Dear Black Bear, please expand and put one in every single truck stop in America. Sincerely every hungry truck driver in America. The food is amazing. The price is reasonable and the service is amazing. We just ate at the one in Amarillo and are super excited to get good food coming back into a truckstop. Thank you.

We have previously eaten at The Black Bear Restaurant in Medford, OR while visiting family and the food was very good as well as the service & environment! So we thought this location would be just as good however we were so wrong! Would never recommend this place to anyone! Sorry for the negative review!

Breakfast was good. STAY AWAY from the clam chowder, OMG it looked horrible. The girl brought me a bowl, my facial expression must of been priceless because after looking at me she said thats clam chowder. The color itself was sick looking, stirred it with a spoon and it looked so watered down that I sent it back. Was asked if I wanted the other soup. Noooooo.

Good basic diner that Ive dined in in other cities. Its strange to see it attached to a gas station here, but its a much better option than you will normally see. I had chicken fried steak with steamed vegetables which were both very good and my wife had a salad with crispy chicken that was also very good. Service was wonderful and this will probably be our stop while traveling through Amarillo

This location is inside of a TA truck stop and has plenty of free overnight parking. I had the 5 oz chicken fried steak (they have a 10 oz) with white gravy and green beans and a side salad. It was very good. Sweet tea was to my liking. They serve alcohol as well. The service was top notch. Plenty of menu choices and breakfast served all day. I had breakfast the next morning. Eggs done the way I asked and the bacon was phenomenal. Also had crispy hash browns and sweet cream pancakes. Delicious! Oh and fresh squeezed OJ. The coffee was bold and flavorful. Thanks to the great food and service. Black Bear Diners are something to write about

1st time. This one is inside a truck stop. Overly patronizing cheerful waiter? Im not really sure his role but he seated me. There were 3 or 4 waitresses and after the guy brought my tea. I was completely ignored. There were only 3 other tables with customers. After 10 minutes of not even a Ill be right with you, I walked out. I felt like looking at my reflection to see if I was invisible. Luckily there was a Popeyes in the truck stop. They probably still dont know Im gone.

I went to the Black Bear diner and Amarillo, Texas for the first time this morning before work and the service was very poor, not one time was I asked if I wanted a refill for my coffee my breakfast plate which consisted of gluten-free wheat toast, sausage, one piece of ham, two pieces of baconpoached eggs, hollandaise sauce, and a cup of grits took over 30 .the sausage links were too greasy to eat.the bacon was burnt poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and a cup of grits took over 30 minutes. The sausage links were too greasy to eat,the bacon was burnt. I had no time to Waite for a manager being I had to head 16 minutes to get to work! I was highly pissed and never again will I eat here.

I have always heard positive reviews on Black Bear Diner, I guess everywhere but Amarillo. Each time I have dined inside, the staff did not seem prepared or informed, the food was mediocre at best, which is not good for the price. Today was the last straw. I order take out, two cobb salads.....pretty simple right? One of them was grilled chicken instead of fried and no avocados. The chicken was fried. Neither salad had cheese, or eggs. I love onions, but both salads were overwhelmed with onion, like one entire onion was split between the two salads. Both were inedible and had to be thrown away. Very frustrating as it was lunch break and was not able to make the long drive to take them back. In todays economy, theres nothing like throwing away almost 30.00 and not getting to eat lunch. Super dissapointed.

Traveling and went to this diner. The lady that took our to go order laughed in my face because I asked for a plastic fork and knife. We both ordered a club sandwich. 1 with sweet potato fries. The fries were cold because the cold sandwich was laid on top of the hot? fries. Both sandwiches had no mayo, which we asked for, no cheese, a very small amount of meat, the lettuce was soggy and wilted. And I didnt get the plastic ware I requested. Do better, Amarillo,

We have eaten and many black bear diners over the years. I was excited when this location opened. Tonight was probably the worst experience I have ever had at a black bear diner. The waitress didn t seem to know what came with the meals and wanted to argue with us over what is clearly stated on the menu. The portion sizes were smaller than the kids menu and I know this is NOT what the quality of Black Bear Diner. The manager came over after requested and fixed one of the meals but never asked to fix Mine. No discount was offered for the mistake and they really had no concern for the lack of quality. The restaurant seemed to be running out of items other customers were ordering. After I ate I went to Burger King to get a sandwich. Worst experience ever and the only time I have left a Black Bear Diner hungry. No refills were offered on my iced tea. Black Bear corporate needs to pay attention to this location and get it back to the quality I know they strive to give. TA can t run a restaurant so I hope they don t destroy the Black Bear Brand. Very disappointed in this location and I will never eat here at this one ever again.

