Such a unique place. Love the plants and cats. Smoky is a black, round, and beautiful cat. Some theater going on. That was so fun. Drinks good. Ordered some pasta from the food truck but just not for my taste. I ve had better.

Just saw Radium Girls here. Unique and phenomenal, an important story told with such care and craft. I loved seeing how gentle they were with the puppets, how much life they gave them and treated them with. Seating was intimate and comfortable. Will definitely be a must see every time Im in Austin!

I dont go here for anything but the fact that it shares a lot with patrizis. Patrizis is AMAZING there good is grand. However this place is has the only restroom in the whole lot. They clearly have mens and womens restrooms but chose to make them gender neutral. This is EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE, ladies beware .... Gentleman watch out!!! I tried to use the restroom that clearly had a urinal in it but when I opened the door it was full of women and I got the biggest stair down. I used the other restroom but was embarrassed to find out there was a lady in there as well. There is also a lack of doors and the opt for curtains or NO DOORS at all. Its sad, disrespectful, and is uncomfortable overall. If you need to use the restroom please go before or just hold it. Its terrible absolutely disgusting that there is no privacy and no alternatives.

Saw a play/musical/dog show/acrobatics performance there called the Mutt Cracker and it was outstanding! The versatility of the performers was incredible. The price of the show is variable, based on how much you want to pay, making it an inexpensive source of entrainment if you are low on cash, or a way to support local talent if you are not. I would highly recommend seeing a show there.

Great atmosphere, food and drinks - I came for the food and noticed they also have an amazing theatre and we will be coming back to see the mutt cracker show in the very near future. There is parking but understandably full because this place is awesome the staff is also very kind and friendly. Bonus they have a black cat that hangs out while you eat!

This is a terrific community venue. Ive seen some good productions (plays and other performances) here and attended some merchant/fair events. Their courtyard is designed perfectly for events like that, as its not a flat, square space. The Butterfly Bar is on-site as well, which can add to the Vortex experience you are having. I look forward to seeing what is happening here.

I went to a market at this location and it was amazing! There was live music, tasty food, a fire pit, interesting people, and amazing vendors. I did not get to see the show, but I plan on going back to see one. This place really makes me miss Austin.

6 of us went last weekend to see Rap Unzel and thoroughly enjoyed it!! In from out of town so had no idea what to expect with venue or play, but thoroughly enjoyed both!! I am 64 and have been going to plays all of my life but have never had the Butterfly Bar experience. I highly recommend!! PS-dress for the weather, our afternoon show was a little hot, did not effect the quality of acting at all.

Located in the heart of Manor, The VORTEX feels like it is located both directly on the heartbeat of Austin as well as a crossroads of its past and future. Downtown is close. Campus is even closer. Theres enough funky locally owned places to give it that old Austin feel while newer apartment complexes begin to creep in around the corner -- signs of whats to come. The VORTEX, right in the middle of all of this, feels eternal -- a place where things feel familiar, yet are subtly changing. Not taking into account the excellent Butterfly Bar or Patrizis (I wrote separate reviews for each, all located within this compound) The VORTEX is an institution and the premier theatre for live performance and remains a platform for emerging talent. Whether it be dance, ballet, experimental, childrens theatre, whatever -- chances are if you like live performance there will be something playing here that youll like.

Annie Jump and the Library of Heaven A MUST see! There are so many layers to this story. I cannot even began to think of where to start or what to point out. Not an atypical story or what is perceived as everyday struggles, or is it? I can say I am looking forward to a par two and three as I feel that there is a lot of story that had yet to be told! We are all librarians in some type of way!

Patrizis is the best pasta place Ive ever been. A food truck that serves gourmet fresh pasta! The outdoor seating is very family friendly, and the atmosphere is lovely for a date or a small party. The butterfly bar serves fantastic cocktails, and all profits support the Vortex theater, a non-profit.

This place is a great representation of Austin. They do the weirdest shows here but also really good ones. It would be fun to walk in on any night, and you would be guaranteed a good time. varying degrees of it, but Ive never seen anything outright bad here. The butterfly bar is a great addition, they even do you a butterfly festival annually. The often do a lot of sales or fairs like the witches market outside in front.

It is a fun place where events are held. I went to the Drum event there. Where my daughters capoeira class was preforming for the occasion. They have an indoor restroom in the bar area but the cool stuff is outside. Luckily it was a wonderful day.

I wish I could give it less, it was my first time there and honestly I was very disappointed. The bar tender didnt even greet me, I am feeling like customer service is out the door these days. What happened to getting to know people and relating, talking about what place you represent, it wasnt even packed, so plenty of time to make conversation,. Instead I was insisted out the door when I felt the place was not as expected. Too bad.
