We had dinner at Garrison in the Fairmont Hotel after a full week... we decided we needed a great meal. Garrison delivered! Cool-blue ambiance was almost mesmerizing! Start to finish, the meal was excellent, with one slight observation noted below... JR was our server, and he did a great job. Attentive, but not intrusive. Great job leading us through the menu and especially the specialty cocktail selections. Thanks JR, job well done! Our dining fantasy come true experience began with cocktails... the Garrison Dirty Martini and a Belvedere Vodka Shot with caviar! Check out the pics, amazing presentation for both. The martini served in a chilled test tube on ice, with castelvetrano olives on a party stick in the glass. The vodka shot with a balanced mother of pearl spoon full of caviar on the top. Great fun, and delicious too! The meal began with a compressed melon amuse-bouche... light and delicious. We had the crispy octopus as an appetizer, and the picanha (steak) and pan roasted grouper as entrees. Both were terrific! One suggestion for the kitchen is to hold off on adding salt to the steak a second time after it is cut, the original salt in the rub on the outside of the steak is enough (for our palates anyway! We know some prefer more salt!). The gruyere black truffle tater tots are to die for...!!! The ordered a bottle of French Chablis to accompany dinner, and it was delightful. The Garrison wine list is a dizzying walk through all varietals, Old and New Worlds, and lots of other stuff tossed in. Any wine buff can find a bottle here, and generally reasonably priced for a downtown lux hotel. Dessert brought another treat... after much thought, we selected the chocolate passion fruit dessert, which was kind of a deconstructed smores with passion fruit sorbet on crushed graham crackers on the side. Small mints and jellies ended the evening... Great experience at Garrison! As the listing suggests, $$$$ means expensive. IMHO, worth every penny. Highly recommend Garrison...

We celebrated our 1 year anniversary here and it was great. JR was our waiter and he was the best. Very information, friendly and kept great conversation. We ordered the tartare, red fish, tater tot and medium rare steak. Each dish was cooked to absolute perfection. That has been the talk of the town ever since we left. Thank you for the great experience provided by JR and the rest of the staff.

Im not one to take pictures of moments, as I prefer to live actively within them; however, this once I almost I wish I had. Jasper is an amazing server, and was, in fact, more of a guide for our experience. We started with a welcome bite that was a crispy chickpea bite, with Zatar and a lemon yogurt like pearls. I realized immediately we were in for an evening of treats. We started with the beef tartare and were surprised when the leek tart was served complimentary along side it. The flavors of the goat cheese and bacon jam with the light and flaky leak tart were delicious! The beef tartare with salmon roe was a perfect bite each time, regardless of the mix of ingredients on your bite. We shared a perfectly cooked 24 oz porterhouse. The ramp butter elevated the already perfectly prepared, oak kissed cut of beef (oak is sourced locally from Bastrop). We paired this with the tater tots, which are cubed potatoes cooked in a fat reduction, topped with creama and black truffles, which today, were from Oregon, and the charred carrots. Entirely too full for dessert (that menu was its own work of art), we were served a small dish of in-house prepared candies as we closed out the evening. This included smoked dark chocolate filled with salted caramel, and a peach orange jelly candy dusted in sugar. This was indeed a journey, and not just a meal. We will certainly be back. We also enjoyed watching the kitchen thoughtfully prepare each dish, and the chefs obvious pride in the presentation and delivery of each dish was apparent in each bite. The manager, Christopher, also came by several times to ensure our experience was better than expected. 15/10, highly recommend if you love exploring food and your palate isnt limited. Everyone else will also find something to enjoy, but if your palate is willing to go on the journey, theyre willing to guide you. ***edited*** Weve been back twice since my original review. The menu has changed but the quality and experience havent. Last night we came back for our 6th Anniversary and Brian was our server. Hes pretty new (a few weeks or so under his belt) but we couldnt tell! Brian was knowledgeable about the menu and made recommendations based upon our questions. Every time we come here, its a special experience. Jasper was there and remembered thoughtful details from our previous visits. I dont think well ever stop coming here. Thank you for another anniversary dinner to remember! Vegetarian options: Not many outside of the amazing sides, but they were present. Dietary restrictions: Our server was proactively interested in any food allergies or sensitivity. We dont have any, but if we did, the level of concern would be most appreciated. I suspect its especially important since the kitchen sends out a variety of unexpected treats throughout the dining experience.

