Its a very small place, its not worth what it costs. And they have some animals with very little water and in a very small space, like otters and porcupines. In addition, there are many misunderstandings by some employees who do not know how to speak Spanish. I dont recommend it, what you can see is what they have already uploaded in the photos in the comments.

Inadequate enclosures, deplorable conditions, and tortuous situations for all the animals. Not only was the Wallaby killed due to their inattentiveness, But both wallabies were being given a wrong formula! More proof that these people are So inexperienced This is the most depressing place Ever. Do not visit. The owners robotically say they are USDA compliant. That is only after the USDA forces them to be and the USDA cannot be there everyday. I am sure most if not Everyday they would be in violation of Something, like the day the Wallaby was killed.

The place is cool and we liked that you can interact in several parts. The place itself is small. What I think they can improve is that they can add information in Spanish, both with the employees and in the notes or legends they have. Being on the border with such a large population that speaks Spanish, this part is missing.

Honestly calling it an aquarium is kind of a stretch. Theres no labels on the fish, theyre just shoved into dirty, small, tanks. Aside from that, its basically just a humid, weird, maze full of empty attractions, and a room filled with birds from PetSmart? Nothing is explained for the interactive exhibits, so we didnt get to see the sharks or the barn, which was a bummer. Thankfully did get to feed the otters which was super cute, until you see their empty little claw holes and realize theyre declawed, then it was kinda depressing. But $50 for two people was insane.

The aquarium itself is great. Its a little small but the experience is unique and fun. The place is generally clean and staff is attentive and knowledgeable. I love aquatic life so I did purchase the annual pass. Youre allowed to pet and interact with most of the animals and fish in the aquarium. Your also allowed to feed them. I enjoy visiting during the week days for a quick walk through to relax. The shark tank is a good size and entertaining to watch. The otters are super fun to watch. Theyre very jolly critters. I did not rate 5 stars due to the poor care some of the fish and animals receive. As an annual pass holder I visit frequently. Some enclosures are too small for the animals they contain. Theres constantly different animals or empty aquatic areas/enclosures. This leads me to the conclusion that they are passing away. This is probably due to over feeding and over stimulation. Some of the reptile enclosures do not provide any good areas for the reptiles to hide when stressed. I love the aquarium and I am sure this has been a learning experience for the owners and staff. I do see changes being made to improve care and constant improvements to the enclosures. Overall, its definitely worth visiting and for the price theres nowhere else locally you can get such a unique experience. I just hope the owners continue to educate themselves and their staff to their animals needs and providing proper enclosures and care. I would love to see this place expand into something bigger

My fiance and I came here out of curiosity and were very pleasantly surprised. There was so much to do, from feeding different animals (otters, birds, goats, wallabies, etc) to petting and holding other animals (snakes, porcupines, stingrays, tortoises, fish). There was also a mermaid there who looked as if she did storytime for younger children and other activities, like panning and pirate gold hunting that we did not participate in but looked like fun! There was food and snacks available, restrooms, and plenty of super knowledgeable staff members ready to guide and answer questions. This is definitely a fantastic family-friendly place (though you dont have to have kids to have fun)! I cant wait to come back on my next visit to El Paso. :)

08/28 no wait time to get in but staff seems to be lacking. Shark tank was being cleaned so no sharks, well at least for one small shark. We waited a while to get in bird cage and was later told the employee didn t show up. There were people inside earlier but okay. We just spent the rest of our coins feeding the fish. It s smaller than I thought. Even with the military discount, I don t think it was worth the price since half of it wasn t even available for us. And it s like staff is gone most of the time. The older man with the porcupine was probably the best experience for us. He showed us a video of when Buster got excited and answered our questions.

In El Paso for the first time and a lot of the museums and other attractions were closed Monday so my friend and I saw this place and through we should give it a chance. Initially, we thought admission was going to be $15 and some change but once we got there, if you wanted to do any of the feeding of the animals, you have to buy tokens. Fair enough. So we each spend about $27 each in total. Also side note, the waiver that they have to sign beforehand is absolutely scary! Read it for a jump scare if you want to get your blood pumping beforehand. Once we enter the premises, you re bombarded with washing stations and signs preparing for all the animals you ll be touching. This gets us excited. However, this is such a scam. None of the animals are labeled, the shark tank water was so murky you couldn t see anything. The animals did not look well kept and the enclosures and tanks looked so small and cramped! The only thing worth interacting with were the sting ray and the barn area with the baby Joey and the goats. Everything smelled horrendous and was pretty depressing to be honest! We ended up not using all of tokens either.

