Summer 2024 There are OTHER better locally owned with great customer service. Came back almost a year later to eat and support local business, but its disappointing that you cant substitute rice for beans. Message to management and owner: you need to put a sign that says NO SUBSTITUTIONS. 2023 Why does the owner of assume that all the customers are theives? They refuse to give a courtesy cup to get water and even when buying bottled water, the employees refuse to give you a cup for ice. According to the employees, the owner has said that because people were stealing drinks, they no longer give courtesy cups. Why is Spankys assuming al customers are thieves?

Second time coming here. First time had a great experience. Second time, my boyfriend and I went to get take out and about 2 parties of 20 people each had gotten there before us. The cashier said we d have a long wait for our food because of the parties. I told them we will order it anyways. Idk who in the kitchen had the common sense to make ours first since it was just two burgers, but good job. We waited about 10-15 minutes after placing our order to go and was back on our way home. Thank you.

This is a wonderful place to go with a beautiful outdoor covered patio on the resaca. The food is great. You order at the counter, both Mexican and American fare, and they deliver it to the table, which is wherever youd like to sit; inside or out! You will NOT be disappointed with the wonderful food either.

This place is pretty good. So far, their food is good, rice and beans are ok. This time, the visit was a little disappointing. First of the bathroom sink was dispensing blazing boiling hot water, and there was no way to adjust it. I let the staff know, but I dont know if they did anything about it. It was hot enough to keep my hand hurting while I ate. Then I was disappointed that they didnt have green salsa and only red. That wouldnt have been a problem had the red salsa been good, it tasted like watered down salsa. Also, one suggestion would be not to put paper under wet stuff, like the lettuce, cause it easily starts peeling and end up in the lettuce and in peoples mouth. Also, my husbands cheese enchiladas had no enchilada sauce. This is not a regular occurrence and I hope its not a sign of quality dropping.

I come here anytime I m in Brownsville. Its authentic homemade style Mexican food. The chicken enchiladas or the mole chicken are my favorites. They have Coke Zero, and they take Apple Pay. Service is always friendly. Relaxed dining area with plenty of tables. They also have a few outdoor tables that I use during nice weather. I m sure there are more gems on the menu that I will try the more I come.

Ice cold beer, awesome apps, and killer grub! Stop by and ask for Mary...she is all heart of gold . Enjoy both Indoor and outdoor dining. I dined on the awesome grilled chicken salad and flautas basket. I washed em down with Heinkens, but they have other ice cold beer selections. It was our first visit at Spankys. We ordered the Mexican Philly Cheese Steak, and it didnt disappoint. Their onion rings are HOMEMADE!! I havent seen homemade in a long time. They were wow and delish. Not to mention their tea!! That stuff is addictive. The staff were very friendly and helpful when it came to ordering. Cant wait to go back and try another item on their menu. Oh, then they have a gazebo to eat by the resaca. Next time, Ill be sure to sit out there.

Love the freshness of the food. Burgers are always on point, and the staff is always great. I enjoy eating inside the restaurant as well. Its always clean, they have some type of sports on the multiple TVs and the atmosphere is nice overall.

I was not impressed by the food, its just ok. I ordered the flauta plate and my husband ordered a burger and fries...My husband really liked and enjoyed his burger however I did not enjoy my flautas...the flavor just wasnt there, the salsa is not spicy at all.I dont think I would go back.

Ordered a patty melt and chicken salad, both were awful, food was way overpriced. Lettuce was wilted, I was told I was going to get chicken soup with my order then got home to find it was spicy tortillas soup, chicken salad portions are tiny. To top it all off I got food poisoning!!!

The place is decorated with antiques, which was nice to see. On the walls, you can see vintage Beatles posters. The music also matches the setting. When we went they were building a nice patio right by the resaca. Food was good. The girl who took our order wasnt very friendly but the one checking the tables was extremely nice and helpful.

Spanks is NOT what it use to be. Food is way different, use to go alot for their beef enchiladas they use to be awesome no NO MORE was so disappointed with my dish technically it was a tortilla literally rolled with ground beef not even oiled just dried and the sauce was not even sauce it was Cheese with water as a sauce and get cheese slices on top of tacos/enchiladas just a huge Flop and for the price was ridiculous so sad. I told the gentleman hey they dry put sauce they only made more watered cheese no red sauce as traditional should be was not impressed. And No Im NOT RETURNING HERE ever again. The cheese burger was not fresh anymore tasted like a frozen precooked patty overall left disappointed idk if they same owners or different owners with different cooks and stayed with the name. Idk but its not the same. Here is a pic of my $10.00 dollar plate that was NOT worth it nor the taste.

Huge menu, including several low fat burger options: veggie, bison, turkey, and black bean. Low prices, great taste, excellent service. Just be sure to check the hours before you go because they do not stay open late. Vegetarian options: They have one or two vegetarian burger options. Not bad for a burger place in the Valley.

The cashier was so kind and helpful pointed out which one she likes the most and which one she recommended! My husband got the toro loco and it was BOMB! super Delicious and fresh. My Burger was the triple meat and I will definitely be getting that again. I totally recommend subbing your fries for the onion rings. They are so crispy and HUGE! they will see us again! They have a little bit of everything! Mexican, seafood, burgers, Phillies! Super delicious. Get that milkshake!!! You wont regret it. All the food is made with love. You can taste it! First time visiting this place, I got the legendary burger, it was good but definitely not legendary. My daughter got a chili cheese hotdog, she didn t like it she said it doesn t taste like the wolf can chili that Made me laugh. Chili wasn t bad. We were driving around Brownsville on a Friday night trying to find a good place for our family to eat. We drove all around with places turning us away or wanting us to wait 1.5+ We drove up to Spankys at 7:56pm and were greeted with smiles and given menus right away. We thought oh perfect finally a place that isnt packed! Little did we know that they close at 8, but they never mentioned it as we missed the sign on the door (we wouldve turned away) thank you spankys staff for being so gracious to us and welcoming us despite us arriving so late

Spankys has been a great burger place for many years. The service is great, the food is even better. Id recommend this location to anyone looking for a good burger. there is handicap parking and a wheelchair accessible ramp. They are COVID friendly at the moment, they ask that you wear a mask upon entering and leave your trays on the table when you are finished eating. Update: This place never fails to impress me! The burgers are delicious, as are the fries. If you are looking for a good local burger place, this is it!

First time visitor. I ordered the Cajun Chicken Burger with chilli cheese fries and my son ordered the Bacon Cheddar Burger. Both burgers were delicious but couldve used a bit more lettuce since it became wilted. It has one thin slice of tomato; wouldve been better with 2 slices since I could barely taste it. Chilli on the fries was a bit sour for my taste. It did come with a small drink. I think $30 for 2 burger meals was a bit too pricey considering. The young lady at the drive-thru window was very nice. I did find it weird that they asked for a tip at the drive-thru window. I gave it 3 stars because it was still and okay meal.

Spankys is a fancy place at a low prices. It has a outdoor seating by the resaca. Wow, this place is #1 in my books. Friendly staff and super good food. Keep up the good food and staff.

Spanky s offers two vegetarian burgers but apparently none of the staff there knows if either option is vegan. This means 1) their patties aren t made fresh in-house because then they would know what was in them! & 2) their staff was literally too lazy to walk back in the kitchen and pull the pre-bought pack of veggie burgers out of the freezer to check the ingredients for me. I try to support local restaurants but this one is a big NO for me based off of service alone.
