We were so excited to get here a little after 6 p.m. to find that happy hour was still going on until 7 p.m. I was greeted immediately. Bar service, Sydney was great. We had apps then decided to share an entree. We told Sydney and she came out with our entree already split on 2 plates. That was so unexpected! We really appreciated that level of attention. My recent visit to Waterloo Ice House was nothing short of a nostalgic trip down memory lane, with its laid-back atmosphere and classic Texan vibe. As I walked in with my friends, we were greeted by the warm, inviting ambiance that Waterloo Ice House is known for. The vibe was casual, the kind of place where you can kick back, relax, and forget about the hustle and bustle of city life. The bar menu was extensive, but we were in the mood for something simple and classic. I ordered a large Lonestar on tap, the quintessential Texan beer. Theres something about a cold Lonestar that just hits differently, especially when it s on tap and served in a large, frosty glass. The first sip was refreshing, with its light, crisp taste and subtle hint of malt. It s not a beer that tries too hard just a straightforward, easy-drinking lager that s perfect for unwinding. My friends opted for Blue Moon and Dos Equis, both on tap. The Blue Moon, with its smooth, slightly sweet taste and hints of orange, was a hit. It s the kind of beer that pairs well with good conversation, its citrusy notes providing a refreshing contrast to the warm evening. The Dos Equis, with its crisp, balanced flavor and light body, was equally enjoyable. It s a beer that doesn t overpower the palate, making it a great choice for those who prefer something light and easy to drink. What struck me most about our visit was the sense of community that permeated the place. The staff were friendly, and there was a genuine sense of camaraderie among the patrons. After waiting 10 minutes for them to clean a table I had already watched them clean, I wanted to try some pancakes with my daughter and the pancakes were the worst I have ever had that I hadnt cooked myself, I almost wanted to spit out the first bite I took. The hot chocolate tasted like powdered packets with not enough powder so it was slightly bitter water with a hint of chocolate (which some people like I guess). The attitude of my server was great, I saw them helping a blind person which was nice to see, but they never came to check on us after the food arrived despite me putting my nearly full plate of pancakes on the edge of the table, and I saw them looking at it a few times after making eye contact while they were standing by the bar only 10 feet away and looking around the place. Needless to say, I wont be coming back here again, too expensive for gross or mediocre food and drink.

Waited 40 minutes for some really bland nachos with a few little cubes of dry chicken, way too much cheese, too many re-fried beans, and completely soggy (in the middle and dry on top) chips. The service here is the absolute worst. It wasnt even busy. This was lunch. Server never brought sour cream as asked, and waited until I was finished eating and ready to leave to refill my drink which had been empty for 30 minutes. An hour of my life wasted on terrible food and even worse service. How is this place still open? Im genuinely curious why people go here. What is the appeal?

At Waterloo Ice House in South Park Meadows. A quick lunch before heading to see my brother-in-law at the rehabilitation center. My criticism of this place was when I ordered Sprite for drinks but ended up with a nasty taste it wasn t Sprite even my husband tasted it, it was disgusting. Then on the main course, I had chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans with bacon. But the mashed potatoes tasted like just made from the box and the green beans had a weird smell and were overcooked. looked like came from a can, not freshly cooked. Then as we finished eating hubby asked for a sweet tea to go but the waitress gave him the unsweetened tea. Hubby wasn t happy at all. Got takeout food, unfortunately it was pretty poor quality. Got fish & chips, the food literally stank when I opened it. Worst French fries Ive eaten in my life, difficult to even describe them - tough but flaky, oily, clumpy. Ive had mediocre fries, but never ones that were actively bad - again, they stink. Fried fish was fine but again oily, bulky, and over-fried. I would describe as mildly edible. Got a side of mac & cheese that was super bland as well. I added some salt/pepper/paprika while I was back home and it tasted decent, so it seems the food isnt really seasoned. Might have just been a bad batch for a couple items, but what a disappointing meal. IIts hard to accept that French fries can be so awful that I cant even salvage them with seasoning & sauces. Had to throw them away. Worst fish & chips Ive ordered in my life, worst fries as well.

We just finished having breakfast, on a Wednesday morning, so the place was pretty empty (read the end to understand why I say this). We ordered Texas All Star, Fried Steak and two coffees. I don t even know where to start describing this bad experience.. The only thing good about this place is that portions are pretty big, but at what cost?! The food we ordered wasn t that good, might as well cook at home. The biscuit tasted as if they warmed it up in the microwave after it got soggy, and then served it after it got cold. The eggs were bland. The gravy was super peppery and overall didn t taste good. The worst part about all of this was the server, a blond short lady. Now, I understand there are bad days, but when you re in the service industry like this one, you need to be able to AT LEAST smile at the customers. Especially considered it was not a busy morning. When she showed us the device to pay on (she didn t handed it to us) she was looking if we were giving a tip or not. We didn t want to give a tip but felt REALLY forced to do so. The food was definitely overpriced for the quality of it. We ended up spending $50 for mediocre breakfast! I m never coming back again.