UnBEARably slowwwwww. Took our order 21 minutes from the time we entered. It was 2pm and they were not busy but just very slow. We had to ask for silverware and a togo box twice. At one point the waitress just didn t bring back my husband s water. Lol!! The experience took an hour and a half simply because everyone moves at a bear s hibernating pace. They take so long to fetch the rag to wash off the table to seat you, they forget why they needed the rag in the first place. Then they do another task. Then they wonder why there is still a family waiting to be seated. This was the process for everything. The food was not bad. Very large portions. Awesome cornbread muffins and homemade dressing! Mashed potatoes and green beans are very good. Alfredo sauce is out of a can and costs like it s real cream. I would eat here again if I had plenty of time. Our waitress was very pleasant otherwise.

I asked her to remove the added charge for the avocado. She brought out hot French fries and the check stating she removed the avocado charge and the manager gave us a deduction. I was impressed until I saw the deduction was a dollar. We ate at a Black Bear Diner in Colorado Springs and it was good but I cant recommend this one.

When they first opened they were great. Now they are awful. Been here several times to give them the benefit of the doubt since they were so good in the beginning. Will not be back. And never order the fish special on Friday night, you wont be able to find any fish amongst the fries. The service was terrible as well. No water/coffee refills, and never once asked if we needed anything. My guy even asked for a glass of water and she brought it without offering to refill my empty water glass halfway through the meal, if you want to call it that. Huge disappointment. UPDATE: Its now been 2 weeks since our visit and, as you can clearly see, management reached out and asked for further info. The email instructions included a request for a phone number so they could call. I followed the instructions, provided the issues and the phone number as requested and...crickets.... not a peep since. So, I guess it looks good for them to show intent, but, dont expect any follow through. Update: Today I met a person from Oklahoma who travels extensively and he was telling me about the Amarillo restaurants he and his family have tried during their stay. He said he was super excited when he saw a Black Bear Diner in Amarillo because theyve been to several and theyve always had the BEST food. Before I could ask how they liked it, he said, It was the worst Black Bear Diner we have ever been too and we literally got up and walked out because the food was so bad! Disappointing to know theyve still not improved, but not surprised. Very very sad.

Food was beautiful and hot and fresh. Staff terrible. Reading the newpaper place mats on Black bear diner philosophy and didnt hit any of those on there. Left a filthy rag/ towel on the table the whole time I ate in front of me. Ordered ice tea I guess theyre saving money on ice? Never got a refill till I was done eating only 1 but I was done. Not friendly at all. No check backs except when dropping my food to ask how it looks. Needed Tabasco but had to ask another order taker. Um if a customer orders something wouldnt you know what condiments to bring in advance? Prople think a tip is they serve food and that gets a tip? Servers and order takers . Im a easy large tipper sometimes 100% but there 5% is too much even. Train the front house staff!!!!! Tabatha was my order taker. Table 10/1 9:22am 25.22 check amount after my gift of $5. Update 05/15/24 06:30pm server Natasha, she has personality and wonderful smile very pleasant and has major potential! She kept up on my tefills took my order correctly checked on all her customers etc. I served and trained staff on the strip in Las Vegas for 27 yrs and shes got huge future potential to make money. Thatll depend on management training etc. Id come back just so she could be my server. Shes a shining star and should be recognized. Thanks girl for making my day! Raised my 3 star to a 4 only because she made my experience exceptional! Update 07/18/24 Mandi was my server and she was super awesome! Exceptional service and was so kind! First time in a longtime in any restaurant I wasnt rushed. Taco salad was crispy , meat was steaming coming out! Id come back if she was working. Oh and the place was freezing! A pleasant experience for sure!

Its the first meal I had ever had at a Black Bear Diner in California and its so good that its hard for me to order anything else for breakfast. As stated, I ordered the Turkey Club once and in the past at other Black Bear Diners, I have ordered the Tri-Tip sandwich. Before the shutdown, I had a brisket sandwich at the Diner in the T/A at Barstow, CA. I dont know who the vendor for the brisket was, but it was outstanding. I would like to see it come back. All the meals are huge, filling and I think you get your moneys worth. I have tried the cream pies and the cobbler, but I have always taken them to go as I am too full to eat them there.

If the owner replies to your review asking you to contact an email, dont bother; theyre just going to interrogate you. I initially explained my issue in the review, then again via email, and once more over the phone. Despite all this, they kept asking more questions, almost as if they were trying to prove I was never a customer. Its a waste of time. Ultimately, they just tell you to come back and give them more money. When I asked why they were doing this, they claimed it was to fix the problem. I told them they should use secret shoppers for that, not hassle customers who already feel cheated. I had to delete my previous review to post this, so here s the short version: this place sucks it like the Steak Express on a bad day, but with higher prices. Seriously, save your money and go elsewhere butt here!

I m a big fan of BBD but there was something wrong in Amarillo. 2:45 pm very few people in the restaurant, no one to seat. Finally seated at the dirty counter with empty plates but no one seated. Finally a waiter appeared and started putting down a place mat on top of the filthy counter. After I asked her about cleaning she became rude and walk off. Happily Big Texas Steak Ranch was up the street.

