Texas Pride Barbecue

About the Company

rating: 4.2

Family Owned & Operated. Family-friendly. Live music. Beer, wine & full bar. TX Pride BBQ's Talanco Family dishes up more than just award-winning barbecue with desserts like peach cobbler that food critics praise as perfection on a plate. The one-of-a-kind restaurant also serves a slice of Texas, from country dances, cowboys on horseback, weddings, and motorcycle rallies to the rich array of memorabilia from filling stations, Texas beers, and Texas musicians. For the third year in a row, critics chose Texas Pride Barbecue over the Alamo and River Walk as the best place to take out-of-town guests.

We came on a Thursday night. Maybe that was a bad time. I had great hopes that a great BBQ joint was so close to my house. The asthetic is awesome. Old Roadhouse feel. The server seemed like she had better things to do. No conversation, other than what do you want? She didnt explain the menu, when I had questions. I think was overcharged, not sure, dont really care. The brisket was cold, and dry. The ribs were the same. The side were pretty decent. I will come back once more. Maybe the food wasnt fresh because it wasnt busy. Not an excuse for a place featured on a well known TV show. The prices were a bit high. Ive been to several localish places with much better meat, very reasonable prices, and generous portions. Please do better. I want to be a customer. Also the sausage was old, dry, and had no flavor. The food has to be better than this. I hope I will return one more time, but for $53 for 2 people I expect better.

Contracted with Texas Pride to cater a lunch for 300 people. From my very first contact to the thank you at the end of the luncheon, Cassie was friendly, helpful, and easy to work with. The food was delivered and served on time, efficiently, and hot. Sliced brisket & sausage were flavorful and cooked to perfection. Potato salad & green beans on the side with excellent sweet tea. And the pecan cobbler - wow! Thanks so much to the team at Texas Pride for making this meal a memorable one!

12 years ago when we visited for the first time this place was full, lively and the customer service was great. 12 years later it looked like the kids working there hated their job, Ive had beef jerky softer than the ribs and toast more moist than the brisket. Never going back.

It was amazing as usual! I haven t been since pre-Covid but I took my boyfriend there ( as he s from out of town) for his birthday. They did not disappoint! We ordered a meal for two that gave us the option to get a bit of everything, the BBQ was amazing. I come from a family of self- claimed bbq kings! lol, and the kings brisket/ ribs are hard to compare to. The brisket/ribs/chicken/sausage here was perfect; 10/10. They had a live band, and other activities to do outdoors and it felt great outside with the way they have it set up (big a** fans ) so it was not melting hot outside and enjoyable. The restrooms and restaurant were clean and nice. We re going back for other events being hosted !

Texas Pride is our go-to BBQ place! Delicious foods! Brisket and pinto beans are on point. You can dine in their smaller area attached to the kitchen/serving area or go out to the huge building in the back where live bands play in the evening. They have two full bars and a small ice cream area off one of the bars. Even when its crowded, it doesnt seem like it because they have plenty of space between tables. Employees are professional and friendly, a little slow in service sometimes, but I figure its all part of the laid-back country vibe. Highly recommend! Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp at main entrance and ramp leading to the building in back. Might have some issues in the parking lot though since it is gravel and dirt.

Where do I begin? Don t work in the service industry if u can t communicate or even pretend to be polite to ALL PEOPLE. Me and my daughter were completely ignored and overlooked when we were trying to place an order, the lady that is always there (apparently Bc my brother frequents here, this was our first time), looked right past us and asked the whole family behind me what they would like, I was there first, so I told her that I wanted to place an order and she looked at me and turned around and left. Not one peep, no direction where to go or place an order. I talked to 2 other men before I was able to even get my order in! Also, my family was there prior to me arriving, they told me don t get the brisket it is spoiled , so I got nachos. Those were given burnt, my daughter s kid s pizza was raw on the bottom and soggy on top. I requested only to return the pizza part of the meal and the same woman was upset. She didn t acknowledge us, 3 times she just looked at me and turned around and walked away, she didn t say : hi ;thank you; apologize, be right with u none of that. My brother ended up paying for me in cash, thankfully she didn t ignore him ( he tipped her accordingly, even though she was rude) we were still overcharged, not sure if it was the gratuity bc cc are automatically charged, even if the food and service are terrible, or if it was just her bad math and manners. Regular nachos and a kids meal aren t $25, even returning the pizza only, still got charged $18 Not sure how anyone feels welcome here, both of my brothers explain since it is part of a small town that s just how they are, especially since I don t look white , even though we are French! I may look Hispanic but there s not one Mexican bone in my body, which I m hoping that isn t the case of why we were treated so poorly.

