We are stopped in town over night from out of state and found this place recommended online. It s a little building with BIG flavors. We loved the food and the hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. Food was fast and hot and service was super friendly and helpful. We highly recommend!

Its REAL FOOD with REAL CHEFS. Impeccable. Chefs kiss. For real though, its so refreshing to eat food made by people that know what theyre doing. I appreciate the small menu because its an indicator that they actually can cook everything on there. And the rigatoni even improved from the last time I had it! Thats a mark of excellence. Vegetarian options: Usually between 0 and 2 vegetarian options, but theyre all absolute bangers.

I ve been wanting to try Picone since they opened, and tonight was the night. I was underwhelmed and disappointed. I expected the counter ordering vs. table service. We waited a long time for our food. My overall biggest complaint is the temperature of the food. Our burnt carrots were warm at best on the thin end, but room temp at the thick end. Other than that, the taste was great. I ordered the daily special pizza. Again, room temp at best. As no one checked on us, I went to the counter and politely asked it be reheated. When it came back 3 min later, it was warm around the edge and still room temp everywhere else. I love Parmesan, but I had to scrape some off of my slice just too overpowering. $9 for a very ordinary slice of pizza that should ve been 1/3 of the price. We also got the hangar steak. It was excellent! Cooked perfectly and very tender. The chimichurri sauce was meh, and the accompanying potato salad was fair. I ve heard amazing things about the burgers and pasta dishes, so I will give it another try for one of those items. I m hopeful .

Went for the first time today. You step up to a counter to order. No smiling faces from any employees. They ask for a tip once you order and pay for your order. There is no service. I sit at a table on a overly hot room. I get a Styrofoam cup with water and a number handed to me and I choose my own table. I have to go back to the counter to get napkins, utensils and straws. The wait for our food was long. Once delivered, your on your own. They never came back to ask how our food was. They dont check to see if you need more water. What was the tip for? You expect me to come back for what? The food was good but not great. Not awesome. But I cant get over that you ask me for a tip and I get no service At all. Vegetarian options: Pasta and burnt carrots were vegetarian. Parking: Somewhat difficult to find parking

Maybe Im a little biased as this is currently my favorite place to eat. I absolutely love the vibe of the place, its byob, very casual Ive never once felt uncomfortable when walking into picone, which is rare. I get very uncomfortable in resturants. Now to the best part, THE FOOD, I dabble in my husbands plate and have tried a few thing outside of my normal chicken parm with Sunday sauce, never once tried something I didnt like. Yuca fries, heard of them.. yea I hadnt either, never knew I needed them in my life, but here we are. The crispy fried potatoes are out of this world, only complaint there is GIVE US THE SAUCEEE. Lol all in all, if you were curious about the place, stay gone I want to keep it for myself. Just kidding, I encourage everyone to go and see for yourself THEY WILL NOT DISAPPOINT YOU. Parking: Well, sometimes are better than others. But her, its a good thing for picone that I sometimes have trouble parking, lets me know my favorite spot is doing well!

This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Denton. With the creative rotating specials (check instagram for the special of the day) Picone just does not miss! Finally got a chance to stop in to Picone for a late lunch and MAAAAAAAAN what a brilliant idear that was. We started off with the burrata (that pillowy soft french bread is effin PHENOMENAL), I had the smash burger and its officially the best Ive ever had, 1000 times better than that chain burger joint thats famous for smashing burgers. Our other entire was the Fri/Sat special Chicken Parm Marsala, holy schnikes this was by far the crispiest, juiciest chicken parm on earth, the marsala sauce was delicious and had a little kick. So todays late lunch adventure was well worth it 25/10 will be back to try their weekend specials and everything else on the menu

The positive reviews are spot on. Great, chef-driven, seasonal / rotating menu. Food tends to be rich with larger portions - family-style is a good choice. Most healthy weight eaters will likely need a to-go box - I am (ahem) larger and still needed a to go box. The former dive-bar aesthetic just fits with the entire experience - totally authentic and it makes the food the star. I prefer they raise their prices and dont ask for tips - you order at the counter and they bring you the food... 15-20% higher on the ticket price (for the staff) would still be very good value given the quality and quantity of the food. It is just the strange optics of tipping for the type of service at that price point... Just increase the prices and put up a gratuity not necessary sign. People will respect you for paying your staff adequately. So, the gratuity is why I marked the service down. The young lady behind the counter was genuinely pleasant for the short time we engaged. Finally, yes, the dishes were heavy on sodium. Didnt ruin the taste, however - it just had a noticable impact on the palate and I will be extra thirsty this afternoon. Probably could have asked for less salt on the smash burger (lives up to the hype) - probably not on the other dishes as they might be prepped in advance. But, people have different levels of tolerance for sodium - I am light on the salt in cooking and only add salt to prepared food after I taste it.