Review №67

Way too expensive for 90% of the tanks/enclosures to be empty. They charge $2.50 for a token to feed animals. I asked the lady at the front how many she recommended and she said 4-7... Only to go in and theres only 1 opportunity to feed stingrays and the only other way to spend tokens is get 5 tiny food pellets for fish. Complete waste of money. The reptile enclosures had animals but its an aquarium... Barely saw any aquatic animals. All the enclosures with animals inside were filthy. The tank with eels had 3 OF THEM all crammed into a tiny tank where they cant even swim freely. I fear for the condition of these animals. Between the cost, lack of animals (btw most didnt even signs explaining the animal), the dirtiness of the enclosures and tanks, and then wanting to charge you the cost of another ticket to see other stuff like the aviary... I am not an expert in animals but I can tell you they are in bad conditions in this place. I hope this place gets shut down. DO NOT COME HERE.

We brought our 2 year old and 1 year old to Jungle Reef today, 8/15/24. It is advertised as a touch aquarium and also has a petting barn. The keeper in the petting barn had just told us that the wallaby Jupiter sometimes playfully jumps, when all of the sudden Jupiter jumped up and clawed my 2 year old son in the face, on both sides. While I was holding him and waiting to leave the barn, Jupiter jumped up on me and swiped at my sons legs. She has super sharp claws and nobody warned us of that or we would have never let our babies in the barn. Even after that occurred and we were waiting to make an incident report, they were continuing to allow children into the barn with the wallaby. The owner was professional and refunded our money, but we feel that the exhibit poses a risk to children and we couldnt keep silent. Jupiter clawed him right across his eye and couldve damaged his eyesight. This is very serious and something needs to be said.

The areas were very clean, maintained, and spacious for each animal. It s a shame that a bunch of people that know nothing are creating harm to a business that is gifting El Paso a beautiful experience to share with the family. The ones complaining need to get off their key boards and should go learn something.

My wife and I decided today to visit Jungle Reef for the first time. We were greeted by Taylor, she was very welcoming, informative, and it was nice seeing her energy match per personality. As we made our way the atmosphere was pleasant. We went during the week so there wasn t too many people. As we made our way around I was happy to see the animals are well taken care of. There was no foul odor of urine or feces. Enclosures were well maintained and managed by staff. All staff that day welcomed us provided with the necessary information to be safe and to ensure the animals were safe as well. We feel in love with the barn yard section. My wife loved the birds as they got very close and personal as we held cups of bird feed in our hands. To me, this a must for all animal lovers. I also have to mention towards the end the porcupine and close interaction was amazing. Sadly, I didn t get the gentleman s name; however, he was very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate in his duties. We definitely will be going there again. Also, please ask about the the yearly pass. If you plan on going there more than once getting the season pass would be a benefit. Hopefully there will be growth and more animals to come! They dont know how to keep animals alive, let alone how to give them humane habitation. If I was any of these animals, Id rather die than live at Jungle Reef. The El Paso Zoo is depressing enough, but this one makes the Zoo sound like heaven. Please go support the wildlife refugees that actually give animals the space to move around, socialize with their own, and thrive in the closest thing possible to natural environment. How would you feel being locked up all day in a tiny enclosure being poked and prodded by a bunch of grubby hands. Benito was just the first victory, come on guys.

The shark tank looks dirty you cant even see them. Employees are not paying attention to what people are doing, this aquarium has been the worst one I have visited. Employees should be in all stations where you are allowed to touch and they are not, or they are not even paying attention which puts the animals at risk. It is sad how not only the public can respect or follow rules but also employees not caring for the animals. Albuquerque Aquarium charges about the same and is way better for the amount they charge.