Outstanding Service and Exquisite Food at Garrison Restaurant I recently dined at Garrison Restaurant and was absolutely blown away by the top-notch service and incredible food. From the moment we walked in, the manager and staff made us feel welcomed and valued. The manager, in particular, was exceptionally attentive, ensuring that every detail of our dining experience was perfect. He took the time to personally greet us, make menu recommendations, and check in throughout the meal to ensure everything was to our liking. It s rare to find such a high level of personalized service, and it truly made a difference. The staff were equally impressive, demonstrating professionalism and warmth in every interaction. They were knowledgeable about the menu, attentive without being intrusive, and always had a smile on their faces. Their genuine care for the guests was evident and greatly appreciated. As for the food, it was simply exquisite. Every dish we ordered was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The ingredients were fresh, and the culinary skills of the chefs shone through in each bite. Whether it was the perfectly cooked steak, the inventive appetizers, or the decadent dessert, everything exceeded our expectations. Garrison Restaurant provides an exceptional dining experience that combines stellar service with outstanding cuisine. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable meal in a welcoming and elegant setting. Kudos to the manager and the entire team for making our visit truly special!

After doing some research on different restaurants in the area, I was very excited to try the Garrison after seeing positive reviews. However, our experience was lackluster for the following reasons and I do not recommend coming here for the price tag. Food: We ordered the beef tartare, 24oz porterhouse to share, and the tater tots. The beef tartare was delicious. The porterhouse was not very warm (even considering the rest period for a steak) and a lot of the bites were tough. It seemed like this particular cut didnt have the best marbling. For $135, I would expect it to be exceptional. The tater tots were very tasty, but I looked up pictures of the tater tots after hearing another server say thats one of the things theyre known for. The pictures showed tater tots with sliced black truffle on them which we were very excited about. When it got to our table we only had a little bit of grated truffle on our tots so I feel like we got taken a bit here. No complaints on the drinks as my wife had 1 martini, 1 glass of wine, and I had bourbon (neat) so that is something that doesnt require too much quality control. Service: Our server was friendly although not very attentive with a restaurant that wasnt very busy at the time. My wife and I both had drinks get empty and were never offered a refill before our bill was brought out. Additionally, we were celebrating an anniversary which I had added in our OpenTable reservation. The server nor anyone else at the restaurant ever congratulated us and offered us a dessert. I dont expect free desserts, but a congrats and showing us the dessert menu is one of those things that makes it nice to pay a little bit more for a little fancier dinner. Atmosphere: No real complaints here, but my seat was facing the bundles of oak lumber on one of their walls. On this wall there were spiderwebs between one of the bundles that were very visible. In summary, we paid over $300 for three drinks, an appetizer, an entree, and a side and left feeling like we spent way too much money for what we received in terms of food and service. Hopefully this was a rare event and I hope other guests dont share our same experience.

The shef has put his work into the menu so that the dishes complemented each other. We had pierogis as a starter (tasty; they also threw me into my childhood a bit) followed by great texas redfish and pikanha accompanied with tatortots and broccoli. Everything was exceptionally well cooked. Desserts are a form of art. Apple tart and sweet potato cake are in the pictures. As for the drinks, the cocktail list is a bit too boring, I believe. That said, spirits are of very high quality.

We didn t bother to send it back they would have trashed it and being a restaurant owner that wouldn t have set well in my head. I don t like wasting food especially an animal dying for our purpose. tater tots with black truffle the truffle tasted old I could ve done without the truffle The atmosphere was pretty but couldn t enjoy it because how cold it was in the establishment. The restaurant had little heating lamps hanging from the ceiling. I had to wear my jacket while eating dinner. Our waitress was freezing also. Over all service was great! Kind of disappointed. We opted for the New Year s Eve experience which included a six course meal with an option to do wine pairing. The total for the experience was over $600. With that in mind, you would think that the six course meal would actually be filling, and be actual servings. Additionally, you would think that the service would be fantastic, however none of that was the case. Each plate consisted of about two bites and my water glass went unfilled for the last half of the experience and we were there for about 2 1/2 hours. The best part about the experience was the wine options that came with the meal which was an extra cost. Don t think we d come back.

