Goz Odediran is the lawyer you want on your team if you are a student facing a university disciplinary proceeding. Goz is a skilled negotiator with deep knowledge of the internal disciplinary processes of different universities. They are not like court proceedings. Most lawyers are not familiar with university disciplinary proceedings. Many lawyers are ineffective in assisting students and may even make the situation worse. Goz helped our family successfully appeal the dismissal (expulsion) of our son from medical school in the final year of his MD/PhD program. I only wish we had called Goz as soon as the school requested a meeting with him. We learned the hard way that universities are expelling students for minor offenses. Do not wait call Goz right away if you are a student accused of any type of infraction. Do not respond to any school communications yourself let Goz do the talking. She is excellent.

II highly recommend Goz Odediran as an education rights attorney. She was referred to us, and we hired her to help us with an extremely difficult situation for our family. My daughter was facing expulsion with no evidence except the word of 2 other students. We didn t have much time to gather evidence, but we had enough. She helped to prepare our daughter and she answered all our questions very quickly and efficiently. We did not originally win our case, not due to lack of evidence, the school hearing was a complete joke and they did not listen to our case. They put an 80 yo woman as the moderator and she wasn t listening, and I m convinced she was told to side with the school. However, something happened after the 504, and Goz called right away and said our case was overturned! The school knew they were in the wrong! My 15-year-old son was wrongfully accused of an action that would have tarnished his high school record and prevented him from getting into a military academy. When the school failed to conduct any level of investigation and was ready to send him to Alternative School, we knew we need to act quickly but had no idea in which direction to turn. This is the education attorney you want and need! I was a teacher put on administrative leave and felt very lost and alone. I found Gozs website and called her. She was incredibly knowledgeable and experienced with what I was going through, and made herself available anytime I had questions or concerns. Goz has a very warm and comforting disposition, but she is no pushover! She was not at all intimidated by the large ISD I had worked for and was able to secure the best possible outcome for my situation. My case was referred to the TEA. The investigative process was daunting and I was VERY anxious. I cannot overstate enough how much it helped having Goz at my side during the investigation. My case was not heard until almost a year after it happened, and she was as familiar with the details of my case as I was, more so in some aspects! There is an old saying: Engineers hide their mistakes under concrete; lawyers behind bars; and physicians, 6 feet under. Yep. I have seen it all. Most lawyers (don t get me started with health professionals) I know are only interested in your money, not on your case, and certainly not on winning it or looking for the best outcome for you. I ve seen cases where they will drag the case for months or years until there is no more money left for you to give them, and then they will settle. They do this so they can keep your money flowing to their accounts for as long as they can, piling up billable hours and draining you out. Here is my take, and I really hope this will help you: As a starting educator I was told, long ago, I could benefit from having the ***** or the ********** on my side, so I could be protected from any legal trouble I could find along the way. Then I learned teachers in Texas have no right to unionize since this is a right to work state , so, as it seems, that organizations that offer to have your back are not really empowered, nor they can really help you as well as in right to unionize states. They might just be there, of course I could be wrong, to take (in affordable monthly installments) your money. Being the only possible real benefit they could provide some legal support and a lawyer to represent you, should the need arise. So this is more like legal insurance, but don t assume this lawyers got your back. After all you paid up front for services that might not be what you expected the day when it really counts. In the end, they just have arrangements with some law firms that might not care about your needs, or servicing you, and they might not, necessarily, being on your side. They got your money already, so what would they care about you? You are just a discounted-rate-prepaid type of customer. Anyway, let me go to point: After looking desperately for a good law firm and an honest attorney I found the right person and law firm: Goz Odediran and her law firm. She listened about my case, pay real attention to the details, asked me relevant questions and informed of my rights, expectations and possible outcomes. She did not ask for money up front, nor retainers, neither push me to sign a contract. She listened and I felt again as a person, so I could focus on the facts and my defense. I kept asking questions during the following days and she followed-up informing me With keen interest on what I have to say. Finally explained the way she worked and the involved costs. Everything that she promised delivered. Ms. Odediran was there for my every step of the way and we had intense discussions to litigate my defense. We did preparations for my hearing and she stayed with me, during and after it, providing me with legal strategies to make my case. My son was involved in an incident with his best friend at school from horseplay. The school didn t take into account the testimony of the other children who was witness to the incident that my son was involved in and they seem really determined with their assessment. With Goz s help and involvement, she advised us how to proceed in the hearing for the incident, what to say or not say to build a case for my son. She came prepared with prints of the school s policy and was very articulate in describing why my son s character from what information we had given her and of the incident proved that the course of action that the school was pursuing, my son didn t fit the bill of the school s policy for their course of action. If the school didn t change their mind, this could have affected my son s future and after countless calls with the school and feeling that they didn t really care to carefully examine what we had found out from the children that were involved, we retained Goz. First thing she told me is that the school will typically try to push the punishment that wasn t fit for the crime and will basically ignore our pleas, really resonated with me because that was what we went through. No matter how we explained and told them about the witnesses description of what happened, they seemed to want to continue the push to punish my son unfairly even though he wasn t the instigator. I am happy with the results because I don t think I would have gotten the school to listen to me without an attorney present. Before this incident, I had total faith in our school and their admins so if you think you can reason with the school regarding what you feel to be an unfair potential disciplinary action and the potential actions don t fit the crime and you feel that you are not being heard, then I would suggest to think twice about retaining an attorney and Goz is very familiar with the law and school s policy to help you fight it. The outcome from our hearing probably saved my son s future for college.

