I LOVE BBQ! But Vernons did NOT impress me. My fiancé and I shared a 3 Meat Plate with Sausage, Brisket (Point Pieces), and Ribs. The sides were the Grilled Squash and Mac and Cheese. -The brisket was dry, very bland in taste, doused in BBQ Sauce and didnt pass the Pull Apart test. -The sausage was dry as well, hard to chew, and still drenched in BBQ sauce. -The pork ribs were good but drenched in BBQ sauce as well. -The grilled squash had the strong grill flavor but nothing more than that. -The Mac and Cheese was bland. Needed to add Salt and Pepper for tolerable flavor. But it didnt help the texture of the cheese sauce. -The woman behind the counter was kind and did her job. Unfortunately, she did drop one of the ribs we were supposed to have and never brought us the other rib. -The bathrooms are behind the building and quite stale when it is warm outside. Vernons was mediocre. Nothing to race for.

Great spot for lunch. Stopped here the other day while traveling thru Conroe. The girl behind the counter was supper helpful and made few recommendations. The two meat platter was generously portioned and came with two sides. The brisket was great but the ribs were extremely fatty. The coleslaw was very good and the fries were done just right. The dining room is spacious and there s also an outdoor patio if you choose to eat outside. They also sell beer in addition to fountain drinks and lemonade

We have not lived in Conroe very long, and we have been searching for a good BBQ place. We were very hopeful for this restaurant, but we will never waste our money on Vernon s again. The staff was very rude, the portions were so small, the meat was unbelievable dry, and the tables were all dirty. They forgot to put chicken on my plate so I had to go back and get it. When I did, they acted like I needed to show them it wasn t on my plate. Definitely do not waste your money here.

Employees dont get your orders right and saying anything about it, because they will accuse you of stealing and the owner doesnt care about losing customers. Bad place to go to. I normally enjoy the food here, but the last few times the food was over cooked and dry. The side of fries counted to about 6 of them. The woman at the counter was extremely rude and unfriendly, she was loudly tearing into the other 2 young ladies about them not doing things right, which would question her way of doing things right by actively embarrassing her employees in front of a crowded place. The last 3 times that we ve been here she s not been courteous but the fellows that were in line front of me, received excellent service with thank you hons and I expected the same service but no, as I began my order, it was a harsh just a minute and what do you want with a side of ugly stared down to me and the rest of my group, I normally kill people with kindness and try to be better than what I receive, but I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere.

1000% yes! Tried this place and its a cute country like atmosphere. A few small tvs and a huge covered patio area! Chicken fried chicken was delicious with a side salad and sweet potato fries. The fries were big so I didnt eat them all, but they were good! The wings were great! Had a nice crisp on the outside, meat was tender, and good flavor! The burgers are great too! I did try the jalepeno poppers and I didnt like them. They were overfried,, had too much cheese and the jalepeno was a bit not to my liking. The Sweet tea though?? Im a sucker for sweet tea and this was refreshing! I will be back to try more menu items and definitely recommend this place

I ordered a patty melt. Got a dry burger patty on toast with American cheese and tomatoes. I asked if this was a patty melt as it should have sauted onions and Swiss cheese. My wife has her usual Brisket Sandwich. I had the 2 meat plate with Brisket and chicken with 2 sides. The brisket was moist and tasty and there was a good portion of it, and as I found out the chicken WAS HALF A DELICIOUS CHICKEN. The staff was attentive taking our order and bringing our food. This is a no frills kind of restaurant. There are peanuts on the table to snack on while waiting for your food. The soft drinks and iced tea are self serve. They have changed everything. Plan on spending more for less. Food is good but you can only order 1 meat of each type on a multiple meat plate. They say there isnt enough profit in allowing 2 of the same meat. As a store manager at Conroe Home Depot I didnt break sales records by telling customers NO. They were once customer based and now just profit based. Must be a new high-school manager. I would have done Conroe analysis to find different meat costs and if need be put an upcharge in place instead of flat out NO. I am done. Too many good places to eat in Montgomery County. Ive only been dinning there since 1998 along with my boys that graduated in Conroe. No longer family affordable. I am sure management has more pleasant surprises ahead.

Wasn t able to eat here. I asked the girl at the counter if any of their meats were gluten free. Her response was, No food here is gluten free. I asked why the meats weren t and she didn t know. She said even their burgers had gluten because they have a bun. I just rolled my eyes. My husband asked her to ask the cooks. She was reluctant but did and came back and said everything had gluten. I m surprised their grilled squash, baked potatoes, green beans, etc all had gluten. It s a shame that a restaurant owner can t educate their staff on food allergies and manners. I love Vernon s. I ve been coming here for pretty much my whole life nearly and I never once have had any complaint other than wait time. Love the bbq baked potato with brisket. 10/10 for me. Wait might be long depending on day and time of day, but if you call ahead normally they ll have it ready to go. This was my first time in Texas. With that being said Ive constantly heard texans say they have the worlds best BBQ and nothing else even comes close. Well the bar was set very high and this was just a discrace to BBQ.. The ribs didnt even have the membrane pulled off so the seasoning didnt even go onto the meat. And there was no BBQ sauce other than this thin mustard tasting sauce. The brisket was dry and tasted like it was a few days old and microwaved. The pulled pork was good, but its actually impossible to mess that up. I was so disappointed at the BBQ here in Texas that Im convinced now that anyone saying Texas BBQ is good must not have traveled much... The McRib better than this and the McRib is trash!!

Great BBQ, Great Atmosphere! Clean. Friendly. Ribs were delicious! Green Beans were a hit! The Smoked Chicken had the whole family drooling! Great spot for family gatherings, dining out w friends and the kids! Good Stuff!

I think it has changed hands. The food was ok, but different. Other than that, it was good. I had chicken strips they where a bit under cooked and rubbery like, so where the fries. I love that place, but was disappointed last night. It may have been a one time thing. I will go back at some point and try again.

Have been eating this wonderful Bar-B-Q for 32 years. Best ever! I could eat a large order of the potato salad and take one to go.If you need Tamales for New Years, there is none better. I am known to buy five dozen frozen and thaw and heat at home. You just cant go wrong on this one. The staff is so polite and work hard to get your food out ASAP. If you go around noon be prepared to wait in line to place your order. With food this good who couldnt wait. Enjoy! Happy New Year!
