I recently wrapped up the Sketch Comedy Writing Class and honestly it was a blast. Dave Buckman knows his stuff, but what made the class great was the mix of solid teaching and the chill vibe of the sessions. Dave covered all the essentials - how to set up a joke, build characters, and structure a sketch. There is no fluff, just useful, practical stuff. I liked that he didn t just lecture; he got us writing and experimenting from day one. The class itself was a cool bunch. Everyone had different backgrounds and ideas, which meant loads of exciting perspectives. It wasn t just about Dave teaching us; we also learned a lot from each other. The atmosphere was laid back no pressure, just sharing ideas and many laughs. By the end of the course, I felt like I d learned a lot about comedy writing and had a great time doing it. If youre thinking about trying your hand at comedy writing, this class is a solid choice. Youll learn a lot and have a good laugh along the way.

ColdTowne is REOPENING at 1700 E 2nd St in November! Yay! **** While ColdTowne lost their space on Airport Blvd for now you can still take improv, sketch, and standup classes! And If your workplace is interested, they also offer rad corporate workshops in teambuilding, diversity equity and inclusion, and more from hilarious local comedians! I cannot recommend ColdTowne Theater and Conservatory more highly. I took my first class here 5 years ago and little did I know I would be introduced to an amazing community of people who I now count among my best friends; receive top notch comedic training from instructors who are some of the leading improvisors in the country; and get over my fears of auditions and find the fun in performing - and eventually direct and produce shows too! The ColdTowne community is what I want Austin to be - inclusive, kind, and joyful. My life is different in the best way today because I tried a Level 1 class five years ago - so take a leap!

First time at an improv show live, wasnt sure what to expect. The vibe of the theater was perfect for the location, patrons, and show. A small theater, about 50 seats, where you are in their face. We saw live boy who was decent, had a good flow. I liked the combined story mixed with the improv. The opening act wasnt as smooth but they are openers for a reason. Real austin theater crowd.