I ve left a couple 5 star restaurant reviews before, but Garrison is one of those standouts that truly deserve it. We came here to celebrate my birthday and were blown away. Food standouts: Truffle tater tots, kampachi crudo, blueberry foie gras parfait, and akushi porterhouse steak. When most places have a truffle and potatoes dish of some kind, I typically just get a dusting of truffle seasoning or flavor. The tater tots at Garrison have multiple layers of fresh shaved truffle all over the top. Their crudo of yellowtail has generous cuts of fish. The blueberry foie gras parfait was hands down one of the most interesting and surprising flavor combinations I ve ever had. And the porterhouse was cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and prepared ready to share. I also loved that every plate was made to share, which is how we like to usually eat anyway. Service was superb. Our server answered specific menu and ingredient questions, gave great recs, was attentive but didn t hover unnecessarily just great. Ambience and vibe felt elevated without being stuffy. Being inside the Fairmont was festive, since it was around the holidays, and parking was free after being validated at the restaurant. Great pick for a special occasion or Austin style fine dining. We ll absolutely be back. Parking: Parking garage at the Fairmont is free up to 3 hours with restaurant s validation

I adored my smoked duck, his wagyu rib eye was perfect, and the chocolate dessert with the smoked chocolate, chocolate cake and miso butterscotch custard and sesame ice cream was out of this world. 10 out of 10, no notes.

This gem is set back deep inside the Fairmont - without direct street access, so many probably pass it by. Meander through the lobby, lobby bar, a simulated downtown area food court and walk up onto a porch and through the facade of a Texas farmhouse. The theme of the menu is smoked and the restaurant has little built-in coves all around with Bastrop firewood. The service was great - definitely more of the upscale vibe, but minus the attitude - basically theyll give you a taster/present your wine, but not judge you if you cant name the notes... Tell you about the specials, but not judge if you ask the portions are decent. The perfect ATX vibe. And the portions are decent! We debated the size of the portions and if we were over or under-ordering when we saw scallop printed singularly on the menu...Would the salad be two artistically placed pieces of lettuce? We were pleasantly surprised that even though the pricing is definitely a $$$ experience - the portions actually felt worth the cost without sacrificing flavor and we left full. The salad was a packed local leaf lettuce that four of us shared! The hasselback side potato was served with both halves (so fluffy with amazing loaded drizzle). The leek tart was enough to share as a side (and so freaking good). And the fish and poultry were all appropriately plated. It all was delicious. The chef sent over some little nomz to start and I was a vegetarian in a steakhouse and I ate the best smoked cabbage Ive ever tasted. They brine it in olive oil for hours and serve with vegan aioli. The rolls were so magical...dont skip the yeast rolls. My partner got the barbecued grouper and it was so moist and had great flavor. We were too full to try their desserts but the staff brought us house-made chocolates and passion fruit candies to end our meal. Our only criticism (if this even counts) is we wanted at least one more clear alcohol option on the highlighted drink menu that had some fruit or herb notes. My partner got a delicious gin & tonic, but I was looking for a slightly sweet infused vodka drink. All that to say is this vegetarian will most likely be going back to this surf and turf spot again soon! Vegetarian options: Had multiple delicious vegetarian sides and entrees. Server asked about restrictions.

Our first visit to Garrison grill and we were so impressed with the whole experience! As we walked in from the welcoming, and efficient valet, we were then not only directed but accompanied to the restaurant location by a gentleman at the bellhop desk. He told us about the wonderful experience we were headed toward. We were greeted at the hosting stand by name and with Birthday Wishes. The ambiance and details of the decor are sophisticated elegance! The attentiveness of our server J.R., Manager Eric, the Chefs and all the staff was incredible and unobtrusive. The professionalism balanced with genuine connections was unmatched by any other experience. The food! I could go on and on about the unique flavors and creative menu here prepared over open fire of post oak, but you must experience it for yourself. Garrison is highly recommended as The Fine Dining experience in Austin.

