Perfection! Dietary restrictions: They are very knowledgeable. Let them know, maybe prior to your visit to help accommodate. Parking: It s Austin, TX. Just depends on when. If very busy time of year, or slower summer months.

Dinner at @olamaieaustin came with a few highlights and some low lights: - Heirloom tomato is no doubt the best dish of the night. The whipped butter milk perfectly balances the acidity of the last batch of summer tomatoes. Crispy furikake and poppy seed toppings bring out a burst of flavors and crisp! - Nothing remarkable with the oysters and calas - We found the acclaimed smoke cabbage hard to chew, yet the Chou Chou sauce elevates the entire dish. It reminds me of the flavor of shousibaocai - The rabbit meat is too salty to my taste. The whatever syrup they are using taste like artificial sweetener and kinda ruins the dish - The blackened dayboat fish is red snapper. Mushy, salty and fishy. We ended up enjoying the blue crab porridge more than the fish itself. - Well, the butter honey biscuit is worth the hype. Super crispy on the outside and extremely soft inside. I wouldn t expect less from a restaurant featuring southern food. In short, Olamaie serves okay southern food but it definitely does not live to expectation for a fine dining restaurant with Michelin trained chef. Btw, it s worth noting that they charge $8 per person cake cutting fee if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary here and bringing your own cake. It s not unheard of, but it s usually a fixed fee of $10-15 in my past experience. It s kinda of outrageous if you think about all you paid for is for the servers to take out the cake. They didn t even cut it for us.

Anniversary dinner at Olamaie was spectacular! Service was on point, food and cocktails were delicious. We particularly enjoyed the blue corn hush puppies, day-boat fish and pork chop with succotash. And can t forget the hummingbird cake! Also, they provided a few lovely touches for our special day including a complementary drink. 10/10, would visit again for a fancier occasion.

We had the best time at Olamaie. The host staff was great, but our waiter Matthew B. was tops! Very friendly, but not cheesy over the top and very attentive. We had the chicken presse, rabbit roulade, the biscuit, and cheese grits, all very very good. But the smoked cabbage was the show stealer. If you make it here and dont have it youre doing yourself a disservice.

Intimate bar and open kitchen space, allowing you to feel apart and immersed in the experience. Space does lead to some traffic jams however. Loved the hush puppies, cabbage, biscuits, dayboat fish, and chicken presse. Ratio of dish elements could be improved. Biscuits were smaller, ran out of that delicious sauce with the hush puppies, fish entree had too much rice , vis versa for the chicken - could have used more dumplings. Overall would recommend.

Dinner started off great. I prepaid for the chef tasting and opted for the wine pairing. My server was excellent and things were smooth sailing. Then the super salty rabbit dish happened. So much salt I couldn t eat it and my server noticed. He apologized and took it away. The beverage director Sam Favata soon returned to let me know they tried the the dish I sent back and it was to spec and that they wouldn t remake the dish so we would move on the Wagyu. No point to remake it since salty rabbit is I guess how they like it ? Zero attempt of service recovery or to provide an alternative solution. His delivery was super passive aggressive and unprofessional which made this an issue for me. I sat shocked at what just happened and how I was spoken too. I guess I m the problem? I then decided I did not wish to continue the meal and asked for the check. Sam appeared to then ask me what happened and to remind me he prides himself on service and that he didn t mean to deliver the message that way. This made it worse because he was again passive aggressive and telling me how great he usually is?! I asked to pay for my wine as the 200 I paid in advance with 20 percent tip was now a sunk cost. Sam appears and finally does service recovery and says they waived my wine. Which was fair since I wasn t going to eat 3 of the 6 courses. He then offered me a 100 dollar gift card to come back. I tried to decline as why would I come back? Why would I recommend this place? I left it at the table but took his card to remember his name. This ruined my last night in Austin. Sam really needs to read unreasonable hospitality from Will Guidara and learn how to engage guests. I feel bad for the Olamaie team as Sam ruined your restaurant for a customer and I ve already told all my food writer friends about it. Someone should think about if he is the right person to be the voice of the restaurant. One extra star goes to my server he was great. He saved this from being a 1 star review.

