It was a great place and an Aggie institution. Fond memories of this place when I was going to school here. Sadly it appears that they will most likely be permanently closed following the fire. Wish I could report something different. Koppe Bridge Bar & Grill appears to be a good alternative.

Great atmosphere and good food. Limited menu but there are some occasional seasonal options. Had the Buffalo Bleu Cheese burger and it was messy bit good. Lots of screens to watch sports (Aggie games take precedence of course). Pool table and over 50 years of customer graffiti.

I love their food. But BEWARE , I have a 1 year old and got him chicken nuggets like I always do , and they were too crispy for my son. He s really picky , so I was peeling the breading off and thank god I was. We found a bone in a chicken nugget !!! He could have died if he ate that. Thank y all so much for making his nuggets too crispy tonight !!

Probably a good place but wouldnt recommend it on game day. Cook staff cant keep up. Waited 1 hour for food. Order was missing fries, and burger was cold, top bun hard as a rock and bottom was soggy. Staff was polite though.... just overwhelmed with all the football fans.

Had lunch here and the small Chicken Fried Steak plate was actually pretty filling and not badly priced. Will definitely come back again. A side note though, if your car is low you may want to park across the street, its pretty steep going in and theres holes in the lot.

Not a bad burger...the place has a cool vibe. It gets 4 stars because I waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for my food. Granted they had a crowd. I will tell you to try it. If you see a bunch of cars outside, you might try another time. Dont go on Sunday.

I had the 1/4 pound cheese burger, and order of Tijuana Fries, and a cold Shiner on draft. Total + $2 tip came in at $19, so a little on the high side. Burger was a little small, but overall, the meal was great and tasty! Great atmosphere too! Oh, if you have a car low to the ground (like a sports car) , you may want to park across the street!

Back in the 90s, we used to help welcome international students into our community. Once, we had two Japanese students, freshly arrived, first time in the U.S.A. coming to study at Texas A&M. Naturally, we took them to the Chicken Oil Company. From the outside, it looks like a really old barn, with a bunch of antique tin signs on the walls. Funny thing, now, 30 years later, it looks just the same - it doesnt look like its aged a single day. And no surprise. Their websites headline is we havent changed a bit! And we aint plannin on it As soon as we walked in, the Japanese students eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. They were just looking around and repeating wow!!!. One of them said Wow, this is just what we thought Texas was going to look like. LOL! The inside is like stepping into an old west bar. Rough planking wood floors, walls and ceiling. The walls are covered in trophy animal heads of all kinds. There is a big fireplace in one area, and there is a huge alligator gar above the mantle, looking like some kind of prehistoric fishing trophy. You are welcome to carve your name (or whatever) on the tables, so they are covered in peoples initials and other musings (nothing offensive that Ive ever seen). Basically, this place is the epitome of country/old west atmosphere. The food is really good. I always get their 1/4 pounder with cheese and bacon, and it never disappoints. This place really makes it an issue to stay the same. If you want a really good burger or chicken fried steak, in a great atmosphere, this is your place. If you have guests from out of town, first time in Bryan/College Station. This is the #1 must do. Same goes if you are visiting from out of town. Check this place out.

Used to be one of our family favorites, but sadly, its off the list after this Sunday lunch. Waited 15 minutes to order, then 45 minutes for food. Both burgers were overcooked and cold, wouldnt even melt the cheese a little bit. Everyones fries also cold. Salad wilted and dreary. Chicken fried steak like a piece of cardboard from a factory, fried until dark brown and dry, with watery gravy. Too bad Don Ganter is in his grave. Its probably because they are understaffed during this time of difficulty hiring good people. Maybe it will return to quality, hopefully soon.

Our first visit. Should have tried a burger and maybe will go back for one another time, but the shrimp basket and chicken fried steak will never be ordered here again. Very poor quality entrees. Quick service considering it s counter service. The items we ordered were about on par with a grocery store frozen dinner. We really appreciated the view of others enjoying their burgers, though. Big and bold HAMBURGERS sign on the outside wall with no other food mentioned should have been a big hint for us! Seems odd for a restaurant named the Chicken Oil Co.
