Be careful, when they weight the meat they also weight your corn/side dishes and charge you more for the meat price. Pretty scammy behaviour. Beef ribs tasted meh and a lot of fat. Too expensive for what it is.

Delicious barbecue. Choose your meat type and quantity (BBQ mans recommended quantity was perfect). Choose your sides/drinks. Pay at the till. Bread, pickles, BBQ sauce, and mexican beans all included and self serve. Eat! Much better barbeque, experience, and environment than the ironworks.

A bit overpriced but delicious. Brisket and pork ribs are soo good but the beef ribs are dry, salty, and unevenly cooked through. Note that the chopped beef is not in the smoker case, its in the hot foods case. The BBQ sauce and to a lesser extent the mashed potato salad is overwhelmingly vinegar. I did like the beans that are free on the side and the peach cobbler. Skip the beef ribs, the banana pie, grilled corn, ribeye, Mac and cheese. Get the pork ribs and some Fatty brisket, peach cobbler then go to the self service bar and get a side of pickles, beans, and bread. Order less than you think. You can always order more. BBQ is always better hot anyway.

We were excited to try this place out given all the 5 star reviews, but unfortunately this was definitely the worst BBQ of all the places we tried in Texas The brisket was both really dry and really fatty, and the chicken was very average - The apple cobbler and ice-cream were decent though. We also got some green beans and whilst they were fine, they weren t great. There is some stuff that you get complimentary that other places may charge you for (bread, pickles, beans), but even with that this was just as expensive as other BBQ joints and just no where near as good quality If you re limited on time/money whilst visiting Austin, I d probably say save your money and head to Terry Blacks over the river instead.

This was our first stop on our bbq tour and it was great to set a standard of what Texas smoked brisket and charcoal crisp beef ribs were all about. 3lbs for about $100 is a little high in price but I assume all this is standard for post pandemic inflation prices.

The sirloin was terrible and flavorless and overpriced. The turkey was good, but in no city or circumstance, can you justify this as a $70 meal. I had really high expectations after reading so many great reviews. I made sure to try a bit of everything. Pork rib could have been cooked longer. Beef rib was too salty. beans was self served, and also too salty. Brisket was good. Chicken okay, Sausage was good, kinda salty, but its expected. Mac and cheese lack luster. Cornbread was good. The saving grace was the cobbler I had both peach and pecan. Could have been an off day for them. Id like to try it again and see what they really have to offer. I went to Coopers yesterday, and it was an absolute disaster. Theyve completely lost their touch. The pork sausage had a downright rancid taste, like it had been left out for days. The BBQ sauce was revolting, as if someone thought adding a gallon of lemon juice was a good idea. The potato salad was disgusting, with a strong metallic aftertaste that made it inedible. To top it off, the beans had a weird, chemical-like plastic flavor that left me feeling nauseous. This place has gone downhill fast. Every time I go, I hope for some improvement, but its clear that the food just keeps getting worse. I m done giving them chances Ill never set foot in this place again.

My significant other and I are foodies and was very disappointed how salty the ribs was and potato salad. Please know we are from Houston, and we know what bbq supposed to taste like. Ribs were tender, but make sure you have a beverage behind it to wash it down. The peach cobbler was delicious. We also had the green beans, which wasnt bad. Parking was challenging. We informed the manager and he told us it could be the side of rib cut. No sir, we disagree. He didnt give us another rib to taste. By that time, I didnt want anymore salt in my life. Dont think we coming back to this establishment. Sincerely Disappointed Houstonian Foodie

This is a great spot to go hang out and eat, especially if you have a large group of people. They werent very busy when we got there. Staff is some of the sweetest ever. They answered all my questions and helped in every way. We really enjoyed the atmosphere. The decor really screams BBQ joint, and we liked the cafeteria style ordering. My husband really liked the Pinto beans, and I think the highlight of everyones meal was the ribs. They were so good! The brisket was just ok for us. Weve definitely had better in TX. The sausage was also just ok. We also tried the pork skewer, and that was ok. Everyone enjoyed the cornbread and the green beans. The potato salad was too salty to eat. The mac&cheese was ok. Maybe its just me, but it reminded me a lot of Stouffers mac&cheese. So I guess if you like that, then this would be right up your alley. Not my type of mac&cheese. Two of us got the baked potato, and it was not edible. The outside was super tough, it was dry inside and over peppered. So overall, the food was mostly ok with ribs being the highlight.

