Great place but when I talk to any local who knew professor Unlauf. He was a terrible, rude, and unwelcoming man who would just look straight through you, act like you didn t exist or scold you. I have heard many stories and makes it hard for me to enjoy the sculptures made by someone like that. Energy there is definitely not as welcoming and magical as the Botanical Gardens

This is an outside museum. Ticket purchase is inside with a small exhibit, but with 2 chairs, customers are encouraged not to linger inside. I would not recommend going here when it is hot outside or when there is any kind of unwelcome weather. There is no water, few places to sit. The outdoor museum area is small. For all of the money the city puts into the museum, it was really just sort of a less than average experience.

I love Umlauf Sculpture Garden because they always have fun and different events throughout the year. I cant say Im a huge fan of a lot of their sculptures, but the place is really beautiful and a lovely way to spend an afternoon. Definitely stop by if they have an event going on! They did something fun for the Chinese New Year.

As a general rule I dont leave reviews. IlI only give reviews to those that merit it. The Unpaid Sculpture Garden & Museum does merit it. I am recently disabled and they went out of their way to help me get to my car when I had overestimated my stamina and was unable to make it to my car. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Highly recommend.

The natural forest like setting for these sculptures made for a quiet, relaxing stroll through some extraordinary art pieces. I was disturbed a bit by proportions and eye treatments, but the overall exhibit is a must. Many pieces will stay with you long after the visit as the emotion within each sculpture are easily conveyed... sad and joyful.

Visited on a family day with free admission and was surprised by how much this little garden offers! I always pass by the garden and peek from outside, but there are more sculptures hidden among plants and trees to be discovered in the garden!!! It just made me feel zen and relaxing by sitting down on a bench listening to the wind and water! The paths, plants, and ponds are so well planned. They have many activities today, like chess, arts and crafts, story time, and pottery. The staffs are super friendly too! Will definitely come back visit again.

A beautiful place to pass some time and relax. Old trees provide ample shade next to cool running streams running into cute leafy ponds, and there are ample benches all along the walkway. Theres even a little waterfall with stone benches overlooking it. And other than the sound of running water, its so, so quiet. Id honestly pay $7 admission for a park of this quality. The statues arent bad, and come included with the admission fee.

This was a very nice break from the bustle of the city without having to go far. Be aware, its $7/adult. You could easily walk through without rushing in 90 minutes. They say there are hundreds of statues on display, but I think thats a bit of an exaggeration. We came in the middle of the day. I think it would be nice to come later in the afternoon, maybe even just before sunset to catch the best of day and evening lighting.

Located in Zilker Park this sculpture garden was a great place to wander around and see some amazing works of art. The artist lived and worked right here on the property and you can tell why he chose to live here. The surrounding park offers plenty to do and the sculpture garden is a great escape from the city. The museum has a changing display of art that allows you to see an artist s work that you may not have ever been introduced to otherwise. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. This is a modest little sculpture garden featuring 60+ bronzes and stone figures dating from 1930s to the late 1970s. Since all the pieces were done by the same artist, it is also an interesting demonstration of Umlaufs development as a sculptor.

The Umlauf was the first wedding vendor my now-husband and I booked for our 80-person November 2023 wedding, and our day was as gorgeous as we knew it would be with such a venue. Although we were worried about rain on the day-of, it ended up just being a gorgeous light overcast that made all the greens and golds of the trees so lush and beautiful which in turn gave us the most beautiful wedding photos. We hosted both our ceremony and reception in the space, and the gardens are so versatile that it never felt crowded, only fun and intimate. We absolutely loved the flexibility of this venue and being able to bring in our own team of selected vendors (with approval) to make our day as tailored to our wants as possible. The team at the Umlauf were always so quick to answer questions and provide information as we planned, and you can tell how much the staff loves sharing the beauty of the space with people. We worked with 2 different venue managers during our planning process, but the transition was seamless and never caused us any issues. We did book 2 tents for the wedding because the rain chances were so all-over-the-place, so that is one aspect you have to consider when planning an outdoor wedding. Another thing to remember is that they are a museum, so if your wedding is on a day they re open, you won t have access to the venue until 4 pm. We got married on Monday (their Closed day) and were able to pay for a couple of extra hours to get in early, which did help with the time crunch. I would highly recommend the Umlauf as a wedding venue for brides wanting a garden-themed, art-filled wedding. Photographer: @stephanierogersphotography (Stephanie Rogers Photography)

My family and I were visiting from Houston and stumbled on this interesting looking garden. I was waved into the building by a young Indian lady at the front desk only to feel a cold, sort of, welcome. She was one of the snootiest people I have ever encountered. It took everything in me to not laugh at her pretentiousness. Looking at someone s kids as if they re parasites is not a good look. She was too busy worried about what my kids were doing than explaining what was offered. She spoke with this voice and tone that was unnatural and just plain annoying. Due to that unfortunate encounter, we were indefinitely uninterested.

We had the pleasure of working with Umlauf Sculpture Garden as a wedding vendor, and it was an absolute delight. From the lush greenery to the stunning sculptures, this venue was the perfect backdrop for a beautiful and memorable wedding. One thing that stood out to us was how nice and flexible the staff was. They were incredibly accommodating when it came to the vendors we wanted to work with, and they were always willing to go the extra mile to make sure that everything was perfect for the bride and groom. Its clear that they truly care about their clients and want to make their big day as special as possible. We also had the pleasure of working with Amanda, who was an absolute joy to work with. She was patient, helpful, and always available to answer any questions or concerns we had. Her attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond really made a difference in the planning process, and it was clear that she was invested in making the wedding a success. Overall, we would highly recommend Umlauf Sculpture Garden as a wedding venue. The beauty of the location, the flexibility of the staff, it all contributed to an incredible experience. After touring numerous venues in Austin, its clear that Umlauf Sculpture Garden is a gem, and I look forward to working with them again in the future.

While I didnt get a chance to check out the gardens, the staff were excellent. One of the servers recited a poem to us and another stopped to chat for a bit. You could tell they loved working there. Oh and the catering was delicious!

Beautiful well kept grounds. Very peaceful. I need to get the family and go back for the full experience.

Lovely little hidden gem in the shadow of downtown Austin! I had no idea it existed, nor the story behind the man behind the place. Excellent for meditation, reading, relaxing, escaping the chaos for a bit. The curator and docents are all kind, knowledgeable and wow approachable. Ill be back, frequently!