This is a wonderful place to eat. Great breakfast lunch and dinner. My favorite breakfasts are the avocado toast and the chicken and waffles. Yum. (Theres a fantastic playground and outdoor seating area for my fellow parents out there. Only caveat for that is theres no fence around the playground so you gotta keep a sharper eye on the littles. ) Its also a stones throw from Amys Ice Cream. We go here often. Kid-friendliness: Great newly renovated playground, good options for kids menu, nice and casual atmosphere. Theres no fence around the playground so you have to watch the younger kiddos.

While the food looked good, i was a touch unhappy that that fries tasted stale/old. I was there around 5pm, the location was busy, but was still sat right away. I was with 4 other people. 2 of us had the chicken strips, they were good but could have used some kind of seasoning on them. The sweet potato fries were really good. The cream gravy needed seasoning as well. The other two people with me had the chicken fried steak and both liked that the mashed potatoes did not taste like they were boxed. The service and atmosphere are really great but the food is pretty subpar. We ordered the chips and dip where the queso tastes like a melted block of velvetta and guacamole has no flavor (no lime or salt). We also got a spicy margarita, which felt like a throat punch for how hot it was, and a blackberry margarita that tasted like straight blackberry syrup for how sweet it was. Had breakfast here today. My husband and I got chicken and waffles and a biscuits and gravy. The chicken and waffles were the BEST! Crispy tendy fried chicken tenders and the waffles was soft and fluffy it was soooo good. It came with a cinnamon butter that kicked it up a little and the biscuits and gravy were good also. Host needs a bit more training or some help on a Saturday morning. She seemed scared and flustered by a wait that wasn t that serious. She was kind, but did not put us on the wait list when we arrived, instead told us Let me seat some other people and then I ll be right with you. We waited patiently (party of 2) while she did this and in the mean time several other parties walked in. When she returned she proceeded to add the other parties to the wait list and then asked me if she had added us. I said no and she added me to the bottom of the waitlist. She sat the few other parties before us, which I admit, was pretty frustrating. With some better training and organization up front this could have been easily avoided. The food is always delicious at Waterloo and our server was absolutely wonderful. The staff in general is always very kind and accommodating. Best Burger in Austin. Worst fries on the planet. If you want to improve your fries buy the square ones from Sysco and fry them in clean peanut oil. The ones I was served were a soggy mess that tasted like cardboard. Food : 3/5

I wish I could remember our server s name (Aisley? The redhead scorpio!) she was phenomenal. I ve been in the industry for a decade and I appreciated everything she did for my mom s birthday. Our table was obnoxious and quite a lot but she still made it feel so special and bossed it!!!

Hostess seemed like she didnt want to be at work. Server was great. Very friendly. Fried pickles had brown (old) oil in the basket. Patty melt was a burger patty on rye bread. Pay didnt even cover all the bread. It was flavorless. Tater Tots were fried in the same old oil as the pickles.

I am jus a country boy at heart. I like to take my wife out at least once a week to eat dinner. We enjoyed hills cafe until they closed the doors. I really missed there chicken fried steak, until last night. Thats what I ordered at Waterloo and it was perfect. So now we have a new regular place to go and eat and catch up on sports . Food is always delicious no matter what you order. Prompt, friendly service. Laura, great service and anticipates requests before you ask. David made a very delicious spinach, mushroom, bell pepper and tomato omlette. My favorite breakfast location.

This is by far our favorite restaurant in south park meadows. Weather its breakfast, lunch or dinner menu choices. The food and drinks are always on point. The staff here is Amazing. From the looks of it you can tell they are one big family. We had a new waitress tonight Azaley and she was the sweetest and checked on us consistently to make sure we had everything we needed. I would like to give a huge shout out to the store manager Brad you have been the store manager here for years and each time we have came in you always make it appoint to tell us hi. You add that personal touch to the restaurant business and I see you insteal this in your employees. Thank you for all you do. You make SPM Waterloo what it is today !!

We came on a Sunday afternoon around 2 and were seated immediately. Family friendly. Good options on kids menu and even comes with a desert for them. Atmosphere is really cool. Great place to watch football or having lunch with friends. Really great food as well. We had the Texas Philly (husband said it was amazing) and the Waterloo Migas. 1 AMAZING 2 breakfast is served all day, so that s a win in my book. I love when I can breakfast at anytime. We will definitely be back.

BF and I had brunch here and it was awesome. The servers were awesome, attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful with my questions (I have a lot of allergies). The food was delicious and I didn t get sick because they followed my request to leave out the seasoning that I was allergic to. If you need gluten free, don t forget to let them know, the gluten free menu is separate from the main one. They also have lots of vegetarian options and I think with some creativity you could find a decent amount of vegan options. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options, a few vegan ones and they re willing to make substitutions on a lot of things so you can probably come up with more vegan options with a little creativity. Dietary restrictions: Can accommodate allergies and gluten free. I feel safe eating here with my allergies because the staff is knowledgeable about ingredients and I have never been sick after eating here. The gluten free menu is separate, make sure to let the server know if you need it.

I came here for breakfast. The food was tasty and they have very large portions (you can see how big they are in the picture. I was half way through here). The homemade biscuit was yummy, as well as the the spinach and mushroom omelette and home fries I got. It was your basic breakfast, but everything tasted good. Mimi, my waitress, was a sweetheart and very attentive.
