The castle is a fun thing to take kids to. My daughter ran around and had a blast. Everyone was extremely nice and the guide knew a good amount of information to make it interesting. The sandwiches are subpar but the baked goods with the lunches are quite good. Its mostly in great shape but they have a bit of a wasp problem currently with nests throughout most of the castle. The ducks are cute and the moat is great. Go to this with the knowledge its a castle house that was turned into a castle to entertain the people who kept visiting and youll be golden.

Fun and entertaining but of Texicana. Mr. Newman built his home as a castle and it became a tourist attraction. Its a fun place, and captures a bit of the feel of an authentic castle - narrow halls, close ceilings (Im tall). Its a fun day trip from Houston and I recommend it.

Very unique and quirky attraction. I didnt book in advance and arrived just as it was closing. Although Chad, our guide, was gracious enough to show us around. Sad to learn of the owners passing but fantastic to learn about a man who turned a dream into a reality and built himself a real, functioning castle.

What a bargain for $20. The castle is hands on and almost entirely open. The inside is not luxurious but realistic and rugged by todays standards. The family that are on site are extremely nice and you can feel a genuine love for Mr. Newman and his vision. Hope to come back and bring family.

The medieval castle is breathtaking, but what truly sets it apart is the incredible staff. Their warm affection for visitors and the passion with which they speak about the castles former owner make the experience even more special. The food served there comes from the bakery that once belonged to the owner, and after tasting the exquisite pastries, we went straight to the bakery to buy more. Highly recommended!

This is a great experience for $20. I see a lot of complaints but I was really happy with this place. You get a funny story/details in the beginning and then you get to explore for as long as you need. We spent about an hour there exploring and getting the included lunch. There are so many little things to look at and take in. You also need to have the right mindset because this is a lot of stairs and mostly an outdoor activity with limited ac. Overall this is a good deal and something worth seeing.

Sadly, this is a no for me. The entrance off the road is not clearly marked, which caused confusion for all the cars ahead of me. When you get to the gate its a wait and the person handing out your wristbands is also the person who has to answer questions, so you have to wait in line until they answer everybodys questions. There are no distinct parking spots, and someone ended up blocking my car in by double parking. It was really crowded and if you want to go up into a turret or a bell tower its a very narrow staircase which means if someones coming down you cant go up and vice versa so you just wait in line. Area where you eat that is air conditioned is not very well air conditioned. I mean, its something to get out of the sun, but its definitely not going to cool you off. Did not even take us 30 minutes to get through the whole place. When you try to drive out, its the same one lane driveway you came in through, so you have to wait for every car coming in, getting the wristbands, and asking questions, until theyve all pulled into the property, so you can exit. Its pretty much alot of waiting around for a few minutes of site seeing. If you live close, okay, maybe its worth it? For me to come from Houston, the time I spent driving there, the mileage and gas in my car, and the cost of admission was not worth it. I did find a couple of antique shops in town that made me feel better about making the trip out there. I rarely give low ratings, but this was a waste of a day :(

Newmans Castle is a unique and quirky attraction, perfect for those seeking an offbeat experience. Its a real, functioning castle complete with a drawbridge and catapult, nestled in the Texas countryside. The tour is led by the charismatic King Newman himself, who shares amusing anecdotes and historical tidbits. The castle grounds are charming, and the included lunch from Newmans bakery is a delicious bonus. However, its important to manage expectations. The castle is relatively small, and the tour is more about the experience than historical accuracy. Some visitors might find the price a bit steep for whats offered. Overall, Newmans Castle is a fun and memorable outing, especially for families or those with a penchant for the unusual.

This was one of the best tours. It was sad to find out that Mr Newman passed away March 13, 2024. He built an amazing legacy. The castle was so neat to tour. You had to reserve your tickets in advance and pay for them at the bakery. Newman s Bakery in Bellville. I can see Mr Newman s dream as you walked the property. The gentleman that took Mr Newman s spot in the tour was super sweet. For $20 a person I would highly recommend this! My son loves castles, so he was able to tell us a lot about the history.