For starters, our salad was huge and very fresh with a delicious ranch dressing. When we got our main meal, the mashed potatoes were cold. The chicken fried steak was over cooked. It tasted ok, but just ok with the crust fried a tad too long. The dressing on the coleslaw was nonexistent. But, the cornbread muffin was one of the best I have ever tasted. I do wish the music had not been so loud.

Typically when visiting Amarillo I eat breakfast at Ye Olde Pancake Station (which is great) but they are usually on a bit of a wait on weekends. So this time we decided to try the Black Bear Diner at the TA Travel Center where we usually get gas. So glad we did! Their breakfast is incredible. I had one of their egg combos and took a chance on the corned beef hash. It was amazing as was the hashbrowns. I expected frozen but they were fresh potatoes. My wife had the Denver omelette and loved it. She got one of their sweet cream pancakes and I had a few bites. Honestly one of the best pancakes Ive had. Very light, not bready at all, and a slightly sweet flavor. Would have been good with just butter. Will definitely have to come back next time we are in Amarillo.

Had a great time and late lunch here at Black Bear Diner. Mia is always so attentive and polite as well as helpful with anything you have questions on the menu. We had the Blackened Salmon with Broccoli and Mac*Cheese. Delicious. My husband had the Bacon Cheddar Burger and fries. We enjoyed our meal and the company of Mia. We always love stopping here and getting a shower and a Great meal, Breakfast or Lunch.

This BBD is awesome, the staff work w/ each other but one employee stood out amongst the others and that is Eleanor, she is one out standing employee. When not serving she is bussing tables, helping other tables and picking items off the floor. Eleanor would be a great choice for a training position Parking: No issue w/ parking and quite close (0.5) from Big Tx Rv Ranch

Worst pancakes Ive ever had. Crumbled into small bits when i tried to eat them. Also, the advertised thick-cut bacon wasnt close to being thick cut. And worst of all, no cream for the coffee. Wed heard friends from Boise talk about the Black Bear there, and how it had grown into over 150 places around the West. So when we saw one in Amarillo when passing through thought wed give it a try. Big, big mistake. The pancakes might have been a one-time issue, but not the bacon, and definitely not the lack of real half-and-half. At Walmart the bulk lots of fake creamers cost more than the half-and-half ones, so its not to save any money.

Oh you guys have done it again!!! Came back through, and honestly, didnt even realize the previous experience. We were so happy to eat at this specific location. We got take out, but ohhh, what you guys do to thos green beans is pure magic!!! Ebery this was really good!!! Pot roast, chicken fried steak!!! Awesome job!! We will keep on coming back whenever we are in the area!!!! 20 stars!!! Seriously!!! May want to check your food temps, and dates. I normally love coming here when we go through, but today breakfast made both me and my husband ill. And hashbrowns were rubbery. Not sure what did it, everything tasted ok. So I have to fall back to food temps. Not happy this round. Service is slipping a bit too. Still, I will be back, again, I normally love coming here when we go through.

Food was good, but not as good as the Barstow location, but definitelybetter than fast food. There was no avocado on my Cali omelet. The waitress was VERY friendly, but not the greatest. I had to ask for my 1st cup of coffee 3 times. Then she had to brew it. Finally got it halfway through my meal. I reminded her I had ordered bacon when she brought my meal, I finally got that when I was done with my meal along with the fruit that was supposed to come with. I heard her ask another customer who had just paid at the desk with a card if he had left the tip on the card. You do NOT ask for tips. Very unprofessional. The small tip I did leave disappeared before I got 10 from my seat. Wish my coffee had come that fast.

This is a hit or miss location. 3 of 5 times were not great and did not live up to the experience Ive grown accustomed to at this businesses locations. A couple of times were superb. I can only assume staffing is the issue here. It could be consistently good if the staff tried harder. Attitude counts for a lot. It is a location I would not go out of my way to stop at. Attention to detail would help for instance in the fruit with breakfast option it says strawberry, ffs make sure there is a slice of strawberry. Serve hot food hot or remake it. The consumer has no reason to expect any different. If a biscuit is supposed to be served with butter deliver it to the table with butter. This was not a front of the house staffing issue for as busy as it was there were several people doing nothing. Conversation could be heard behind the wall that did not pertain to work while customers suffered. This is one of if not the smallest location Ive been to. Perhaps Ive been spoiled by others and my expectations are too high but I dont think so.

The place itself was very nice, Ive ordered New York Stake, and it was ok, but the fries were too salty! So, I barely ate 30% of it, to much salt!!! Ive ordered 1 drink, but the Server decided to charge one drink extra... Dont think will come again here. Besides, I asked the Server bring me another bottle of ketchup, because the one I had on my table was almost empty, and she just shaked it and say, first finish this one, and after shed bring another one . Really!!! Nice service
