Cool place but they dont tell you that they automatically add 20% gratuity. Dark bar, tiny writing on receipts, so you end up tipping on the amount you can read which already has 20% added onto it... I noticed a tiny sign by the front door as I was leaving. Deceptive practice.

Beneath The Statler hotel in downtown Dallas, Bourbon & Banter is a hidden speakeasy. The entrance, a nondescript door, opens as you type the code in the pay phone booth. The interior is stylish with dim lighting and plush seating. The walls have vintage posters and artwork for prohibition and nostalgic charm. The old fashioneds were great and the cheese plate was the perfect snack before dinner. The staff at Bourbon & Banter are knowledgeable and passionate about their craft. Loved it!

This is a neat bar with speakeasy decor but the atmosphere was not quite right. The secret entrance, low lightning, and employee s attire all fit the speakeasy vibes perfectly, but there was loud music that didn t match the speakeasy atmosphere. The style and volume of music made it difficult to enjoy the otherwise relaxing environment. The service was good once you go to the bar to get their attention. The bartenders are good and knowledgeable. I would say the drinks are slightly overpriced but it s not outrageous for the setting. I would recommend trying Bourbon and Banter but don t expect it to be overly relaxing. If you have reasonable expectations it will be very enjoyable.

Amazing atmosphere. Unfortunately, we waited about an hour for our overpriced order of cheese and fries. We reminded the bartender that we ordered food and he finally picked it up from the offsite kitchen. My drink had already gone flat and all my ice melted to show you quite a bit of time had gone by. There weren t more than six parties in the restaurant. For two happy hour drinks, two appetizers and the required 20% gratuity for our party of two, we spent $76. I don t need to return.

This bar is a must from the moment you walk in there is a fantastic vibe. All the staff are lovely but William is an alchemist with drinks, I felt like something a little different than the great cocktails on the menu ( I did sample a few of these as well) so all I told him was what liquor I didn t like and not once but twice he mixed the perfect cocktails for what my taste buds were looking for. I would highly recommend dropping in for a cheese plate and cocktail you won t be disappointed.

Very cool speakeasy in the Historic Statler hotel. The atmosphere is amazing and the cocktail list is on par with other speakeasy/craft cocktail bars weve been to. There is NO whiskey list, so know your bottles because thats the only way youll be able to tell what they have. The service is not what it should be for a place like that. The whole hotel lacks the level of service that is expected with that calibur, so it was no surprise it carried into the bars. The manager, Christine, needs to train everyone on how to treat customers, because she was the only thing good about the service. A speakeasy that is so cool you have to access it by a phone booth should have excellent, almost elite service and unfortunately, they do not. At the very least, the girl servers should be required to wear a bra. SMH

I walked in with my wife and another couple, I asked the gentleman was the table available. He replied no, so we went to the bar only to turnaround and the couple I walked in with was given the table with no reservation. The reason I know is because I asked them. I go to the bar and was acknowledged that she had several in front of us, I was okay with that. So as Im waiting the male that was washing dishes told me I was to close to the rope only to notice he wanted me on the other side so he could pass his vape pen back and forth to the guy next to me. I continue to wait on our drinks after she waited on the 3 people ahead of us. She never came back. My wife N I walked out and will never patronize this establishment again. Im sure there are cameras in the building so pull up 1130pm and you will see it all. Please dont respond. Thanks.

The cocktails were not as expected, they were okay, a bit expensive and fell flat. Our friend ordered a mock tail and returned it, too sour. We had the rat tail and a pompadour both were excellent! I think this place is nice to enjoy a couple of drinks or if you really know your stuff, I m sure the bartenders would be happy to create something for you. Made a reservation for 4 people Saturday night 8:30 pm, on the day of I called them multiple times and left a voice mail stating we will be running 15 minutes late. We show up and the place has a sign closed for a private event, manager stated hey we sent text messages to everyone (which they didnt) we sent a message via Resy (which they didnt) He was nice enough to say sorry I cant do anything and have a good evening.... Needless to say I would not trust a reservation at this spot or have any respect for the management team.

