The service was good, but the food fell short. We ordered carne guisada and chilaquiles, and both dishes lacked flavor. The portions were small, and the carne guisada had barely any meat. Overall, the food was just okay and didn t feel very authentic, and the pricing could be better.

Came in for breakfast on Sunday morning. Sat on the patio with my dog. Ordered Huevos Rancheros. Eggs were cooked to order. Salsa was ok but made better with their hot sauce. Roasted potatoes were a little undercooked. Coffee was good. Service excellent.

Came here to eat with my mom a few weeks ago. We used to come all the time as a kid and I loved it. The food was okay this time. We had wanted to look at an actual menu, but the waitress told us we had to use our phones. We came in just after 11:30 and were not given chips and salsa, but a couple who walked in maybe 1-2 minuets after us were served with chips and salsa. Neither is a huge deal, but we might not stop here the next time we are in town.

Like another person said, the food was so bland, it had no flavor at all. The prices for the food we ordered are criminal. I ordered the fajita plate and all I got was like a handful of thin chicken strips and onions that weren t even grilled yet. It came with rice and beans but even those portions were small too. The service was fantastic though. I would not say that this is authentic Mexican food.

Taco meat needed the grease drained. Chile con queso needed some onion and chile for flavor and a bit more cheese for thickness; it was too drippy for tidy eating. Shredded chicken in the enchilada filling needed seasoning. Chips, salsa, guac, and tomatillo green sauce on tacos were all excellent. Parking: Small lot off unpaved alley.

Unless you like to use the salsa as a condiment to give your food flavor and a lot of salt & pepper then this place is for you. The Mija s were nothing more than eggs with corn tortillas along with the refried beans that were bland. The service was lacking as well. First and last time going there. Swing and a miss!

My husband and I come here regularly for 2 years. Their food always comes out fast and fresh! We have tried several things on the menu and always happy. I really want to make a point about how great their service always is no matter who is working that day. I swear our chips and salsa are at the table before we can even sit down most of the time, and will refill before youre finished. Theyre always very friendly and ensure you have everything you need.

Stopped by for a quick breakfast this morning and was surprised at how busy they are. Because it s tucked away behind Main St on Austin St, you really gotta know it s there. I was greeted by a super nice lady inside and she quickly sat me. I had a delicious steak and eggs breakfast. The ribeye was cooked medium as I asked and the eggs were perfect. The salsas are really good as well. They serve this with beans and tortillas for $13. I thought it was very reasonable and great to support local Buda businesses. I will assume it s a family/locally-owned business. It seemed like people go there often and hang out - I noticed a few business meetings happening and the staff knew people s names. I m definitely going back for lunch/dinner next time.

I m giving five stars because of what Chavelos used to be. Staff has always been kind. The food tastes a little different in comparison to pre Covid. The menudo used to be the best in Buda Kyle and San Marcos. The spicy salsa used to be on point. The food is good not great anymore. The people still love it. When Chevelos opened you couldn t keep me away from the place. I broke all my grandsons in on their salsa and took every visitor from out of town there. After the ownership changed it began going down hill in food quality, service and overall cleanliness. Yesterday I missed an early doctor s appointment and decided to give them one more try. To start no water, straw or coffee refills were forth coming from my server who stood by a male friend at the next table. When my Migas were brought they came with inedible French fries and flour instead of corn tortillas as ordered. It s sad. Business was slow. I don t know if I will ever go back, old habits are hard to change.

Very good Mexican food. I did not like the red tomatoes sauce that had no flavor to it. The in house made salsa (the spicy) one was delicious. It s dark red/brownish. Menudo was fresh and was delicious. I only wished they served it with diced up Chile Serrano on the onion cilantro plate so one can choose to put it in there menudo. Employees are great and friendly and very attentive. Great service. Muy buena comida. El menudo estaba fresco y no muy grasoso. Salsa estaba buena y picante. Nomas le falto chile serrano al menudo pero estaba muy bueno.

My husband and I were driving to San Antonio and decided to stop at Chavelos Mexican Restaurant. Dont let this small restaurant fool you, its great!! My husband is picky with Mexican food and he loved this place. The service was amazing!!! Our first server was nice and our waitress was amazing!! They were all bilingual which was nice. My husband ordered the mixed fajitas plate and I got cheese enchiladas. The micheladas are good too. If youre in this area I definitely recommend stopping at Chavelos. Well definitely be back.

Really enjoyed dinner here. Staff was awesome and attentive. Free chips and salsa was good, Queso was very subpar (very very runny velveeta). The chicken enchiladas were delicious and our favorite was the fajitas. Their margaritas were amazing and will definitely be returning. Prices were reasonable.

DO NOT EAT HERE! WORST SERVICE & QUALITY OF FOOD IN BUDA! lunchtime- ordered ground beef crispy taco plate to go. $15. The plate does not come with Rice or beans. Instead you get 3 EMPTY taco shells & accompanied of tomato & lettuce in the box. Also a cup of meat. Not sure what type of meat but it was fatty and greasy and felt like rubber. Called to speak with Manger who did not care. He just hung up the phone on me. WARNING: DO NOT EAT HERE!

THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN BUDA! Ive been coming here for YEARS and highly recommend to anyone looking for some delicious, authentic Mexican food. The staff were all very friendly and attentive, the food came out fairly quickly, and Im going to have dreams about their salsa and queso. 10/10!

The quality of the food was mediocre at best. I ordered a ceviche; the fish was chewy, and the portion size was too small for the 15.00 price. My friend ordered a pork chop that was over cooked and charred. Wont be coming back and much less, recommending this place.

Poor quality of food, hygiene of environment, and service (including being charged more than listed price and reciept on two occasions) . I have gone several times, in hopes of supporting local business owners, so it saddens me to decide not to do so with Chavelos owner and staff. Despite the great location and beautiful trees in the outdoor seating, I would highly recommend not going to this restaurant. I hope this feed back is taken by the business and chances are made. It would be a delight to support the owner and staff in the future if changes are made.

I come here most Sundays with my boyfriend. It s kinda a tradition now. We love coming here every time. Great food, good prices, extremely satisfied. Never have I had a bad experience at Chavelo s. 10/10 recommend.
