Nixta Taqueria offers a welcoming atmosphere that immediately drew me in. The thoughtfully designed decor enhances the setting, contributing to a bonny and enjoyable backdrop. I appreciated small touches like the inclusion of dog water bowls. The food was exceptional fresh, light, and full of flavor, providing a refreshing take on traditional Mexican cuisine. The duck carnitas were juicy and flavorful, while the enchilada potosina tacos were creamy and comforting. However, the carrot tostada had an overpowering amount of ricotta cheese that disrupted the balance of flavors. The Sholeh Zard was well-executed with a pleasant sweetness, though best shared due to its richness. The standout dish for me was the squash flautas, which were delicately prepared. I also respected the attentive service and their commitment to sourcing produce directly from their garden, adding a noticeable level of brightness to each dish. The public fridge was a unique and commendable feature. Overall, Nixta Taqueria stands out for its high-quality food and distinct atmosphere.

This place had an excellent vibe, friendly staff and a great ambiance! I overall had a good time here with my friend, but the food fell so short. The line was pretty long to order too, but I appreciated the sign they had posted explaining why they choose to have their set up like that. The food wasnt good for me, and very expensive. I ordered a quesadilla that was more like a tiny taco and costed $9. $15 glass of wine, etc. for the total bill of almost $70 between the two of us, I didnt leave full at all. The value was lacking..a lot. Solely because of that I probably wouldnt return here.

My wife and I had the pleasure of experiencing the masa omakase at Nixta, and it was nothing short of amazing! As Mexicans who grew up with these traditional dishes, it s hard to imagine how much they could be elevated, but Chef Rico and his team have redefined Mexican fine dining. Everything was fresh and flavorful, blending familiar tastes with creative twists. Each dish felt like a warm hug from abuelita you could taste the love and care that went into every bite. We ll definitely be back when the menu changes, and we ll be regulars at the taqueria side as well. Thank you for bringing this delightful gem to Austin!

Please give people in line menus to look at. Otherwise, they spend several extra MINUTES at the counter working out what sounds good to eat while you wait your turn outside and bake in the sun. That said, the tacos are delicious and I ll continue to come back even though they want to slow cook me out jn the Texas heat.

Honestly beautiful place. The tacos were cold. The menu is limited and catering to a demographic that honestly doesn t eat tacos regularly. We went in expecting beautiful tortillas and they were only pretty look at, no flavor and cold. Not a fan. For me, my husband, and our daughter it was $97. We will not be going back. The taco is the people s food, but what people can afford to eat like this?

Max absolutely enhanced the experience of dining here. The food was phenomenal and embodied the idea of elevating normal Mexican dishes into food that is rich in unique flavor. Max was knowledgeable about the culture, the food itself, as well as his boss s cooking techniques and even history. As he explained all this to us, his passion for the restaurant emanated off of him. He even gave us a horchata to go on the house saying the owners would love to know we are doing this for people . I highly recommend it here.

Everything here was top tier. Duck tacos and tuna tostada are the highlights. Their beans are super good. Prickly pear drink was refreshing, but not very boozy. Can t wait to come here again. Kid-friendliness: Kids can play around the back/outside eating area. They play music that is explicit

Where do I start? We arrived at 11am on a Sunday, there was only one person in front of us in line, but they did have a section for queuing outside which indicates they can get busy. The food selection is somewhat limited, but everything we ordered was delicious. The migas taco is one of the best in Austin. The duck carnitas was so ducking good! The peach salad is a sleeper, cold, salty, seeet, spicy, what a mix! Staff was super nice and courteous. They have plenty of outdoor seating, more than indoor seating I d say. Outdoor seating has plenty of fans making the 90 degree heat feel bearable.

4.25/5 stars for their omakase. My husband and I like fine dining, I always skipped on Nixta since it gave me too much casual vibes but eventually decided to give them a try, and we are so glad that we did. Their Omakase is very good, everything was consistent. I added the wine pairing and I never realized wine pairings come with refills the second wine was supposed to be for 3 courses and they refilled my glass so many times through those courses. I didn t care for the couple of items we added from their regular menu. Radish: very flavorful, had a kick. The pickled corn aioli was delicious Hamachi crudo: very good, very spicy. But not unique enough. Heirloom Frijoles: who knew beans could be this good?! Different textures and depth. I am not a beans person but this was amazing Sope de Calabasa: very good. It had fresh thyme (za atar), it was so fresh and herby Smoked lamb: it was very good, loved the crunch. It had so many ingredients but not all of them shined Tuna tostada (add-on): it was ok, but a hair salty and the tostada tasted stale. Duck carnitas (add-on): the duck was super moist, too much fat, but delicious. Jardin Nicuatole: AMAZING!!!

