The Peacock is truly a gem for Mediterranean cuisine! From the moment you step inside, youre greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. The decor is thoughtfully designed, blending modern touches with cozy, rustic elements that capture the essence of the Mediterranean. The menu is absolutely unique, offering a creative twist on traditional Mediterranean dishes. Every plate is beautifully presented and bursting with authentic flavors. Whether youre craving classic hummus and falafel or more adventurous offerings, theres something for everyone. The service is equally top-notch. The staff are attentive, friendly, and passionate about the food they serve, making the entire dining experience even more enjoyable. If youre looking for a place with amazing food, a cozy ambiance, and exceptional service, I highly recommend giving The peacock a visit. It s the perfect spot for a memorable meal!

Food was ok, but the service not. I have never seen that the servant takes your unfinished plate without asking from you & bring the check immediately (not asked), not clarified if we need to split it or not. My feeling that there is a timer & if you cannot finish on time - this is your problem.

Had a very good experience on a Saturday. We landed at 2 PM and the restaurant had ample seats available. There is a cozy outdoor seating area as well. Food was good. Service and ambiance were excellent. I was looking forward to trying several items from the lunch menu but they only offer brunch selections till 4 PM during weekends which was a a big let down. The chicken, beef kebab and watermelon salad were good. The charred mushroom kebab was ok. Can t really justify the price for the offering. There are other Mediterranean restaurants out there that serve better quality food but it s a trade off between quality and fine dining experience. This building is called the Proper hotel and houses several restaurants.

The food is a la cart/ family style. The portions are VERY big. I enjoyed the hummus with freshly made pita bread. I also had the Spring Vegetable tajine paired with a saffron rice. Everything was delicious extremely good.

The Peacock offers an exquisite menu, complemented by an ambiance and service that truly stand out. The restaurant exudes a serene spa-like essence, enhanced by its Scandinavian and botanical design. The breakfast menu is equally impressive. We shared the muhammara and both opted for the avocado toast with salmon. The toast, seasoned with a fresh medley of mint and parsley, combined with the tangy sweetness of tomato jam, delivered a unique and delightful flavor profile. However, the standout was the toasted almond muhammara perfectly smoky, spicy, and smooth. We re already looking forward to returning to explore more of their offerings.

The Peacock is the hotel restaurant for the Proper, a trendy upscale hotel on the edge of downtown. The food was excellent, on par with the best Mediterranean Austin offers; the restaurant is wrapped in light wood with glass walls, and this upscale destination still feels inviting. Paired with forgettable cocktails that are so smooth you forget you are drinking them. The pita was freshly baked, or so it seemed, and the food looked and tasted fresh but was still quite filling; its a place that beckons you to keep eating. Located on the edge of the vibrant Second Street scene, this feels less like a hotel concept and more like an undiscovered jewel. The table service was impeccable; the overall quality of food, service, and atmosphere demanded a premium price, which they have.

We had the salmon kabob. It s served over saffron rice with Taziki hummus and a cucumber/tomato salad. it was filling, but not heavy. So many flavors on one plate that complement each other so flawlessly. We also had the roasted beet salad. Deanna was our server. It s so refreshing to receive such great service. We sat outside. Cooling fans, very private. A plethora of succulents, plants, bushes , stunning. Outstanding service. The creamiest hummus layers of flavors on top. The naan was warm and fresh. The dumplings were visually pleasing as well as delicious. A glass of mediocre Chardonnay is $30 and only one choice for Chardonnay . That s more than Beverly Hills and I thought Houston was wild with drink prices. That s my only negative. I will always go back such great energy if you want quiet or boisterous. You simply pick the preferred seating for your mood. 4 stars is the hefty valet & wine prices.

