The first Waterloo Ice House opened its doors on Congress Avenue in 1976. It was casual neighborhood gathering spot serving hot, handmade meals and ice cold beer for an eclectic mix of Austin business people, students, artists and musicians. Over the years, Waterloo has become a place for whole family entertainment, including playscapes for kids, game rooms, flat screen TVs for watching various sporting events, large outdoor patios and full bars. There are now four Waterloo locations, which include the location at 360 and 2222, Burnet Road and 183, Escarpment Village, and Southpark Meadows. Waterloo Ice House still embodies that Hill Country spirit of gathering with friends and family for a cold beer and spending time together eating, la...

September 2024 Waterloo Ice House Escarpment is very family friendly where can enjoy casual food and playground. The adults can sit in the bar where always enjoy excellent service. I am a regular here and always have a great experience. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with Hand-Cut French Fries. It was a large sandwich and was good. The place is always kept clean and sports are always being show on the TVs. May 2023 The annual crawfish boil returns and this year have two options; either buy one plate (about 1 pound) or all-you-can-eat. You also had an option to add a link of sausage. There was also a polka band playing the in the covered patio area. The place was packed and even arrived early. The wait was about 30 minutes to be seated. My wife and I each ordered a plate and one with sausage. The crawfish was spicy and despite all the work to break the tails open it tasted good. It Included two small potatoes and a small corn on the cob. It was all fun and had a great time.

What a great establishment in South Austin. I know from friends that have lived here for a long time that this place is a long time staple in the Austin area even though this is an expansion store and not the original in North Central Austin. Its bar food but it is a little bit better and definitely on the upper end of what you typically would expect. All the fried food is exceptional and has the perfect amount of breading and is fried to a Golden crisp. The tater tots and the breakfast items are also very well done. So many options to choose from I dont think youll be disappointed!

I took my grandkids there for dinner today. The fries were so dry and cold, probably overcooked and sitting in the kitchen too long. Me and my granddaughter have tried only a few of them and decided to give up the fries. It was horrible. This is probably the worst experience that I ever had in my whole life.

This place is really good. This is the third time we ve been here and the food is good all the time. This time our waiter was Cole. He was a trainee but so friendly and polite. We always get the cheddar cheese queso fries and it s really good. Last time for main course I had a veggie Sammie and my husband had a grilled chicken sandwich. This time I had a Swiss patty melt substituted with garden patty and my husband had the crispy chicken sandwich. The food is always good. They have a great dining area and a lot of seating options. They also have a great outdoor seating area. A great place to celebrate a special occasion or even just chill out with friends. Will we definitely back soon. Vegetarian options: They have 5 or 6 Vegetarian dishes and also a veggie patty or beyond burger patty. They also have Breakfast served all day. So perfect for eggetarians and vegetarians too.

Finally tried this place and, unfortunately, I completely regret it. Ordered an Old Fashioned Cheeseburger and an order of onion rings. By far one of the worst burgers I have ever tasted. I dont know what the cooks were feeling tonight, but half the bun was soaked through completely wet, and that wasnt the worst part as I am hoping that I dont get sick. It had absolutely zero flavor and looked like itd seen better days. No flavor, to the point that you couldnt even taste salt. It was disgusting, I maybe finished 1/5th of it. The onion rings were no better. Mashed up breading with zero flavor at all. I mean, not even adding any salt? I not only feel ripped off for paying $20 for this, but I am hoping I dont get sick. Dont bother reaching out, I dont want a refund or anything - Please step up your game so other people dont have the same experience - Waste of my time, money, and night, as I will now just head to the grocery store, which is what I should have done in the first place. No thanks, Waterloo.

Waterloo is a great go-to place for standard American eclectic fare. From burgers to breakfast and Chicken Fried Steaks to full blooded cocktails, they have you covered for any hankering. I find myself going here about three to four times a month. My main choice of dinner entree is the Chicken Fried Chicken. For breakfast, I choose the scrambled eggs and biscuits with gravy. The biscuits, I should note, are huge and hearty; basically a meal in themselves. I can confidently state that 90% of the time Waterloo is spot-on with quality dishes, clean atmosphere and friendly wait staff. However, on this particular visit, my companion ordered poached eggs that were served under cooked, which was a rare error. Now you may say that poached eggs are supposed to be runny, but they should not resemble egg yolk soup! This small glitch in the system is easy enough ignored, though, in the long run. The restaurant also does well with catering to children, they have an attached playscape and playground area. Stop by for a weekend brunch on the patio and let your children run and play off all that excess energy while you watch from the table sipping on your favorite libation. Enjoy! Chicken Fried Steak review - nice breading to meat ratio with thin but crispy crust. The meat was medium tender, a knife was required but there was no chewiness to the meat. The cream gravy was lumpy, but I requested gravy on the side so it was not a deal breaker. Go with the mashed potatoes and a side salad. The cilantro lime dressing is tasty too. Chicken Fried Chicken: stopped in for a quick lunch and this dish was perfectly prepared and delicious. I preferred the chicken to the steak. The baked potato was also done perfectly today. Topped off with a cilantro ranch side salad and a friendly and attentive server made for a fantastic lunch.

Food is good, live in the neighborhood but frequently order delivery. Writing this because 3rd time I got wrong order. No its not my favor driver I triple checked this time. Its the restaurant. The chicken fried steak is very good with gravy, green beans old school with excellent flavor. Mash potatoes if you get them... are good. Each order has been switched from madh potatoes to waffle sweet potatoes fries and typically the steaks in person are not the same size as delivery. Small and your sides are just a suggestion... Recommend restaurant treats to go orders same as in person and stop substituting sides. I dont like waffle fries ! Also add a pie on your to go menu please! Can call it luck of they pie pie! Like them all!

Seems they lack communication skills. We went an hour before closing - so we weren t planning on staying too long. By the time our food came out we were ready for a second round of drinks. They brought out an incorrect order, so they started to remake it. 10 minutes later we asked to cancel the remake and drinks since they didn t bring out the the next round of drinks and we learned we really needed to wrap it up. There was a back and forth of what exactly we wanted to cancel while they kept bringing out the drinks and food we weren t going to be able to finish. All in all they sent us home with a beer and the remake. They were very nice about it. I tried the fried catfish the next day and it was not good. So much breading The spicy boneless aren t spicy. Again the batter was thick. The jalapeño poppers are mostly cheese and not spicy $5 frozen margs need a couple shots - they might be virgins (?) The ranch is good.

Pros: Nice area, near by to some parks. Nice, well lit interior. Cons: Food was mediocre, service was slow, chairs were uncomfortable and tables crowded together. Tl;dr: Not worth a visit, would not go to again.

Please teach staff how to pour a Guinness. I was told that pouring it properly was a gimmick . Obviously use to pouring Miller Lite. Please educate.

Friendly staff and the food came out really quickly. Excellent place for brunch and very family friendly (there s a play place out back for children) with tons of seating for large groups. I ve never had much of a wait here and always enjoy stopping by.

I keep having my review taken down because its negative. My experience with Waterloo has not been good, I ordered takout 3 times and had a waiter very condescendingly tell me where the pickup section as if I shouldnt have bithered asking. I was stopped and was told I hadnt paid for my food, which I did online. Very bad service service here and will not come back, I suggest you do the same.