Heard about this place being ranked among the top taco spots in town. At first we were kinda surprised that the prices were a bit more than the average taco, but then they came out and wowwwww. These are high end tacos and absolutely delicious. Had the breakfast taco, duck, beet tartare and tuna tostada. All were delicious, but duck took the cake for the best. Also the peach salad was a surprise highlight. Big kudos to Nixta, will def be back.

Wow, delicious food and great service! The duck carnitas taco was our favorite. All staff were super friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed sitting next to their garden while we ate. One complaint would be the music aggressive rap at a high volume doesn t match the vibe of a peaceful Saturday evening meal to be savored. Second complaint would be pricing. Portions are small and expensive. Salsas complimentary at most taco trucks and even restaurants in central TX cost $1.50 at Nixta. That being said, the food here is certainly prepared with much more attention to detail than your typical taco truck/restaurant. Additionally, the sourcing of ingredients is specialized. We really enjoyed our visit but the cost will prohibit us from returning frequently. Perhaps just once in a while for a single duck carnitas taco each ;)

It had just rained cats and dogs but it didn t stop all the pocketful of sunshine this place brought out in my heart. Great food, bountiful garden, and lovely service. Everything I ordered left such a deep impression on me. The horchata is sweet without being saccharine and the blackberry agua fresca is cold and perfect for hot days. Ordered: - Duck Carnitas Taco > Lovely duck confit with all the meatiness with crisp watermelon pickles inside a warm blanket of taco. Heaven. - Carrot Tostada > The crispy tostada is layered with sweet, dreamy carrots and a comforting herb ricotta. The puffed amaranth was a lovely grace note of texture. - Peach Salad > This is more like some kind of luscious pickle than an original salad. The sweet peaches taste like it sparkle inside a spicy juice that hits you with a punch. Do have it on the place because it will allow you to take a lovely stroll on their lush backyard replete with food crops and flowers. Zen like toilet also was interesting. I was mesmerised by the vibing lights. Will go back 100% Vegetarian options: Carrot Tostada

No liquor, and the taco I had was probably a stretch for me. My wife liked her taco. Again, my reading the menu could have solved this for me. In all, it s an interesting place with different foods to try, albeit on the expensive end.

Food - some dishes live up to the claim of innovative and different, some seem pretty standard. Overall I give this a 4 out of 5. I loved the seasonal carrot tostada but it felt kinda on the pricier end, and the duck carnitas taco felt substantial and well worth the price. Meanwhile the tuna tostada felt like poke nachos Id had elsewhere for cheaper. The agua fresca was $7 and way overpriced for what it was but I have to give lots of credit to the staff who immediately comped me when I left feedback on this. Service - staff who took our order forgot to give my my agua fresca and I had to go back and remind her. As a result, it felt haphazardly made and was just not good. In her defense, it was close to closing time so maybe she was just tired. However, as mentioned above, I left feedback and they were happy to comp the drink. Staff who brought out dishes were very nice and helpful in explaining what was what. Retrospectively have to give service a 5/5 because of how willing they were to make things right. Ambiance - its an outdoor area so not much to speak about here. Theres fans but that didnt help with all the flies. Id give this a 3/5 but you can also just do takeout if youre worried about bugs or being too hot in the summer. Parking: Small parking lot but easy to find!

We dined here prior to their closing, and it was an amazing experience. Recently. . .unfortunately it was just not the same. Their prices have gone way up, and I understand that times are tough for all. However, when I ordered an $8 bean and cheese taco at the counter, waited 30+ minutes to receive it, had to ask 3 different servers about the status without any updates, while camping out on a picnic table in a patio area infested with flies - I have to raise a few flags. This has become a destination spot for foodie travelers seeking good tacos, but my recommendation is - dont make this your stop. De Nada is not far from here, and youll find amazing tacos there, with friendly and prompt service with legit seating/atmosphere. Or, stop at any taco truck on the east side for a better experience. A $65 lunch with much left to be desired on all fronts is incredibly frustrating. Hard pass.

Stopped by here for a Saturday lunch while visiting Austin. It was shortly after opening, so wasnt crowded yet, but quickly filled up during lunch. You order your food inside, grab any table outside, then theyll bring your food to the table. So many good, unique options, especially with the tacos and tostadas. Ordered chips and the salsa flight as well as a few tostadas. The Duck Carnitas tostada and Beet Tartare were very good, but my surprise hit and recommendation would be the Carrot Tostada. I would come back just for the Carrot Tostada. Very unique and flavorful. Nice outside, covered seating area with also a few tables outside the covered area. Water is self-service, but staff is constantly walking around if you need anything.

