Food and service was outstanding, felt like the surrounding patrons were from a nursing home. Very judgmental but hey, that generation is dying off. Definitely a place to continue to enjoy dinner. The chicken fried steak and pan seared chicken was amazing.

Had a great meal here at Hyde Park Grill. Orderded the famous buttermilk fries to start and they were crispy and satisfying. Chicken Fried Steak for dinner, it was tasty but I wouldn t say the best I ve ever had. I would like to come back and try another dish. I would dock half a star for the heat inside, the area we were sat didn t have a fan over it and got pretty hot as the meal went on. Was definitely ready for the check to arrive. I would recommend this spot, has a classic restaurant vibe to it.

This is a solid neighborhood joint with a few gems on their menu. I come here when I just need something consistent and good, in a relaxed atmosphere, without needing to look/ feel trendy. I usually stop in just for fries and a drink or the fried avocado. It s just yummy and hits the spot.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner and it was great! Our server was very nice, and the food was excellent. I had the sriracha shrimp with pesto linguine and he had a chicken fried steak. Our cocktails were good as well. There was plenty of parking in the back at a low cost ($2 an hour). Overall we had a nice time and will be back Parking: There is limited free parking on the street and in front of the restaurant, but there is a large lot behind the restaurant that is fairly cheap ($2 an hour)

Unique spot. Food was good, however if youre concerned, definitely ask how your dish is prepared. I asked what the steamed broccoli is seasoned with, Server said nothing. The painkiller drink is tasteless so Id recommend skipping it. Id totally eat here again! I enjoyed the bacon glazed meatloaf and avocado fries. The collards w/ bacon was a hit...after I added a touch of honey.

This chicken fried steak is beautiful tastes amazing has excellent high-quality meat and the crust is superb. The gravy is excellent, and I almost hate to mention how good the mashed potatoes are because they re outstanding. I live seven hours from here and this chicken fried steak might be worth the trip.

I recently dined at Hyde Park with a large group of co-workers, and we had the pleasure of being served by Graham. Despite the size of our group, Graham managed everything flawlessly. They were attentive, friendly, and incredibly efficient. What impressed us most was his ability to handle our separate checks with ease, ensuring that each of us received the correct bill without any confusion or delay. This is no small feat with a large party, and Graham did it perfectly. Graham also had a remarkable knack for remembering everyones orders and preferences, which added a personal touch to the service. He made excellent recommendations and ensured that all our needs were met promptly. The entire group appreciated his professionalism and positive attitude. Thank you, Graham, for making our evening so enjoyable!

Nothing special but nothing awful either. Definitely very overpriced. Had the chicken guacamole BLT sandwich and the meatloaf entree. The chicken sandwich was $16 and didnt come with anything. Fries are another $4 and things like cheese or ketchup are an upcharge for any sandwich/burger. It was a small, dry chicken breast that was bland with super salty guac and bacon on top. The meatloaf entree was $18 and came with mashed potatoes and choice of side - I got rice pilaf. The pilaf was straight out of a box and super salty. The mashed potatoes were flakes from a box. And the meatloaf was less than an inch thick and packed with carrots, celery, and cabbage. Everything was too salty, portions were too small, and everything felt like they were trying to cut costs while charging a premium. Its the kind of food I would expect for $8-10 not $18-20. For the same prices you can go to Culinary Dropout and have an amazing meal. Im sorry I stopped here.

Its been a while since Ive been to the original Hyde Park Bar and Grill. Coming in, it seemed very familiar and comfortable. It wasnt particularly busy, and my friend And I were seated fairly quickly. It wasnt a bad experience, but everything seemed sort of strange. Drinks slow in coming, waitress acting as if she didnt care one whit about us being there. A long wait for our fries, all stuff Id ignore if they were in the weeds, but they werent. We plowed right into the trademark battered fries, delicious as I remembered, hot and well presented. My friend ordered the special, a Cajun inspired redfish with greens and some other side. I ordered the cheeseburger. My friend, who lives in New Orleans for a decade plus was not displeased with the offering, except the greens were a little snappy, undercooked to a point of distraction. I was starving, so I plowed through the first half of my burger before I realized it was dry, as in no condiments, not a bit of mustard, mayo or ketchup, and none provided anywhere on the plate. I used the last of the ranchy French fry sauce to enhance it a bit and finished it in straight order. My friend and I agreed we would eat there again, but both of us hoped to not have to experience the same unsettling vibe again. RECOMMENDED (with slight reservations) Well see you again Hyde Park B&G.