We went to this place on the memorial day holiday. Nice and quiet place with a touch of the medieval era. From the outside of the castle its not possible to tell that this castle was built not long ago. Very well made. We spent about one and a half hours there, exploring the beauty of the castle. The entry fee was $20, that includes lunch and drinks. The lunch was pretty decent too. There were options for ham and cheese sandwiches or turkey sandwiches. There were also cookies, donuts and cake for dessert. There was chilled water and iced tea that you can refill if you need to. Sadly, the place is not wheelchair easily accessible. One star less for that. Parking is free outside the castle. This is a nice place to bring young children. I saw kids enjoying themselves pulling a thick rope that was connected to the . Kids loved ringing that bell.

TLDR: go on a weekday and keep an eye on kids. Reservation system needs work. A unique experience. How to explain this place? We ve never had an experience like it. The owner died two months ago and, based on reviews, the king who welcomed us is a kinder fit for the role. There is a lot of confusion that could easily be cleared up thru an online registration. For one, the phone call instructing us to be at the bakery by 10:30 didn t mention we would pick up tickets there and then head to the actual castle about 10 mins away. There was some confusion about when to leave the bakery. No clear start time was given. Thankfully, we showed up about five minutes before the program started. The king walked out in jeans with a giant sword and a crown. An overview was given of the castle, including an extensive explanation of chopped off body parts they feed to the fish. One kid actually started crying after all the talk of chopped off ears and noses. The presentation was a bit long winded and scattered and I ended up getting distracted watching a water moccasin swim across the moat. It was hot even under the shelter. After the overview, we were free to roam. This is where my mind was further blown. We only had maybe 20 of us enter the castle at the same time as it was a Monday before schools let out. I can t imagine visiting on a day with a bigger crowd. In large crowds, this would be hard to maneuver. Today, though, we had free roam to spread out from others and we took our time exploring. As a husband and wife with an open mind for new adventures, it was fun. I m not sure I d ever visit on a crowded day or with young kids unless you can keep an eye on them constantly. Why? There is a literal bed of rusty nails, a HEAVY pillory made of solid wood that you can get in and out of unsupervised (easy head injury or broken fingers waiting to happen), narrow stairwells, exposed wires and a somewhat dull but still sharp enough dagger on a shelf near the guestbook. It s a gigantic lawsuit waiting to happen. You ll get to ring a tower bell, climb multiple towers and see hand carved furniture. I want to mention this is not ADA friendly unless you desire to stay on at ground level. Youll see an incredible amount of detail in items like door knobs, the curvature of doors in rounded rooms and the chainmail curtain at the entrance to the owner s private residence. You ll see the room where the builder actually lived. It s a mess and you get a peek into the guy who had swords, a crown and a kilt laying around his room, mixed in with a ball cap, artificial tree and lots of books. It s as if they ve left it as he did when he passed suddenly in March 2024. Makes you wonder how much of this was a fantasy to Mr. Newman and how much was reality to him. Two employees were there. Both were nice and King Jeff is very engaging and helpful. Your ticket includes a ham and cheese sandwich, chips and donuts. They ran out of the lunch kits (probably due to the non existent reservation system) so they gave us a paper to drive 10 mins back over to the bakery to get our sandwiches. The sandwiches at the bakery are about $9.50 each so I see why they increased the price of admission - it now includes the meal. All in all? We can say we ve seen a castle in Texas. We didn t break any bones from falls or pillorys, didn t get tetanus on rusty nails or electrocuted by open wires. No one lost any ears to feed the bass. We got to meet sweet King Jeff and do things we most certainly would never be able to do if they decide to hire a liability lawyer. Not sure what happens to this place in the future but a new owner could really benefit from tightening up some safety things, creating a clear reservation process, limiting the number of visitors per tour and selling tickets at the site versus making it a two part stop at the bakery and then the castle.

