The food is absolutely incredible - the Longhorn cocktail is delicious. The fettine trio, if you like game meat, is phenomenal. The hamachi tostadas, blue corn lobster hush puppies, deviled blue crabs, and wild boar ribs were all amazing, as was the kale elite salad. My entree- the blackened reddish - was possibly the best fish Ive had in a long time. Tried a bite of the roasted garlic beef tenderloin and the divers scallops and they were great. Finished off with the ancho Chile chocolate cake and a smoke signal cocktail - also really good.

Ive been here a couple of times as an Austin native, and I love to bring visitors to our city and people who havent experienced wild game here to get a combination of warm Southern hospitality, impeccable service, on par decor and ambiance, and a beautiful first taste of wild game or a perfect steak. Personally, I always can find something that I love even though heavier meats are not usually my thing. The Elk sliders are incredible - we ordered four in one sitting for two people and almost ordered six like lunatics, but the main courses looked too amazing. Fries are without exception incredible and a very generous serving. The Elk Loin is exceptional and one of their trademark dishes with these incredible crispy and savory fans of wild (?) mushrooms in between each slice. Their signature garlic stuffed beef tenderloin is always perfectly cooked. Redfish - delicious. Rabbit pasta was very rich and savory. The chili is SO good and absolutely warms your soul but it is a little spicy if youre like me and order everything mild usually. I should also say Ive gone a bunch of times, and this was not all ordered in one sitting. What really sets it apart is the service and warm, personal feel even though it is a high end, polished restaurant. It looks like that, but I instantly feel comfortable here if that makes sense. The general manager Matt is more likely than not going to stop by your table and personally ask you how you enjoyed your experience and start a conversation, because it matters that much to them. He is the warm, personal touch that got me to write this review in the first place and made our night that much more special today. :) Thank you for everything! Parking: Valet is $15 with additional tip. Parking garages are like $10 around it and street parking if youre lucky.

Fantastic service, perfectly cooked steak, consistent performance. I visited LD several years ago and was excited to go back last night. I wanted a steak and a spot at the bar to celebrate an occasion. They delivered. Bartender was lovely and charismatic. For food, I d had a mix of their offerings before, they re great, but I wanted simple this time. Steak, bread, Mac, dessert. I ll be back, thank you LD for the great experience.

As a Larry McMurtry fan, the name lured me in. The food and service kept me. With delicious food and drink delivered by attentive and friendly staff, visiting the Lonesome Dove Bistro has been an absolute highlight of my trip to Austin. From classics such as peach cobbler and ribs to rattlesnake and rabbit sausage, the food has been consistently delicious and really makes the most of its interesting local ingredients. Should you wish to see some interesting local sights, friendly and knowledgeable staff such as Sam go above and beyond to offer recommendations, something which has really come in handy for a solo traveller on a first visit to the Texas capital. Ive felt consistently welcome (and exceptionally well-fed) during each of my visits. What more could you want from Texan hospitality? Admire the views of 6th Street, grab a Pineapple Xpress daquiri and wash down anything you like from the menu with it - it will all be exceptional!

Ordered the elk as 1st course. Amazing. Savory yet somehow sweet. The kale salad as 2nd course. Perfect amount of dressing, beets and candied pecans. All together exactly what I was hoping for flavor wise. Bread was delivered and it was delicious as well. Maybe wouldve been better if the cornbread was warm? Ordered the red snapper and montana bison for the main course. Both were phenomenal. Perfect tenderness and exploading with flavor. Nothing was dull. Everything was dynamic and exceeded expectations. The bread pudding was warm, sweet, and delightful. Portions are perfect. No need to order sides because you get exactly enough food. What a great experience. 10/10 recommend.

Wow. Just wow. The service for our group of 30 was impeccable. Top notch. Our wine and waters were always full and the courses came out at the perfect intervals. The soft lighting gave the whole space a warm feeling despite it being cold and rainy outside. I just watched season 1 of true detective so the deer antlers above the bar gave me the creeps, but I m not deducting stars bc that s my own personal problem. We had a set menu for our group made up of a few popular dishes at the restaurant. I highly suggest the garlic stuffed tenderloin, the mashed potatoes, and the truffle Mac and cheese. The steak knives were surprisingly dull but I did love the attention to detail with the stamps on the silverware. That was really cool. We also got the carrots, and I don t love goat cheese, but I assumed I could pick off the cheese chunks but it was more coated in a goat cheese sauce than cheese crumbles. So if you re not a fan of goat cheese maybe skip the carrots. Overall I highly suggest this for a date night, or a small group dinner and up to a large group dinner of 30+. The bar was empty but I was admiring how cool the bar was , so it looks like an excellent solo dining option as well.

