It is truly incredible to see and hear about how the Magoffin family lived through generations in this home. The staff is very knowledgeable about several aspects of the house and as well as the family s personal lives. I had the opportunity to bring my son to a family reading event that included an activity and snacks. I found out about this on their instagram page where they often post about camps and events for kids and families to bring notice to this beautiful historical site.

Beautiful, illustrative and educational historic site in El Paso, Texas. The tour shows us how a Magoffin family for 3 generations in approximately 110 years lived and adapted their home with love, patience, perseverance and good taste. Travel through history and imagine what those beautiful family gatherings were like in that home. I would have liked to be there. Getting there and parking there was easy. Very friendly staff. Comfortable entry prices. I would return with my family at any opportunity

Place that belonged to three generations of the Magoffin Family. It has all the belongings in original condition belonging to each generation as well as its decoration. Each generation added some change that is reflected in its construction. It will soon close to recondition it since the construction is very old and with materials from that time. It has a minimum cost where they give a tour and explain the different generations and changes that each generation made.

It is an old house, it tells the story of the Magoffin family, Mr. and Mrs. Magoffin invested money and time to make the step what it is today... Mr. Magoffin went to other states to look for people with money and convinced some to invest their money in opening businesses in El Paso Tx.. Mrs. Magoffin also did many charitable works for those in need. The house has antique furniture, photos, clothing and ornaments.. In short, it is a very nice story. and I recommend that you visit it if you can...

This place is so amazing!! My favorite museums are house museums ...especially if it seems like people just walked away. This is that! It is full of treasurers...including exquisite clothes in the closets and the table set (with photos and stories about the family). It is beautiful educational and charming. Our guide Gracie was so great.

First of all, I would like to thank Ms. Sharon for taking us to visit this monument that has been preserved with all the efforts. Her elegant temperament, detailed explanations, and enthusiastic attitude made me admire her endlessly. We even interacted like old friends. The young and beautiful girl at the front desk was also very kind and enthusiastic. She also recommended another Chinese-related attraction to me. The tickets were so cheap that when I wanted to give her a tip as a thank you, she suggested I donate it to the museum. They need more funds to invest in repairing and protecting this historical site. The introduction to this old building in Wikipedia is in English. I have posted the Chinese translation below, hoping to show it to more Chinese people. Magoffin Home is located in El Paso, Texas. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. On February 19, 1985, the surrounding area was declared the Magaffie Historic District. Under authority from the Texas Historical Commission, the home is now known as the Magalfin State Historic Site. Built in 1875 as a combination of local adobe style with Greek Revival details, the Magoffin Home is an example of the Territorial Style. Thick adobe walls keep the house cool in the hot summers and warm in the winter. The house consists of three wings, each built at a different time, with the last one built in the 1880s as a center connecting the first two wings. There are 19 rooms, eight fireplaces and 14-foot (4.3-meter) ceilings. Family members lived in it for 109 years, and much of the original furniture is still on display, including an 11.5-foot-tall (3.5-meter) half-test bed. Built by pioneer Joseph Magoffin, he and his wife Octavia (MacGreal) lived there until their deaths. They had two children, James (Jim) and Josephine. James married Anne Buford and had four children, Anne, James, Mary and Jim. After James died of appendicitis in 1913, Anne continued to care for her father-in-law at the homestead until his death in September 1923. Josephine married William Jefferson Glasgow, a future brigadier general, in what one lavish newspaper hailed as the wedding of the century. After Josephs death, Josephine inherited the house and James family settled in Los Angeles, where Anne lived until her death in 1962. The last family member to live in the house was Josephines daughter Octavia Magoffin Glasgow, who died in 1986. After retiring from the Army, the Glaswegian returned to El Paso, Texas, and remodeled the interior of his home, installing gas heating and electrical service, updating the plumbing, and modernizing the kitchen. The transformation included plastering directly over her mothers Victorian wallpaper and removing the canvas ceilings (mantas). In 1976, the house was sold to the city and state, although Josephs granddaughter, Octavia Magoffin Glasgow, retained the life lease and continued to live in the house until her death in 1986. The house was restored in 1977-1978 by historic preservationist Eugene George, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture. The homestead is located at 1120 Magogin Avenue in El Paso, Texas and is currently jointly owned by the City of El Paso and the State of Texas. It has been maintained by the Texas Historical Commission since 2007, when the agencys authority was transferred from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which had overseen the historic site since 1976. There is a historical marker. Casa Magoffin Companeros (Friends of Magoffin Home) hosts several annual events at the home, including childrens camps and classes during the summer, and a holiday open house in December. Family tours are offered Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last tour starts at 4pm. Tour tickets and unique gifts can be purchased at the Visitor Center located across the street from the home at 1117 Magalfin Avenue.