From the moment we stepped into Bourbon and Banter, we were transported to a 50 s prohibition night bar. Speakeasy style enhanced the mystery by entering via Payphone and a secret code. Besides the atmosphere and the amazing drinks, what really put this place over the top was our bartender, Juan. He smelled like pheromones and a late summer nights rose garden. I can t get the smell out of my head. I actually have been sleeping under the bar every night just to keep the cravings away. This place is 10/10. Please check it out and ASK FOR JUAN. A cute speakeasy located in the Statler hotel downtown. Bourbon & Banter, as its title states, is a bourbon cocktail bar. This also means they have a limited food menu. However, I did order the brussel sprouts and they were delicious - cooked to perfection and the vinaigrette was the best. I also ordered a drink, The Lover Boy . It was smooth and aesthetically pleasing. The bar itself is small, but has ample seating. It s very dark as well. It gives a mysterious yet classy vibe. I would definitely recommend for a date night or just a moment to unwind after work (which is why I was there). For both items, my drink and brussel sprouts, I spent about $29.

Absolute worst experience with a bartender I ve ever had. Last Saturday night I ordered 2 whiskey sours with Jack. The bar tender confirmed with me twice that I wanted Jack. And then used Makers Mark so she could charge me more. And the worst part was, she didn t make a whiskey sour. She mixed whiskey with some kind of nasty sweet and sour liqueur that you would put in a margarita. By far the worst tasting drink I ve ever been served. Whiskey sour is a basic cocktail. To the owner, do yourself a favor and get rid of the lady who was tending bar Saturday night, 3 days ago.

A friend and I came here this past Saturday. We asked the bartender to give us a minute as we went through the menu to view their drink list. The bartender never came back to check in on us. Instead, he began serving other guests that would walk up to him without asking them to wait until we placed our drink order first. The only difference between us and other guests was our ethnicity. This behavior went on for about 15 minutes from the bartender until we simply decided to leave. Bourbon and Banter seems to have fallen short on its diversity training in regards to its staff.

Then a manager said he d comp appetizers and a few cocktails so we changed our itineraries around again to accommodate them. Day of the reservation with just a few hours to spare we were told it was canceled!! Again this was for another party that had just booked! We traveled from Ohio and Tennessee with this being one of the reasons for the travel as a gift for a few in our party. Thank you for trying your best to ruin our few days in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. But you failed at that. Our money and company was welcomed in Fort Worth. Will never travel to Dallas or you establishments however Fort Worth is a must see. Very welcoming and fun. When in Fort Worth go to Pete s Piano Bar, The Stockyards, Billy Bobs, and best of all- Thompsons Book Store. The best bar in Fort Worth with yes a secret speakeasy and the best hand crafted cocktails. So again Boubon and Banter and Waterproof staff/ management thank you from saving us from you and your rude staff and mismanaged venues. Our thousands were kept in Fort Worth.

I do not recommend going to this speak easy. My friends and I came here on a Saturday afternoon and we received horrible service from their waitress, Mo. From the very start Mo had an attitude when she was taking our drink orders, she slammed our drinks on the table and even talked back to us when we asked for the check. We vocalized our concerns with the manager and he poorly tried to defend her actions by saying she was busy with serving four tables seriously? If you cannot handle four tables then maybe you shouldn t be in the service industry. We did not feel like Mo deserved a tip and when we checked our bank statement we noticed that Mo added a tip to our check. Please spare yourself a headache and do not come here for drinks. You are better off going literally anywhere else.

I don t even know where to start. My friends and I were traveling from California and were extremely excited to experience this spot. First of all, they didn t have my reservation when I was showing them my email confirmation. Second of all and the main reason I m writing this review, was our waitress. By far the worst experience I ve encountered at a bar. She was extremely rude, unwelcoming, and made us feel like such a bother. She took our drink order, didn t greet us/welcome us, asked how we were doing. When she came with water she slammed one of the glasses and nearly spilled one of them on us, didn t apologize. She came back and stared at us and after a couple of uncomfortable seconds, asked if we were going to order food, we said no, and she simply walked away. She never came back to check on us or to ask if we wanted another drink. After waiting for so long, we couldn t even flag her down to close out out tab. I had to stand up and ask her at the bar that we wanted to close out our check. After asking her, she yelled and with attitude replied: I ll bring it to the table . She never did and sent another waiter. This waiter was supposedly the manager and instead of apologizing after we vocalized our experience, he justified her behavior and attitude. He made poor excuses for her behavior. Saying she was overwhelmed and was extremely busy with the 4 tables she had. On top of that experience, we did not tip as we felt that it was not deserved. Later to find out, they added themselves a tip. Terrible service all around. Save your money and frustration. You re better off going literally anywhere.