This is a great place to have a nice visit with friends, snack on some hummus, and enjoy a nice atmosphere. Definitely not a repeat on the main dish side for us. A Coors Light beer is $9, so let that be a gauge for the visit. I ordered the tenderloin kabab for $35. Its 2 skewers of meat chunks and some garnish. Sides are extra of course. I question whether the meat was tenderloin. The second piece I had was so chewy I had to spit it into my napkin. So, either it wasnt tenderloin or I got a piece that should have been scrap. I had another few pieces and didnt eat the rest. The meat was under seasoned and tasted like someone cooked it over one of those little sterno flames that you put under a catering dish. The chicken kababs had that same flavor of flame fuel. Someone ordered the saffron rice. It tasted like it was flavored with a saffron version of a ramen spice packet. I had to kill the after taste with a swig of beer. We had some lamb meatballs and they were pretty good, but nothing I couldnt get a Trader Joes. 6 of us had drinks and dinner and the bill was about $750 plus $30 for valet parking. I put this restaurant in the category of newish Austin restaurants that are nicely decorated and have a good vibe, but the food is just so so. Great food reviews I assume are from folks that dont cook and dont understand what the food should taste like if done well. This was a one and done for our group of locals. We may stop in for a drink or some hummus if were near by for some reason.

Peacock is such a cute restaurant with friendly, knowledgeable, attentive servers. However, there has been a huge drop-off in their food since the many times I ve eaten there and my most recent experience on Tuesday April 2. The protein portions (eg kebabs) are a lot smaller. We got steak and salmon kebabs. The steak kebab was chewy instead of tender. The fries looked like they were cooked from frozen. The glob of cheese/cream on the broccoli isn t tasty nor visually appealing. The only things that seemed right were the hummus and couscous. I don t know what happened, but I was embarrassed I took my friends visiting from the UK there. Maybe there is a different chef on weeknights than weekends? I don t know, but the food was a big disappointment.

This last time I went, I was celebrating my birthday and they knew and brought me some complimentary drink and ice cream with a candle!

Atmosphere was very nice, but the food was hit or miss. Dumplings were great as expected, but the Lamb Kefta was not. The biggest shock was the prices of everything especially drinks. $18 was the bottom price for a glass of the house wine. Then they add in a Wellness Charge when the bill arrived. They are also passing the Beverage Tax on to the consumer in addition to the normal high Austin local tax. Too expensive for the quality.

We loved our brunch here, and can t wait to come back for dinner. The interiors are done, with double height ceiling. From the moment you enter the restaurant, you know it s going to be a great experience.

Wow. Mass food poisoning. My whole dinner party except for one (who had fish) got food poisoning from bad wagyu steak at Peacock last night. I put wagyu in quotes because it was flank steak. It was super chewy, low quality meat. Im absolutely shocked at this. I have been a regular there for a couple years. Lately Ive seen the standard of quality decrease, witnessing a temper tantrum from a waiter just a week or so ago. Now I have food poisoning trauma and Im not sure I can go there again without gagging. I would like to see a sincere reply from management here, and outreach from management explaining why wagyu (the highest quality of meat) was switched out with old flank steak... you poisoned everyone at our table. That said, the ambiance and service were excellent as usual. Not that this matters while being served meat of such low quality that it is poisonous.

Very chatty & noisy place over the weekend. Coming from someone who has had an opportunity to eat authentic mediterranean food - nothing exceptional. The food was average at best & meat kebabs were disappointing (hard meat to chew, bland in taste). Maybe the saving grace were the Hummus & freshly served Pitas.

Great Mediterranean food, great ambiance, great service. We went for my birthday and had the chicken skewer and lamb skewer, both very good. I tried the Lebanese red wine which turned out pretty good. My son got a flaming burnt orange cocktail which he liked. There was a flaming cheese appetizer that we didn t get, but I noticed a lot of other tables got, so I ll have to go back and try that. I got the orange crème brûlée and liked how unique it was with a savory spicy crunchy topping. The sticky date pudding was recommended but we didn t get to try it. Next time :)

I must tell the food is phenomenal ! We often visit this place for humus and gulf shrimps and those were outstanding, however, starting from the host stand untill we actually got seated whole process took about 50 minutes while we were asked to wait for 15-20 mins , we were seated after almost an hour on the same table that was vacant from an hour. The worst part was we got seated and waited for our server for another 10 mins. A server from another table arrives and tells us our server is busy with other tables and started us with water ! Waited for 10 mins again until we placed an actual order for our food and wine ! Spent 250$ for two and felt like it wasn t worthed at all ! Be better :)

Amazing atmosphere for a date night. The food was delicious, just be careful with the hidden charges. The dessert menu with the wine pairing is unintuitive. The price with the wine pairing is only for the wine and its added onto the desert price above it. Theres also a ~3.5% wellness charge by default. Besides that the pita bread was super fresh and the chicken breast kebab was delicious. The wild grouper was ok... The fish wasnt as good and it was too salty, but the spiciness was on point.