Garrison is truly a hidden gem in Austin. If you have never been, you are missing out! We wanted to try Garrison for my wifes birthday. It was our first time. From the moment we walked in, everything was perfect. They go above and beyond to ensure you have the best dinner possible. The food was amazing. They may not have any Michelin stars yet, but the dishes are up there and can compete with Michelin star restaurants. The service was truly perfect. Everything from attention to detail, explaining the food being served, and anything and everything else was done to maximize our comfort and satisfaction from our visit. I particularly want to take to the chefs who prepared the amazing food we ate and all the servers, especially Fatih, for the amazing experience that they made possible for us. We will certainly be back, and I highly recommend you to try this gem if you have not yet already.

Where do I start??? Well lets just say food and service was so subpar at Deans steakhouse at JWs marriot that I didnt want to have our hopes up for Garrisons at the Fairmont hotel. Lets just say, Wow! If you come to visit Austin, book a hotel room at the Fairmont and eat at Garrisons for 1 experience at least. We used to celebrate special occasions at the Driskell bar and grill restaurant but its been closed. Chef Bull was awesome at the Driskell but hes moved on to do bigger things. However, Im so happy to find food and service thats finally comparable to our stellar experiences back at the Driskell. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with champagne by our server, Haley. What I loved about her was when I asked her what she thought about a certain dish, she was honest with her feedback and said its not my favorite; however, I really like..... Instead of your usual everything is good here and you get disappointed upon 1st bite of that dish We ordered the tator totts, octopus, pork chops and the steak. Everything was Amazing!!! Tator totts are tator totts or so I thought until I ate garrisons tator totts * they were shaped like tofu squares, however crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside with yummy cream and shaved truffles. I love octopus, meaning I will order them whenever they are on a menu. The best Ive had was in cancun at puerta madero; however, these were tasty on the inside like there but was extra crispy outside. Reminded me of my vietnamese childhood growing up eating dried or grilled squid but elevated for adults. Steaks in the United States is steak...eh, if cooked right, its good or great, but nothing special like in Florence, Italy. Our last bad steak experiences was at deans Italian steakhouse at JW Marriott in Austin Tx and J. CARVERS Austin was eh, ok. Sooo, I was a little skeptical to order the wagyu beef.... it did not disappoint bc it melted in my mouth with great bursts of beef flavors. Dessert was good, but it was not mind blowing good (pecan souffle, very well executed). However, if youre going to make a souffle, pour some chocolate liquid into it and make me still think of you. Bahaha. Great place to celebrate for special occasions; well worth the $$$. We will be back with our party of 6; crossing my fingers that food and service will be just as good as tonights. Garrison, please do not take our party of 6 for granted bc of the automatic 20% gratuity like JW Marriott Deans Italian chophouse did when we come back to celebrate our friends birthday dinner.

I stayed at this hotel recently. I made a reservation for a night at the Garrison restaurant at the hotel. I got seated on the lift up bar top facing the grill. I wore nice dress shorts, shoes and a Harley Davidson collard button down shirt. I ordered and after a few mins I needed to go to the restroom. As I walk out I politely told the host & manager I will be right back. At the entrance I saw a host was standing in my way and refused to let me leave. After having to explain to her where I was going, I turned and the first hostess and manager were behind me. I realized then, I was just profiled, and surrounded. The manager had radioed for her to stop me from leaving. They redirected me to a restroom so they could see me. Was it the Harley shirt? The experience was unprofessional, disappointing and very embarrassing. It was a full house that night. After I finished my meal and paid the bill, I walked out unnoticed by anyone. The food was awesome, I got a chance and thanked the chef. However, It would have been awesome to have enjoyed my meal without having to be watched as I was. Upon, leaving Friday morning, I spoke with a guest services employee that assured they would be in touch to insure this kind of customer treatment never happens again. He took notes, name and phone number down. Its been 7 days now. No phone call or email. John dined on 06/02/2022

I have been to restaurants of all kind all over the world and I have never spent so much time being hungry without any food, or service, or a smiling face at any establishment, let alone one where we as a group of 10 people spent thousands of dollars at. It took nearly an hour since we sat down for them to take our order. The manager walked by and asked how is everything? And proceeded to say laughingly oh you haven t even got anything yet which was funny at first, but very aggravating 3 hours into the dinner. I specifically did not want to order desert because I didn t want to spend another 2 hours waiting. I paid for our bill, and went to another establishment where the food was significantly better and faster. If you value your time, or a respectable service, don t go here.