Welcome to my new chicken fried steak spot because it, as the kids say, Slaps. The crust was crunchy, and the steak was tender and delicious. The gravy, mashed potatoes, and bacon braised collard greens were all seasoned just right. Overall, it was a great, well-rounded meal. Also, perfect serving size, no crumbs left. I left satisfied and not at all weighed down or overly full. The house margarita is on the small side but tasty. Everything on the menu seems worth trying after this 1st experience. Lastly, I was alone, so I sat at the bar. Its not really a big open space, so the ambient noise level seemed loud to me, so I popped on my noise-canceling headphones on and ate whilst listening to my old lady music (90s hip-hop). Parking: FYI, parking in the back lot is tight. The telephone pole(?) behind the building and in between parking spots almost took out my side mirror when I backed out of the space.

Service was good- had a reservation and didn t have much wait time on table. Ordered appetizer and two entrees; appetizer (fried green beans) came at same time as entrees- ok but not great. App lacked flavor- needed seasoning. Entrees- one was special of day- a pork sandwich with collard greens on a hoagie. Was NOT a hoagie- looked like a hot dog bun. Greens lacked any flavor and was not cooked down enough, not chopped down enough to eat as a sandwich pork needed seasoning. Server was nice. Lighting a bit poor but ok. Likely won t go back.

This iconic comfort food haven has been an Austin institution for decades, and it never disappoints. Since we came on the Monday before Thanksgiving, the huge fork standing in front was holding a turkey! I love the laid-back ambiance of this place, warm and filled with natural light. There s a full bar, and while there are only a few beers on tap, I was able to get my favorite Austin-brewed hazy IPA. The menu has so many good choices you can t go wrong. Number one recommendation? The FRIES. I ve had them all over the world and Hyde Parks are the best! I got an order to eat there as well as a large order to bring home and reheat in the air fryer! I get fries every time, no matter what else I order. Other things I rotate through: the burgers, chicken fried chicken, bacon glazed meatloaf, the Asian chicken salad, and the Sonora salad. The sides are excellent, with my favorites being the buttermilk mashers, the grilled broccoli, and the cheddar poblano grits. The other thing I get every time has an odd name but is simply delicious: Wom Kim s Peach Pudding. Just try it. The weekend brunch is also amazing. Join lots of Austinites in this weekly celebration.

Although it does draw an older crowd, I find it to be the perfect place for a solo, casual lunch. My favorites are the Blackened Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Pastrami Reuben, Pan Roasted Chicken, and (of course) the Hyde Park Fries (extra dipping sauce). You won t be disappointed.

My husband and daughter had the bacon glazed meatloaf and said it was not bad. My son had the ribeye steak and said it was okay. My son and husband tried the Painkiller drink, which just brought pain as it was not tasty, very small and quite expensive. My margarita was not very good, but my daughter enjoyed the Old Fashioned that she selected. The service was very good and the old home converted to a restaurant was very quaint and cozy, so we did have a great time just hanging out as a family here.

For someone that has seen Austin drastically change over the last 20 years, Hyde Park Bar & Grill for me is still a great neighborhood spot for good value and a satisfying meal. I ate brunch here today and really enjoyed my Eggs Benedict (with fried chicken & bacon) and $3 Bloody Mary. Plus reasonably priced local art on display and for sale. Not as glossy as most new things that pop up now, but check it out to experience an original local business.

Hardly anything comes out the pepper when you shake it. Additional parking spots in the back, and service was great. Didn t rush us and checked up on us often. The Reuben was very dry. The bloody Mary was so so. The fries were the highlight.

Service was great. Simon took great care of us. Was not thrilled about my chicken avocado blt was missing the lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. I didn t make a fuss because I thought maybe I remembered the menu incorrectly but nope, it was missing. Fries were good but needed salt or a spice.

