About the Company
rating: 4.8
The Texas Route 66 Visitor Center offers so much more than T-shirts and keychains. We have local art, information, maps, unique and original Route 66 memorabilia. The "Two for the Road" documentary that highlights the Texas Route 66 experience shows daily, and we will be adding more shows and features that we will be announcing soon. Our Location is the historic Myers Fried Chicken Restaurant at 1900 SW 6th Ave. One of Amarillo's most historic and iconic restaurants for over 20 years from 1948-1970. In the heyday of Route 66, Myers was open 24 /7, 365 days a year to serve the travelers on this famous roadway. We are proud of our local history and all of the history along Route 66.

Visited 8/4/24 on a Sunday morning. In a former chicken restaurant on old Route 66, this cute place has a little bit of everything. There are souvenirs, handicrafts, tourism brochures and more. The lady working was so friendly and helpful, telling us the best places to eat in town and the history of the building. Parking is free on a level lot.

The couple who owns this place were so nice an knowledgeable about the local history. The selection of local crafts and Route 66 items was quite large. This was a nice visit and a place to take photos with the mural on the outside wall. This place used to be a chicken restaurant when it first opened a long time ago. They featured yellow gravy with the biscuits. Turmeric was the secret to the yellow color.

Absolutely delightful little shop with all kinds of unique RT 66 souvenirs to buy. The gentleman at the front desk (I think he was the owner?) was very friendly and knowledgeable and he stamped our passport books and gave us a free pressed penny and free pins. My daughter is a huge 66 fan and she loved this place. I bought a really beautiful blanket and a unique metal 66 night light here that I really cherish and RT 66 earrings! Weve been all around 66 and have never seen such unique keepsakes. In addition, they have a really beautiful Amarillo 66 wall mural outside that is perfect for photo ops. Highly recommend this hidden gem!

It am a writer and a book signing brought me to Amarillo, even though I have spent my life around and inside this town. We wanted to see some of the local art that this stop carries. It just so happens that it was our 39th wedding anniversary and we were enjoying a few stops before supper, and a play. Such a great store and so beautifully stocked and the manager so personable. Just a great place for travel information and grand choice for souvenirs. My name is Roger Browning and my novel out now on Amazon and select book stores across the United States and outside of it, is titled The Reckoning of Rance. It is a story of a modern day Texas ranching family struck down by inheritance found greed. I hope you check it out and please put this store on your list of must visits, while enjoying the great panhandle town of Amarillo.

It is a great venue to showcase the best of route 66. The people are friendly and helpful. Worth a stop in.

Awesome place to stop for Route 66 info and gifts. Very cool original artwork too! Stop and snap a picture of the Route 66 mural outside.
