I couldnt go to Texas and not get any bbq. My niece found this place and it didnt disappoint. Small black owned family business. Food was on point!! Beef brisket was soo tender, well seasoned and with the bbq sauce it was finger licking good!. The owner came out and introduced himself, staff checked on us often and even gave us free samples of thr peach cobbler. We were thoroughly happy with the food and the service. Would definitely visit again if Im ever in Dallas again!

Smokey John never disappoints! The staff is friendly and courteous. They slice the meats to order, and have no issue if you want lean or moist brisket - always slices exactly as I request. Sides are tasty and portions are good. I travel through Dallas a few times a year and this is always one of my stops.

I am not in the area that often I usually fly out of DFW but anytime I land at Love if not in a rush around lunch I pop in. I usually get a link sandwich, stuffed baked potato, or try a daily special they may have. Yesterday it was the catfish strips. Without fail you get good food, and great customer service. I can t think of a time when Bret and or Juan did not stop by just to check on , or just say hello. Their dad would be so proud of them.

Always a great experience at Smokey Johns. I used to work in the area and go there for lunch. Food was so good and filling we would only go on Fridays. After lunch productivity would be down in the office. :) lol. They have catered events for a non-profit I work for and it was amazing service and food. Anytime we experience them on weekday, weekend or at the State Fair of Texas. They always make you feel like one of the family. The ribs, catfish, collard greens, stuffed baked potato, and brisket queso are amazing. At the State Fair there others doing smoked turkey legs. But only Smokey Johns gets the turkey smoked RIGHT....To the bone. I have been fan, my wife moved here 28yrs ago and she is fan, our son is fan. Thanks for doing what you do and feeding the community and providing jobs and a great atmosphere you want to visit over and over again.

1st time here and to rate it 5 stars is unfair should be 8 stars, from the moment I walked in I knew it was going to be great because if the food was 1/2 as good as the smells that woke up my taste buds then I was exactly where I wanted to be, 1st I got some help from a wonderful lady as to what I might consider to the young man preparing the plates who asked me was this my 1st time here? I nodded yes and across the counter comes not a sliver but a wonderful chunk of brisket that melted in my mouth. As well as each server down the line to the cashier I can truly say they live their motto WHERE GOOD VIBES MEAT! I truly got the VIBES and the MEAT oh 1 more thing here is another privately owned business that offers a military discount! Came in with a very large party on a Saturday. Although the line started a little slow, we were getting food in no time. The service from the meat station was top notch. I had the chopped brisket sandwich, fried okra, peach cobbler and a taste of the queso fries. Others at our table had the ribs and sausage, macaroni and cheese, and beans. Some tried to order Ham or baked potatoes, but they were sold out. We were there at 6, so come earlier if thats what youre craving! Also, I believe food service ended at 7 or 730 and they closed at 8, so if you come late you may be disappointed. I enjoyed my meal. The okra was crisp and salted to perfection. The beans and mac were not a crowd favorite, but the ribs were getting great reviews. Definitely grab the lemonade, its equally sweet and tart. The price was a little steep, but thats to be expected from BBQ. The crew checked on us regularly, and were quick to clear plates. They made the experience for me!

I ordered the Big Smokes Pack (4lbs meat, 2 pints sides, bread and gallon of lemonade) and the brisket I saw getting cut wasnt the same brisket in my container. It was a bait & switch as I moved down the line to order my sides. The sides were average at best--most felt like what you could buy at Krogers. Cornbread, same thing. The place is way overrated. Bang for the buck--just pick some other place like Cattleack Barbeque. The nicest touch, all their company owned vehicles park right in the front...customers can walk it. Very classy. Parking: This place parked all their company owned trucks, can right up front. Customers, walk it. Kid-friendliness: I didnt see any kid friendly tables. Wheelchair accessibility: This place doesnt have wheelchair access and even if they did...good luck with opening the doors.

We recently visited Smokey John s for the first time after seeing it mentioned on You Tube. The service and cleanliness of the restaurant was great. The food just ok. The brisket sandwiches were average/typical BBQ restaurant quality. Didn t care for the watery, vinegar-based sauce. The sides were the usual mac-n-cheese, baked beans, green beans, etc. The potato salad was pretty good. Banana pudding was ok if you like it with just pudding and cookies, no bananas. The overall visit was average so we might return to give them another try if we re ever in the area again. Sorry, did not take photos.

Lets get to the point. Not good, BBQ. As I was eating, I was thinking about giving a better review, but then I got to the dry and tough ribs, and that is when it changed. The brisket was okay, but I did not realize they did not trim much of the fat off before slicing mine, so it was almost 50/50 fat to meat. The sausage and turkey are no different than most of the other BBQ places around town, just average. The sides were above average, but it is more about the meat at a BBQ restaurant than Mac n Cheese, beans, greens, etc. They have just about all the normal sides. I wanted to try a bunch of different things because this was my first visit, but $50 for a pound of meat plate, two extra sides, and a drink is way too much for the quality of meat I received. Great staff, but you come here for the food. There are a lot of good reviews here, so I hope my visit is not the norm. Maybe this will be a wake-up call to re-visit their process and have quality checks a little more often.