Pretty place but with no organization, bakery is the same way. Site lies there s no reservations, no limit of people per tour time. They need guides directing people or making people pause to allow people out. Save your money or don t go during a major break, it was more stressful than enjoyable. Interesting design, but the trip could have been much more enjoyable if there wasnt so many people. Over 200 people squeezed into tight places, there was no room to see or do anything. Small staircases that got bottle necked with people trying to get up and down. We just left early. I wouldnt say our 1.5 hr drive or 20$ a ticket was worth the 20 min overcrowded experience. We came on a Saturday, not sure if week days would be better, but we will never come back. Also, the bakery had roaches crawling on the Counters, so we skipped eating there.

I swear some people just cant be happy about anything, nothing is ever good enough! The second we stepped foot on the property we heard some lady go ugh, its so underwhelming. Its literally a castle!! When are you ever going to be in a castle again? Unless you take a special trip somewhere specifically to visit one, which most people cant do. Shut up! And one of the reviews talked about visiting on March 12th, which was the day we visited, and they claimed the speaker kept telling the crowd to hush. Okay, he said it once, calm down! And you complaining that you couldnt hear in the back is exactly why he told people to be quiet. Karen. I will agree that the amount of people allowed in was triple what it should be. They definitely need to cut that or do multiple tours to keep that many people. We got our lunch, which by the way was delicious, (despite the ugly remarks and lies about a tiny sandwich, it was huge) and sat down for about 30-45 minutes to let the crowd disperse. It was much better after that. People didnt stay long and it cleared out fairly quickly so we got a good visit with fewer people. The stairs in the tallest tower are definitely steep and not safe for children but okay, so then dont go up there. Its a bell tower! Not meant to be climbed and played on. Everything else was fine. Kids just needed help going up and down. Yes its $20 per person but again, when are you ever going to see another castle and it did come with lunch, drink and dessert. People complain too much.

Had heard great things about the Newman Castle tour. We made reservations for the tour for March 12th. The tour for 20 people turned out to have probably 200 people scrambling for parking. We tried to listen to a rambling 20 minute presentation which the crowd struggled to hear unless you were standing directly in front of the presenter who kept telling the crowd, which contained lots of young children who lost interest in the first 5 minutes, to hush!. Without a microphone the presentation was unheard by a large percentage of the crowd. When the presentation finally ended, the crowd was released and they surged in to the castle. Huge lines backed up at the steep and dangerous ladders all over the castle making it hard to see many of the rooms. They did provide a very nice little bag lunch and some delicious donuts but there was absolutely no tour and the size of the crowd made it hard to real enjoy what we had heard would be a great tour.

Cool castle. You have to get your tickets from the bakery that you pass in town, not the castle itself. Wear closed-toed shoes because you ll be walking in sand to get to the castle. Parking is a joke. There were at least 200 people in our tour on a Tuesday. They tell you to arrive at 10:30, but we waited until 11 and then the tour guide talked for the next 30 minutes about every room in the castle. Then they let everyone go in all at once wander wherever and it s chaos. Too many people for one tour.

You find a castle in the forest in Texas it was awesome! Tour starts at 11am , you have to be at Newmans bakery by 10:30 to purchase tickets. I believe they are $25. Tour ends at 1pm you get lunch inside the castle, and donuts from Newmans bakery :) recommend wearing tennis shoes and comfy clothes. They are closed Sundays . Call the bakery and make reservations before you head out.

We were in the surrounding area and decided to make a last minute trip to see this castle. I must say to call for a reservation and purchase your wristband at Newmans bakery in town. My mistake was that I thought the bakery was part or nearby the castle property. Luckily I was only 3 minutes away from the bakery in town. There is a presentation at the base of the draw bridge before we are allowed to walk the castle grounds. How awesome that we were allowed to wander around on our own. Although there was a good amount of people touring the castle, everyone was respectful of each other. We were served iced tea and ham or turkey sandwiches on homemade bread and such soft delicious donuts from their bakery. It was a beautiful place to visit. Also, this is still the owners home so please be respectful. If you never get the chance to see a real live castle, this is close to it. Enjoy!

