She gave me a summer sports haircut, which is exactly what I needed! Its a one-designer salon with over 20 years of experience. Although its not the fanciest one, it can definitely meet your needs for simple hairstyles at a good price! Sunday is quite a busy day, so make sure to call and reserve before you come. Also, she will remind you to wash your hair before you come, as that would definitely save time and money!

Best place to get a haircut in college station or bryan. Been coming here for 2 yrs after hearing from a a&m professor this is a great place to get a haircut. I used to live in ny and Karen cuts my hair better than all my prior stylists in Chinatown flushing and nyc. Plus costs much less. Super lucky for me! Karen is very kind and always asks how I m doing. She remembers every time how I want my hair cut I just tell her, same as last time!

Karen is a gifted. I had no appointment and had not been to her before. I showed her pictures of the hairstyle I really wanted. She examined my hair and immediately noticed I have straight hair on top and quite curly hair in the back underneath. She explained how she would need to cut it for me to be able to style it the way I wanted. Then she went at it. I had a lot of very long hair that truly needed an unconventional cut. She was fully confident in what she was doing and didnt hesitate. When she finished she explained and showed me the best ways to style my hair with the new cut. Karen gave me the very best cut Ive had in years, she really understood my hair and knew exactly what to do. I absolutely love it and will definitely go back to her. I highly recommend Karen for anyone that is looking for a very knowledgeable and skilled stylist.

Highly recommend, Ms. Karen is awesome! She makes an effort to discuss her plans for the haircut with you prior to any actual cutting, and she tries to personalize each haircut to your specific head shape - which I belive she does to a high degree of quality. I ve been a customer of Star Salon since 2021. My hair is semi-wavy, thick and hard to manage. Karen is the only hair dresser in Bryan/College Station who has been able to give me a perfect cut and address my Asian hair needs. I will be moving away from this area after graduation and will very much miss this place. Karen has been very sweet, accommodating, and loved to hold a conversation with me. The owner s haircut skills are excellent, but she charges different price rates each time to the types of customers for the pretty much same hair styles, $13, $15, $17, $18, and $20. The owners offering good haricut services, but she sometimes gets your appointment time wrong. Star Salon is still a decent barber shop, provided you dont mind the rescheduling and the occasional arguing. Edited: For old customers, if you still think $17 for a haircut is including a generous tip, this isnt anymore. And for the owner of this business, a matriarchal suggestion on life and refusal to say sorry for consecutive appointment mistakes is really not the way. Also, I would hardly count 12:15 to 16:30 as five minutes, and choosing another hairdresser as boycott. I understand the effort to salvage your business, but false statement here is going to further damage your image.

As an asian guy, this is the only place in CS Bryan to get an excellent haircut. The barber places around northgate etc just doesnt work for me. Got a really cool zero high fade comb over in Houston and hoped I could get one at a reasonable price here too. She wasnt sure of what I was asking for at first but once I showed her a picture of myself with the haircut she instantly knew what to do. She took her time and put a lot of effort into getting it right. I was pretty impressed with the end result of my haircut considering it was just $20 compared to the $30-$40 price range in Houston. I have been coming to star salon to see Karen for years as have my family. Before my Mother passed away she came to star salon for years to get her eyebrows done or her hair cut. She has been in this business for over 17 years. She charges different prices for different things. Different haircuts are different prices. A normal trim will be less than a style cut. She is extremely fair in her prices. I think everyone should come to her for any thing she is very skilled at her job. You cannot go to places that are cutting hair illegally. If you choose to give her a tip that is fine she does not ask for one however, and it is not fair to always give her a tip for a normal trim then to ask for a styled cut and so she charges you two dollars more and so you dont give her a tip. She works hard and the prices are already set. There is a piece of paper at the front of the store that have the price on them, and she usually charges less than that because she is a nice person. She does an amazing job on my eyebrows not only on the haircuts. She is the only person I trust to wax my eyebrows. Everyone go to her salon and check her out!! She has been here many years and people always try to take away her business. Student in Taiwan cutting hair illegally and does not have a license to cut. So they want to give her one and two stars on her reviews because they are trying to take her business away. She deserves five stars and thats what I give her.