Cruising into Austin, the Fat Man and his wife wanted some real-deal Texas BBQ. So, we headed over to Cooper s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que. Cooper s is a classic BBQ joint with picnic table seats serving brisket, ribs & more pulled straight from the pit. We tried the Beef Ribs to start. They were tender and had good bark and flavor. They were dense, but the sauce they were dunked in coated them better than any other option we tried. Next up was none other than the Texas Brisket. The meat was tender, juicy, and fatty in a good way with great flavor some of the best brisket I have ever had. The BBQ sauce was very thin but flavorful, with a little sweet and then a tomato vinegar hit. You have the option of dry or wet when ordering. We got wet on everything. I wanted to try the Sausage. It had a good snap on the casing with a great chew in the meat. The heat builds over time from the spices in the sausage mixture. We also tried several sides with our meal. The noodles in the Mac and cheese were cooked perfectly, creamy, cheesy, and ooey gooey. The cheese sauce was flavorful, with just a little pepper and a good salt level. The Potato salad was mashed, not cubed, with a heavy mustard kick, and the red peppers gave it some texture. Their green beans were tender with some heat on the back end. They were cooked with bacon but could still use salt. The cornbread was moist and fluffy but a little dense. It did have a great sweetness and good texture. Cooper s is a counter service where you order everything offered from the pit and select your hot or cold sides. They offer several different types of meats, cuts, and amounts. They also serve beer and alcohol. The servers were nice, but it can be overwhelming because of how fast the ordering happens. The Fat Man says that Cooper s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que is Fat Man Approved with 3 chins.

Our first visit. The first step in ordering is selecting the meats, a la carte. I asked if everything was a la carte, and the clearly-very-annoyed employee condescendingly said yes, and then as I tried to order intentionally spoke over me to tell me what everything was, as I was trying to order. Not kid friendly, at all. Very loud and crowded with only bench seating. We were rushed through the line, and got brisket, and a half chicken, potato salad, and Mac and cheese, for $53. Despite the fact that its counter service and self-serve, they still asked for a 25% tip. Ive been a Texan my whole life, and this was incredibly disappointing. Ive legitimately had better brisket from random guys cooking on a trailer smoker in a grocery store parking lot, and they were much nicer and less expensive. It was dry and chewy, except for the half of it that was inedible fat (meaning the edible portion was $80/lb). The chicken was ok, but very dry, and obviously had been kept warm for quite some time. The beans were the best part, and were ironically included at no charge. The barbecue sauce is pretty much vinegar, and does nothing to help the dry, chewy meat. The mac and cheese was ok, but not worth $5 a portion. Hard pass on returning to this one. Absolutely astonished theyre as popular as they are.

My experience was actually on July 17th 2024. Came to Austin for work related with coworkers. I knew I wanted Real good smoked bbq & Im aware that good bbq comes at a high price. Didnt bother me. We were a total of 5 & each ordered a pound & combined in 1 tray so we all could try something different. I was told by the meat cutter that they use mesquite wood for that yum (Texas BBQ flavor) Our bbq tray consists of brisket, regular & jalapeno sausage, turkey breast, beef ribs. Our sides consist of coleslaw, potato salad & jalapeno mac & cheese & 5 drinks. Each person paid $45. We had a feast. We ate like KINGS & QUEENS. We all were in Smoked BBQ Heaven. Coopers bbq offer free picked, onions, beans, bbq sauce (yes it a bit water) & to be honest if you need to add bbq sauce to your food something is wrong with the bbq. I added a bit but just to try. Everything I mentioned was delicious & melts in your mouth like butter. I give everything 5 stars & Smoked BBQ of Excellence!