We just returned home from our visit. The castle and story is neat and did see some really cool things. But the drawl bridge and catapult are broken. The sandwich was horrible. The bread was dry and it had one piece of meat lettuce tomato onion and pickle. The dessert the provided was donuts and that was all. I think it was a little over priced.

The guide has a cute introduction to castle with info about the owner, builder, ( the King)! The lunch is simple but delicious!! Fresh baked bread for the sandwiches! Fresh pastries too and the best part is all of those you can eat!! The kids imagination is immediately brought to life when the guide starts talking about how they can save the princess in the tower!! With safe swords they can use to practice fighting the dragons, its a great place to visit!!

Then purchase the tickets in person at the bakery. The tickets are currently $20 per person for older children & adults. Newman s Castle is open for 3 hours each day (10:30am - 1:30pm) except for Sundays. The tour includes Lunch (a sandwich and chips as well as several baked goods to choose from (donuts and cookies).

Great place to visit. You need to call Newmans bakery to make an appointment, and there is only one tour a day at 1030 am. The road to the castle is a little rough at the end, but if you take it slow you will be fine. The castle is very cool, built by a man with a dream. After a short introduction you can walk around and check each room, tower and torture chamber on your own. Some places require claiming the ladder, which makes exploring the castle even more exciting. Lunch is provided, sandwiches, donuts, cookies, cake and tea or water to drink. There is a short walk around the castle to enjoy the views from all the angles. A visit is definitely worth the 20 $ admission.

It was pouring down rain, but we still had access to all areas of the castle except the trail that goes around the pond. Definitely recommend if youre looking for something a little different than the hustle and bustle.

This place was a fun jaunt from NW Houston area, and is a gorgeous property, tucked away from the rest of the world. You have to call and reserve tickets through the Newman s Bakery located in Belleville, which is also the place you have to stop by and pick up your wristbands for the visit, as they don t accept payments of any kind at the castle. Jeff, the gentleman who introduces the castle to you is very jovial and engaging. My two kids (11 & 8), had a good time once we got inside the grounds. As a note, dress for the weather, as most of what you are seeing is outside (we went in winter and it was 35 degrees, but summer would definitely be a warm trip). Parking is no problem, but you do drive about 1/2 mile along a country driveway (pot holes!), so just keep that in mind. There are 13 dragons to find throughout the castle tour (helping to keep younger ones engaged) and there is a large tree branch strung up in the courtyard that can be battled against with the provided wooden swords to help break up the time for the younger ones. The owner actually lives on property, and provides cookies, sandwiches and tea/water refreshments at the end of your tour. All in all, we stayed about an hour, and everyone had a good time! I don t know that it would be worth a multi hour drive, but if you are in Houston/Austin area for a visit and are looking for something off the beaten pathway to do, I definitely recommend it!!

Great castle to visit. Kids will love it. Also good place to take some beautiful pictures. We booked 2 days in advance, you should drive to bakery location first and buy the ticket. They will provide you with blue wrest band. Each ticket is for 20$. Once done u need to drive all the way to castle it s 3 miles only from bakery. parking was available next to the castle. Once the tour is done you can go to the pantry and have lunch. You have option to choose between turkey or ham sandwich (drinks and donuts were also available). This was included with the tickets. The tour guy was so friendly and funny. He did explain us everything about the castle and the king ! P.s the turkey sandwich was so tasty ! . Highly recommended and it s only an hour drive from houston. Press like if u find this review is helpful:)

While I was there either even what looked wedding pictures. Its that beautiful there. And dont mind the king in the castle he is mostly just sleeping. I would recommend climbing all the sit to the top to get a wonderful view of the surrounding trees. It is a straight climb up a ladder so some people may find is difficult but the 7 year old infornt was able to do so.

This has been by far my grandkids favorite part of our weekend trip. Upon arrival we bought our tickets at Newmans Bakery. But prior to that I did call Newmans bakery during the week to make reservations. At the bakery we received wrist bands and directions to the Castle. When we arrived at the castle we walked around until people gathered in a covered porch area. Recieved a tour by a tour guide. He was very helpful and funny. The children and adults enjoyed his story of how the Castle was build. After the tour you can eat in the kitchen area. There is home made bread sandwiches and drinks provided. Take cash for souvenirs.