I dined here a couple weeks back, really cool experience. Our waitress was very responsive & gave really good recommendations and a whole run down on the menu. The ambience is very intimate and home-esque. The tables are close together but far enough to enjoy your own privacy. Everything about this establishment I adore. And then you have the best part which is the food. This menu is different, and I love different because nowadays here in Austin, when you go to restaurants, you get the same redundant stuff. But I love their menu selections. I got a smorgasbord of a bunch of different things because I couldn t make up my mind lol. My girlfriend and I started out with the oysters Rockefeller, which is a take on the classic dish and it was amazing. It was decadent. It was rich and it s like butter going down your Throat. We also got the hush puppies, which were a different style of hush puppies. Pretty sure they used blue cornmeal, which Really tied it all together and Set it apart from any other hush puppies that I ve ever had. Then for the main dish, we got the rabbit, which is Unheard of, but it was out of this world if I could put it Into words, I would say you get almost taste to Pork, but it was awesome. There was a Dijon purée on the bottom of the plate, which was not super Dijon heavy it was perfect. It was creamy you get a little bit of acid in there. It was to die for. We also got the American dayboat snapper which was so decadent I loved it. If you are looking for a Non-pretentious style of fine dining. this is the spot. I will be back and I look forward to trying everything else on the menu.

Shared a table for 4 with my gf and another couple. Service was fine, but nothing spectacular. Our drinks were good. Appetizers were beef belly and oysters Rockefeller and both were 4/5. Entrees were day boat fish and rabbit and both were very dry. The other couple didnt even finish their pork chop or hush puppies. $550+ for a meal that was pretty underwhelming. Unfortunate because other reviews imply this place is amazing.

Our family had a wonderful family style dinner tonight. We started with shared appetizers, including Crudo, smoked eggplant that was delicious, blue corn hush puppies, and beef tartare. Everything was yummy. We shared main courses that included gumbo, shrimp and red rice, black and red snapper on North Carolina rice. Our sides were grits and biscuits. The biscuits were fabulous! They came with delicious honey butter. The grits were really interesting, less of a corn taste in a strong cheddar cheese taste with a Creme Brulé like crust on top. The service was wonderful. The setting, eating on many rooms of a large house was wonderful. We had a great time

Over rated. Been to the restaurant 4-5 times over the years. Tonight s experience was subpar and I m being kind. Very very expensive pricing from food to drinks. Tired of hearing the labor card being thrown around when the food quality was at issue not the service. Alcohol is far to expensive across the board especially when one looks at the wine pricing strategy of this restaurant. Food simply was well below what should have come from the egos now in the restaurant.

The service was excellent, attentive and knowledgeable. Unfortunately the food was really hit or miss. Im secretly hoping its because the chef took the long weekend off... The misses first: the blackened fish was served on a delicious crab rice bed, but the fish itself, a Texas Redfish, was overcooked and didnt make up for it in taste. Similar story with the rabbit, which was not in fact what you would call a roulade, but instead the compacted rabbit carnitas, for lack of a better word, were tasty but a bit dry. The grits were excessively salty. Now for the hits: biscuit and sorbet were both amazing. The biscuit reputation is well earned! We also had the tartare as an appetizer and it was very good.

Ok, its really good, especially if youre a foodie. But, the lengthy explanations about each dish are an appetite killer. I mean, a little is ok, but if my primary purpose is to eat a great meal, hearing about each menu item for a really, really long time will not make them taste better. I have to give it to the servers, they have a cultish admiration for the chef & the food. They are very attentive to the place settings and even send each dish to the table with a different server aligned in a precise order according to the dish being served. Even the tables are cleared & reset with reverence. I guess I just like my food served with a little less drama. Its kind of stressful to have to drum up the proper level of appreciation.

We had good french inspired food and the service personnel was nice. The menu mentions an employee wellness fee , but does not mention that it is 20%. So, with tax, employee wellness fee, and tip you pay 53% on top of what you order. A $200 check thus becomes a $306 bill. I would prefer that this is stated more clearly in the menu. Ideally, the restaurant should fold it already into the prices, so that it does not come as a surprise.

Weve enjoyed lots of great restaurants here in Austin! Unfortunately we just found the exception that proves the rule. I assume for such a high end, well-reviewed, and pricey joint, something unusual happened. We waited for over an hour for our dinner at Olamaie. When I finally asked the waiter to just bring us our bill for the drinks wed enjoyed while waiting, they suddenly produced our dishes, all cold. Cold pork chops, cold grits (weirdly crusted, maybe would have been ok warm...), cold fish of the day, etc. All while maintaining the facade of professional concern. Edit: The general manager contacted us, and apologized. He made us whole -- I mentioned this was a pricey joint, right?--and we are very pleased with the customer service. Updating 1 star to 3.