My son had an incident in school and the decision was upheld for him to attend DAEP (alternative school placement) even though it was his first disciplinary offense becuase he was being bullied by other students. In addition to this, my child has an IEP plan due to ADHD, so we had to have an MDR meeting to confirm whether my child s disability was a manifestation of his actions or the school failure to implement his IEP plan is what caused the action. I had the initial DAEP placement hearing without Attorney Goz because I thought it would be a conversation where I could talk to the administrators about my child s past disciplinary records, how well behave he usually is, and that he made a mistake. I had a rude awakening! The committee had simply made up their mind already and didn t really acknowledge my comments about my son and within a couple of hours, they emailed me a letter that said they upheld the recommendation and will be sending my child to DAEP. Knowing my child and how he doesn t thrive in changing environments, I knew this was a bad decision and knew that I needed to continue to advocate for him. I was lost, scared, and felt hopeless at that point. I started googling around for attorneys that would just hear my case so that I can better understand my rights. I then found Attorney Goz website and after reading her bio, I felt like she would understand my situation and would be the right fit to represent us as an educational attorney. I called and left her a message and within less than 24 hours she returned my call. She listened to the entire situation and immediately made me feel comfortable. She was realistic and never promised me that there would be a specific outcome BUT just her confidence and knowledge gave me a peace of mind. I was willing to retain her as our attorney to have her represent us as the MDR meeting. Once I retained her, she went to work right away and started asking for appropriate documents to build our case. During the meeting, I was in awe with her level of professionalism and presentation she provided to the committee that consisted of over 6+ individuals. The person that recommended my child for DAEP changed her mind about my child attending an alternative placement school after attorney Goz presented all the facts. There were two members of the committee that did not listen well to the presentation and voted against in favor of the school, but attorney Goz redirected them in a very tactful way and asked them to really consider her statements and the facts about the case and to not solely rely on an IEP or FIE plan that was completed well over two years ago. At the conclusion of the meeting, the committee voted in favor of us and will NOT be sending my child to alternative school! I promise you; they would not have come to this decision without having attorney Goz on our side. Attorney Goz also got the school to implement SEVERAL additional action items to ensure that my child thrives, and their behavior issues are addressed head on. You can tell that she genuinely cares about the education of students and is passionate about what she does. The meeting lasted well over an hour and at no time did she try to rush or make you feel like she had other things to do. I know I am sharing a lot of personal information and the reason that I am is because I know I won t be the last person that a school or district will try to take advantage of a child. They will come up with the decision to send them to alternative school because it s the easiest route to take. I would advocate to please do yourself a favor and ALWAYS get a second opinion. This was the best decision that I made for my child and I would refer anyone that I know to her. My overall experience was extremely positive. Regardless of the outcome, I would have felt the exact same way.

