This place definitely deserves higher than 4.4 stars! The interior design of the place is so modern with traditional elements that reflect our culture. It is so welcoming and clean. I have 4/5 for service just because we had to wait a little long for our food and the waiters need to be more trained in their interactions with customers. The food itself was just so good!!! To me, this is the best habesha restaurant food that I ever had in the US. If you are around that area, please visit this place, and enjoy the experience of good habesha food.

Nice authentic Ethiopian food, or so my friend that invited me says. I do not know the names but will do my best to describe the dishes we enjoyed. My friend ordered, she speaks Ethiopian, so I had no idea of what the English names of the food were. The atmosphere was friendly, but as I already expected, it did take a while for the food to come out. It was worth the wait. Drink: Had a long island ice tea. It was good and tasted great. No complaints. Main: we got a combination family style plate that comes with 4 meats on top of injera with additional injera rolls between the meats. We got the double stewed chicken, one with spicy almost charred lamb chunks and one with stewed lamb. It came with their bread called injera. The best way to describe it is like a sourdough pancake crepe. It has the notes of sourdough and is flexible like a crepe but thicker. Its yeast based, so be careful as I ate 2, and I think it expanded in my tummy. Lets just say it may have caused a grand evacuation the next day. You unroll it and use it to scoop up the stew/ meat. Kinda how you use fufu in Nigerian food. But chicken fell off the bone tender, and of the lambs, I performed the spicy cargrilled one. We also got a separate plate of stewed lamb that came in a red sauce she ordered French baguette bread just in case I did not like the injera. She knows I dont like sourdough bread, but I did not have a problem with the injeras taste. I was worried it would be sticky, but it was not. Dessert: Tiramisu was dee-lish-ous! Would recommend it as it is hard to find a one that is not soggy. Also , I had a touch of milk chocolate flavor, which I enjoyed. Downsides #1 The food was so good I ate til I was glutton style full. Im taking like how you eat at Thanksgiving. #2 I had gas the next morning bad, but it could have been as I dont eat a lot of bread, esp yeast based carbs & the stewed chicken did come with a boiled egg. It is either of the two, so I would suggest having hot tea after or some gas ex. #3 Again, I did not order, but in hindsight, it would have been nice to have some side veggies to try. I know they had a vegetarian platter, but Im not sure if they did them solo as I dont remember seeing sides by themselves.

Positive Aspects: Great food Pleasant atmosphere Negative Aspects: Poor service: staff didn t check in to see if you needed anything additional like napkins or water. Lack of attentiveness: you had to call, clap, or wave to get their attention. Lack of common sense and training: staff seemed unaware of basic customer service principles. Expectation for tips despite poor service. Management issues: overall, it appears there s a lack of proper training and respect for customers.

Services was very slow, but the food was very tasty. Had the Doro Wat and it did not disappoint. However, for the price, it was a huge letdown. Paid $17 for 1 chicken leg and 1 HB egg. Though it was tasty, the value was not there. Pretty sure adding another $.80 cents chicken leg would not hurt the bottom line.

First time visiting the restaurant, and the food experience was mind-blowing! We loved everything we ordered. However, we really didnt like the service we received. We ordered one combo from the menu for 3-4 people (we had 4) and two appetizers. The waitress said we were still not ordering enough for four. But when the food was served, it was way more than we could eat. But thats fine. We ordered a tea at first, and she forgot, but thats fine too. What wasnt fine and pissed us off a little was when we had ordered a special tin coffee before the food was served and told her we wanted the coffee served after the food. After we finished everything and asked for the coffee, she told us we had to wait 20 minutes for the coffee to be prepared which hasnt started. My husband usually tips big, but I told him just to tip average because this was bad service.

Desta is a wonderful restaurant. The staff are friendly and helpful. Service can be slow at times - if some of the cooks are unable to work that day/night. But, the food is transcendent. It sends me to my happy place! If you have never tried Ethiopian food, I encourage you to try the Desta Ethiopian Restaurant in Dallas, Texas. It is worth the trip. To forewarn newbies, Ethiopian food is traditionally served with injera bread (a spongy flatbread similar to a crepe). You tear a piece of injera off and use it to pick up your food to eat it. If you are not adventurous, they are happy to provide western silverware. Enjoy! Kid-friendliness: They have kid-friendly western meal items for little picky eaters.