Worst service, do not recommend going here and will certainly never return. We spent the night exploring speakeasies around Dallas to celebrate my acceptance into dental school. It took over 15 mins to have our order taken. We were then rudely asked for a card after getting our drinks, and waited over 15 mins and had to stand up and ask for our card back and to be tabbed out. The waitress who rudely asked for the card walked away without saying a word, and did not help us tab out. The only nice, helpful person we encountered was the hostess.

The hostess didn t seem to care one bit and wasn t empathetic. I had friends drive over to downtown Dallas and we then had to pivot at the last minute. The bar itself looked interesting and smelled great but I m now hesitant to give this place another chance with the possibility they have booked a private event and cannot accommodate.

I made reservations for Bourbon and Banter over a month ago. I got a text yesterday confirming I still intended to attend and I confirmed. I got to the bar and saw a private party sign out front which of course was confusing. I entered the code to enter the bar and was told they were having a private party. This was done absolutely unapologetically. We were told that it didn t matter that we had a reservation. This is a bar using a reservation system. I can t imagine the private event was schedule the same day. Why are you allowing guests to book on days there are private parties? Why is there no protocol for reaching out to guests to inform them their reservation cannot be honored? I had been looking forward to trying this bar for over a month. I m really surprised at the experience.

Was highly recommended to us and was disappointed with the experience. Love the entry, feel like it s going to wow you with what s behind the library wall, and using the phone is definitely a neat speakeasy touch. But when you walk in, the lighting is spoiled by a bar TV. We ordered two high end drinks, one of which was supposed to have a candy top and the bartender barely used his torch to create a crème brûlée top. The whole point of that drink is the crème brûlée top why be lazy and not provide it. If you re looking for a semi experience of a speakeasy, this is okay. But trust me when I say this, there are much better experiences.

I never write reviews but this experience was NOT good. Before I even start, I will say the staff was doing the best they could, and I will not fault them because they were sorely understaffed, but I had to find a server to order drinks (took maybe 20 minutes for anyone to take our order after I went to find someone), then we unfortunately ordered food. Now this is the issue: they get their food from Primos also in the Statler that is ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BUILDING. That and the fact that they had maybe one or two servers covering the whole restaurant (and they were actually servers they borrowed from Primos!), they had to run across the whole building to get our food which took an HOUR AND A HALF to get, and the fries were cold. I will never return. Such a bad experience. You need to hire more people or just not serve food! It was awful.

We asked one bartender for a menu. She gave it to us and never came back. The male bartender looked past us and never talked to us. A couple came in to our left and he immediately walked up to them and asked what are you having? The ONLY nice person was the hostess. She greeted us when we arrived. We showed up to this frigidly cold speak easy and had 3 different bartenders who couldnt remember our drinks and never brought over our food. The drinks were OK, but especially on the egg white drinks I was not very impressed. The bartenders were friendly and professional, but its frustrating to expect a casual cocktail attire only bar with high prices just to get better service from the bars down in Deep Ellum. Our waiter disappeared and never came back. The food and drinks that did come were not good. We were so tired of the bad service that we decided to leave but couldn t get anyone to give us a check. We literally could have just walked out but didn t want to dine and dash. Finally after another 30 minute wait, they brought over the check. We wanted to leave so didn t bother splitting it up. They came back after charging our card with an added 20% service charge that was not present on the initial receipt. We complained politely and they kicked us out. The manager was incredibly rude and would not even apologize for the terrible service. Not worth the cool experience of having a phone booth open a door.