A must-see when you visit El Paso, Texas... the Magoffin House represents part of El Pasos history. Built of adobe in 1875, it was continuously inhabited by the Magoffin family for almost 110 years. The house is fully furnished as in those years and if you add to that how interesting the tour is, you will greatly enjoy the place. The patriarch of the family, Joseph Magoffin, born in Mexico to a Mexican mother and Irish father, was a very important character in the history and development of El Paso. Visiting the Magoffin House is like going back in time. You will not regret visiting this place. In addition, it is located in the center of the city, so access is quite easy.

We visited the home on Thursday, September 21. My spouse learned of the site while visiting with our daughter-in-law and newest grandson (dad is overseas for awhile). We were NOT disappointed! Ms. Garza (please forgive me if the name is incorrect) did a wonderful job of guiding us around this treasure. She also provided some excellent conversation as well and tailored the tour to our interests (especially my spouses fibercraft fetish!) As an amateur historian, I tend to be critical (probably unfairly) of such site visits. But I truly enjoyed this visit and look forward to returning. I highly recommend a visit to anyone.

Then, the guide walked us to the Magoffin Home and narrated to us the information on the building construction, pointed out design features, went over the interior design, the dates, and family history. We then went to the exterior courtyard, where he went over the original property design and many more interesting historical facts of the family and development of El Paso. I ve been wanting to visit this Historic Texas Household since 2020, but the pandemic happened and y all know the rest of the story. I was able to visit El Paso and took the time to visit the Magoffin Home. As I walked in the visitor center, I was warmly welcomed by Ms. Gloria. I paid the admission and we walked toward the house. When Ms. Gloria opened the front door and welcomed me to enter the historic home, one is transported to another era. The original floors, original doors and hardware. The 140 year old Piano so beautiful! I got to see Uncle Charlie s Chair. The Master Bedroom was beautiful, but Ms. Josephine s Bedroom was lavish. Original bathtub and sink, prayer room. It was so cool! Ms. Gloria did a wonderful job giving me a tour. She has a sweet, pleasant voice. She gave so many historical accounts of the family, house, and the surrounding neighborhoods. She is knowledgeable and informative, ready to answer all my questions. Defined recommended!

Wow, what a nice historic home. It had lots of great personal items from the Era and the construction is wonderful with an except for the wall that is currently braced and being repair. That repair is being managed by professionals so it made me feel that the stewards were taking care of the historic landmark the right way. The tour guide was personable and enjoyable. She was very knowledgeable about the building, the family and the El Paso history of the time. For a Saturday, there was only a couple of visitors. Not busy at all. The home is air conditioned so visiting during a hot day is just fine. The fee to get in is very reasonable, less than many state or national historic budings. As much as the guide was knowledgeable, Im a bit disappointed walking away from the home after the tour. I feel like there was so much more she could have told us about the home itself, to help transport us back in time and imagine being there with the family sharing their experiences. So much happened in the home. If I understand its history, the home and the family in it was such a staple of the beginnings of El Paso. What stories there must have been. The guide did in fact tell us some of those amazing stories but only if we asked about specific items in the home. Thats okay, but during tours in the historic homes and castles in the United Kingdom, you didnt need to ask. The guide would transport you back with no effort on your part to make you a part of that history. This is just a suggestion to elevate the experience. Otherwise, I felt there was too few rooms in the home. I would have enjoyed seeing the historic kitchen, a favorite part of a home for me, so to understand the cooking of the Era. Anyway, still a nice walk to a classic adobe territorial home. Man, they dont make them like that anymore. I really enjoyed the experience!

The tour of the house is great. The backstory of the family is amazing. Learning that the original couple came to settle in El Paso and worked hard to get everything they had really makes you feel like doing more with our life.

It has history that el paso is proud of but there really wasnt much of it to see. The grounds were immaculate and well kept.

Like the reviews suggest, the steak burrito smothered in chile con queso was very good. Service was acceptably prompt considering how busy they were. Prices were fair and our server was very courteous and attentive.
