I was pleasantly surprised by this museum. The staff in this place have a deep knowledge of the history of the Rio Grande Valley. This is a great place for solo to family history buffs and they even have a great puppet show that also provides a nice story of a family that resided in the area. What blew me away was the deep history of the indigenous people who resided in the area for generations and explored the people who tried to conquer or assimilate with them. Plus it also honors a Marine in one section of the museum that I encourage people to learn about. While I could only be there for 2 hours, if you take the time to read through the displays, you will likely spend approximately 4 hours there as rushed to take pictures at the end to read later.

We are from Dallas, and were able to learn a lot about the history of how the rio Grand Valley developed over the years. The docent was very good with the young students who were here on a school trip. They learned how to use a lasso and rope a cow there in the lobby.

The interior is beautiful. The majority of the displays are original with the exception of a very few that you can touch. It is rich in the items history that helps you appreciate its value as an artifact. The museum is very clean and quiet. They also have persons positioned near the exhibits to answer questions. My favorite was the story of a valley Marine who was awarded the Medal of Honor.

This is a fantastic community museum. We stopped on a December Sunday and were delighted to enjoy Christmas music programs by the local middle and high school. This museum seems to magically embrace the present community with their histories of what brought them to the present. We walked away with a really good feeling of community spirit and friendship. Will be back again to spend time with the displays in detail. Bonus: The museum was very busy while we were there but the bathrooms were still super clean!!!