Second review: It continues to not disappoint. The orange chicken fried sandwich was absolutely mind blowing. Im a little biased because pickled carrots and slaw are my fave but the crispy potatoes and all??? Perfection. If this was on the menu forever Id be here twice a week. I need to start running more to make up for it.... Do not let the funky (and delightful!) Little building deceive you. This small place holds BIG things. If you do nothing else, look at my pictures. The clean plates should be enough but if not, heres my two cents: EAT HERE. My god. How there is not a line out the door from the second they open is beyond me. I should have known because Lavan is a phenomenal chef. But lets get down to brass tacks: the meal starts with what appears to be some lovely plated garlicky bread. Its crunchy and light as is its basil aioli partner. The burnt carrots are dressed in chili (oil?) With dapplings of whipped ricotta. Perfectly cooked, not mushy, not crunchy. The gnocchi is toothsome, the pesto is fresh, the broccoli has exactly the right amount of chew. Freshly grated parmesean holds it all together for a perfectly balanced meal. All of this is great dont get me wrong. But the steak and potato gratin? May literally be the best thing that has ever graced my face. The steak is PERFECTLY done. Its an absolute experience. Perfect sear, juicy in the middle, smothered in pan sauce. The king oyster mushrooms are a delightful unique experience thats a far cry from the usual button mushrooms you get in most steakhouses. The potato gratin manages to be both light and comforting at the same time. Maybe this is a lot but its rare for such a shining star to come to Denton. We WILL be returning to try every part of that menu. Parking: Not too many spots but enough to service the restaurant

I ve been a regular at the spot and after the longest time, I decided to go there yesterday and see the new menu. I tried the hanger steak set, Chicken parm, and got the fruity pebbles semifreddo as well. It s always a good time - the guys over at Picone never disappoint(shoutout to Tony & the gang) but a special special appreciation to Andrew he s literally HIM!!!!!!! the sovereign of the scene - took our orders, ensured that we understood everything we ordered, and made improvements when necessary the man just GETS IT and I wish him nothing but the absolute best!!!!!!! - think I m lying, well you ll just have to see it for yourself. The food was amazing and as much as people want to complain about prices, you re paying for more than just the food(you know this because you ve spent debatable amounts of money on things that weren t worth it) so mute it .go there and just have a great time .Thanks Picone for a wonderful experience as always.

Just had dinner here -- chicken parm, the Sicilian slice, the fruity pebbles ice cream treat. I LOVED it. The dishes were tasty, beautiful, and I think most of all, thoughtful. It really came through that the people behind this restaurant are just so talented. The flavors were bright, strong, they really picked certain notes and supported them with the rest of the meal. The chicken was salty, savory, paired with big toothsome pasta with a peppery red sauce. Slow heat, played very well with the cheese. The Sicilian slice was awesome as well, felt more like a focaccia than a pizza but the texture -- light, airy, good oil -- was really satisfying. Flavors were fresh, front of the tongue! Fruity pebbles semifreddo for desert. They did something to get the crispie treat to maintain integrity under the ice cream. Crunchy to the last bite. Not super out there but it was a real treat :) The ambiance was comfortable, warm, but unfussy. The staff was really nice. I actually loved how self directed the ordering system was, but no one was dawdling on orders or anything. They just felt really present. This is a place with a lot of life. So highly recommended.

Recently tried their pizza Wednesdays and enjoyed it a lot! And if you ever get a chance to try their birria burger when it s on special do it! Change your plans and make it happen lol might be one of my favorite things I ve tried here. Dishing out really good food one month in. The ricotta gnocchi with pesto and broccolini was absolutely phenomenal, I will be thinking about that one for a while. The chicken parm was excellent as was the sweet heat Italian sausage. Cannolis and Burnt carrots were good. Beyond the food tasting good, I left feeling really good. The food ate clean and by that I mean it wasn t full of oil and wasn t unnecessarily rich or heavy and I didn t leave feeling like I was going to have a food baby all night lol - two thumbs up there; comfort food done well and done right. Whether you re taking food to go or wanting to sit and eat there, you order and pay up at the counter. The menu is up on a chalk board, simple and constantly changing; just enough to choose from without offering too much and overextending themselves. (They update the menu on their instagram so you can see what they got before going) Food came out at a good pace. Plate-ware was nice. Space inside is simple, not fancy, but coming here is about the food, but the space has potential and I m excited to see what they do with it as they get some momentum and evolve.