A home run! Just loved the whole vibe and menu here which was both elevated and so distinctly Texan. It made for the perfect dinner for our one night in Austin. The service was both friendly and helpful with our server providing great recommendations for our first visit here. We started with a buck and pork belly charcuterie which was a nice starter. The rattlesnake rabbit sausage was outstanding - flavorful and and juicy, perfectly balanced by the crispy potatoes. For mains we had the elk and rabbit ravioli. Of the two, the elk was the star. Perfectly cooked with a wonderful rub, it was my favorite dish of the night. The rabbit was also very good, though we found the sauce a bit on the salty side. The ancho lava cake was the perfect finish - delicious. Overall, it was a wonderful evening!

Its a misty Wednesday night and my love and I are out for some much needed one on one time. Ive eaten at LD in Fort Worth and Austin but this is her first time and the meal was fantastic. We started with a cocktail she ordered the espresso martini and I had to try the Willie...a smoked Manhattan but gives a lot of old fashioned, regardless it delicious and her drink is wonderful. We just for it, we get thr trio of cured meats. Theres rabbit, Boar, rattlesnake, duck, lamb, nuts and berries. We loved it, its all very thoughtful and creative. Next are the first courses. We opted for the Elk and Foie Gras sliders and the blue corn lobster hush puppies...wow and omg...the sliders are one of the best things Ive ever eaten. I cannot wait to come back for lunch and just eat those with a side of fries. The hush puppies are crispy and perfect. We shared a gem salad then in to the main...Bison Ribeye with fried guda gnocchis...wow and amazing. We had to try the truffle Mac n chez as well, and a solid bottle of cab. At dinner my live and I were talking about how much fun we have, how we love to enjoy life together. And we decided there and then, that instead of one honeymoon...our life together will be a forever Honeymoon...we will celebrate each other, honor each other, give each other time, love, and respect. We will have as many honeymoons as we possibly can and celebrate our commitment to each other and our love forever not just once! My sun thank you for this magical evening, life is so much more with you in it. Cheers to all the date nights to come, all the honeymoons to share, and all the love we have to give! Love you too the moon and back...and 5 more steps!

The complaint here is largely the food. The service was great! The food came out really quickly, so quickly in fact, that I suspect most of it was already fired and just shoved on a plate. The grilled bread that came with the bone marrow was cold, the crab was lukewarm and tasted soapy, the hush puppies were gluey and warm ish. The bone marrow was delicious, and the rabbit- rattlesnake sausage was fantastic, however. Overall the food was under seasoned, and a massive disappointment for the price point and would have been disappointing if it were a free sample at Costco. Would not recommend.

My boyfriend chose the place based on the menu and ambiance. The food was forgettable and the price was so inflated that it didnt seem worth it. They had things on the menu that were unique but not well executed. The service was great though. The ambiance was rustic and with dark swag. This is Taras boyfriend who decided to take her here for a monumental welcome to Texas, a place shed never been and for her first night I looked forward to spoiling the love of my life to a meal that highlighted the diversity of Austin and this sounded like the place! Im all about new menus that excentuate the variety of ones palette using authentic local resources to tell a story that builds romance and awe as to the different flavors that can be expected when serving rearity like rattle snake and rabbit! In light of a diverse menu, the service was mediocre, the serve staff was youthful in their knowledge of the menu and allowed us to walk down the three courses with no absolute definition of what represented the lonesome dove as a staple to the Austin market. We had to start the rabbit, rattlesnake and lamb thin cut meat that to me was dry and met with no sauce to accomplish the overall satisfaction while developing tastes with hard cognitive challenges as to what its like to eat a snake! Next we had lobster balls and blue crab! The lobster fritters were good, I was definitely enjoying the one I got that we spilt the order in half, one for Tara and one for me. The serving size was minimal and while good, at $20 bucks for two you would wonder if your frugal lifestyle had just gone out the window to branding and footprint. Next.... the Blue Crab! This dish literally tasted like stove top stuffing with a sprinkle of seafood seasonings. At this point, I was certain Id chosen the wrong place and was highly disappointed for making this our evening. The last dish was Waygu beef that was bought at 12ozs at $9 an Oz. The meat was ok, not as fatty as well marbled Wagyu should be and there was no specific taste that would define thus restaurant from a Wagyu steak I could toss on my own grill and do myself. All in all, the end bill was $350 and I would have been just as satisfied, if not more going to a local steak house that ended with a bill that was $100 bucks and I did not feel as though I was bamboozled by a marketing gimmick that forced my realization of what it means to be able to eat at a restaurant downtown Austin.

