I was helped so much by Disability Rights of Texas. I was able to complete the Intake Process with ease, and speak with someone who demonstrated the knowledge to help me navigate a very difficult situation with my former employer. I was walked through processes for filing complaints with other state and federal agencys, as well as getting assistance with the TWC Vocational Rehabilitation program. I felt respected and cared for. I appreciated that I was treated with dignity the entire process. I would recommend reaching out to them, even if you are unsure if you qualify for help.

I am so amazed at their sincere involvement in my childs best interest! Disability Rights Texas and Mr. Terry Anstee have successfully fought and helped my special needs child to keep Medicaid for the last 10-11 years! They go above and beyond the call even called numerous times to check on my family following storms or health issues .. You should definitely give them a call, you ll be glad you did!

I contacted DRTX after running into roadblocks at Vocational Rehabilitation. My advocate Jeanie has been nothing short of phenomenal. She is kind, caring and a fierce advocate for me. There is no way I could accomplish half the stuff I have with DVR without her help. I worked with DVR in another state about 15 years ago and had similar problems and ultimately pushed into a job I was fired from. Perhaps if I had someone like Jeanie advocating for me back then my life would be remarkably different. If you are having trouble with DVR or another state agency, please do not hesitate to reach out to them to help you. That is what they are here for.

I approached them for help with a case where a medical clinic in my community was discriminating against me for not allowing me to have home visits, I did the research on my own I did most of the look up before I even approach them and they spent more time disproving my case than helping me, I dont know exactly what this organizations mission is but its obviously not helping people with disabilities, if they were there to actually help people with disabilities they would work diligently alongside the person to solve the issue and listen to them as to whats really going on, I dont like to be ugly so I will not try to be negative here, but what you need to do his work on trying to help people and not disprove people.

Millions of dollars are awarded to this organization from grants, yet they claim funds are limited. Please update your official mission statement and actual service(s) provided to reflect the truth. Stop blindsiding people in need of advocacy and support.

I will forever face the same mistreatment because there truly isnt access to help. Leading us to believe well be supported is neglectful and abusive. If only this were true... No other organizations have the sweeping access authority that P&As have. They make sure people with disabilities are treated equally, with dignity and respect and never have to face the same kind of mistreatment.

So far, its all smoke and mirrors. All talk, no action. P & A (protection & Advocacy) is actually Pretend & Annoy.

I met Cicely Reid, who named her position as Pro-Bono Coordinator for Disability Rights Texas. In one first meeting, she invalidated my reality of access to government funding, told me I was wrong about my experience, and then went on to attempt to silence me, telling me she didnt need to listen to me nor hear me tell her she was invalidating. I can not imagine that someone who has so much experience working with people with disabilities is going to be helpful when she can not listen to someones experience who has disabilities and instead gives unsolicited (and bad) advice, then tells them she doesnt want to listen anymore. Please, Disability Rights Texas, hire staff who can support the vulnerable people you serve. Hire staff who has the skill to listen to someone and doesnt need to lash out when they are told they were wrong or invalidating. Perhaps more emotional intelligence training is necessary. If you have a disability, dont go here, unless you want to be bullied.

Google wont allow me to have zero stars. This place is supposed to be full of compassion and empathy and a shining beacon of hope. Instead what you get is childish behavior that is tolerated by their senior staff members. And because its a non-profit Im guessing they arent accountable to anyone but themselves. The old adage seems appropriate here, you get what you pay for (or in this case what you dont pay for). While I dont have experience with other disability rights non-profits, you couldnt pay me to utilize the services (or lack thereof) from this place. So if you want to be kicked while youre already down, this is the place for you!

Disability Rights of Texas (DRtx) is a non profit organization that provides legal services to the disabled community. I worked with these attorneys for only 4 months and I didn t have to worry about anything! When my attorney was at the all she was able to do part of the litigation, she made sure that I was still going to be represented by an attorney through another organization. The attorneys and staff at DRtx are professional, reliable and extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They saved my life literally. I wish I could give 10 stars for everything they did.

Because this liberal, austin-based organization filed a lawsuit, my children may end up being forced to wear a mask at school. If masks are so effective, make YOUR children wear one rather than trying to muzzle mine.

How this place has 5 stars is beyond me, as I have no doubt its from employees who work there that are told just to rate it high for reasons. But let me explain the reality of the situation, and I hope somewhere out there someone can direct me to a disability services that can actually assist me. Maybe Im just in the wrong here, but let me explain. Im epileptic, Ive been through over 40 jobs in less than 8 years, terminated from every job due to an epileptic episode. I wasnt sure what to do, since losing a lot of jobs can blacklist you from all kinds of employment. I came here to the Disability Services to get some help (any help), as my health is become worse the more epileptic episodes I have. 4 months of talking to these people, and we havent even started Step 1. Constant calling, appointments always being canceled, being directed to workers who are on vacation and never told about their status even though everyone in the office is fully aware of said worker being away for a while yet I still have my calls transferred to these absent employees when anyone else could have helped at a more timely manner. The place is a huge joke and poorly, poorly organized. Perhaps being epileptic is not a disability and Im just being selfish. Maybe thats the issue? But I hear various people who are getting benefits from disability services for being epileptic only after losing about 3 jobs from it. So Im not sure what to believe. I understand my goals and what I need to do in order to work at a non-epileptic environment, however that requires skill-sets and education. I cant afford education because I cant keep a job... and Ive tried for 8 years and I continue to search because Ill fall further into debt if I dont continue. Thankfully, the internet is around so Im self taught in my skill-sets, but I need more feedback in regards to my work. I just hope this message warns those who are under going this establishment. Ive been treated very poorly here and Im just looking for any kind of help since my health is getting worse. There are areas I can be placed in so my health can becomes better... but I need help getting there. So if anyone reads this review, please guide those to the appropriate place so they get the help they need.
