The quality, serving sizes, and price are second to none and the service with atmosphere very Texas welcoming. Deliciously great. Venerable burger joint, transplanted from the original location, thats been on route 66 forever. Fresh fries, old fashioned cook on the meat makes for a great burger. I rank 4th. Coyote Bluff, Lone Star Grill, Shark Burger, then Golden Light. Big compliment putting them with these burger cooking beasts. Parking: Easier access than 6th location (Route 66)

Looking for a place to stop in and grab food after a long day out and around. Great burgers and fries. Low price beers. Atmosphere was a bit darker lit, and dated then expected. This place may be historical. But the food and service is horriffic. The only thing saving this place is that its on Route 66. TOURIST STAY AWAY. Coach Roaches on the wall. Health Department will be notified. It was a good place to go. Not now. When is the last time they cleaned ANYTHING?? When you go in you will see. And no worries about service. No sweet tea, but other than that, its great! On historic Rt 66 in Amarillo. Its very homey, small compared to some cafés, but the atmosphere is great. I ride a Harley, its motorcycle friendly, in the summer they are always quick to get you something cold to drink and chill for a bit. Great place for my wife and our friends to gather and eat.

This was my first and probably last visit. The food was ok and I ordered the 6th street something. I was under the impression it came with a hamburger patty and chicken patty. So the menu was confusing on this. When I received the order the waitress said it was one are the other, but if this was the case she should have asked what I wanted when I placed the order. She said she could bring me a chicken patty. I agreed and was charged 5.00. We also ordered cheese fries. They came in a basket and the fries were stuck to the paper in the basket. So you received some paper with your food. They would have been better on a plate.

I used to love this place my granddad took us here as kids it was great. Eaten here and brought others hear over 15 years. Till today. I was patiently waiting for a table with an elder man and my lunch date elderly man was waiting on table for 1 me table for 2 for roughly 20 mins. My first experience with this place. I went to the location on western and hillside. Meh is all I can say. Waiting for food from a food truck was not ideal. One of our people got their receipt before she got her food. Had to remind the 1 and only waitress of the situation. Smh. The patty melt was good but on the burnt side and the fries were grease soaked. Will find a different location for our next group brunch next time. The person who picked this place didn t even show up lol) There were 6 in our party 8 did not make it thank goodness because this place is way too small unless you want to sit in the heat. We went here for lunch yesterday around 2pm, and the place was slammed. It was clear why once we got our food. The mushroom burger and habanero burgers were delicious, and the handmade fries were excellent- just like homemade. We got ranch with our fries and it was great too- and Im picky about ranch. Food is always great. We went during a rush for table of two, had to sit at the bar but no worries. The only thing is that our waitress only took our order and then nothing else. Maybe it was because we were at the bar but we had to bother the line cooks for service i.e. drink refills it was really hot out and sitting at the bar made it worse. Meanwhile our intial server was attentive to all the tables. In the end I really feel like the line cooks that noticed and commented on our lack of service deserved the tip but were told the tips are shared among servers. So we tipped low. They need a tip jar at the bar if the servers rely on the line for service it seemed terribly unfair. The line served our drinks, served our food, checked on us but the server gets the tip? Otherwise I love this place but it really feels unfair that the line has that amount of pressure for the bar with out a monetary gain if they do the work.

We loved this place. We wish we would have found it earlier in our trip to Amarillo. The Burgers were GREAT. Just like old time burgers. The French fries were plentiful. FRESH ingredients. It is NOT a new restaurant. It was established 1946. BUT it sure is a Great Find. Dress Comfortable and come on in and take a seat. The nice staff will be with you asap. I even got a T-Shirt!! Thanks for an unexpected fun time at Golden Light Cafe. Parking: Parking was easy on the street, Route 66. Kid-friendliness: The staff was SOOOOOOO friendly. We sat at the bar and watched them cook. The manager lady cook was so caring to her staff and the staff was there to DO THEIR JOB! A really nice older man came in to eat and we tried to pay for his meal but someone else had already picked it up. Smiles Everywhere.

If you want a real hole in the wall kind of place that is part of Route 66 history then Golden light is the place. Weve eaten here many times and the burgers are always great.