Very happy with choosing to dine here about a week ago. Walked in and the atmosphere reminds me of walking into a Texas ranch home or at least what I would expect. Good decor and the space was nice. Sat down at the table and was informed the plates they had initially at the table were only for decoration (silver metal type of plate with a rustic look). Afterwards was greeted by the server and started to look at the menu. The chili rubbed pork lamb chops stuck out first but the second option that caught my eye was the elk loin. Decided to order the lamb chops. Something to note that their first course meals are customizable which is nice. Most of them are based on 3 servings for the price so if you want to mix and match they accommodate that very nicely. Must say that is a huge plus if you are curious about several items. I highly recommend the elk sliders as they are very flavorful and the jam they use is well paired. Didn t care for the lobster hush puppies. The rabbit-rattlesnake sausage was good and would do that again along with the sliders. The lamb chop came out and looked like art to me. Very well plated and the taste was good. For dessert I ordered the ancho Chile chocolate cake and my oh my this was a treat. I have eaten out at a lot of restaurants and desserts are the typical same taste or close to one or the other. This however was fantastic. I was informed it won on Iron chef and I can see why. Definitely a true decadent and piece to enjoy. Would order this over and over again. After leaving I still had thoughts about the ancho Chile cake. Can t wait to come back for more the next time I am in Austin.

Lonesome has been one of our team favorite places to go for happy hours for yrs. We visit yesterday big sign display on the sidewalk for happy hour and our bill was over 300.00 for 3 of us. We order 3 sliders, 5 baked oysters, mac and cheese, hushpuppies and 6 crudes and two cocktails each!! All happy hour sizes as usual, real small bites. WE understand if you do not offer happy hour any more but do not advertise and at least change the portions to be a full size. What in the world is happening!!!!Costumer service was not at its best no as usual. We are not coming back and certainly will not refer our costumers to you. Please remove that sign!!! Not ok to false advertise your costumers. We spoke with the manager about and he said they did not longer offer happy hour menu due to menu under construction!!!did not seem to care, even though we are regulars. Remove the sign!!! Up your portions and please up your costumer service. We do not want to see your restaurant be another failed on 6th street. What a shame!!!Photo taken on our way out.

We tried new location a few times during happy hour we were excited to have happy hour location so close to the office. We had been several time and enjoyed it but yesterday we were definitely disappointed. The sign was clearly out front on 6th street promoting the happy hour menu. When we started ordering were were told they are not offering HH anymore and are restructuring the menu. We still had apps or bites and drinks shared between 3 not full menu items just one bite each 3 piece items and a shared dessert. We discussed with the waiter and the manager that has seen us in there several times before our confusion about the HH being unavailable and the sign on 6th street. We were just to be told again they are restructuring the menu again and really no apology or answer. I say do not put a sign out staying you have HH if you are not offering HH! While the food is good it is not worth a over $370 bill for apps and drinks. I recommend only going here for a expensive sit down dinner. Im sadly not returning after this last experience. They waiter, hostess and bartender are amazing and this is not there fail its a managers responsibility to accurately represent their establishment!

For apps, Rabbit-Rattlesnake Sausage and Deviled Gulf Coast Blue Crabs. The sausage was incredible!! Then we got the kale mix and beet salad followed by the phenomenal Roasted Garlic Stuffed Beef Tenderloin and Blackened Gulf Redfish. Everything was so good!! Thanks Lonesome Dove!