Parking was a nightmare. But I ve been told about this place so many times so I came to check it out FINALLY last night for dinner. I was honestly really looking forward to trying their food. The first thing that kind of shocked me were the prices. But I thought, maybe it s just deliciously perfect. But you don t get sat, you don t get drinks brought to you. You go up to the counter, order, pay, grab your own silverware then get a number and sit down. Like in fast food so I confused when they asked for a tip. So to not be greedy, even though I m already spending $19 on a pasta dish so, I tipped. All this person had to do was bring the food so I m not letting that get to me cause I m hearing all the quality experiences that people have had here in my head and I m optimistic. So my partner and I sit and we have our waters and we wait and we wait and we wait and I m thinking, this will be extra fresh! And after about 25 min, the food is brought to us. The guy asked us if we need anything. But we re okay. And I m just disappointed from the get go. There are literally like 12 noodles and then this slab of chicken Parmesan. The noodles were cold/room temp. And the chicken was delicious don t get me wrong. But it wasn t anything that really gave me goosebumps or made me feel like the price was justified. It was just a fried chicken piece with a minimal amount of pasta. I d say if you re looking for a very Denton-Italian experience go here? Just don t expect service for the price of the food. You re just literally getting the food. Parking: Very tight fit. Especially if there are no spaces in the front.

We finally got to try it! 2 adults & 2 pre-teens. I wasn t expecting to order at the counter. Then you pick your seat. Menu seems to fluctuate. Drinks are bottled/canned. They will give you cups of ice. My husband said it was the best steak he d ever had. The fries that came with it were wonderful (he preferred the hot honey sauce and I preferred the pesto sauce). The burnt carrots were worth trying bc of their novelty, but next time I m hoping they have the crispy Brussels! We inhaled the carrots, I just think there should be more for the price. We tried both variations of Chk Parm - Alfredo & Sunday (red sauce). Alfredo was the clear favorite. The portions were so massive, we had enough for 2 lunches the next day. I was jones n for a cannoli or tiramisu, but they didn t have either so we headed up the block to Di Abruzzo for dessert. Kid-friendliness: There was not a kids menu when we went. Food can take a while - small kids might not want to wait!

Honestly a little underwhelming considering all the hype. Pretty okay food but not a great value. All 4 member of my dining party felt the flavors were masked by an abundance of sodium. The burnt carrot was nice but the meatball sub might be the best deal of the day (although the balls left me belching an absolutely venomous aroma that evening). Rigatoni could have used a touch of something green like a sprinkling of parsley and after adding a pair of balls was $18. French Onion Soup was quite hearty but again, super salty. Hope the best for them just not my spot. Vegetarian options: Denton is home to the largest population of gender-fluid Gen-Z kids in North Texas so you know their going to accommodate vegetarians.

I definitely liked this place. It was very comfortable, and not pretentious. Im just not quite ready to give it five out of 5 stars for food, because I found myself thinking I could do as well or better than this myself. But obviously, not everyone feels that way. I do want to say that it was very good. Very good job for a new spot.

Ugh SO GOOD!! One of the few new restaurants that is keeping the Denton spirit alive. You can tell its run by a bunch of chef friends who are just having fun cooking quality dishes, both traditional and fusion inspired. Heads up for veg people - they didnt have any veg entrees, but I asked and they said they had an off-menu option. I got the pesto pasta with roasted brussel sprouts and shallots. Divine. Also got the pumpkin tiramisu, which was yummy. Its pricey for a typical Denton college student budget, but the portions are generous. Definitely coming back :)