A decent taco place with unusual dishes, Nixta didnt live up to the hype. I ordered the special, pork taco with egg as well as the tuna tostada. First the good: the tuna was high quality, the presentation beautiful, and the taste was complex and delicious. But the special was not nearly as good. The pork was very fatty, and the meat that was there was rather tough. Flavor was eh... Not very interesting. Best thing about it was the egg... Cooked perfectly Sunnyside up with firm whites and runny yolk. The atmosphere was typical Austin. Outdoor seating on picnic tables. Not very impressive. The service was mediocre. The line took 30 minutes to get our order in, which was unacceptable given the limited menu... Online ordering would have been far faster with the inperson dedicated to alcohol purchases. As for speed, it was really haphazard. Out of our table (all the same order), one order came out immediately followed 25 minutes later by the last dish (which was one person who had to wait on all of us to finish before they could begin!). Overall, unimpressed given the awards and the price which isnt justified in my opinion.

The fennel salad is very good, as well as the mushroom empanada, however, one would wonder if $15 for a mid size empanada makes sense! We feel caught off guard by the pricetag given how casual the place is, customers very much self serve, we got our own water and waited in line for a long time cause there s only one cashier, honestly would have been happy ordering from the iPad if we could skip the wait and the heavy suggested tip.

Honestly, every single item we ordered was delicious and felt like it was made with fresh ingredients and love. We also got to chat with the couple who owns the place. They were so kind and welcoming. Thanks for a great experience, friends!

You order at a kiosk by the entry and seat yourselves at any of the large picnic tables - some tables are under a tent/canopy while most are just in the open next to a little vegetable garden. Food: the chips and dip/ avocado créma were OK. But the tacos/tostadas were amazing! I wish I had paid attention to the tortilla when ordering and will ask for soft tortilla instead of the hard/shell ones next time. The beet taco was incredibly fresh with light and creamy avocado créma and the lime zest on top was . The carrot taco was delicious - tender, caramelized carrot ribbons with tasty chili oil and dill leaves (it was super oily but not greasy, has the potential to be super messy). Menu: vast menu with lots of veggie choices, many meat options (no chicken though). Service: polite and adequately timely, they were super nice to store a birthday cake we had brought with us in their fridge and even brought it out with a lit candle plus plates. Seating: there was only outdoor seating when we visited last week, so it was all dog friendly! There are no heaters so can feel quite chilly on a cold night.

You park on the street and eat in a tent. The floor is filled with wood chips and some spots are wet and muddy. Then the food. They are interesting flavors but very, very greasy. They are very expensive for the small portions of each plate. Not much service because most is self serviced. But we tipped20% ahead when ordering.

To say this place is a dream would be an understatement. Not only are the tacos made with so much love and care, but they are also unique, thought out, and executed with an amount of detail I wish I could absorb through consumption so I could remember where I put anything or what my plans are for the weekend. On top of all that they had to go and be the loveliest, most generous people as well! They have changed my taco life and the community around them for the better. Please do yourself a favor and go here. You ll somehow leave lighter despite being so full of their delicious creations. Thank you Nixta!

The duck carnitas and golden beet salad are the standout dishes. Wash that down with some spicy tropical tepache refreshing! If you sit outside, you can look at the cute vegetable garden while enjoying the food. The carnitas are extremely oily from the confit duck, but the oil s flavorful and doesn t come across as greasy. Make sure to eat it over the plate as it ll drip oil with each bite. The golden beet salad presented an unfamiliar flavor combination that worked well. In contrast, the tuna tostada felt overbearing and one-dimensional: too much salt, too much lime, and the sum of avocado and aioli felt too heavy. It was a letdown after the exceptional carnitas. Similarly, the beet tostada was nice but paled in comparison to the golden beet salad.

Food: Food was okay, but nothing I would come back for. The bean and cheese taco and the quesadilla were really bland but some others like the cauliflower, enchilada potosina, and duck carnitas tacos were nice. Service: There were exactly 30 ppl there on this particular Sunday. 10 of them had their food already. Somehow, it took 40 mins to get our food! 40 mins for tacos. Adding in that the staff is pompous and unwelcoming. Id skip this place. Too many good spots in Austin.