I have been bringing my child here for about a month sometimes twice per week. He loves it. But to be honest, most of the staff is rude and uneducated in the keep of these animals. My four year old went up to a keeper and asked a simple question. This kid ignored my son and went on his way. I asked him to entertain my sons question and he ignored me as well. The staff at the counter are rude as well and never smile. There more stressed than there poor animals. This is a touch experience and kids want to have fun. Make it fun for them and dont try to empty our pockets doing so. Shark tank has been so dirty you cant even seen the sharks. One tank has been empty for months. The Lemar has been removed. On top of the expensive price to come in, I find it ridiculous that they change $2.50 for 6 tiny pebbles to feed there fish.once Inside they charge $2.50 to sit with love birds and feed them. Lines for this can be up to two hours long. Better off taking the children to the zoo. I hope one day we can have something really nice in El Paso to be proud of.

I went with my family on June 30th, 2024. I want local businesses to succeed, but this place needs a lot of work. Most of the aquatic exhibits had no staff supervision. At the stingray zone, a random staff member came up to a group in front of us to tell them to be careful because stingrays can hurt you pretty bad. If that is the case, then shouldnt there be staff there to guide/monitor visitors? I originally went to this place to show my daughter the starfish exhibit. It was practically nonexistent. I found a thread on reddit that contained multiple complaints about the starfish being mutilated or killed by kids. Thats extremely disappointing. These places should exist to EDUCATE people. Entertainment should be a secondary thought, and animal welfare should be the top priority. We skipped past the shark exhibit because the water was so murky, you could only make our silhouettes. The Koi fish pond was very interesting. Again, there was no staff supervision so kids were giving the fish food they arent supposed to eat or generally terrorizing them. There was a tortoise roaming around the area which was awesome at first glance. However, excitement turned to concern as I noticed kids and adults swarming it and slapping its shell and poking its face. That poor thing was stressed. I brought it up to some staff members and they dismissed my concerns. Its fine, the tortoises like to stretch their legs! Cool. My concern was that it was literally being hit by people, not that it was walking around. We skipped the bird exhibit and barnyard experience because you have to pay extra on top of admission - which is extremely pricey when you factor in the cost of animal food tokens. Id be able to rationalize this cost of this place if it actually felt like a quality experience. The final exhibit before the gift shop was a porcupine pen. This poor animal was having what could best explained as a dissociative anxiety episode. It was laying there, motionless, heavy breathing and staring off into space. My mom asked the nearby staff if it was okay, and he said it was probably fine. What a reassuring answer. The gift shop is designed in a way where it actively deters people from wanting to buy gifts. There is no separate register for the gift shop. If you want to buy something, you have to wait at the same counter that is used for ticket purposes. We waited for 10 - 15 minutes to buy a little plush before we put it back and just left.

The idea is very creative, but when I went with some friends it was extremely concerning seeing the conditions some animals are in. The employees don t know anything about working with animals or people and despite all the signs saying DO NOT GRAB , children were grabbing and squeezing the animals in the touch tanks and the parents were encouraging them, and no employees did anything about it! Many people were cutting lines and the birthday room had obscene Bad Bunny music playing full volume for all children to hear. Once again another example of the kind of people who live in El Paso and how lazy employees do not do the jobs that they re getting paid for anywhere, even if it s for protecting animals.

Just be prepared for some unexpected surprises from the feathered friends. All in all, it was a wild ride, but we would definitely do it again!

Absolutely loved it here, the people were very friendly and intelligent. They care a lot about these animals, I spoke to a man named Ted and he told me about his little porcupine friend. They also do a good job at preserving these animals and educating us about them. Looking forward to coming back.

Beyond their selling points, these facilities are lacking in care and their animals are suffering for it. Poor living conditions for animals + shady businesses tactics. Consider supporting literally any other El Paso business (ideally one that values the life or animals)

I wanted to go for a nice date night especially to see the otters they say they have! No where online does it say the otters are 1. Taking a break I totally understand and 2. Just had surgery. So you don t even get warned. For the price half of the place was not cleaned at all. The water was very dirty you could barely see the poor sharks. Kinda disappointed but didn t want to bother the poor counter lady for a refund on a slow day

I expected way more for the price of tickets. The aquariums are not well-maintained and are foggy; very few variety of fish. You have to pay to see parakeets and barn animals on top of the entry price. Extremely disappointing. It s okay at best to take small children, otherwise, save your money and go to the zoo!

Taylor was a great front desk operator, it was my first time coming into Jungle reef and she gave us a great run down of what was inside and some of her personal favorites attractions inside. My family and I had a great time! We had visited the bird sanctuary like she mentioned and it was a blast! Many of the cute birds and was a fun time watching the stingrays eating from our palms. Great place to visit when you and your family need something to do.