Will NEVER return! The expectation was high based on pictures and from the beginning when it opened. Spent time on the rooftop (the highlight) but made reservations at 11pm for Bourbon & Banter. Upon entrance, the air was stuffy and sticky. The host gave us a choice of a booth or table. The booth was occupied but they were checking out. Another group came in and we offered our table. Because it was clear that staff was low. Finally seated ordered a couple of drinks and the charcuterie board. Poor service!! My glass was extremely dirty and I wouldn t be surprised someone spit in my drink. The charcuterie was not worth the price. And they said no more bread crumbs was available. Is this what you get when reserving a table at 11pm. Compare the drink in my pictures from the others, guess you can be the judge, as to why the one . This might be the worst experience in Dallas. Don t waste your money or time. The rooftop was definitely a better time and experience. So glad another couple ended up leaving rather than join us. The host is in the picture. She caught an attitude throughout my experience. But she could be over worked or just don t give 2 f$&ks or just my party of 2.

Before COVID we loved going to this bar. The drinks were good, the atmosphere was great, the staff was amazing. Tonight was our first time back, Ive never in my life been treated as I was tonight. We meet our friends for a celebration after dinner expecting a good time and great drinks. Up until our friend left everything was good. After our friends left we ordered some more drinks and then the manger approached. She told us that there a 2hr max and we had been there 2 hrs & 45 minutes, which was untrue, we were 10 minutes till the 2 hr mark. She told us we either had to go to the bar or leave. I would have been okay if the bar was full or was told ahead of time. Nowhere on the website or when I made the reservation was that stated. It definitely wasnt the case pre COVID. Our waitress disappeared (after the $95 tip) and left it to the manager. She rudely left, stating she was checking on our drinks. Then some guy walks up and says I hear your giving my girl a hard time. We were taken aback and tried to explain the situation. After explaining that we had no idea what the policy was we were told we to leave. Honestly, we were not causing a problem, we were spending money. If they had been kind and diplomatic we would have gladly moved. We arent unreasonable people nor were we drinking too much. The guy treated us like we were causing problems and needed to be escorted not only out of the bar, out of the hotel. We were never belligerent until the end due to how we were treated. The bar was not busy, we have seen it way busier. There were 5 tables open, including a 4 top and not a whole lot of people not at a table. This will absolutely be the last time I go there

We were keen to try the food, but the kitchen shut down at midnight, so that didn t happen. Please mention that on your website. We went to leave and walked toward the green exit sign. I am unsure if we just came on a bad night, but the service was substandard and I guess the hardwood floor had just been shellacked. Although my shoes were sticking to the floor, I went in since we came to have drinks for a friends birthday. Minus my sticky feet, the night started well. The food was great and so were the drinks. The second round of drinks were not good and we did not want replacements for them. The service was slow due to them being a bit busy with only 2 people (one as waiter and the other as bartender). Eventually the service slowed to a crawl even as they obtained one more server. Once we received the check, I paid the tab and then asked to see the receipt. As I tried to explain that there were an additional 2 drinks on the ticket that we had not ordered, 2 of the 3 staff started to explain to a member of the party why what happened, happened. However, I would think since I was the one who had the issue that she would speak with me. Once she explained to my friend why those drinks were added, I again asked why she hadnt directed her conversation to me. To which she replied I was talking to everyone. I was done after that. I never checked to see if the tab was corrected, (in addition I paid a $20 service fee not sure why though). I know the customer is not always right. However, it is never ok to engage in arguing with them about why the ticket was wrong.

I am a frequent guest of the Statler and I ve been to Bourbon & Banter several times. They have all been great except the most recent visit. I made reservations like I always do and we arrived and were seated. The service was Rhine and the food & drinks were excellent as always, but after an hour and a half, the server let us know that we had to either go to the bar or cash out because another reservation was coming in. It would ve been different if we had been told this from the beginning but not a word was mentioned to me before that moment. We weren t camping, because we ordered every appetizer there was and we were continuing to order drinks, so we definitely would ve continued the evening. I was just really disappointed by this because all of my previous visits, we were able to stay for hours and have our whole evening there. I really like B&B but I m not sure if I want to go back if we are going to be surprised by having to move our evening elsewhere in the middle of our visit.

They cancelled our reservation 45 minutes before it was scheduled. Apparently they had a private event scheduled a week in advance but still confirmed availability when we booked. When you cancel on patrons at the last moment it leaves no room to schedule anywhere else. All dressed up for date night and no where to go; but def not going here in the future.
