Had a lovely time at the LBJ presidential library. The building was unique, and the grounds were pretty and well maintained, although small. The interior highlighted key components of LBJs career in public service, and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The Library took about an hour to see the exhibits and tour the grounds. If youre in the area, Id recommend stopping by.

This was an excellent presidential library. I enjoyed their special exhibit. I m not the biggest LBJ fan. But credit to where it is due - the man valued freedom, liberty, and equality for all; values I think all Americans love to see in their presidents (past and present) regardless of politics. I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to this presidential library. You will learn a ton, and appreciate LBJ s legacy a bit more - as I did!

How cool and interesting!! Floors 3, 4, and 10 are exhibit based and you do not need an appointment. You do need an appointment for the actual library. Super interesting presidential history information. I wasn t super familar with LBJ before this, but have a newfound appreciation for the work he did for the impoverished, for civil rights, and the country as a whole. Lots of information on his civil rights work, his contributions to the space program, and state programs like Head Start/Medicare/etc. As well as some information about JFK, the pressure of taking over after his assassination, and the pressure of the Vietnam war. I loved the phone booths where you can listen to calls LBJ had recorded. An absolutely wonderful and interesting place, and definitely worth the 13$.

Was lucky enough to come along during an exhibition of American music, with so many fantastic musical exhibitions including Jimi Hendrixs flying V, Johnny Cash guitar and more. The history of LBJ and his wife were also so fascinating and informative. As a European without any knowledge of LBJ besides his succeeding JFK, it was fantastic to learn about his life, his achievements and those of his wife. The oval office replica was particularly cool to stand in. Thank you to all the friendly, knowledgeable staff and everyone who makes this place possible. I had a fantastic time at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library in Austin today. One of the highlights for me was definitely seeing LBJ s Texas limousine up close what a piece of history! The 11-minute multimedia experience in the Introduction Theater gave a great overview of LBJ s life and legacy. A special exhibition; MUSIC AMERICA, with iconic objects from Americas music history such as Elvis, Nirvana, Bruce Sprinsteen, is a must-see and runs through August 11, 2024. You can easily spend an hour here only. I also loved looking up at the four floors holding over 45 million pages of documents in the LBJ Library Archives and viewing the displays in the Great Hall Gallery. The interactive exhibits and artifacts in the core exhibition brought LBJ s domestic and foreign affairs to life. The staff were super helpful, and the library is fully accessible. Overall, it was a wonderful visit, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in American history or presidential libraries.

Just turned 18 when President Johnson left office. Fantastic library lots to see listen to. Am amazed at all the new programs he got passed ! Think he should be # 3 on list of Presidents. Washington whom without there would be no USA. Lincoln for the Emancipation Proclamation and keeping our Nation together. LBJ for getting bills passed to start full integration in schools housing and employment. One hundred years after Lincoln freed all slaves. Our nation had to wait 189 years for the 2nd. paragraph of the Declaration of Independence to become a reality. Most impressive for a southern man. Eric from Lombard, IL

I recently explored the LBJ Presidential Library after it has an extensive renovation but this visit was to see the Music America: Iconic Objects from Americas Music History temporary exhibit. They have a dedicated parking lot but it was full and decided to park in the next one dedicated to the University of Texas. It was a Saturday so I am sure they did not mind. The building itself is very impressive and always enjoy visiting this place ever since my parents brought me here when I was a small child. On this day there was a lot of of people visiting where I believe may have been eclipse tourists in town finding things to do in Austin while they wait for Monday. The Music America exhibit was definitely soothing to see and recommend it. The rest of the museum takes you back in time when Lyndon Baines Johnson was president and ran the show in times when a lot was happing in America. They have lots of timelines with historical events. Make sure to ride the elevator to the 10th floor where find a replica of the Oval Office, Lady Birds office and collection. The grounds are also spectacular with nice views of the UT campus and Tower.

We found this Presidential Library to be one of our favorites so far! While there is so much to learn (or maybe remember) about his Great Society, the peek you get at the man himself is the most authentic we have seen so far. The banks of telephones in each area allows you to hear how it all happened, IN HIS VOICE. You quickly learn why he was such an intimidating politician, a true champion of the disenfranchised, and a genuine tough guy as well as a consummate gentleman at times. He was a Texas-sized personality. I would have liked to have lunch with him. But I would have NEVER wanted to be on his bad side. Thrust into a period of extreme change, he navigated it by never slowing down. He could not outrun Vietnam, but the amount of legislation he got passed is truly awe inspiring and affects all of us to this day. Laid out in an easy to navigate way, there is MUCH reading to do and it was a walk through the turbulent time of the 60s as well as a glimpse into the last century. Allow 2-3 hours to fully absorb it all, eat first! HIGHLY recommended. We used a Groupon, but it was cheaper than some libraries.