Came from out of town on a recommendation randomly one day from someone who lived in Austin. Fries and sauce were good and that s what brought us in. Food was average. Husbands burger was way overdone and sons burger didn t come with any toppings like we had requested. Ordered 4 different drinks from the bar. 2 were so so. The other 2 were not good at all. Marg tasted nothing like one and the Paloma tasted like gasoline soaked dirt. Our server could have been less than interested and handed our check almost right after we got our food. I guess we were done ordering stuff????? I suppose we would come back for just the fries but nothing else really stood out

This is a great spot and consistently good. I have always had a great experience. Recommend the chicken and waffles. And the chicken fried chicken. And how could I forget the Hyde Park Fries. Oh, and the bloody mary.

The crowd here is on the older side. People come with their families or even on dates. The drinks are strong. The happy hour is cheap but only limited items. There is plenty of parking in the front, back, and a bigger lot further back. We ordered 4 of their happy hour drinks, they were tasty and came quickly. For the food, we opted for happy hour finger food. We got their famous fries, fried beans, and fried avocado. The fries were delicious, they are coated in some starch and fried. The avocado tasty so good, like creamy egg yolk. The fried string beans are just as you d expect. The dipping sauces were yummy!! The portions here are very big for their happy hour price. The staff was nice and quick. I would def come back again to try their chicken fried steak entree.

An old favorite. I rarely get over to this side of town. I used to always get the Pecan crusted fish and Mac. But its been replaced with Creole Redfish... Even Better! And I been getting the Polenta instead of Mac n chz! Better than Mac!? Haha. Thank you for your consistency.

My husband and I have been dining at Hyde Park Grill-Central for 30+ years. Always enjoy food and atmosphere!! Today, our server took drink and food order then completely vanished!! It was necessary to go to the bar for him to give me a drink refill. It s important to let you all know about a server not returning to your table. He was not slammed as lunch was winding down. He was professionally polite; however, I question the training? This is my reason for posting. Also, we prefer to tip at least 20 percent. Unfortunately, we reduced to 10 percent of $50.00. Tomorrow 6-8-23, I m hosting a large group (10) ladies for lunch at Westgate location. And again, a large group in a couple of weeks. I ve been considering doing regularly scheduled Meetups at Central location. Thank you.

I go to this restaurant all of the time. Each time I have gone lately it gets worse. No one greets you when you walk in. They will let you stand there with no acknowledgment which is awkward. The service is ok but I cannot say strongly enough the food is getting bad. I ordered a steak. The server did not ask me how I wanted it cooked. It was supposed to be a ribeye ,if I remember correctly, but when it came out it was the flattest steak I think I ve ever seen, very poor quality. it was tough and cooked well over medium. I prefer medium Rare. Which I made the server aware of, and he basically walked away and said nothing about it if you re going to serve steak you should serve a decent steak, ask how the person wants it cooked and cook it correctly. Their macaroni and cheese is the bomb, as it always is, but really there s nothing else on the menu except possibly chicken fried steak or salmon that I would say is worth getting anymore. ( the salmon portion is always tiny) It seems the quality is just getting worse and worse. I will be honest and say I did eat my meal last night because I hadn t eaten all day and I was starving and I was with an associate and didn t want to cause a scene and send it back. Again, I had told Server that the steak was very overcooked and he didn t respond and walked away so I didn t see the point. I just let it go, I should not have. We then ordered chocolate cake which was horribly dry and the worst piece of chocolate cake I have had. We basically just ate the icing and kind of picked it apart but again for what they re charging the food should be much much better than it Is. They also need to get staff that is friendly, greet you and makes you feel like they care if you re there.

I love this place. I have for 30+ years. I dont live in Austin anymore but was there recently for a visit and had the standby favorites - salad with hot bacon dressing to start, chicken fried steak with Hyde Park fries and Wom Kims peach pudding for dessert. All as good as I remember. The truth be told I could skip the CF steak and have the salad, fries and pudding and be a very, very happy man! Thank you Hyde Park for keeping it true all these years!!
