One of the best meals in Austin I ve had. We got the fried chicken and rice, shrimp etouffe, gumbo, corndog and beignets. The texture and flavor of the fried chicken were perfect. I especially loved the rice that came with the dishes. The corndog and its breading was a nice twist on a classic. The drinks were also amazing, not too sweet and you could barely taste the alcohol. Plus, amazing staff!

So good I don t want to tell anyone about it. Absolutely perfectly cooked Cajun eats with convenient ordering before you sit. We had the corn dogs, fried chicken on rice, the pulled pork po boy, and the beignets. I also had a hurricane (imo a must have at a Cajun place). The corn dogs are like the best drive thru corn dogs of my childhood. The fried chicken is perfectly cooked with a thin, crispy breading and juicy meat. The po boy bread and pork were crispy without being greasy and the slaw balances it out the way only a chef with a great palette can. And if I m honest I ll probably drive across town just to order those freaking beignets on the regular. One of my favorite Austin finds in a year or two. Will be back!

Wow, what a find. The quaint and beautiful spor has an interesting take on Southern comfort food. I enjoyed the red beans and rice. The best part was the scratch bar with new spins on classic cocktails and mocktails. Take a minute to unburden yourself at the confession box in the center of the bar. Yes. Ill visit again.

Seriously the only reason I am leaving this review is because the service provided by Travis was so freaking amazing!! He totally made our evening!! All the staff were great we had the most interaction with Travis though. Honestly my personal experience with the food was really meh, wasn t bad but I wouldn t have left a review for the food alone. Bread pudding wasn t bread pudding at all, rice was dry and black-eyed peas were undercooked, hot sauce was not hot or flavorful sadly enough Again, we had a great time due to the service and ambience created by the staff just wouldn t rate it highly for Cajun food except that it felt like quality ingredients.

Update 07/2024: this is one of our favorite dinner spot in town for sure! We ve been visiting Vic&Al s pretty often in the past two years, and took so many of our friends there. Tonight we just had the best dinner dish, so good that I have to update this review, braised pork shank with mashed potatoes and garlic bread. The pork shank is so tender and flavorful and just melt in my mouth. The sauce goes well with mashed potatoes and garlic bread. The jalapeño is also a great addition to the dish, a small bite of that every now and then is exactly what it needed in a meaty dish like this. Not to mention everyone is always so friendly at the restaurant! If the food is 5/5 I ll give 6/5 for the service. Cannot recommend more! Original (2022): We had dinner at Vic and Al s. What can I say it s like someone s grandma cooked for us! The fried chicken dish was great and very balanced flavor, chicken is so moist! Loved the crawfish etouffee! If you are looking for tasty comfort food, fun cocktail and lovely ambient, that s the place! Looking forward to be back again.

The shrimp and grits was good and really rich. The gumbo was a little disappointing, for as many spices as they display, I wish they made more magic with the rue. Also, the beans and rice weren t flavored at all just salty. I was looking forward to both having more play on spice. Isn t that what Cajun food is known for ? Parking: Could be difficult to find parking on busier night bc they share parking lot with Dai Due.

Amazing Cajun restaurant in Central Austin. Nice decor, friendly service, and delicious food. A unique concept where you order with a concierge and open a tab, then order your drinks with a bartender, and sit at a table of your choice while they bring your food. I had the special for the day the Crawfish Etoufee. Not the best Ive had but scratched my Louisiana boy cravings just fine. Everything is scratch made down to the hot sauce I asked for. Patio has aggressive misters for the hot summer and is dog friendly

Service was great from start to finish. In was greeted when I came in the door. Staff explained the specials as well as their everyday menu. The location is great; however, it wouldve been easier to find had there been a sign in the front of the building. It is located in a suite of a building with other shops and restaurants. The interior looked very pleasing and the setup was relaxing. The food was nice. Surprised that the fried chicken and rice had as much kick as it did. The glaze that it came with was great overall. Everything was seasoned pretty generously to say the least. The portion sizes were nice and the price wasnt out of the norm. I wish the non-alcoholic drink list was slightly more diverse, but the drink I got did the job. Parking: The parking was fine for the time of day I came. It was plentiful. I would again recommend a sign stating the location is there but there seemed to be plenty parking in the back.