The service was very disappointing and the taco omakase was not bad but definitely not worth the price. About the service, we had the drink pairing (both wine and non-alcoholic) but they were busy and forgot to give out the final drinks until after we started on dessert which is a complete waste since the drink pairing is supposed to pair with food. My partner also mentioned to the server the food was too salty for her but they didnt acknowledge or try to do anything about that which was a downer but I understand that maybe they cant take individual requests. On the food, I liked most of the dishes, except the dessert which was a bit bland. I would not recommend either the wine or non-alcoholic pairing, the drinks dont go well with the food and you cant count on the service to serve them at the right time.

First time here. $5 for a quesadilla. That is literally just a cheese taco. The cheese isn t melted enough to be considered a quesadilla. Just call it a cheese taco. No sides I asked if there was plates (like 2 tacos rice and beans) the dude at the counter was really nice. He was really informative. pointed at a side that s apparently $12? I was told they don t have chicken or beef. I love duck but I haven t been feeling good, so I m not gonna eat something out of my normal diet. Chorizo, avocado and I forgot what the other option is. :( He tried to sell me on a tuna or cauliflower taco (I forgot I was in Austin when I came to order lol my bad) they hand you a fork for your tacos which for so many reasons is weird. It s so weird. The service is good. I declined a light at my table because I have a headache. Another server came up with one and I declined again. He left it at the table. Which is fine he s just doing his job. (In hindsight, I wish they never gave me the light. I took the pictures of the tacos using my camera flash) When I sent the pictures to my boyfriend, he was absolutely disgusted. I m kind of glad I ate in the dark because these tacos do not look good. The beans definitely have flavor for six dollars. I wish they gave me a bigger portion of beans at least. I can t say the same for the cheese or the tortilla. For the prices, you would think there would be more than picnic tables and plastic everywhere. The freshly made tortillas taste like cardboard I am currently housesitting. And after walking to two food trucks that no longer exist. I was really hoping that third time would be the charm Honestly, I think it s the customer service that saves this place

Me and my family were extremely disappointed in the Omakase experience. We paid over 600 dollars for this meal with wine pairing, in the hopes of being blown away. This is the most expensive meal we ve ever paid for and we had high expectations. We had 3 small Tacos, (exploding with flavor, far too much to call it a experience) and 3 small glasses of wine. The bottles of wine were $7 - $13 dollars retail. The atmosphere is also a plastic tent with picnic tables - nothing special. I would absolutely not recommend this meal to anyone, it s not close to the value advertised.

Overall, for us, this was a 3 star place. The food was pretty good, the taco was amazing and the tuna tostada was pretty outstanding. However, the price point of $55 was pretty high for chips n salsa,a small salsa flight, two tacos, and two bottle beverages. The waiting was pretty egregious. There were three groups of two people ahead of us in line, but took over 25 minutes to get to the register to order. Additionally, we waited 30 mins for our food and it all arrived at different times, with a good wait between when my taco arrived and when the tostada arrived. We loved the food, but wondered if the demerits dont impact the experience.

Now, you order drinks in one the main patio, but to order food you have to walk between houses to a food truck, make the line and order. We went for Sunday lunch in the middle of summer so there was no wait. We ordered quickly and got our food fast. The melon summer sald was the first to arrive and I was blow away by the fresh and tangy combination of watermelon, cucumber and the umami sauce. A must try. For tacos I got the duck carnitas which was savory and well cooked. It couldve used some extra toppings but was packed with meat, tasty, and different. Well worth the $10. The tuna tostata was a the surprise star of the show. The tuna was fresh and the Chipotle mayo balanced the lightness of the fish. We also got the veg quesadilla which wasnt much of a quesadilla at all. More like one tortilla folded with a cheese inside. The cauliflower taco was well spiced but for the size, not worth the money. Overall: get the melon salad, tuna tostads

There are several vegetarian options, but they also offer meat and fish dishes. The charred carrot tostadas with a cashew cream base were to die for. I got robbed here. 2 tacos for $25 I mean, they were good, but were they $12-13/taco good? No. I m starting to think these hot Austin restaurants are gaming the system by getting media exposures to gain more customers, but what good could it be for them to never come back? It s not just about the price. People pay more money for both the food and the experience. How is this place charging upscale restaurant prices for dusty backyard dining with park benches and kiddy chairs while flies and mosquitoes regularly land on customers food? It s not even in a hot part of town where rent is expensive either. It s wayyyy out there. The migas wasn t even good. Go to Pueblo Viejo. Much much better tacos for very reasonable prices.
