I was very pleasantly surprised by Texican Cafe. The outside is relatively unassuming, but the interior has a nice atmosphere to it that feels comfy. Our server wasnt the most friendly, but he was very accommodating and quick. I had the beef fajita compuestos which were surprisingly delicious. Id recommend this location and come here again!

Good Mexican food and decent prices. Texican Cafe has a good kids menu too. They have a full bar with plenty of margaritas and beers to choose from. It can get a little busy on the weekends. So just plan a little for that.

Asked for the Gina s Tacos, and if they could substitute the ground beef for fajita beef. The server said sure but there will be a little upcharge. I said sure because most places upcharge $1-3. The plate serves three tacos and I had ONE taco with the substitution for fajita beef. On top of $16.99 for the taco, they added $8.25 for the one taco substitution. Insane price for such little amount of beef. Misty the manager came over ready for a fight saying that s for 6oz of fajita beef. There were 3 slices of thin fajita beef in that taco. This is by far the biggest rip-off in Austin, there is plenty of better around here that won t rip you off. Congrats on being a massive rip-off Texican Cafe!

Go to spot for quick, good Tex Mex! It s a little run down inside, but most good Tex mex restaurants are. They have a very large menu with good lunch specials at reasonable prices. Chips and salsa are fresh. I enjoy going for a quick lunch a few times a month. Parking: Huge parking lot with plenty of open spots.

Hey guys, I tell a lot of people to try the carne guisada because Ive had it many times there and it had been delicious. Except for tonight. The meat was tough and dry. The quality was what youd expect it to be when it has only simmered for thirty minutes as opposed to stewing for three hours, which would have yielded a higher quality product that is more tender and worthy of the price point. This stuff you served me tonight was well below your standards and should not have been allowed to leave the kitchen. Times before when I have ordered this, the meat was moist, tender, and full of great flavor. But tonight I could not chew this meat, it was THAT tough. The rest of my meal was fine. Everything else was delicious, but the carne guisada ruined the meal completely. Oh I paid full price, but it was not even worth it by any means. I ate the beans, the rice, the tortillas, and the chips and salsa for $15. Absolutely. Not. Worth. It. I hereby apologize to all those Ive misled. I hope you understand that this was not the quality I have raved about and that tonights incident has made me reconsider all other recommendations. Its sad to say, but before I place my next carne guisada order, I will be asking for a sample to ensure that the quality is up to par. I dont want to be paying that price for just beans and rice again. Never. Again.

If you re hungry in Austin for Tex Mex, drive to San Antonio. We drove in from SA for work and after going to a bunch of places that were closed, we stopped in here and the first thing that stuck out to me was how dark it was. Walking through the restaurant it was strange how some spots are warm then cold. The tortillas were cold and chewy. The carne guisada was tough and no amount of salsa, salt and pepper was going to save this meal. I had just the basic crunchy taco because everything else didn t seem fresh.

The absolute worst restaurant in Austin/Cedar Park! Zero stars with 2 would be most appropriate, honestly. As soon as you enter the place, it s cold and dark, the restrooms are disgustingly dirty, very dark and creepy also, my kids were actually afraid when they went in to wash their hands. There was also a waiter that sat at a stall for a few minutes and then left without washing his hands The frozen margaritas, are juiced down with orange juice giving the taste and color, a restaurant taking these many short cuts is definitely abusive to the customer. All the food here is either canned or frozen. You can see, and taste the horrible quality. The chile relleno, is an egg batter coated poblano that is fried a la minute served with a sauce, what we had here was something that was previously fried, and then re heated and then served in a pool of sauce, wow imagine the sogginess . The fries that were served to our kiddos, were all clumped up together, and the restaurant will tell you that it s because in the fryer that tends to happen. Seriously no! The fries, are frozen, they were left out at an inappropriate temperature, so they thawed, they then get placed back in the freezer and refrozen back together, then they get cooked all together. Major health issue when food goes in and out of their needed temperature, I imagine what other foods are not being kept safe. A safety food inspection would be ideal for this restaurant. I, as a professional cook and a mother would not advise for you to bring your family here. Spend that hard earned money elsewhere. Let not even begin on service and staff, this review could be twice as long but let s just leave it at that.

El Pasoan here who has lived in Austin for a while; I ve always seen the Texican Cafe billboards that claim they serve El Paso Style Mexican Food , but it s basically just another standard Tex-Mex place, so if you re from EP/ west Texas don t expect it to satisfy any cravings for EP food like I did. The El Paso Enchiladas are alllllmost there, their dried guajillo red sauce was just too weak, they need to throw in some chile arbol and garlic cloves, maybe a bit of salt. And yellow cheese on the El Paso Enchiladas?? C mon bro, and if a Mexican restaurant in EP served those fake taco shells instead of actually frying their tacos they d be ran out of town. Go to El Perrito for your El Paso-style Mexican food needs, and go to Texican Cafe for some good Tex-Mex.

When the waitress doesn t even come back with your change, then we have a problem . I don t need the 14 extra dollars but when you don t even present you patrons with the change and just assume the rest is yours that s not a good look. I m born and raised here and been coming here for atleast 28 years and this place just keeps on getting worse every year. I don t know what happened to the quality of service in this place, maybe they sunk too much money in their Kyle location but you guys need to retrain some of your staff. Wasnt wanting a big meal so I went in for something that should of been tasty and enjoyable or shareable. First our waiter was great and she came by and made sure we were taken care of. Second, this Nacho plate with shredded chicken was at first time until I got to the bottom of it. The plate looked good on presentation but when I got into it the bottom had all these juices or water from something. Possibly from the canned black beans but the beans were room temperature and half the chips near the middle were soggy. I couldnt finish it because the chips absorbed the juices on the bottom and wasnt appetizing. Ive had food here before which was fine but this was not up to standard of the high ratings. Might come again to see if it was just a mess up but not being to make a Nacho plate makes me question the other food

Our waiter first off was outstanding. He got every detail of our order correct and was attentive and tend to our part perfectly. The food was prepared as we requested and brought out at the perfect temperature for eating. The ingredients tasted fresh, well prepared, and very tasty. We have visited this location twice so far, and each time we were glad we came.

We come in here probably once a month and grab some tacos while we play pool next door, i ordered a Dr Pepper with my tacos but didnt receive it, when i asked where it was America or a waitress with a similar name said i never ordered it, i assured her i did and she said no you didnt. She didnt offer one after missing my order nor try and ask if i wanted to reorder one. Just simply let me leave without a drink. Horrible customer service and it was handled extremely bad on her part.

Come for the salsa, stay for the enchiladas! They have an extensive menu that will suite any tastes and dietary restrictions. I highly recommend the chipotle chicken enchiladas or the green chili enchiladas (not spicy but flavorful). The servers are great and can accommodate any size party. Speaking of parties, they have a banquet area for larger family gatherings.

Overall, it was a great experience here. The atmosphere is chill and the food is good. The drinks are pretty good with a great level of alcohol . I would be back for sure to make sure, and I will actually take pictures of my food next time.

Our server did a great job handling the size of our group. We had about 16 people. He/they waited for everyone to arrive and patienly took our orders correctly by ticket. I feel likes or food came out quickly and correct. He/they was/were very attentive in making sure we were doing okay. My only complaint is there could have been more lighting. It was hard to read the menu in the dim lighting. Kuddos to good service on 7/21/23.