This is the second time Ive been to olamaie and its got to be the most overpriced restaurant in Austin I think the service was phenomenal and the overall atmosphere is great but the food does not live up to its price its overly rich and sometimes way too many ingredients trying way too hard it does have some really great notes but overall I cant highly recommend something thats too expensive and doesnt meet its value Wow I must have not been in a good place mentally when I reviewed last time. I can remember the time I was here it was definitely not in the relationship I am in now, who you are with who sees you, who loves you is everything the person that Im with all the food I get to try is beautiful and wonderful and exceptional Simply because of the person that I get to call my partner and my love. This was our first time together at Olamaie and the food was exceptional oysters Rockefeller, the really delicious hush puppies our cocktails were sensational, the Jefferson rice was shrimp was so good the texture is amazing and of course the biscuits are perfect. We really really loved it and cant wait to come back and enjoy it again thank you to the staff and the kitchen who put together a brilliant dinner for us thank you. Who you are with really does make all the difference in the world, you see the world brighter, more colorful more beautiful. Hope becomes a common feeling instead of despair. thank you my love for loving me and seeing me the way you do youve given me everything I need And so much more with you holding my hand I see the world so much better than I did before. Atmosphere: the restaurant is clean and laid out well. The only issue with the atmosphere is that it s way too loud , the sound travels in this place. The atmosphere is not terrible but also didn t feel upscale with all the noise. Food: for starters we orders crudo, cabbage, beans, broccoli and hush puppies. The crudo and broccoli were okay, the beans were mostly good. puppies seemed burned and hard to eat. Unfortunately everything was too salty for us but it was initially tolerable until the entrees came out. The snapper and pork were overcooked and too salty. The vegan gumbo was hard to judge because we could only taste salt. The biscuits were okay. Service: the waiters were initially very nice but never came by to ask if we liked the food. Eventually we told them that everything was too salty (none could finish our dishes) and the waiter got defensive about it. The best part of the entire experience is that the staff gave us a lot of water which helped with the salt. Our understanding was that this restaurant has a required tip that goes to an employee fund instead of directly to staff, this might be why the staff don t act as nice as usual restaurants. Overall I unfortunately wouldn t recommend this place. Vegetarian options: They have a few vegan and vegetarian items. They won t modify any non-veg items but do have one entree vegans can eat. Dietary restrictions: This restaurant won t make any changes to dishes, they refuse to simple requests such as don t put beef on the salad.

This was our second visit to Olamaie. This time we decided to go with friends who we hadn t seen in a while and wanted to catch up with. Right off the bat, we felt rushed through our dinner. When our server came to us the second time to take our orders and we weren t ready yet, they stayed at our table and offered to help us with it. This might have been a genuine gesture, but looking at how we were asked to vacate our table after 2 hours because the next reservation was arriving, gives off a different vibe. Overall, the service was good, as was the food. However, as guests who are paying a good amount of money for this experience, we expected better treatment. The website and open table did not mention of a two hour limit- at least we couldn t find it. That being said, we understand that restaurants are businesses and a table can have multiple reservations in one night. From a high-end establishment, I d expect a more classy way of asking your guests to get out. Perhaps offer them to continue their conversation at the bar and to have a drink there. It would guarantee them feeling welcome and ensure that they return. I don t think we ll be coming back anytime soon.

We went a couple weekends on the recommendation of a friend for a date night without the kids, and it was fabulous. The service was thoughtful & attentive, and the food was impeccable. Our high bar for biscuits was met, and a highlight for me was the crudo. In Texas, sometimes with really excellent food, the atmosphere can be a bit pretentious. Not the case here- it felt refined but relaxed. The bartender made my partner something off menu with whiskey that he raved about. Really made our night special, since nights without the kids are hard to come by for us. Our whole experience was wonderful, and looking forward to coming back as the menu changes.