We decided to give it a try The BBQ was actually really good both the brisket, beans, potato salad, cream corn, and lastly the beef rib (dino). I must say that I am a fan if the beef rib at Pinkertons in San Antonio and Blacks at New Braunfels. The beef rib was much more softer than the ones at my favorites and as good tasting. The surprise was the price which was about 30 percent cheaper than Black s and 50 percent cheaper than Pinkerton s. Add to the food and price, their Hopadillo draft IPA, and peach cobbler and Coopers was a great hit with me.

Dont really know much about BBQ... Grab 3 at the put, brisket was fatty and salty but it tasted good.. Didnt use any sauces, ate it as it.. Kind of pricey but I liked it... Will probably try a few other places instead of a repeat.

Worst bbq I ve ever had. The bbq sauce if thats what you call it was so acidic I could barely keep it down.. it was like drinking straight from cleaning vinegar. The meat was cooked well but flavorless. Crust was vacant of any flavoring.. chicken was good. The beans were very good. Over all certainly will never come back again

Brisket was decent but VERY salty. Chicken was dry. Sausage was OK. Mac and cheese was very good (but whose had bad mac and cheese?). Beans were also good. Service was kind of unfriendly, and atmosphere was nice. Desserts were homemade. I wasnt wild about the blackberry cobbler, but wife liked the pecan cobbler. Also, the bbq sauce was the hands down worst Ive ever had in my life. If you like vinegar youll love it. I think bbq sauce should be sweet and thick. This was runny and sour. It was also on the higher end price-wise. There are better options.

I recently went to Cooper s with a group of seniors. When I walked in my first impression was I didn t smell the aroma of mesquite or oak wood in the atmosphere. My next impression was questionable if this was a BBQ restaurant. The display and very misleading of the cost of the meats you were ordering. I order a piece sausage about the size of your middle finger $4.88, a slice of brisket $12.76 and 2 ribs $14.89. I decided not to get the ribs. I ordered the Mac and cheese $4.79 and a bottle of water $1.50, my bill was over 25.00. The sausage was tough and the brisket was dry. So my meal was the pinto beans and the Mac and cheese. Oh the beans were free and had a good flavor. The BBQ sauce was watery and had the overpowering taste of vinegar. I know the cost of living has increased but these prices far outweigh the favor of the foods that were being served. The restroom door didn t close properly it needed a new lock.

I would count this place as a top choice for barbecue in Austin. But I can confidently say that everything here is well done and fairly priced. I would 100% recommend this restaurant if you are not into going to the most expensive and disputed places.

In my opinion, this is the most consistent and high quality barbecue joint around in Austin. Check out the reviews of some of the more famous spots and youll see lots of people comparing to Coops saying things like this place is well known and high-quality but not necessarily better than Coopers is for BBQ. Forgo the hour wait and get on this real.

Best BBQ turkey in Austin. I love turkey and have tried it at most (if not all) the BBQ places in town. This is hands down my favorite. The pork chops and pork ribs are also to die for. We occasionally order their beef rib or brisket and have also enjoyed them. The sides are all delicious; we especially like the grilled corn. They also provide you with free beans and bread. Anytime we have family come in from out of town, we bring them here. The only bad thing about coming out here is the parking. Finding street parking is challenging. Fortunately, there s a little paid parking lot caddy corner from them. I can t remember the cost, but I think it was $5-8/hour.

Went there for the brisket and was not impressed. It was excessively fatty and lacking in taste. The sides were the highlight of the meal. Delicious potato salad and the bacon-jalapeño mac n cheese were worth the stop. Very good bar with a professional bartender and a solid beer selection.

