About the Company

rating: 4.6

With high-quality made-to-order burgers, a ‘come as you are’ environment and a strange reverence for Chuck Norris, there’s no place else quite like Twisted Root. Way back before ‘gourmet burgers’ was a thing, Chefs Jason Boso & Quincy Hart decided to build a restaurant around half-pound, fresh ground burgers with a menu that allowed customers to build their own burgers with a list of crazy and inventive toppings. The two met in culinary school, after jobs in stock brokerages and telephone line repair. After paying their dues working the line at The Four Seasons & Pappas Bros, Jason & Quincy finally opened Twisted Root Burger Co. in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, Texas in 2006. Twisted Root appeared on the second season of Diners, Dr

Visited on a Monday morning. I heard that the store opens at 6:30, but for some reason it actually opened after 8:00. I ordered wagyu seasoned with a tiny bit of yellow oil, but they already ran out of that option, so I ordered the wagyu alone and a quarter yellow oil. The result is as shown in the photo (see updates) However, the Wagyu was delish, with a delicious root beer and hamburger of just the right thickness. I also ordered kids burger, but it was a bit aromatic. There was volume.

Update: I ordered 2 beers and received 1.60 beers. Obviously, the keg kicked and either comping the 2nd or pouring another brand was too much for the lass even after saying (nicely) it was unacceptable. I left without ordering my burger. Wont return. Would you patronize a gas station that only gave you 0.60 gallons when youre paying full price for an entire gallon? Draft beer costs pennies per glass to make. $14.80, including tip, for less than 2 draft Miller beers is outrageous. Im taking away stars. They lost the 4 stars I previously gave them and my business. Good luck to you and good riddance to TRB. My business is going elsewhere. Original review: Its super early afternoon or possibly 5 stars? Excellent grub, cold beers, prices and staff. Thank you. I needed that. The

Fun celebrity order announcements, I was given a Jessica Rabbit card, but could have been anyone from James Dean to Stevie Wonder. Huge drink portions. Careful if youre driving home. Holy. Moly. My best friend and I came from San Antonio for a concert and wanted burgers to start off our day right. My bestie is gluten free so we called and ensured they had a gluten free bun option and the gentleman said yes. We pulled up and immediately knew it was the right decision. The gentleman at the front made us feel very comfortable while ordering and made the experience fun. Which is weird because since when is order food supposed to be fun? Now to what you really care about. I got the Freshman 15 burger with Waygu. Good. Gravy. This is hands down the most delicious burger I ve ever had. The fried pickles were thick and crunchy. The chipotle ranch absolutely made it. We have officially named this a must see attraction any time we re in Dallas now. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free buns and fries

Perfect burger. I got the classic with grilled onions and fries. I loved the burger but the fries and ranch were real standouts. Food was great - had a mule too - we enjoyed a burger and a salad and split the Reese s shake. Fun atmosphere and food had solid portions and very tasty. However we were with a large group and sat outside - tables were filthy - we even asked if they could be wiped down prior (food but and sticky shake drips etc) Nobody showed so we did it ourselves. Two long picnic tables for a party of 25 - but again service was great and no complaints in food. Glad we went early as it started to feel like it would get pretty rowdy later in the evening.

They also donate $2 from every monthly burger sale to the RN program at Baylor! Excellent way to have a great meal and give a little something back to a great cause. The Jam burger was also great, according to my partner. Vegetarian options: They do have vegetarian quinoa and black bean patty available. Decent burgers. Pretty much what you expect from a no frills dine-in burger joint. There are better, and there are worse. Not the first burger joint I think of, but dont avoid iit either. This is what turns me off of Twisted Root. While they arent the only place to do this, their business model really shows whats wrong with it. You order at the counter, you fill your own drink, you find your own table, and they have signs that say Your mama doesnt work here. Clean your own table!. With all of that, they have the audacity to ask for a tip. Not just a nice gesture tip, but suggesting that you give a 22% tip. Why on earth am I tipping the same as a full service restaurant? Servers make less than minimum wage, and serve customers to earn their pay.. Frankly, why am I tipping AT ALL? Im paying you $11 for you to make the burger. What SERVICE are you providing that justifies a tip? Make no mistake, this is a BUSINESS decision to get CUSTOMERS to pay their employees. The point of sale screens are built by the business, so it shows that THEY expect YOU to pay their employees even though they earn more than server pay. TIPS ARENT FOR COUNTER SERVICE!. Tip fatigue is setting in. Tip SERVERS well! Not employees for simply taking your money or making your food.

I meant to get the Freshman because I live the fried egg and fries on my burger. But since I order the wrong burger thru young guy has a egg fried up for me. Thanks my guy ! No grease problem. We have eaten at other Twisted Root restaurants before and had a much better experience. The burger was pretty good overall but the fries were cold and greasy. The onion rings were about the same. There was no service involved unless a grumpy cashier would be considered service, but they did expect a tip.

Very good food, pleasant atmosphere with movie themes, the negative star is for the cleaning service of the bathrooms inside and outside, the dirty and sticky floor, 1 bathroom in use and the drinks have no options, only ones that do not have gas.

One of the best burgers Ive had, however, the place is starting to look a little run down. It was pretty busy so I cant see why they are letting the place look like that. The booth seat we were at is totally ripped, the pictures on wall dusty and crooked, lets not even talk about the restrooms. If your establishment looks dirty, it might make people think your kitchen is as well? Would defintely go but only as take out. Staff and food were very good.

Their prices are fair considering how good and juicy their burgers are. Burgers were brought pretty fast, and they were nicely cooked (medium). Just make sure you don t have to skate for 20 minutes after you eat because it will not sit right with you. P.S. don t know what the yellow animal heads mean

This is the place to enjoy a solid burger, plus a festival of whimsical takes on celebrities, including you as one of them. I was Yoda during my visit and I couldnt have been more pleased. Of course I had to try the millionaire burger, a literal pile of tasty components from a fresh, light bun on down. Dont expect to be able to hold on to the burger with it, unless you finish the side order of onion rings drizzled in truffle aoilo that form a tower on top. I was foolish to order a side of fries too (but really not because they were quite good), especially when there were barrels of pickle slices of 6 different flavors free for the taking. Such is the pile-up of experiences with this burger which goes on to include many of the best burger toppers, cheese, bacon, mushrooms, with a but-wait-theres-more type experience. Its only for the hungry and not for the digestionally-challenged but worth the approximately 50,000 I could buy with a million bucks. It might be one of the few great sharing burgers for a couple. Go off prime hours here and enjoy the relaxed, casual, comfortable vibe.

The fries we ordered separate, they brought them together. There was a homeless person who entered the place and they just let her roam around and touch everything for about 20min. The burgers were ok but nothing wow in my opinion. They ask you to clean up after yourself and throw everything out but then there is no space to leave empty dishes and trash cans are small.

Burger was sub par. Hot chicken was the worst Ive had, hard to call it hot chicken really. Fried pickles were so under done they werent even hot. Price is relatively cheap but I wont be back. Shame to see such a famous place turn into another lackluster relic.

The burgers here are some of the best in the city. Juicy and flavorful. Then add some of the wild and amazing toppings and youll be really glad you ate there. Fries are really crispy outside and tender inside. Plus they have a bunch of different pickle types you can sample on your own. Also, if I recall correctly, they serve Oak Cliff soda. Beats the hell out of the market norms