Kind people, but exactly what should be expected at a place that costs 300$ for two people to eat. Honestly the place is more of a status thing. The wagyu here is not Japanese wagyu as only 7 restaurants in the US are on the list of having actual kobe and this is not one of them. Generally speaking the meal was largely overpriced and underwhelming. Don t get lost in its price tag or people who say its great just because they overpaid for a cut of moderately good beef. Way overpriced. Pretentious service. Loud obnoxious music which they did turn down at my request. Tater tots at $35.00 a pop no better than I ve eaten in many public school cafeterias. Mercifully meager serving of dried out grilled chicken breast. Nice crunchy, but not stringy, asparagus. Decent grilled Spanish octopus - although how it s ethnicity was determined remains a mystery. The silver dollar sized piece of duck breast was excellent, as was the miserly serving of fole gras. Parker rolls were on a par with store-bought King s Hawaiian rolls decent, but nothing to brag about. The lemon tart for desert was fantastic and the coffee was about the best I ve had anywhere on the planet. One member of our party left to use the rest room and inadvertently dropped his napkin on the floor without noticing it. A waiter immediately came over, picked up the napkin and made a big show of folding it precisely before putting it back on the table - rather than unobtrusively replacing it with a clean napkin. All in all, I was very glad someone else was paying for the meal. Most serving sizes were quite small - and, in some cases, this was a blessing. I won t be going back - even if someone else is paying the bill. I could have been there on an off night. I hope that was the case.

Overall, I really enjoyed the flavors the restaurant presented. Ryan, the server, mentioned that everything has a theme of fire or smoke, and I could definitely tell. The profiles themselves were subtle, thoughtful, and indelibly scrumptious. And though I visited on a Tuesday, I think the ideas were grander than the overall execution. Nevertheless, those flavors and techniques and tastes were so excellent that I was not even mad. First, I ordered the Antiquity cocktail, which was basically a gin-based old fashioned, and it, too, was light and delicate while still reminiscent of a traditional old fashioned. Then, the first bites of a profiterole and chickpea cube were also good. My only criticism would be that the cube had a bitter kind of taste, and honestly, I was unsure if it was the aioli dot that topped it or if it was the chickpea cube itself. I think maybe a bit more acid or a less bitter aioli would help it deliver on its intention For an appetizer, I went with the octopus, because I savor a well-executed tentacle. This also did not disappoint. The rouille was velvety and striking in its peppery notes. One theme that Garrison sustained exquisitely were the additions of fruit to dishes like this one. They included small black orange slices and cherry tomatoes that added a balanced addition of sweetness and acid against the meaty, greatly crisp exterior of the octopus. However, the octopus was slightly over and could have been more tender. Had that been avoided, it would have shined. For the entrée, I dined on the duck breast with foie gras and black truffle. The brioche and duck were superb. The duck Ive had in the past has tended to be incredibly gamey and chewy due to how undercooked it has been. This was tender and succulent. The brioche base was amazing in its toasted butteriness. The truffle was barely perceptible, and the foie gras was okay. Perhaps I am spoiled. I had foie gras for the first time last year, and it was a palate changing experience, like St. Paul on the road to Damascus but with my tongue. This did not measure up to that experience. However, I was not terribly bothered, as my attention was distracted by the sway of the rhubarb mash/puree that came with it. The dish was quite rich, and the rhubarb cut through it perfectly...Yet, I thought there was too little. Put more of that on the plate! Its like I got a kiss on the dance floor only for that lovely partner to slip away into the wilderness, not even leaving a slipper. I get fine dining aims to be minimalist, but seriously, I vote for more. The dessert was also good and the service was attentive (though, it was a Tuesday). In all, I would recommend the Garrison.

