Ive had a good time here in the past, but having only two bartenders to serve a holiday weekend crowd and having a KJ allowing the same people to sing duets and group songs back to back AND bumping new singers ahead of the rotation just plain sucked. I waited four hours and I didnt even get to sing my second song. Will think twice before returning.

Upcharged our debit card by double saying it was for security reasons. Went for karaoke at 8pm only got to sing once. Was there till 1am and only got to sing once! Someone knocked over my double, full pint drink on the cement floor and nobody ever cleaned it up. The lady who knocked it over did replace it with a single but staff never even offered us any paper towels. Will NOT be returning.

I came by on a Friday for a themed karaoke night. Mayra and Mycala run a tight ship. Amazing service for a busy Friday night. Karaoke was a blast. The crowd was engaged and uplifting. I wish I wasnt too old to hang out later. The energy at Canary Roost is a hit! Positive vibes. Be sure to check out their DRINK OF THE MONTH that benefits charity! Delish and supports a great cause. I loved going to this place because it s close by, small, divey, and the drinks are cheap. The music was very hit or miss but I always made the best of it. But the real issue were the regulars. Considering there are about thirty thousand karaoke bars in Austin, its rare to find a place with a real local charm. No frills here, but bar staff are always cool, drinks are reasonably priced, and the acoustics are pretty good in the building. Plus thus place does karaoke 7 nights a week! Went with a group for karaoke. It was loud, but otherwise a lovely spot. I brought my SDiT for training and they brought a water bowl for her, which surprised me, but then I realized later its a dog-friendly bar. The only other dog we met there was incredibly friendly. Plenty of parking and several grassy areas outside with a few shade trees where dogs can use the restroom and humans can decompress. The restroom was spotless, and had that freshly cleaned smell, which was lovely. The staff were attentive and the bar looked well stocked. I just did cider for the evening, but several friends enjoyed some of the cocktails. One thing I had to be careful of was the flashing LEDs around the stage - if youre sensitive to flashing lights, consider facing away from the stage or sitting towards the back. They werent too bad though. Some of the stools are a smidge wobbly, but its easy enough to push against the wall if youre prone to dizzy spells.

Not LGBTQ friendly. I came here with three friends and while initially we had a great time, one of my friends was harassed by the manager in the bathroom. We were consoling my friend - who was going through a breakup - in the bathroom shortly before leaving and while nobody else was in there because the bar was relatively empty, and the manager (a woman) came in and repeatedly asked one of my other friends to pull down his pants and show her what was under there to prove that he could be in the womens restroom. At the time, it was 3 of us female presenting people and my guy friend who was in the bathroom taking care of my friend who was crying. Again, nobody else was in the bathroom at any time and we were already about to leave, and my friend that we were consoling was clearly not in a good state but the manager didn t care at all about the obviously crying girl standing with us or lend any understanding to the situation. The manager seemed to be drunk and kept laughing while she was talking to us and asking us not to be mad at her (nobody was getting mad), even though she was being incredibly rude and just very weird in general. Who says stuff like that?? There are literally dozens of more professional and less creepy ways to ask someone to leave a room. It was an incredibly uncomfortable experience. I have never left a bad review for any other establishment until now. I would ve loved to come back to this bar before this happened, but obviously will not now. The bartender was great though and apologetic about the situation when I went to retrieve our cards.