The conflicts between walk-in and appointment system will destroy this business, especially only one hair stylist in the salon. I scheduled an appointment, and waited almost one hour did not get my hair cut. The lady decided to skip me and cut the next person. For that reason, i will never come here again. Karen has been cutting hair for a very long time. I trust that she knows what she is doing and that she does her best to cater to the customers needs and preferences. In College Station, the fraction of Asian-Americans is relatively lower than other bigger cities like Houston or Dallas. This means that finding a barber that knows how to cut Asian hair specifically i difficult. After going to many different barbers over the course of two to three years, I feel like Karen has given me the best service and consistency. A lot of my friends feel the same way too. Some negative reviews label Karen as unskilled and unreliable. Karen takes the effort to reply to these comments to justify herself, and even offers compensation.

You can tell she really listens to your requests and tries to work with whatever youre trying to get at. I ve been going to Karen for the better part of 2 years and I ve never been unhappy with her work. She s very in touch with the current styles and is fully capable of handling any hair type whether it be mens or womens. The negative reviews on this page are either complaining about price adjustments (her prices are extremely reasonable), or are just plain wrong in an attempt to steer potential customers to their friends businesses. Every regular customer knows that Karen is an expert and would never blow off a customer as described in a review below. Also saying that she only knows how to trim sides is completely disrespectful to a professional who has successfully been in the business for a long time. I will continue to come to her for as long as I live in the area, and she will always be my top recommendation for a haircut.

First time I came here to get a cut, I was very disappointed. Came here again after one year later to give it another chance, but got another terrible if not worse haircut than before. The owner doesnt seem to have a thorough understanding of what I mean by trimmed sides and no touch zone on the front and top of my hair. She just shaved the sides all the way to the top and without permission thinned out my hair. She only knows how to cut hair by shaving off your sides rather than rounding it off or trimming. No proper knowledge on hair cutting whatsoever. I do not recommend this place to anyone who actually cares about their hair as I do. Never coming back to this place.

Karen has been taking care of my hair for almost 3 years. She is very skillful, patient, yet very kind. However, not every time that people can understand her well which caused some misunderstandings. For instance, the dude who gave one star beneath is complaining simply because Karen charged him for 1 extra buck, yes one US dollar. And the reason is because the hair style that dude required was a more complicated one. Karen has put the price list everywhere almost to avoid this kind of misunderstanding. Even though I am American and she is not, that small language barrier has no effect on the finished result. She is a one person salon army! Currently her business is being crippled by the hurtful propaganda by illegal home hairstylists like Hung-Lung Wei, who proceed in telling all the new Chinese students that all the hair salons in BCS cannot cut hair. I even called Hung Wung Lei and contacted the Business of Commerce about these less than legitimate tactics and procedures. Hopefully Karen will get her business back once these people are shut down. Star Salon for the win!! --Hung-Wung Lei must be stopped; he has just graduated this December and is looking for a job while his wife continues to cut hair. The Chinese student body at A&M should boycott the practice and proceed to going to The Star Salon on 29th street instead!!

I was so scared at first because she wanted to cut my hair dry. My hair turned out amazing though. She thinned it out, point cut it and gave me a slight angled bob. I am very pleased and relieved I have found someone who can cut my hair the right way.

The best place in the BCS area to get haircuts for under $10. Especially if you are an Asian male looking for a decent cut. Karen is a true master at her craft and can style and cut your hair however you desire. You can even show her pictures of the cut/style and she will produce. Beware of those advertising to cut hair at your own apt/home or at a church for they are not licensed or professionals. Karen is amazing at what she does. Highly recommended.

We (me, my wife and her family) all have been regular customers for years. Karen is always friendly and does a great job for a very reasonable price. Sadly shes being driven out of business by people going to unlicensed freelancers so go and get your hair cut, eyebrows waxed or whatever you want while you still can!
