberry, I was ready to finish off my evening. Whether you feel like having a large meal or simply a taco or two, Taft-Diaz has something to satisfy the palate. The service is always prompt, apt, and courteous. I would be remiss not to mention the people who make all of the Taft-Diaz food possible from the kitchen (Lucho, Rocha, Quique, David, and of course, Chef Ortiz) to the servers (Paulina, Mari Pau, Alan, and Christina) to the talented bartenders (Natalie and Monica), and the many others that create the dining experience that is Taft-Diaz. I look forward to many more delicious meals and the new items this wonderful kitchen will surprise me with next.

Cocktails are well prepared and there is an art gallery on the second floor with local artist that adds to the unique atmosphere. Very well thought out ambiance. Most horrible dinner experience by far! We went during valentines weekend when they had the tasting menu of 4 courses. Between the two of us and the 8 dishes, only one dish was edible. I Mentioned to the waitress early on that the courses didn t meet our expectations and no one did anything about it. They just kept bringing the remaining of the nasty courses. This place didn t meet the expectation nor the cost. I m not one to write reviews but I do when the place is either extremely good or externally bad. This one was bad. Waste of money and valentines dinner evening ruined. I give it 0 stars.

My boyfriend and i came here for a valentines dinner only to expect the worst. Our reservation was at 7:45pm only to be seated at 8pm. We didn t get offered wine only water which was strange and very rude. We waited a while for the course to be given to us, and we were at the restaurant for almost 3 hours to finish!!! We were furious because a table sitting next to us got sat and were given their course of meal in a matter of 30 minutes and left before us. I think our server just had too many tables and wasn t keeping up. For almost spending $300 that night was not worth it. We will not be returning.

On December 23, 2019, my daughter called Taft Diaz to ask if they could seat our party of 6. Upon arrival, I was disappointed with the casual dining atmosphere of the restaurant. When the server asked for our drink orders, I ordered a Bloody Mary. I was informed they were out of tomato juice, then ordered a Mojito. My husband ordered 7 & 7 which most people working in the bar/restaurant industry would know is bourbon and 7 up. The server looked very puzzled when he ordered. He had to explain what 7 & 7 was. The server said all they had was sprite, which was fine. When our drinks arrived, my mojito was flat & my husband s bourbon & sprite was also flat. The server indicated something was wrong with the soda gun, but it had been fixed. The drinks were sent back for another try and again, returned flat. When it was time to order our food, my daughter ordered a filet mignon and was informed they only had one left, a surprise, since it was only 6:30 p.m. and very few patrons in the restaurant. Upon requesting our check at the end of the evening we noticed we were charged $42.00 for 6 bottles of water. When the server asked for our water request at the beginning of the meal, we ordered still water, thinking we would be served house water. One of my daughters requested to speak with a manager and was informed they had no manager or assistant manager on duty. The server said she would try and call him and later informed us she couldn t reach him. My daughter left her contact information with the server believing a manager would contact her. As of today no one has contacted her. Upon paying the bill we were informed by another server, the $42.00 in bottled water had been removed from our bill. We we re recommended the restaurant by several friends who shared their positive experiences and love for the new restaurant. Unfortunately, our expectations did not meet their recommendations. The food was was mediocre nothing memorable, but with a check reflecting prices of Cafè Central...we would have much rather spent our time and money at the Central. Perhaps the restaurant was having an off night but we were underwhelmed and frankly disappointed in our meal and overall experience.

Went here with coworkers. The decor was simple and contemporary. They have a sommelier and an open kitchen; allowing clear visibility as the chefs prepare your food. There are lights extending down from the ceiling, with fabric-flower petals going up and down. They serve fresh bread with a green Chile butter, that is delicious while you order.and wait for your food. Tried several dishes, they were all delicious, made with fresh ingredients. Prices are what are expected for the quality and ambiance of this restaurant. Not inexpensive. I would definitely recommend and will return to try the aged rib-eye!

It was a pleasant experience. The food was good (Im no connoisseur, so I wont pretend), but it looked and tasted like someone cared about it. The flavors were definitely different from your average restaurant so I would say they merit the price difference. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, its small and you have a decent view of the kitchen from most of the tables. The dancing lamps are a nice touch Jacqueline was our server she was very attentive and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. We were offered a tour of several of the guest rooms and Carlos, the butler for the night, showed us 3 different rooms.

I ordered a house salad with chicken breast, they did not update their menu to advise that they no longer had a house salad. The salad I received had old wilted lettuce, and no acidity to the vinaigrette causing a very bland dish. The white onion soup was also vastly disappointing as the soup lacked salt and flavor. Although creamy, and topped with cilantro and roasted corn, the lack of salt and counter flavor like acid or spice left the soup to be a major disappointment. Overall, I feel like they are trying too hard to be upscale and different and stray away from the fundamentals of cooking with balancing flavors.