LBJ library is definitely worth a visit. I knew nothing about LBJ before going. I thought its just a library and I didnt expect to be paying for it. Its a presidential library (archival for LBJ era and its by appointment) and a museum (documenting LBJ time plus music in America). We went on Tuesday (50%, $8 per person) Museum is floors 3, 4, and 10. Archival library (by appointment) are floors 5,6,7, and 8. Floor 3 (entry floor) is history of music in America. Its lovely and enjoyable. In addition, there is a few minutes film about LBJ (a must see) and a timeline of LBJ and lady bird lifes. Floor 4 is my favorite. Its about politics during LBJ time. Imagine a president comes after Kennedys assassination and in the middle of cold war with Soviet union and the rise of communism. Internally, there is the civil right movement, poverty, and illiteracy. Also, the space race, Vietnam war, Israel-Arab conflict, etc. You will learn about the thousands of bills signed during LBJ era. Floor 10, is a replica of the ovel office, the lady bird office, and their belongings. Its a light floor. Bathrooms are in 2nd and 10th floors GPS will take you to UT parking which requires permit. The next lot is FREE AND its dedicated for library visitors. Dont park on the street its not free!

Security people told me to go to the Public Affairs building next door to find a place to check bags. I ve looked over this building, nothing. Either they told me the wrong place to go, or they flat out lied to me. Their operator is out and their website is broken, constantly redirecting me to some Chinese domain purchase website. Only information I find regarding anything single-bag was during COVID season. I don t know if these people are serious about getting paying customers to go through their attraction, but if they are, they do a God-awful way of showing it.

Im a big fan of museums. Im also working to visit all of the Presidential Museums. So, of course I stopped by the LBJ Presidential Library before heading home to Colorado after working in Austin for a few days. Parking was a bit confusing and I dont know if I was supposed to pay or not. But, I parked out front and had no issues. Didnt pay and still dont know if thats correct... The admission is $13, but you need to purchase online in advance. I showed up without a ticket and was turned away at the door. It wasnt a busy place so I was able to log in on my phone and easily get a ticket. The building outside is depressing and boring. Inside is fairly basic, but all in all, it is a fitting and solid tribute to the President. A guide greeted me right after I walked in. She is a pleasant, smiling promoter of the museum and all things President Johnson. Very knowledgeable and kind. She offered to take several pictures and told me stories as I walked around. Left me to myself after awhile, but was a positive impression and her kindness is appreciated. I love to see the Oval Office, the history behind our presidents, and all of the challenges the world presented at the time. Overall a good presidential museum, a pleasant tour, and fun visit for me. Theres a decent, but small gift shop as you leave.

What an amazing tour, its truly a time machine into the past. Having only been a child during his Presidency, the Library shed a lot of light into Johnsons work and dedication. While its a bit dated, and should be, its very informative along with a very well kept animatronic LBJ. The staff is very kind, exceedingly helpful making the tour even more delightful. Highly recommend a look if one is in Austin Texas.

This was my first tour off a presidential library. A good look into the past and American politics. A bit of a somber experience. Friendly staff. 7/8ths sized oval office. Cool retro limo and artifacts. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

There is only one request please add President Obama and First Lady Michelle s picture to the Past/Former President exhibit. It s been past two years, so the pictures should be there by now. Hopefully, by my next visit I will see them.

A trip down memory lane and Im really impressed. I didnt know LBJ before because the president was never a big issue in Germany and I wasnt born when he was in office. The library beautifully shows how the President is committed to education for all American citizens. The many exhibits are also impressive. If you are in Austin you should visit this place.

This museum is honestly EXCELLENT. I just cannot recommend it enough, my husband and I visited during mid-August and found it utterly interesting and informative. There are some brilliant staff members who are able to provide lots of information and detail. As Brits, we aren t particularly clued-up on US political history, so when arriving in Austin we wanted to soak-up some of it (although we came to the city for music!) and weren t disappointed. I highly recommend this museum - but can t imagine it would be of much interest to children.

If you are in Austin, this is one landmark you should not miss...whether or not you were a fan of LBJ, you will be impressed by the legislation that was passed during his term as President. Unlike most other Presidents, he was able to work across the aisle so that Republicans and Democrats could agree on laws that would make life better for Americans.

I was blown away by the depth of the material at the LBJ Library both in terms of who LBJ was and what he did, as well as the period materials and displays, i.e., clothing, music, newspaper headlines, and other material. Forgot how much LBJ accomplished. The Vietnam War tainted his legacy (I was a reservist who was on active duty in summer of 65 stationed with 101st Airborne. I saw effects of war.). Library gives a great overview of that period in our history and a better overview of what LBJ accomplished. I will likely go back; and, I made a $100 contribution to the library feeling it deserves to continue and inform people of that era.

This was the first presidential library each of the four people in our group had ever visited. We all were very impressed with the depth and variety of information. My husband and I were kids during the Johnson years and thought we knew a fair amount about him but we came away learning quite a bit and so did the 29 year olds we were with. There were some very cool items displayed including the moon rock and gifts from foreign dignataries and some really great photos Id never seen before. It was very interesting to see the original speech Johnson gave to the nation after Kennedy was assassinated that showed his editing marks. I always felt he was an underrated, underappreciated president. After visiting his library and seeing all the legislation he passed, and reached across the aisle to do it, LBJ deserves a lot more respect. Dont miss it.

Came with an elementary school group and had a good experience. There is something entertaining and educational for all age groups. The volunteer at the entrance took a few minutes to introduce us to the museum and tell us what to expect on each floor. This was not only helpful, but also nice for the kids to see how excited she was to share information about a place that she clearly enjoys. There is no water available. Thats tough in the summer in Texas. Totally understand that you cant open water or food in the museum, but being able to buy a bottle of water to drink outside would be really helpful.