When I found this place and their website I was so excited, it looked like so much fun and like there were a ton of cool things to see and do. This aquarium is located inside the mall but I didn t realize it until we got there and couldn t figure out where an aquarium would be at the mall. I had assumed it was an actual aquarium like the one in Albuquerque. I brought my 5 year old son here for a special occasion today and I cannot find the proper words to describe how disappointed and upset I am. We were excited to pet the otters and stingrays but when we got there the entire front section, including where the otters and stingrays usually are, was closed. There was no mention of it on the website or when I bought the tickets. The rest of it was a couple of snakes and lizards, a small pond of koi fish, one long tank of various fish, three bunnies and a sad single porcupine in a makeshift enclosure. It was such a sad place. I felt so bad for the reptiles and fish and all of the other animals in there. We didn t pay to do the petting zoo part or whatever it was because I imagine it would ve made the trip even more upsetting. The girl at the front counter clearly hated her job and honestly I can see why. She s the first person people see when the disappointment and frustration sets in. We were anticipating petting the otters and stingrays but they were on a hiatus so that they could have a break and have medical things taken care of. Cool, I get it. Please take care of the animals. However, this place looked like the most depressing environment for any of these creatures to be living in. There is no way that these animals are being taken care of the way that they need and deserve to be or that they could be content or comfortable here. I m appalled that this is even legal. The pictures and descriptions on the website are not even a shredded tatter of what Jungle Reef actually is. I spent $45 on tickets at a place that we stayed at for a total of about 11 minutes.

Two stars because the place entertained my toddler and 6 year old for almost two hours and they had a pleasant experience. This place is very expensive. I don t know why people would buy a season pass, it s very small, lots of empty exhibits. No signs so you don t know names of the animals or species . The eel tank was incredibly small? Just one tube where apparently three eels had enough space to stick their heads out. I don t know how the team thought it was ok to keep such big animals in a tiny tube in a tank. The birds were cool for kids but they literally looked like petsmart birds. No turtles in exhibits, no starfish or anything. $15 adult to see bunnies (also at petsmart), part of an eel, Some cool little lizards and snakes, And see sting rays float around. the shark tank was cool but very hard to see into. Also have no idea what kind they are, To me, it seemed like the quality of animal care and animal knowledge you would expect from something claiming to be an aquarium was just not there. The employees (minus the guy who held the bunnies) were stand off ish and didn t interact . The otters were the only animals that seemed happy.

No otters, turtles, empty tanks and wade pools, even no bunnies. We did pay extra to see the birds (had to wait 40 minutes) but didn t want to pay extra AGAIN to see the farm animals. I read that there was a lemur ? Didn t see that either. My toddler and baby liked what they saw, but also weren t capable of noticing all of the missing animals.

We had a blast! My best advice is to scan the waver code before getting in line. You will have to do this for each person in your party. I also recommend the park hopper wristband. I personally feel it was worth the money. The wristband allows you access to activities at Monkey Rock. We took a break between the two locations to grab something to eat. It was nice to sit down and relax for just a bit. My best description of jungle reef is a cross between a small aquarium and a petting zoo all in one. They offer touch tanks, a variety of fish to feed, reptiles, and a bird room where you can feed about 130 parakeets. Here is my opinion on everything. First off, every staff member we encountered was friendly and full of information about the animals they were with. Tokens are a bit expensive. One token only provided a single shrimp to feed several stingrays! Before you know it, we ran out of them and had to buy more. The process became very expensive. Each animal you want to feed, needs tokens. If you are sensitive to humidity or smells, this is not the place to visit. At times the odor was pretty powerful and we were all sweating so badly. The bird room was an experience but my family and I all got pooped on. Was it worth it? Totally! They do offer sinks to wash your hands so that was extremely helpful. I also like they had hand sanitizer stations. You will want to use them. Would I come back? Yes, definitely. My daughter had so much fun. The highlight of the trip was petting a baby wallaby.

They told me at the front I could hold a snake and then when I went in with the tokens I had purchased they said they werent doing it that day. I dont live in El paso so it was a waste of the tokens, I ended up spending them on Gatorade since they were the best thing for the price.... they only give about 4 pebbles of food for the fish per token, not amazing