Maybe I am a little upset leaving a tip for the meat cutters then being asked to tip another 18% or more for service you have to do yourself. From filling your drinks to going to ask and for left over boxes. We will be closer to home next time . Sorry just not what it used to be

I used to go to Texas Pride when I lived in San Antonio and it was always good, but that was not the case on this visit. The food and service were both below par. The brisket was dry and fatty. The green beans were cooked in too much garlic and was in so many tiny pieces it was like eating paper. The potato salad was too sweet. The bacon wrapped poppers were good, as well as fried pickles. The spicy sausage was also good. Maybe it was an off day, but it was a Saturday and I would have expected better, especially since they used to be so good in the past. I was happy their Pecan Cobbler was still excellent. The service was okay, but I could not give it more than 2 stars due to the cashier being a bit callous about not having wait staff, when I asked her because I was asked for a tip by the credit card machine. I realize that is most machines now, but she still could have been polite about it. My recommendation to the owner is to taste the BBQ at Blacks in Lockhart or Mumphords in Victoria, TX. Both are excellent examples of what to strive for in the future. I really wish it would have been as good as it used to be 10 years ago. Parking: Caliche and grass parking Kid-friendliness: They have a fenced in playground with the only entrance and exit through the main building. Wheelchair accessibility: Might be tough on people who cannot be dropped off at the front door since they have grass parking and caliche parking.

As Texans, we enjoy small places with great food and have been to many. This is by far the worst we ve ever had. For over $40 the portions are small and the food tasted as if it was warmed from frozen. We all left still hungry. 10% discount on $40+ was 20 cents, so it seems math is also an issue. There s a man with a large pit and two chairs just off the side of the road nearby. Wish we would have stopped there instead. B Daddy s is a better option on the west side for those looking for a sit down spot with a playground.

My husband and I were driving Loop 1604 on a Sunday and decided to stop for BBQ here during lunch. The first thing after we rounded the corner inside was what looked like a Bill Millers serving line, but no one was there. Eventually, a young lady came up to us and asked what we would like. We told her that this was the first time here, so she started to tell us what they had showing us the meat on display. The turkey looked very dry as if it had been under a heated lamp too long. I decided to get a brisket sandwich and my husband a sausage sandwich. While the young lady was making our sandwiches, the brisket and sausage looked dry as she placed it between 2 buns and nothing more. I walked around to see what sides they had, and they did not look appetizing. The macaroni salad, if thats what it was, had a dry film over it as if it had been in the refrigerator for some time and not fresh as well and the potato salad. My appetite went from hungry to nauseated. I dont know if this was an off-day of theirs, but they missed the mark. We paid for our sandwiches and left, not even wanting to sit and eat it. I may try this place again sometime in the future in hopes this was just not one of those days because the place was clean and had a lot of nostalgic items. I hear they have fish fry and music. As always, you decide. Parking: The parking lot is not paved and has huge pot holes. Watch as you walk to the restaurant from the parking lot.

The negatives were the food. Everyone I took with me had some items that were not good. The ribs were just ok. The brisket tasted ok, but I had so many big chunks of fat that made me nauseous. The potato salad was very insipid. My brother couldnt eat the macaroni because it was very sweet, and so was the creamed corn. The green beans tasted as when you take them out of the can and reheat them in the microwave, no taste at all. The portions were very small. The prices were a bit high for the portions we got. The positives: The tea was good. The service was good. They had a live band, so that was what made us stay. The actual restaurant atmosphere was good. I wouldnt go back, but if you just like to listen to live music and have an alcoholic drink with your family, then this is a good place.