Then we ordered traditional coffee and enjoyed warm baklava and ice cold tiramasu for dessert. Probably the best tiramasu Ive ever had. The whole meal, Wow! We will be back. You know its an authentic place when you walk in and the waiters and customers are all speaking another language thats not English. Was recommended to check out Desta from a Nigerian friend and came with another friend who wanted to try Ethiopian food for the first time. Im no expert but we had a good time. The menu was a little difficult to navigate and our waitress wasnt fluent in English, but she knew enough to help recommend some dishes to us. We got the veggie combo with injera (kinda like a thin sour fermented pancake) and lamb tibs (non-spicy, not dry). It was a great experience. Everything came out on the injera and you would pull and rip some out to wrap the veggies or lamb (they put the lamb right in the center). There were also extra rolls of injera. No utensils and hand sanitizers gave us the heads up it would probably be a hands-on meal. There were different veggies some a little spicy for me, but we enjoyed ourselves and it was more than enough for 2 people. Prices are reasonable too. About $42 after tax and tip in total. I heard they are also known for their drinks. Overall a great introduction to Ethiopian cuisine and Id be excited to come again

Best Ethiopian food in Dallas, and arguably, in the US! Ive eaten at Desta at least 50x, and the food is always phenomenal. I lived in DC/MD where there are 100s of Ethiopian restaurants, and Desta knocks them all out of the park. Ive dined in at Desta and also order delivery via Uber Eats, but Ive been so disappointed the past few months as Desta seems to have vanished from Uber Eats. Please return on there, I cant always make it there for pick up, and I am having withdrawals! My favorite items to order are the kitfo, lamb and beef tibs, and Ive had most other menu items, as well. Always fresh and delicious. Their injera is also top-tier. Ive never had it as fresh at any other place. You wont regret visiting Desta for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

The tender chicken simmered in a flavorful berbere sauce, and it was served with injera, a spongy sourdough flatbread that was a perfect complement to the dish. Braga Farms Bragas

I ve had many Ethiopian restaurants but this might be my favorite. The vibe of the restaurant feels very authentic, and it was packed on a Saturday evening. We got the mixed vegetable and meat platter which was incredible. For the meat, they let you get chicken tibs which was amazing. It was super reasonable for the amount of food you get. I was impressed and will be back!

I had the pleasure of dining at Desta Ethiopian Restaurant and ordered their Veggie Combo, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience deserving of a 5-star review. The Veggie Combo is a delightful array of Ethiopian vegetarian dishes that left a lasting impression on my taste buds. Each component of the combo was not only delicious but also beautifully presented, adding to the overall dining experience. The variety of flavors in the Veggie Combo was remarkable. From the rich and savory lentil stews to the perfectly spiced vegetables, every bite was a taste sensation. The injera, a traditional Ethiopian flatbread, served as the perfect accompaniment, complementing the dishes excellently. The portions were generous, ensuring that I left with a satisfied appetite. The quality of ingredients and the authenticity of the flavors made this meal a true culinary delight. The restaurant itself provided a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the service was top-notch. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, helping me navigate the Ethiopian cuisine, which was a new experience for me. In summary, Desta Ethiopian Restaurants Veggie Combo is a must-try for anyone looking to explore the world of Ethiopian cuisine. The flavors, presentation, and overall dining experience were outstanding, and I look forward to returning to sample more of their menu. Its safe to say that this restaurant has earned its place among my favorites, and I highly recommend it to all food enthusiasts.

the food here is delectable! i have only had ethiopian food a few other times, but this is my new favorite spot. I shared the meat and veggie combo with two other people and we couldn t even finish. It was so much food for the price. Plenty of delicious veggies and lentils. I highly recommend the chicken, it was well-cooked and so flavorful. Sambusas were good too, very crispy.

My recent dining experience at this restaurant was nothing short of a disappointment, primarily due to the abysmal service. It pains me to say that, but it s the truth. No waitress bothered to come to our table to take our order. We sat there, ignored and increasingly frustrated, to the point where we practically had to beg for someone to pay attention to us. It felt like a comedy of errors, but sadly, it wasn t funny at all. The complete lack of attentiveness from the staff was astonishing. It s disheartening when basic customer service principles, like promptly taking orders and checking on diners, are blatantly disregarded. This level of apathy towards customers is inexcusable. I had heard positive things about the food at this establishment, but the pitiful service experience overshadowed any potential enjoyment. It s truly a shame because good service can elevate even a mediocre meal, but in this case, it was nonexistent. I sincerely hope that the management takes this feedback to heart and makes significant improvements in their service quality, as it s crucial for the success of any restaurant.

Food was autthentic Ethiopian and flavours were as expected of good Ethiopian food. Service tho was at best mediocre and the staff was not helpful nor polite even though I went with an Ethiopian friend. The server even came after me in the carpark and said she does not accept coins with the tips and just kept the bills but returned the to me, Frankly not very polite or thankful that she has a job to begin with. I met the owner once though and she was very polite and kind.