Weve been to Vic & Als a few times now, and Im always so impressed. The indoor space is intimate, but manages to not feel cramped. They have TONS of outdoor seating to supplement. The staff seem to work together so seamlessly and proactively provide info and guidance. The food is always fresh, tasty and well priced. The drinks (they have great cocktails and mocktails) are inventive and highlight their house made ingredients. The aesthetic and vibe are immaculate - great for a date night or casual meal with friends. Well definitely be coming back and bringing friends! Edit to add kudos to the team: The people that work there are phenomenal. This restaurant is delicious, but its the people that really complete the experience. Highlights include: Danny (and every bartender here) is a great bartender. She gave us amazing recommendations, answered our questions and was an absolute treat to chat with. Travis is a lovely person, helpful, kind, funny and so knowledgeable about the restaurant. Riley always has great recommendations, and guides you through the menu like a pro. Everyone Ive encountered here made me feel welcome and you can tell they like to work here.

So whenever we road trip to Austin!, we always stop here, as its my oldest sons favorite or used to be, as on this trip the two servers were just so unpleasant. We did drinks and waited for our table and after seated, shortly after food was served and one of us didnt get her food..we had to ask and with that no apologies and after that we were offered the bill by both servers without being served the bread pudding we were waiting for. They were more interested in getting us out for a table, than for giving good service. With popular places there can be a downfall also as they tend to think too much of themselves and forget the importance of good service. Very disappointed

Travis gave us the biggest welcome and instantly made sure my friends and I were taken care of. His energy alone would make anyone want to come back. He checked on us throughout the entire visit and made sure we felt comfortable and had everything that we needed. He is so knowledgeable about the menu items and did an excellent job answering all of our several questions. He gave great recommendation and they did not disappoint. Ben was our bartended and made the most amazing drinks. He had such a positive attitude and took the time out to talk to us to determine what drinks he felt would suit our individual pallets. The entire staff made us feel at home and everyone was so professional and kind. We ordered just about one of everything on the menu, because everything we ordered initially made us want to try more, and it seriously was all amazing. There is no way you can go wrong with anything you order. This chef knows what the heck they are doing back there! We came to Austin to visit from Houston and we are literally planning another trip back soon just to eat here again! We all ordered food to go and made sure to strap in the precious cargo to be able to enjoy more of it in Houston. If you go, be sure to ask for Ben and Travis. The staff was so sweet and down to earth. The food was so delicious ,and so was the atmosphere . It s definitely going to be one of our new favorite spots !!

The first thing you smell when you walk in here is the wood fired oven behind the counter. The baguette they use is crisped to perfection. The bartender is enthusiastic and entertaining to order from. Prices are very fair and pretty big portions for the size in Austin I think. Pregnant wife definitely wants to come back. We will be back a party of three.

Even though most of the dishes arent traditional Cajun food, their take on it with a unique twist to each dish is fantastic! They use the freshest ingredients, and my favorite dish (chicken thigh with sassafras rice) is so delicious and consistent every time. I highly recommend this spot to anyone who loves Cajun food (and spice)!

One of the best spots in Austin! Cute, quaint & a well done concept. Vic & Al s has never once disappointed me or any of the guests I have brought. The staff is extremely friendly, the food is made with care & technique and the portions are amazing for the price! Please stay this way!! Even when you become big and have a 2 hour wait, keep doing what you re doing, it is appreciated!! Update: went tonight with our 14 month old and again I want to thank this place for always being incredible. Service was quick and Katherine made the whole experience even better. She went out of her way the entire time to stop by and play peekaboo and be silly with my daughter. By the end of our meal she was looking for her and covering her eyes to play with her. It was adorable. Small gestures like this you may not even think about but it makes a dining experience for parents with young children so much less stressful when servers don t treat you like you re inconveniencing them (which is sadly often our experience elsewhere) Thanks again and we ll always be back!

the food itself wasn t bad; I liked the beignets and fried chicken. my wife said her vegetarian meal, mushrooms and greens, was OK. my gripe, unfortunately, is with the service and pricing. we waited a total of 30 minutes from the time we ordered our to-go meal to the time we got our meal. I had to go ask about the meal, it seemed, in order for it to finally get to us. we watched people who came in after us get their meals sometimes with the same thing. also: consider closing tabs automatically on to-go orders! may try again on a slower day.