Came for NYE for a party of 4. Since there were four first course options, we ordered one each and ate family style. Forget the names of the dishes but here it goes, a beef tartar, a sashimi fish, hush pupoies and braised cabbage. Really liked the dishes and the beef tartar was yummy with the beet crisps. They blend a sauce with it thats yummers. The braised cabbage was really yummy and perhaps my favorite of the four. The mains, we had pork, dayoak (?) fish w crab sauce, duck terrine, and gumbo. Pork dish had thick slices and was so tender but sadly not throughout. Some slices were a tad on the dry side. Fish dish was ok but that crab sauce.....oh my. I can eat this all day. Duck terrine was perhaps the crowd favorite in my party. Chicken sandwiched in duck breast cooked to perfection. Its like magic. The gumbo was ok. Oh, how can I forget to talk about their biscuits. Wow. Tender soft like bread in the center and flakyish that makes a biscuit a biscuit. That honey butter was perfect even if it wasnt sweet. Best biscuits I have ever had to date. Great job. If there was any feedback for the restaurant I could give would be that attention to comfort could be better. For instance, we shared our food family style which made the table quite crowded. At times, we had an empty plate and the servers just let it sit there so when mains came, I placed an empty plate after we had split the portions to the side of the table and it was never picked up even as the server came to severe other things. It made me think whether this was intentional? I asked the server to have it removed. It wasnt an issue and Im only writing to offer feedback. The table next to us spilled their water and I was surprised to see that none of the servers had tended to it. Perhaps no one saw it? The four guests at that table all worked to get their table dried for what appeared to be a good 5-10 minutes. My back was to the staff so I cant tell if anyone was able to witness what happened to react accordingly.

Beautgreat staff , appetizers were really th nice but really fell down on the mains , I had a ribeye not cooked medium rare but not whining , but it was extremely grisly , ate about half of it because it was to tough to cut with a steak knife , apparently a on going problem because I saw one star reviews with the same complaint going back months . Duck was also a bit stringy but was told the flavor was good . The staff knew there was an issue and discounted the bill by 32.00 Making it 535.00 for 4 . I still left the staff a 150.00 tip because they did a good job but really $$$$$ For the quality of food . I will give it another shot but will not order a main but stick to starters and drinks

Food was acceptable, but the room was VERY noisy and actually we could not chat. There was a table with 6 screaming guys who apparently were friends of the owner who did not anything to stop them. Water was falling down from the ceiling on our table, and we had to change it. The service has been very very slow. The tip was already included in the bill so we could not complain. Overall a very bad experience.

This is one of only a handful of top rated restaurants in Austin and the surrounding areas that didnt disappoint me in some way. Everything we ate was fantastic and the staff was wonderful. They recommended sharing different meals, and I would recommend the same. Some of the food is really rich in a good way, but eating the entire thing might be too much, share, and enjoy something special together. If you go by yourself, Id recommend getting food that would be considered lighter on the palate.

Hit and Miss experience, and it is really unfortunate. I want to start by saying the wait staff was incredibly knowledgeable about the food and meals. 10/10 for wait staff. Attended birthday dinner for six with reservations at 745. Table was not ready until 815...previous party ran long. Um...thats your problem not mine. Ordered drinks while we waited the extra 30 minutes. Took maybe 15 min to come out. Asked for a Pisco sour after confirming they knew how to make it: they did not. There was no egg white, no real pisco or bitters. Get the out of here with that nonsense. Food: the good were biscuits, red fish, vegan Gumbo (I know, crazy), beef tartar, tomato, and pork, and cheesy grits. The not good: crudo fish was not delicate or thinly sliced. The blue corn hush puppies came out to our table almost black. I joked that if it was yellow corn Id be nervous. Well they were still completely overcooked and burned. White bean appetizer was absolutely flavorless and boring. The reason Im rating them a one is from the absolutely clueless and disconnected management. You make 6 people (3 couples) wait an extra 30 minutes for their reservation, which cost the table $30-40 in baby sitter fees, and you comp us a $14 carrot cake on a $630 check?! Are you for real?

Really a wonderful dining experience. We were brought to this location as the guest to a company that had brought us into town for a meeting. Fresh takes on farm to table ideas, with really great flavor pairings. Wonderful craft made cocktails and the service staff was really impressive. Some of the atmosphere was added, most likely due to the company in which we were adjoined since it seemed they would frequent this place which we were able to benefit greatly. I look forward very much to going back when Im in Austin the next time. Vegetarian options: Highly recommend the smoked eggplant options. The flavors are very complex and it was hard to tell to believe that it was truly a vegetarian dish.

In this 61 years, there have been a few dining experiences that shift the paradigm of a food family. I grew up in the south and love southern cooking and have been to many places that claim to be upscale type of southern cuisine. Olamaie was a game changer. We did not even take pictures because we did not want to trivialize the experience. We started with an an heirloom tomato version of a caprasi salad with a whipped version of mozzarella with a blend of olive oil and balsamic that had a hint of a kick with crispy crumbles of their biscuits, which are special. The service was on point through the evening. Great suggestions for pairings. The butter poached shrimp were the best ever and I have lived on or near the gulf most of my life. Perhaps the blue corn hush puppies with carnalized onion dip with salmon caviar are the best thing in the world, especially dipped in the caprasi dressing. As a celebration of my birthday, they brought an ice cream sandwich with a pecan lace cookie as the top and bottom layers. We go to Austin frequently, this is now the top of the list.