There are not enough words to express my gratitude for Goz! I reached out to Goz when I was wrongly accused of academic dishonesty at my university in Houston, TX. As a PhD student, this accusation was particularly scary, because academic dishonesty is taken so seriously in academia. Gozs team responded to me within one day and called me back as soon as they received my voice message. After one conversation, I knew that she was incredible, not only as a person but at her job. Goz is open minded, honest, direct, caring, and passionate about her work. She is an incredible listener, and she took detailed notes on everything having to do with my case. When we met after our first meeting, she remembered everything Id told her from before. We met for a bit over 2 hours altogether (she schedules meetings for one hour time slots, but during our second meeting, she let me stay on for a bit longer, venting and expressing my anxieties!). Goz patiently explained the entire hearing process to me and advised me about the next steps I should take. It is because of her that I found out I could obtain witness statements, provide video evidence and discuss past problems I had faced with the professor accusing me. Two days before my trial, she even walked me step-by-step through a mock hearing trial, where she listened to my opening statement and gave me advice. Goz never wavered in her belief and support in me, and this made me feel stronger on the day of my actual hearing. Additionally, Goz had the option of attending the hearing with me for a retainer fee, but because she values honest, she told me she believed I could win on my own. Ms Goz Odediran was a Godsend to my family. My 12 yr old daughter was expelled and had serious charges against her. My daughter is a straight A student. She even skipped 6th grade to go into 7th grade. She is a good kid. The school picked excerpts from different chats and took conversations out of context to try and prove my daughter made a terroristic threat to her school. At the time I never imagined that a school would have expelled a student over obvious banter between students. Never in my wildest dreams would think they would lie about what had really happened. When the school told me my daughter was expelled for a period of 5yrs, I did not know what to do. I found Ms Odediran thru her website. She called within the hour of me submitting my information. She immediately called school and handled getting discovery of all items relevant to my daughter s case. It was somewhat of a long process due to the school s incompetence. Long read but my real situation: I was accused of an honor code violation by a professor at a private university: cheating; use of outside resources on an online proctored exam due to excessive eye movement and gazing. I didn t know what to do other than find someone who did. I searched all Friday morning specifically for a lawyer who dealt with college students who were facing allegations of cheating. I called on Good Friday afternoon, spoke to a live person, and scheduled a consultation with Attorney Goz for the upcoming Monday. I was embarrassed and nervous having to make such a phone call and explain an event timeline of the allegation I was facing. But Goz put me at ease (Is that even such a possible feeling? I know that is what you re thinking if you are faced with a similar allegation). She was straightforward from the beginning to the end. She reassured me her thoughts aligned with mine as this allegation was ridiculous. She also told me about a recent case much like mine that her client won! After talking with Goz, I knew she was going to help defend and protect my interests and rights. An attorney was not allowed in an honor council hearing, according to university policy, which was even more frightening. Attorney Goz assured me that I would be ready to defend myself, even though I didn t believe that at first, as I was just anxious. She explained her plan of approach for the case and prepared me for it. Goz prepared all documents and a script for my presentation to the honor council. She composed a list of questions and responses if I was asked by the honor council. I emailed Goz many questions late at night (10:30 p.m. and later). She would always respond within 30 minutes. As my allegations were from online exams, the videos were made available to watch. I sent the videos to Goz, and she watched the videos (one test so many times as she knew the videos more than me (one test being 3 ½ hours and the other test being 2 ½ hours). I honestly didn t watch too much of the videos because I was not a fair judge of myself and couldn t make myself watch. Goz would have all the times in the exam videos that she was concerned about written down and discussed with me. I then watched those exact time frames that Goz prepared for me, making it easy for me, very helpful, and not so nerve-racking. She made it a simple task of uploading all documents for my presentation to the honor council as everything was labeled and to my liking. Goz met and emailed me each week checking in on me and for updates from university. Before the scheduled hearing (4 months later) Goz would meet with me 3 to 4 times a week and at any time. Goz had me fully prepared and confident to present my defense. When I was first accused, I knew I had to seek an education attorney for higher education students as I had no clue what to do or how to defend myself other than to say I don t know what I was looking at or I didn t cheat. Attorney Goz proved to the honor council I did not cheat. I was found NOT GUILTY with Goz doing all the behind-the-scenes work in this case as she could not be present. I appealed the professor s allegation of cheating. I was then accused of using an outside resource on a different exam that was 2 months previous by a different professor. This professor was accusing me of using an external device (phone) when in reality it was a light box. I sent the allegation letter and video to Goz. I now had TWO ALLEGATIONS against me. I obtained all necessary documents and pictures requested by Attorney Goz and she went to work. She let me know this was a tougher case therefore she made sure I had it all together. Goz knew how to respond to this 2nd allegation. Long story short, I was found NOT GUILTY of this allegation as well. Goz represented me on BOTH of my cases with the university I attended, a nursing school program. I was found NOT GUILTY in BOTH CASES from 2 different professors. I recommend ATTORNEY GOZ for any higher educational matter.

After I paid my fee, Goz jumped right in and took the reins and went to work. I was amazed at how fast the opposing party was contacted and the ball was rolling. Goz is very friendly, and caring and gets the job done. She stayed in contact, and I knew exactly what was taking place in the case. I knew she was working hard. The value of her service was top notch. I recommend her to help other teachers just like myself. In my eyes we won. Fighting for your rights as a professional teacher is what Goz is about. This powerful black women who is an attorney knows education law helped me to get results from the school district. She heard my situation through a 3rd party about my child being overlooked for 14 years, just to find out she has been carrying a disability that is effecting her more academically all this time and even more than ever, yet I was having challenges getting resources to help my child. This attorney took initiative to help me...I dont know too many attorneys that take the first step to help a stranger...so definitely 5 stars there.. She explained the law and clearly explained the steps to take to get results. Yes maam. It worked and the school district is fully aware that now I know my rights and position, and its the law for them to offer and even pay for resources to help my child with a disability.