Truly disappointed. Snapper crudo was bad quality cuts of the fish (the stringy kind with inedible bits). The saffron rice had an aftertaste from grains or nuts that are past their shelf life. Had brunch here twice while staying at the hotel as guest. The first day was great with excellent service and good food. The second day was soured when the host informed us there were no seats at 11am inside a half empty restaurant, the next early seating wouldn t be until 1:30pm which is ridiculous. I asked about all the empty tables and she said they were reserved. Didn t try to make accommodations to find a solution and just left us hanging. Ended up eating in the bar area with our food awkwardly placed on tiny tables. Terrible service for a hotel that positions itself as it does. I get better treatment at a Hilton Garden. A place might look good in the surface but goes a long way to actually delivering basic service.

Nice ambience, and the food was pretty good. We had really bad service. Our waiter was nice, but she took her time refilling waters taking over 13 minutes each time that she left to refill a water. The very tall lady who brought us our entrees walked to our table and banged our entrees on the table in front of people who did not order those entrees, without asking any of us who ordered what. That tall lady also had a weird attitude that made some of our table feel uncomfortable when she dropped the food onto our table aggressively. She looked at me and rolled her eyes as she banged my sister s order onto the table in front of me quite odd. Our check was approximately $700, and we tipped very well. The waitress stopped refilling waters altogether at 10:00 pm, which is late, but our reservation started at 8, and I was surprised that the staff was bad at refilling our drinks bc there were not many people at the restaurant.

When Peacock first opened the service and food were impeccable and well worth the price. I have been to this restaurant over 5 times in the past few years and every time I feel that the quality is on a declining trend. Last night was the absolute worst. The food we ordered was below mediocre. The hummus seemed stale and tasted sour, The chicken and shrimp skewers were over cooked and just bland. Same can be said about the rice which was dry and hard. The absolute worst was the server who walked away when I was in the middle of telling him that the hummus seemed stale. I have never had such terrible service at a restaurant where you end up paying more than $300 for a meal. This place appears to cater to those who want to see and be seen. If you are looking for a culinary experience, please walk away from this place.

Went for Brunch, the steak pieces in my Turkish Steak & Eggs were absolutely RAW...as in cold. Seems as though they threw the skewer on the grill for grill marks and served it. $32 for 3 chunks of fatty, undercooked raw meat? I informed the waiter, showed him, and he seemed uninterested and unapologetic. Probably scared for his job - so it cost me $32. No offer to comp the dish or replace it. Get real, who does that? This restaurant gets, generally, 4 stars. The dishes were ok with the occasional standout. The dumplings were wonderful, as was the hummus and the baklava. They lose two stars because of something that borderline makes me irate. We got the final bill, I tipped well (Shea did a great job). However I saw they were charging multiple percent for a wellness surcharge. The fine print said this was to support healthcare for their staff. I m sorry. I spent hundreds of dollars on a meal and you need to set an additional surcharge so you can provide health benefits? Shame on you. You should pay a living wage and healthcare for your employees. I shouldn t have to pay it for you in addition to the forty dollar Manhattan you charged me for. Ridiculous.

Mixed Experience, with great value placed on customer service I recently dined at peacock and had a mixed experience. The food was good, and the ambiance added a charming touch to the experience However, our overall satisfaction was marred by an oversight regarding allergies. Despite notifying the staff about our dietary restrictions and allergies, my friend experienced an allergic reaction due to an oversight in the kitchen. The lack of attention to these crucial details was disappointing, and it affected our overall enjoyment of the meal. On a positive note, the manager promptly addressed the situation. They sincerely apologized for the oversight, demonstrating a genuine concern for our well-being. To their credit, we were not charged for the meal, which somewhat mitigated the situation. Its clear that the management values customer safety and satisfaction, but improvements in communication and attention to dietary restrictions are essential for a more seamless dining experience.