Disappointing. A mistake. We love eating outside in Austin. We had to try this place. We made a reservation three weeks in advance. Wow, it had so many good reviews. Disappointing. Let s start with the good. The place is really nice, cozy. Good ambience, not noisy. Nice enjoyable art on the walls (few restaurants do that!). Service was very good. Parking was easy. Now let s move to the food. The hushpuppies were burned, flavorless and dry. Have the ones at Long John s Silver instead. As main entrée I ordered the duck and my wife ordered the lamb. The duck was too salty and with little flavor. The lamb was ok. The lamb and the side muffin would be the only things I d recommend if you have to go to this restaurant. We finished our food and prefer not to try the desserts. Let me mention the wine. We ordered a bottle of Nicolaus Reau 2018. They brought a year 2021 instead, without mentioning it. That was deceiving, we got no apology. Anyways. About pricing. The problem with Olamaie is not price. The problem is that there s a gap between their food quality and their prices. In summary, the place and the personnel are very good, but the owner should just be fair to their staff and transfer the place to someone who can do a better job at the kitchen.

I would give this place one Michelin star if I could. What a joy of tastes. I highly recommend basically everything. But to help, I had three dishes. The butter beans balanced the density of the beans with the creaminess of the butter. The result is an elevated take on Southern butter beans that I could have eaten all day. The sourdough was presented as a cracker much like how I would sometimes use a saltine on a bean soup. With the lighter crunch I get the right slight texture change to go with the butter beans. The tiny Tabasco bottle was an excellent touch. Normally I see hot sauce and douse the bean dish in it. By going small, the chef forces me to first and often eat the beans on their own. This I end up learning: good bean dishes you want to dash hot sauce on the spoon, not in the bowl. Excellent. The red rice and gulf shrimp had excellent shrimp but the star to me is the sofrito. I want to learn how to make sofrito as a result of this dish as it made red rice the absolute star. Tangy, salty, garlicky, peppery, herby, my goodness. What a way to take red rice, usually the Robin to shrimp, to the level of Batman. The third dish is the best lamb dish in Austin. The curried lamb terrine is tremendous. Like I had to finish even though I was full tremendous. The jerk came through in exactly the right amount: strong but not burning, spicy but not dominant, tasty but not deadening. As a result I could taste the lamb too and oh wow. Lamb neck confit is so tender and flavorful. Working that with curry meant the curry tasted better (b/c oil) and the meat tasted better (meaty but not gamey). To top it off with peppers and beans instead of a starch meant your pause bites were a healthy dose of texture change. The best dish I had and far and away the best lamb in Austin. We came here after a conference and Olamaie is on a non-descript street in a gap between campus and downtown. I knew it was a restaurant because it was the only place up and down that had valet. Walking up the ramp to Olamaie is a physical transport to a wonderful place. The service was so attentive and the atmosphere so pretty. Like I said at the top, Amanda Turner and this crew deserve a Michelin star for being this good Kid-friendliness: Kids seem welcome but I didnt see any. I think kids would be bored. Wheelchair accessibility: Theres a ramp and the space itself is large.

Let me tell you about the meat rollercoaster Gulf Crudo - aka ham sushi, aka squash perfection, aka the tyrant of tuna. This was a remarkable balance of acid, fat, salt, and squash. I can t speak highly enough of how much the bite was delightful. Steak tartare - I have been asleep at the wheel on Texas wagyu - more on this later. The sous vide egg yolk is how yolks should be. If you ve never had yolk jam, you ve got time (and you can have it here). THE PORK CHOP - Best. Ever. Full. Stop. I mentioned acid, fat, salt earlier. I aspire to make pork like this: I want to show everyone I know what a good chop can be. This is the model. Wagyu Ribeye - I ve had probably every kind of wagyu (snow beef excluded), and not only did the chef EXECUTE (my plate wasn t hot, it was perfect) but the cut of beef was magnificent. Look at my reviews- I might as well be James Beard re-incarnated, this steak was out of this world. Lastly : I m not a biscuit person. But. Wow. I think I know what you did, but it doesn t matter, it s this biscuit that is making me re-evaluate my stance on fluffy yet crusty bois. To end the meal : we are dessert people. I couldn t. I wanted to; and it sure I ll regret it, but wow. Kudos chef, can t wait to read more about you.