I really wanted to give this 5 stars but I couldnt due to the customer service at the bakery. The Website instructed me to call and make a reservation. I did. Then I show up at the bakery and its utter chaos. There was no real line, just people crammed at the counter. I asked 3 different people where the line was for people who made reservations. I was told to stand in 3 different spots. I finally got to the counter and told them I wanted to tour the castle. They asked if I made a reservation and I said yes but she didnt ask me my name or anything, she just rang up a ticket for me. The worst part is they all seemed to hate their job at the bakery and not one person smiled at me. At the castle itself though was all smiles and cheer and great service. I had a great time at the castle but getting there was a hassle.

Arrived to a presentation of the history of the castle and what it has to offer, then they allow you to roam free as you please on your own. Beautiful photo ops all throughout and fantastic friendly staff. Went on a Thursday during my sons fall break. Parking is pretty much wherever you decide to stop your vehicle in the woods near the castle- I could imagine it being quite a pain on a crowded day. Luckily, my husband had the forethought to back in to avoid getting blocked in, and we were early enough that we got a good spot. The website says you have to buy tickets (wristbands) at the Bakery, so we did that, but people showed up to the castle that were able to buy theirs there. The guy said he could take cash or card. We got there shortly before 10:30am and had to wait until 11am for the actual presentation to start. The guy gave a long winded history of the place and then finally let everyone in close to 11:30am. Its not a guided tour, so youre free to explore at your own pace in whatever order you want. They provide donuts, cookies, sandwiches with chips, unsweetened tea, and water from the bakery in a dining room area as part of the tour; we werent super impressed with the quality of the food, so Im glad we didnt pay extra for that. Tickets are $20 each. It was a good one time experience.

My husband arranged this trip. It was really interesting to read the history of this castle and the owner. A speaker talks to everyone first and then you are allowed in to explore the castle and the grounds right around the castle. After seeing all the different rooms and furnishings, many made by the owner, a brown bag lunch is served in the dining hall. Really fun for kids. A few young ones actually came dressed as princesses and knights...so cute! You must purchase tickets at Newmans Bakery and Cafe in Bellville. To my knowledge, they are not available at the castle.

DO NOT RECOMMEND!! $20 includes a to go sack lunch of non allergen friendly junk food. The tour is you sitting outside for TOO LONG in the heat listening to a guy describe all the rooms in the castle that you cant see. Then you and 75 others go inside this tiny structure with buildings with only one door (are there no fire codes in this county)? And fight for space to move around. The website is very deceiving and that it gives you the idea that these are small tours of a limited number of people however that is obviously not the case and several people have said there were 100 people on the day they came there was easily 60 to 70 on the day that we were here and that is entirely too many people in such a small area. Heavens forbid they have a fire breakout you wont be able to get out people will get hurt.

This was a great experience!! Loved the tour! We started off at the bakery where you get the directions to the castle, we used the paper instead of GPS to make it feel like a scavenger type. The castle is hidden and not visible from the main road. Once we arrived, we were greeted by the Kings assistant. He was a great character. They let you roam around the castle and ate able to take unlimited photos and videos. Please be prepared as there is lots of climbing. There is plenty to explore that doesnt require climbing. We got to enjoy the tour with 2 Bus loads of senior citizens and they had a ball! The categories of the castle consist of a torcher chamber, king and queens dinning area, chapel, bell tower, guest rooms, the living area, kitchen, and the area where the King lives(the owener) before they allowed us to roam around they talked about the history of the castle and how it came to be about. Pretty interesting! Once you tour or whenever youd like, there is a very lovely lady serving lunch. They prepared a ham or turkey sandwich with chips, tea or water, cookies and cake. The bread is freshly made in the bakery along with cookies and cake which were delicious by the way!! We had to stop at the bakery to bring some back home! I highly recommend this experience to all. Definitely will be making another trip to Bellvill to take our family.