Each plate had it own textures and flavors beautifully displayed. Drinks were amazing and exactly the same with each glass poured. Alexis was our waitress tonight. She was so kind, knew the menu as if she wrote it, checked on us every couple of minutes to reassure us that we were satisfied. This is the type of b tier steakhouses that is just fine . Dishes rely on butter / cheese / high fat content for enjoyment rather than carefully crafted and developed flavors. See this as a place you go to if you rarely go out to eat . The step beyond Texas Roadhouse, where the bill is $200 /pp and you are wondering where it all went. I ll tell you, it went to beef claiming to be Waygu that is closer to usda choice I ve had from HEB. I m not saying it was bad. It s fine. But if you are a foodie and looking for a great dinner - there are thousands of other places that don t take the back seat for flavors and ride the butter train. For the management - The hamachi tostadas were seriously embarrassing. A chip with low grade hamachi, lime juice and cilantro ? Come on. The steak was not up to par. Please simplify your menu, and focus on perfecting your hit items .

The food was ok, but service was not ok. The serving time was quite slow, and I found myself waiting longer than expected for my meal to arrive. A mixed bag. The ambiance is attractive, however we were seated at the back of the restaurant. The terrible acoustics and a very noisy table behind us made the entire evening quite painful. Some of the starters were original and tasty, but the mains were subpar, with the tenderloin requested cooking done wrong twice. The bison ribeye was excellent. The fries were so overcooked that they tasted burnt. Service was well intentioned but not flawless.

Went after I made a Thursday reservation. They were definitely busy since I was waiting to be seated for a good 10 minutes. A couple actually came in, waited and left after being there for a couple minutes (there was no one there to receive us). I was seated at the bar (which I prefer since it was just me). Actually waited another 10 minutes until I had to ask one of the bartenders for some water. Had to flag down the bartender whenever I wanted something. Got a few drinks and an appetizer, both werent bad but it wasnt good either considering the price. Got the ~$90 bison steak and it was probably one of the worst steaks Ive ever had. It had so much salt on the top that I barely tasted the meat. I could of made better steak at home. Fully aware that they were busy and that the people working there were really nice once you got their attention, but it was just a bad experience for me.

I dont know why people are giving this place low reviews. Its wonderful! My husband has been to several locations and says its very consistent. This was our first experience at this downtown Austin location and we had no quarrels. Started with the blue corn lobster hush puppies, deviled gulf coast blue crabs, and then went straight to sharing the Montana Bison Ribeye. Delicious! We didnt feel rushed but the waiter still checked on us in a timely manner. My husband ordered a Mole Boulevard and the Willie during our time there (Im currently pregnant so no cocktails for me during this visit) and said they were also nicely done. Our only complaint was how dark it was (they dimmed the lights after 6:30 pm after already being pretty dark) and the music was so loud we could barely hear each other. It felt like we were yelling across the table.

We walked by and saw the windows to the street open, creating an indoor outdoor feel! The decor is really cool and the setting very welcoming. We didnt eat, so we will return this week and try the food. Another review to follow. We haven t had the best day overall and came too early for our reservation. Had to wait at the bar for our table, which gave us time to read through there complex menu and to enjoy one of there great smoked cocktail. Had the Panama Red Daiquiri smoked with cherrywood, which was great. When we finally ended at our table, we sat directly under the AC, view to the kitchen door in the middle of the room. For us, this was just another thing going not in the best direction this day and I m honest, we were not in the best mood anymore and maybe even hard to please. Our first dish was the oyster with Serrano and jalapeño and we were both disappointed. The jalapeño is simply overpowering the oyster. A hint of it would have been enough but a whole slice is way too much. Then the elk sliders came. The bun was cool to the touch, but the sausage was delicious. Absolutely fantastic. As main we had the elk lions and pork chops and both were cooked perfectly. Elk still medium rare. Pork chop so juicy and tender, flavorful and a delight with the wild boar grits. A huge portion too. This was the first thing this day, that finally went well. We really enjoyed their food and the energy of Tim Love. He is a nice guy and a very present and caring host. We will definitely come back because of him and his astonishing menu.