True fine dining is a delectable meal accompanied by a joyful experience. Garrison does this in spades. From preparation to presentation, Garrison feels like a Michelin starred experience, but with more value. My favorites include their take on a Caesar w / romaine hearts and charred alium. The skate and smoked roe was extremely flavorful. The cucumber gado gado was as much art as it was delicious. My suggestion is to come early, stay late and try as much on the small plate menu as possible. Be sure to ask for Jasper and let him enlighten you on the proper wine pairings. They tried hard, but it was a miss for us. First, we had trouble even getting there, as the valet zone was so clogged that we had to park in a city lot two blocks away. When we finally got inside, the room seemed big and soulless. Though it was empty when we arrived, we were offered only a choice of two poorly-located tables. The waiter tried hard to convince us that we had an ideal table, so we made the best of it though we didnt agree. . The tater tots were indeed good, and the roasted cabbage was great. I have no idea how a hair got into our tater tots, but they were quick to replace the dish. Both of our mains, the branzino and the duck, were disappointing. The branzino was salty and a little tough, and the duck had gristle though the flavors were good. We were also comped a roasted butternut squash, which was one of the best dishes of the night. . Altogether, somehow, we simply never managed to relax in there, for all the fussing by the staff. Austin has so many great restaurants, we dont expect to return here.

This place is underrated and deserves more attention. If you are a foodie and well travelled, youll enjoy this place. Fantastic service and food. The place doesnt invest a lot on decorations or presenting a flamboyant vibe but the food is def world class. My husband and I made a reservation and arrived on a Saturday night, we were a little late due to traffic but found the auto texting process very non pressuring and professional. It removed our anxiety to lateness but also kept us communicated. We were slightly disappointed that the Wagyu beef was not on menu of the night but everything we ordered was very delicious ALSO very generous portion for fine dining. Knowing Im pregnant, the server offered mocktail and a dessert on house( because I substituted an ingredient for the dessert due to no-alcohol diet restrictions). The duck was divine , and the lettuce was my favorite (fantastic shredded egg topping and dressing). Tots with truffles was a lot more than just an appetizer. Octopus was fun. Note some of the dishes may have garlic in it so if you are not a fan of it, make sure to check. We love garlic even in fine dining so our palates has a great time. We spent way more in Uchiko but we had happier stomachs at Garrison. Worth taking family/friends here too.

The octopus was crispy and the saffron aioli was delicious. The touch of yuzu on the tuna crudo was subtle and lovely. All in all, we had a wonderful evening. Way overpriced for the portion and the quality of food. The pours from the wine pairing were generous and the pairing was on point, but other than that and the service, our experience was pretty disappointing. If youre going to serve a thin sliver of duck or rib eye, I expect that bite to be perfect and free of gristle. Its also a bit ridiculous that the menu add-ons were almost just as expensive as the tasting menu itself. Overall, Im glad I came but I dont plan on returning.

Just a quick last minute decision to take a weekend to Austin and dinner at Garrison in Fairmont Hotel downtown. The food was excellent and service was superb, from the hostess to the waitress. Sous chef Jonathan visited our table and that made our evening. Great gem inside Fairmont Hotel. Will be back definitely.

One of the best fine dining experiences I ve had in Austin! The staff are super friendly and professional! We were seated quickly and attended to just as fast. We ordered the Warm Ricotta, a whole roasted Bronzino, and Rigatoni Pasta with Swordfish. Our waiter provided. All which were fresh and delicious! I strongly recommend the grilled Bronzino! Our waiter provided us a side of brussel sprouts and desert, free of charge which was an amazing touch! Thank you so much! It was overall a great experience for my girlfriend and I! We will be returning soon!

Austin needed a restaurant like this. Excellent service starting with the hostess, supper accommodating server and manager (Eric). Seasonal menu (hard to find in Austin) and great wine list! We had the beef tartar, tuna, crispy octopus, charred cabbage and duck. Went great with our bottle of Paul Hobbs 2015 Cab. Highly recommend!
