This park is so neat with the amount of butterfly s and birds. So cool and very kid friendly! I only did a small trail due to mosquitos carrying me away. There are tons of other flying guys too so bring the bug spray. The foliage provided tons of shade and a comfortable trail.

SO MANY MOSQUITOES!!!! The park store is closed on Mondays. Recommend going to this park in the fall and HIGHLY recommend wearing citronella or lemon grass oils on your clothes and/or any exposed skin. Deep Woods Off worked as well as sugar water!

We had a wonderful time with a group named Down by the Border (organization for children with special needs). We loved the presentation on different animal skulls and feathers, reading of Los Tres Javalinas (twist on The Three Little Pigs), the tram, I Spy activity with a guide helping us find different creatures on the trail, and a walk through the trails with a guide explaining the birds/trees/other interesting facts. The only thing we didnt enjoy (no ones fault except nature) were the swarms of little worms on the ground and falling on us hanging from the trees. The indoor building was nice and cold and everything was clean, including the restrooms. Personnel were very nice. Were definitely going back!

***Tram tours are not offered daily*** I was disappointed to find that out when I arrived. So I rented a bike, only to find out after paying for it bikes are not allowed on all the trails. Only the tram road! So I had to pick and choose which trails to park bike and hike. The gnats were bad. There was no water when I went, so not many water fowl. The state doesnt seem to care for our flag (See photo). Very tattered. They say to pack trash out, but that doesnt include shotgun shells (saw a couple, see photo). The bikes are not for tall people. Im 511 and struggle to raise the seat which was limited in height. Was impressed and disappointed with this place.

Clean well kept state park. Easy access for those physically challenged I would say 75 percent of birds we saw were within a 100 yards. Around the parking lot or near the bird blind directly behind the visitors center. All wheelchair accessible. The bird blind is well kept and unlike many other state parks in Texas had food and water out at 3 to 5 pm. Only knock right now is there is no water the resaca is dry so less birds then I would expect but this year all along the rio grande we are seeing this.

WHAT A BIRDY BIRDING DESTINATION! Superintendent Garza is not just an administrator, his boots are on the ground, I saw him walk the entire tram loop one day when I was here and I saw him driving it more than once. He is a naturalist and a firefighter and he knows his birds. What an asset to Resaca de la Palma and to the state of Texas and to visitors to this beautiful park. The young lady at the front desk, Leslie Rodriguez, is extremely helpful and extremely knowledgeable, she even gave me lunch advice.

I hate to give this place 5 stars as I dont want people to find out about this jewel of a place . I truly enjoyed our visit. If you go, make sure you take your tennis shoes and/or a bike to take advantage of the walking and bike trails. You may also want to consider barbecuing there which is what we did. Being surrounded by nature is much better than eating at a noisy restaurant. The staff are very nice and the building, (especially the bathrooms), are kept extremely clean. Pets are allowed which is another plus (just please keep them on a leash) . Looking forward to going back again!

A great escape from the everyday life of the city. A gem in our own Valley backyard. Me and my little lady rented a couple bikes only to return in time to take the tram. Volunteers Jim and his wife were great. Hardly anyone so it ended up just being us 4 on the tram. They offered insight to the park and stopped at several locations in which we did some nature observations. We had a great time and will be back again. Loved the Armadillos. Spotted several of them scrimmaging amongst the green grass Resaca. Variety of birds out in the open. No bobcat sightings but we did last time.

Margarette and Jacob, who let the hikes we took, were so knowledgeable and open to questions. We also encountered several volunteers who were all enthusiastic and helpful. The park itself is massive with miles of hiking available. The tram will drop you off and pick you up throughout the park. We recommend the monthly night hike. It was great but what really made it stand out was the visit to the observatory afterward. The astronomy grad students who work there are passionate and their presentation was fascinating.

Now that the weather is cooling down a bit, my girlfriend and I decided to visit Resaca de la Palma for our first time, driving from McAllen. Such an awesome place! We rode on the guided trolley, Ranger Margarita was our guide, and she was very knowledgeable about the history of the park, the different types of animals and birds and insects that either migrate through or live there year-round, she was very polite, professional and eager to answer any questions we may have had. She turned our day from being just another walk in a park into a true educational adventure! It is very apparent Margarita loves her job, and with good reason! Such a beautiful treasure of a State park, basically right here in our back yard!

Resaca de la Palma State Park was closed over the weekend (which they gave notice about) but they were also closed on Monday which they did not state on their website. I rearranged my schedule to visit this park all for it to be closed. The pond behind the visitor center was swarming with wasps, maybe that s why the park was closed. Not safe at all! The parking lot was recently paved but not a whole lot more I can say. I even tried calling and no one answered. I m so disappointed with Resaca de la Palma that I m not even posting a picture.

If you enjoy nature this park is for you! Absolutely enjoyed walking around the trails. I was able to see colorful species of birds. Its bike friendly, although you can only use in designated areas. Please pay the entrance fee...its only $4 per adult. Kids under 12 are free. Remember that money helps fund the park.

This was a nice state park. We loved the memorial and observatory. It was good to get out to walk around in nature. The water is dried up so didnt get to see very many birds. The place behind the bird blind really needed to be cleaned out with fresh water for the chachalacas that were there. Bring bug repellent, because the mosquitoes are hungry.

Super peaceful and I really enjoyed myself the park has suffered from the freeze about a month ago so not many flowers right now and during the afternoon not a lot of animal activity but I was able to see at least four species of birds and a cottontail rabbit. Also unfortunately there are a lot of non native grasses and they choked out a lot of natural habitat 4 native animal species. But its well worth an afternoon of Adventure hopefully you like walking youll walk about 4 miles.

This is one of the fantastic state parks that is part of Texas world birding center network. Recently it seems that all of the rare birds are hanging out there and are easily accessible. The staff is friendly and helpful. This is a great place to visit.

Outstanding birding. Nice trails. Could use more benches on the trails for us old folks. Would love to see the blind improved to allow everyone to see the water and feeding area

Nice place for walking, jogging, biking and bird watching. Saw a couple of beautiful and colorful birds too. The main Tram trail is made of pavement and there are other dirt trails. There are benches along the trails and there are barbeque pits to have picnics.