Went for Valentines Day with a set menu. Overall price was $350+ with two meals and 3 drinks shared between the two of us. The appetizer course was my personal highlight and seemed a summary of their normal menu. It was flavorful and had a wide variety of unique tastes to start the meal off with a delicious flavor profile. From there on the meal was disappointing. My second course was an unremarkable salad with pine nuts and a light dressing. The amuse bouche was an extremely tough piece of elk with only one split between the two of us. From other tables it seems there were supposed to be two provide (especially under the exorbitant price) regardless it was utterly tasteless and we wouldnt have finished it anyways. My main dish of beef tenderloin was tender, but very salty, almost as if any salt from the previous dish was included in the main course as an apology. Dessert was a treat of chocolate and raspberry cakes that was a nice enough finish to our Valentines meal and was very rich. Overall a nice atmosphere with a meal that was thrown together for a single day menu, good chefs made it passable but far too expensive to repeat another go at the Lonesome Dove

We received excellent service from Claudio, who can answer your questions about the menu. My divers scallops plate was delivered hot and delicious in every way. My salad was full of savory tastes and textures. My wife enjoyed her chocolate cake dessert which is absolutely sumptuous. Prices are high in keeping with quality of cuisine, lovely dining experience and downtown Austin location. Parking is whatever you can find on the street, so valet may save time and headaches. For a truly fine dining experience, this venue will meet your desires. Recommended. Vegetarian options: Several choices but the primary focus is carnivore. Parking: Typical challenge for Austin downtown parking...valet a worthwhile consideration. Kid-friendliness: Fine dining atmosphere so children not likely to be well received.

Visited on Friday 12.2.22 My lack luster experience was very disheartening. After carefully decided on Lonesome Dove for a date night we were extremely disappointed in our overall experience. For as expensive and reputable as this place is I hold it to a higher standard and should not have accepted the service we received. I will start with our wild game fettine. We ordered the duck, rabbit and rattlesnake sausage, confused by the unclear description was this a blend of meat into one sausage? Or was it supposed to be multiple sausages? Either way it was missing the pistachios and mission figs as descriptide. Our first course with elk sliders and smoked oysters were ok. Temperature on elk was cooked really well. Second course never made it to the table. We were so engaged in each that we didnt even notice until our main course was dropped and realized we were missing a course. We asked our server about it. He went to go check on it and came back and told us that the manager who was expoing had messed up, and that they would box it up for us Togo and take it off our bill. So as were eating our main course and I noticed that my wild boar grits were still grainy and undercooked, fried onions on top they were still raw in the middle. His venison rack and my Berkshire pork chop were cooked really well, but that was the best part of the over all experience. No manager ever came to our table to check on us after the mishap with the second course. Our server tried to make it up to us by offering us dessert but we politely declined. We asked for our bill and the Togos and left very disappointed. If I wanted someone to mess up our order we would have went to Applebees. I should have addressed the situation last night while we were there, but after we left I couldnt stop dwelling on our really expensive subpar experience. As a chef I would probably never return after this. I attempted to call a few times to resolve this issue and see if there was any chance of them redeeming our experience and no one ever answered the phone....so here I am writing this review. We left hungry and ended our night and leftovers at waffle house giggling over our laughable experience we just partook at lonesome dove.

Our experience at Lonesome Dove was excellent. We dined in the wine room with a group of 15 and the staff was on point - friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Accommodating as well, considering we were there past closing time. The food was incredible. We tried just about every starter and they were all delicious, but my favourite was the elk-foie gras sliders. I ordered the Montana bison ribeye for my entree which was divine, as was the fried smoked gouda gnocchi tbh. I can t recall which wine we had but it was an excellent as well. We had also had a round of dessert espresso martinis and port flights to round out the night. All told we were there for over 4 hours, and it was probably the best dinner experience I ve ever had. Highly recommend.

Disheartened by the racism experienced here. As the only dining party that wasnt Caucasian, we noticed that all other tables received complimentary bread except our own. While it could have been an oversight if I was seated in a corner of the restaurant, it was clear as both tables to the left and right were served bread. Other tables throughout also had bread. We didnt mention it since its just free bread, but the disregard speaks volumes. The valet was listed to be $10 but we were charged $15. I learned of the $10 price after and regret tipping an extra $5 to the dishonest valet. Racism in 2022 at what I thought was a higher end establishment was shocking.