Super cool that they change the menu daily. I really wanted to try their fish, but they said they sold out due to the crowds from the eclipse? My family and I dined family style. We got gumbo, grilled shrimp on top of greens, meatloaf, and fried chicken ending with beignets. The food was really good. I wasn t fan of how they run service. We ordered everything at once. They have servers walking around, but they don t physically check on you just look at you. Had to track down a server to get the beignets even though we had already ordered them and finished our meal. I enjoyed the food, the service was ehh.

The ambiance was spectacular, and the food was definitely great with a minimal wait time. To our surprise their was a custom juice bar. The only issue was parking and some of the staff being subjective to bikers. The only thing that ruined it for me was a large over charge to my bank account and the establishment taking no accountability. I shouldnt have to take this to small claims court when it can be corrected. My party was around 14 people. Parking: Very horrible parking, not motorcycle friendly, we were initially told to leave if we couldnt park.

We tried again the next day, I got the cat fish over salad and my friend got cat fish over rice. Food was tasted great, portion size was just perfect. We got the food takeout, the place was packed on a Saturday. Would definitely go back. Service was great, worked with my allergens.

Was in Austin to celebrate a birthday. It was suggested to go to Vic & Als. No one in our party had ever been. We will defintely be back! It was a Friday evening and decided to sit at the bar and loved the interaction and the personal service - Ben & the guys were awesome. All the cocktails and samples that we had, along with the food we ordered was outstanding. I spent a number of years in the restaurant business and my expectations are very high. They were exceeded with the experience we had. next time we visit from Houston we will make sure and go back.

WARNING, YOU COULD BE OVERCHARGED. We only drank water and we were charged for alcoholic cocktails that we never ordered. Scrutinize your receipt. They use a system of putting your credit card on a tab even for restaurant service and probably charged someone elses drinks to our tab. Whoever ordered a sidecar and a light drizzle on our tab, youre welcome. If you already know and like Cajun food, you will be disappointed because this is nothing like actual Cajun food. Also, the blackened catfish was a tiny piece of fish and felt like a ripoff. The red beans and rice were a bizarre salad and not the Cajun red beans and rice you might be craving. We were struggling to get service to our table and had to get up to talk to the waiter multiple times to finally get a bread pudding that was a hard, fried blob unlike any bread pudding. They were nice enough to remove the charge for inedible bread pudding that we wasted time waiting for.

Advertises as a Cajun restaurant. No real seafood to speak of. The gumbo is more akin to green chili soup than gumbo. The red beans and rice was lukewarm. Id been hearing about this place for a while and expected a little, hole-in-the-wall Cajun restaurant. I was surprised when I walked in and saw about 50 mini chandeliers and a nice cocktail bar! Some friends and I stopped by before catching a play across the street and all enjoyed our food. The six of us got several different dishes including the Cochon de Lait Po Boy, Jambalaya, Corn Dogs, and Blackened Fish with Greens. There wasnt a bad dish in the bunch. My boyfriend and I split the Po Boy and Jambalaya (both pictured). The meat on the po boy was super tender and tasty. We both thought it was a good bread to filling ratio. I loooooved the jambalaya. It had chicken, shrimp, and sausage in it and was really flavorful and well cooked. We all had a few cocktails of which I cant remember at this moment. :D Service was friendly and fast which was nice since we were in a time crunch. Overall, the dinner was great albeit a teeny bit pricier than I expected. I look forward to coming back to try more dishes.

We originally were here for brunch but brunch was not served on Mondays. I ordered the fish dish with red beans and rice, but unfortunately, the rice was cold and the red beans were hard and tasteless. When I asked to close my tab, (less than five minutes after the food came out) the worker didnt inquire about my experience. Normally in the service industry you are asked how was everything. Despite paying in full, I expressed my dissatisfaction, but the workers response seemed indifferent/nonchalant. Overall, I was disappointed with both the food quality and the lack of attentive customer service. Maybe we should have came on brunch as this may be whatever one loves. Disappointed and now headed to another place.

Not Cajun but sort of trying I guess? The gumbo and boudin? balls were very one note and over seasoned with the wrong flavors, too much sage I think; not so much boudin. The bread pudding isnt. More like fried cinnamon cake balls (good though) on a layer of apple sauce? WTH? Replace the apple sauce with vanilla ice cream and youve got something! Drinks were good. Smallish place, noisy when 80% of the seats are taken. They need some sound absorption in place. Probably wouldnt go back to eat.