Okay so first impressions?? I truly dont have words. Like honestly. Im speechless trying to figure out how to describe the culinary rollercoaster I just went on and I have no idea what to say. When I tell yall this is THE BEST BURGER IVE HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE?!?!?! IT IS NO EXAGGERATION. Ive been wanting to try their Birria Burger for awhile, but its a pop up item thats only on the menu sometimes. For whatever reason I thought about it today and lo and behold, they were selling it. So I hopped in the car and made that journey to Denton, which took an awhile, but it was absolutely worth every mile! I knew the burger was going to be good, but honestly, nothing could have prepared me for HOW good. I think the part that blew me away the most was how strong each part of the meal was, individually. The Birria meat is an insane blend of short ribs, chuck, bone marrow, and oxtails, then come the two smashed patties, with mozzarella cheese, pickled onions, a tostada, guacamole, and herb crema. EVERY INGREDIENT CAME CORRECT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM!! The bun?? Perfectly soft and buttery with a slight toasted crunch. The Guacamole?? TOP TIER, SUPER FRESH. Could EASILY be served on its own with chips and be one of the best guacs youve ever had!! Birria meat?? OUT OF THIS WORLD. BURGER?!?!? PERFECTLY COOKED AND SO WELL SEASONED!!! HERB CREMA?? INCREDIBLE!! PICKLED ONIONS?!?!? THE PERFECT FINISHING TOUCH. Then we move onto the potatoes and the aioli?? AMAZING!! The potatoes were so crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, the aioli was so well balanced with a slight amount of sweetness and just omg!! I know I pretty much just wrote an entire book, but these emotions are FRESH and I truly dont know what else to do with myself!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont remember the last time I was this genuinely excited about food. I already have my sister on the way to make the journey to get herself one tonight because its just THAT GOOD!! Anyway - TLDR - THEIR BIRRIA BURGER IS THE BEST BURGER ON THE PLANET. I hope this place stays open forever!! I will scream this from the rooftops!! 1000000000000/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!

Buddy told me about this place, and it didnt disappoint. Very selective menu, but I truly believe this is because they only focus on those certain items. I was correct. The food was a little pricey, but I did not mind eating great food. Loved it all. Very flavorful and perfect amount of spicy. Ingredients seem very fresh. The only complaint is that parking is very tight, especially having a full-size truck.

Picone has one of, if not the most, creative, Chef-driven menus in town. When you walk in, you can tell the staff is a cohesive team that loves what they do, which speaks to Chef Tonys leadership. The chicken parm is classic, but there are lots of fusion elements in the menu that separate Picone from other Italian spots. Always try the special. Dont sleep on the burnt carrots. Save room for dessert. Check the menu (or call ahead) because some things are seasonal and rotate, but even if a past favorite has gone away, youre going to find a new favorite.

Music wasnt too loud, service was prompt and friendly, tables had plenty of space. The food was incredible. I got a chopped cheese and my wife got chicken parm. Definitely the best sandwiches in Denton with incredible attention to details. (Seems like other restaurants always cheap out on the bread. The bread here is fantastic and up to the job of holding these monsters together.) Word of advice: if you like having veggies with your pot roast at home, try the burnt carrot appetizer. Okay, I came here excited to try a new Italian restaurant in Denton. Well, first impression, its just okay. The food was decent, and I can tell they are passionate about the food. However, I think they need help/improvement with service, ordering, and the weirdness/awkwardness of what to order where and if you sit down to order. They need a sign stating so that there is none of this awkwardness. Example: Order here. Also, its weird that they give you tap water, and the ice is kept in a cooler. Drinks in a can, and everything is given in Styrofoam even to-go food. The pictures on goolge really are not what you would expect. I thought it would be a higher-end restaurant or something mid-tier and its not even this. I think they have a lot of kinks that need smoothed out for it to be mid-tier. However, like I said previously, they seem passionate about the food, just a managing/GM problem. Just very low-key and awkward place to eat even if the food does come out fairly quick. Hope they figure it out and kill it. Best of luck!

By all appearances, Picone is unassuming, and yet eating here makes me assume the life story of the owner. The ambiance of Picone is immaculately intimate, somehow capturing the feel of a mom-and-pop shop while also exuding excellence in every breath. From the loud music playing off one speaker in the corner to the single server, I feel like I walked into a family restaurant and was treated like I ve gone there every Monday since I was a child. My interactions were indeed informal but incredibly respectful. Picone is not only loved but cherished among its visitors. During my time at Picone, I got a Pork and Mash burrito due to the sheer oddity of it being on an Italian menu. I was fundamentally unprepared for the flavors that would emerge from within the flour tortilla-wrapped delight. I was elated at the flavors that emerged and merged with textures that frankly don t belong in a burrito. If the portion weren t so large, I d have ordered another to revel in the delicacy. I hope to return soon. Parking: Few parking spots