Let me say this, first and foremost, the staff are very kind and friendly over the phone. We made a pretty large order with a very sweet and informative woman for my son s high school graduation party, to the tune of a shade under $600. The brisket was so dry and salty. The salt was just gross. I love salty stuff but this was like a salt lick and many people commented on how heavy the salt was and how fatty the brisket was. Gosh. It was so fatty. The ribs nobody was impressed with, they had no color, besides beige. The sausage tasted like venison which was fine, it was just unexpected. The giant pork chops were good. Really, they were very good, even reheated. The bbq sauce though- that s what was so strange. It seemed like runoff from the meat or maybe marinade that made its way into our order, mistaken for sauce? We re unsure. It was definitely not bbq sauce though. It was a very liquidy, vinegary and odd with lots of chunks of stuff in it. The coleslaw was yummy. The potato salad was okay. Also heavy vinegar presence but it was edible. Beans were fine but also pretty salty. Oh, and the macaroni and cheese. We ordered one regular and one jalapeno bacon and you literally couldn t tell there was jalapeno or bacon in that besides the two mushy pieces of bacon found in our container. I didn t even try the the regular one since the fancy one was so blah, so I can t speak on that one but unfortunately we ll never order for a crowd again, as it was embarrassing, considering we were so proud to have it as our celebration party meal as it s beloved bbq in Texas. I m glad lots of people enjoy it but if this is their standard in Llano, I don t know why. It wasn t good. We understand everyone has their off days but this was below anyone s off day standards. It was sad.

As a native Texan, it saddens me that people think this is good BBQ. It s far below the quality of a Terry Blacks or similar. I suppose it has survived all of these years by milking the bbq lore backstory and being located in an area heavily trafficked by tourists and convention-goers. I tried the brisket, ribs, green beens, and a side salad. At $51 dollars this felt like California pricing, so I was already off to a bad start. To add insult to injury, the guy working the register was Mr. Personality in all the wrong ways. However, the guy at the pit was super friendly and a helpful. The brisket and ribs tasted bland, lacked any flavor of smoke, and the fat wasn t rendered on the brisket. It looked/tasted like it was baked in an oven. The sauce is watery and had more of a Carolinas vinegar vibe to it. Lastly, I couldn t try all of the sides, but was happy they offered a good selection. However, the green beans were so salty I couldn t eat more than a couple bites.

Decided to get some old school BBQ in downtown Austin. And glad we did. You walk in and order the meat, I recommend the sausage and beef rib. Then get your side. I recommend the Mac and cheese. And tour off to happy Town with some serious mouth pleasure. Chances are youll share a bench with another group to eat, but youll quickly forget when you take a bite. You get the adult beverages separately at the bar.

I will dream about the Apple Cobbler, it was that good! Absolutely loved Cooper s old time BBQ, your meat is carved in front of you and you can grab your sides before you pay and grab a seat. Beans, Pickles and Bread are complimentary. The Beef Rib was out of this world, Jalapeño sausage was well spiced and our sides were top tier. When we left the queue was almost out of door, it s clear to see why.

when you walk into the place, there is no one to greet you at the door. We walked around until we found a friendly cook, who showed us the meat and told us how to order what they didn t tell us was that the ribs that were beef for $31.49 a pound and the brisket was $29.49 a pound I ate less than half of my food I ll show you but noticed that it is full of fat, the barbecue sauce taste like hot sauce with water in it. The barbecue sauce that was put on try to hide that there was absolutely no seasoning on the meat. It literally taste like they washed the meat put it directly on the grill there was however, salt and pepper on the table along with ketchup, Parkay squeeze mustard, and cajun chef hot sauce. I ordered one beef rib and one beef brisket, grilled corn and paid $38. The meat as thick as he wanted it and weigh it and your obligated to pay it. On a positive note the dessert was really good. They should change the name from Cooper s old town Pitt barbecue to Cooper s old town good dessert place cause that s all that was good at this place the barbecue he needed to do it in the trash and I do want to refund if you read this post, please don t patronize if you want good barbecue, but if you have high blood pressure and can have a lot of salt, this might be for you

They carve in front of you and wrap it really quick and you don t get to see the price on the label.. literally a slice of brisket and ribs, corn on cob and peach cobbler was $52.12!! Insane.. The BBq sauce was literally hot sauce and water in a hot pot!! I would have taken a Wendy s bbq sauce pack to pour on the meat!!! Highly disappointed!! I took a L with this one!!