I came twice this week for the garlic spicy sausage on the menu which is probably my favorite item this far. I came on Tuesday and purchased one spicy garlic sausage link for $2.70 and today I was charged $8.36 for two of the same links. When I asked the cashier who was very polite about the change in price, I am assuming the manager from the back stated the price is because of the weight. I do not think that s the case. I would have been more understanding if you stated the price was the same as a sandwich which is what you charged me for a sandwich. I also don t understand why there was slight attitude and eye rolling from the short lady working on the line when I asked about the prices. A question is not the same as a complaint. I just wanted to know the explanation for the change in price.

$22.75 for the sandwich with 2 sides and a soda. The brisket was good, but it was cold. Just slightly above room temperature. The slab was just sitting out on a cutting board, no heat lamp or salamander to keep it warm. They give you a little condiment cup of sauce, it needed about 3x more bbq sauce. Its a bbq restaurant, and the skimpy sauce was disappointing. I had the potato salad and mac n cheese for the sides. The mac was meh. Not much flavor. Needed copious black pepper and hot sauce to make it taste like more than just noodles. The potato salad was good, a solid, traditional mustard potato salad.

The delectable flavors on offer at Smokey Johns Bar-B-Que & Home Cooking simply cannot be described adequately through mere words. The only way to truly understand the deliciousness is to experience it for yourself. The catfish is so fresh and flavorful, it will leave you craving more. The sausage links are not just tasty, they are downright addictive. Every bite of the Salisbury steak transports you back to the warmth and love of a homemade meal prepared by grandma. The smoked chicken is so juicy and tender, it practically falls off the bone with every bite. And lets not forget about the undefeated champion of comfort food - the Mac and cheese. But the culinary delights are not the only thing that makes Smokey Johns stand out. The customer service is reminiscent of the hospitality and warmth of New Orleans. Its rare to find a restaurant that not only excels in food quality but also provides a welcoming and homey atmosphere. In a city where restaurants come and go, Smokey Johns is a gem that seems destined to stand the test of time. For those seeking a true taste of Southern hospitality and unforgettable flavors, this establishment is a must-visit. Trust me, you wont regret it.

One of my friends and I were visiting from California, and we had a taste for some barbecue. So we googled places, and this one popped up. We saw the reviews, and they were great, so we decided to give it a try. We were overly pleased with everything. The service was awesome, the food was tasty, and the ambiance was great. If I could give them 10 stars, I definitely would. If you havent been here, you need to check it out.

My thing with this company is how they treat their employees after you leave. They dont want to pay you for your last days there. Been calling leaving messages for my W2 no one ever replied and calling one of the owners of the company one of the brothers. I finally did some research and found them on my own the disrespect they have for their ex employees. Sample manager told me if I didnt get the CASH TIPS they sent by mail that would be my lost. Great food but as far as ever working there or coming back one and eat there NEVER

Holy cow this place is gahdang amazing! My gal and I try all kinds of BBQ in San Antonio and Austin and when we came to Dallas we decided on this place and it absolutely did not disappoint!! Its soooo good!! As soon as the woman took out the brisket and it jiggled on the cutting board I knew it was gunna be good. She cut me a small piece to try and I couldnt help but laugh at how utterly juicy, tender and smokey it was. I got a sliced brisket sandwich and my gal got the catfish and both were fan-freaking-tastic! I dont even like catfish, but I couldnt stop picking at hers. The breading on the catfish was perfectly seasoned and crispy and tasted almost like a chicharrone it was Sooo good! Back to the brisket, that too was perfect. They give you sauce for it, but it honestly doesnt even need it. That being said the sauce complimented the brisket flavor so well it legit made the amazing sandwich even more amazing-er. We are 100% coming back here any time were in Dallas and we are seriously likely gonna come back later tonight. Lol Do yourself a favor and eat here! You wont be disappointed!!

Wow I try and give restaurants a chance, especially if they have rave reviews. My visit today was a 3. I had blackened tilapia which is one piece of tilapia and paper thin at that & overly seasoned too salty for me. The collard greens were too salty as well but the mac and cheese was very cheesy but bland. I rate the peach cobbler as a NEVER(no taste just sweet syrupy) Id probably give them another try and get something different....that tilapia plate was $15 with two sides and I tipped them so my bill was $29 so now Im Im thinking Id probably not go for a long while

I am originally from Kansas City, and we know we have the best BBQ. We call ourselves KC snubs. However, I keep hope alive that I will find one in Dallas. I smell the smoke coming from Smokey John s that I decided to give it a try. First, I was shocked to see southern style food there. I asked about their ribs and how many do you get with the rib basket. He told me 3 ribs. I kept repeating 3 ribs, to insinuate that he was joke. He was not, and the price of $16 was ridiculous. 3 ribs for $16 dollars. That s $5.88 per rib!

First time coming here had a great experience. Got the lunch special the blackened beef tips in gravy over rice. Came with 2 sides and some corn bread. The mac n cheese was excellent and the yams were also excellent. This is a great soul food place. Their main focus is BBQ which I must admit smells amazing. If you come by the donut ship in the morning ING you can smell them starting up the smoker in the early morning its a wonderful smell of mesquite wood. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere feels homely. Ill come back hopefully with friends or coworkers.