It was okay a bit overpriced honestly, but it s a family owned business so that s to be expected. I got the brisket sandwich special that comes with a bag of chips and a tea I didn t see the chips selection until after I asked but seem like either they were low on stock or just doesn t have much of a selection. I asked if that s all they had, hoping there was more choices maybe in the back just haven t stocked up the front but no that was it. It s like those small bags you would pack for kids lunch and all I wanted was just some basic potato chips but all they had was those weird flavors like bbq flavor or chedder onion. Not something I would want with my bbq sandwich. The bread was okay. They just serve it on a cold bun. Now the restrooms need some tlc. It smells like mold, not surprising because I could see mold build up in the sink. TBH I wouldn t come back. I just came during my lunch break because I was in the area. I ve definitely had better. Very mid.

The Texas meal for 2, is definitely enough food for 2 people and a good possibility for 3, and there is a small possibility for 4 people depending on how much everyone consumes. The turkey was great, the jalapeño sausage is fantastic...has the hint of jalapeños but not hot, the brisket was good but I believe the may only use a small amount of salt and pepper...definitely needs a touch more of seasoning if they use any? The ribs were definitely meaty and fall of the bone but a tad dry for my taste but their BBQ Sauce was very good with the ribs. There are many sided to chose from but they also needed a tad more of seasoning or something? For a quick stop for dinner I would definitely go back!

Yall .. AVOID this place like the Plague! We decided to try them, being they were featured on triple D. Had to drive over 20 miles and way down in BFE to get there.. They were out of almost everything! The pork I got was mostly Fat (I had to tell them all I got was fat) the baked potato was plain with sour cream only (counted as two sides too) potato salad was hard, super sour with a hint of sugar and bacon, the coleslaw was huge leaves of cabbage, pickle and vinegar. The portions were super small (not that they were going to be eaten anyways! Gross!) and HOW does THREE $12 plates come up to $60??? So we each got a $12 plate that came with 1/3lb meat (obviously not weighed) and 2 sides they tell us the baked potato counts as two sides. Ok. Fine. Got just the ONE potato. So why was I charged $4 for an extra side? And then they charged $4 for a 16.9oz plastic bottle of Dr. Pepper. And THEN since they weren t finished ripping me off enough, they charged a SURCHARGE for using my credit card!!! Who uses cash anymore??? And then asked for a tip which sadly I did give! Possibly the worst food and restaurant experience I ve ever encountered tbh and I ve eaten at some pretty lousy places!

Brisket and sausage were good. The pecan cobbler was fantastic. The green beans needed more flavor. They were bland. All in all, it was a sweet dining experience.

Decent spot off the beaten track. Great for a work venue. They have a private room with a separate entrance. I got the ribs, baked potato, and green beans. The ribs and green beans were decent. The baked potato is ginormous and was my favorite part. I got it with butter and cheese.

Not your usual BBQ place. Besides having excellent brisket, sausage, & chicken, U can have it with wide variety of fixings much more choices than most. The establishments pride includes a recreated town, high on the hill, literally a Quantum Leap back to a TX town circa 1920s with old gas pumps, signs w/ emblems long forgotten & oil derrick reminiscent of TX boom town. Bikers welcome and live music headliners. Only a few miles off IH 10 & Loop 1604 East of San Antonio. Go south and when 4 lane divided highway narrows to 2 lanes and you will see it on left in mile or so.

Only thing that didnt taste like old left overs was the bacon potato salad. Brisket was dry and old, the green beans were cold, the peach cobbler was not edible. It was swimming in sticky gross goo

The woman cutting our meats wasnt very good at it, well for the lean brisket at least. Instead of slices we had just thick chunks. A lot of people talk about the food being cold but honestly its not the food, the food is hot. The problem is that it is so cold in the seating area that any food left unattended for even 5 minutes gets cold so when you sit and put the food down and walk away to get drinks, napkins, etc. the food gets cold. Other than than that everything was good/okay. I hadnt been here in years and I dont remember having a bad experience any other time. I LOVE THE CHEESY POTATOES!

Food is ok here, could take it or leave it nothing special, the older lady in glasses who works the bar and dining area is very nice, but dang the rude squatty lookin girl, with the bad tattoos who works in the back ( believe she said she s a daughter of one of owners) you are the rudest young lady I ve ever met. You need a serious lesson in manners and how to talk to customers. You ll miss out on business acting and talking to people the way you do!

This is a true Texas BBQ joint! It has the look, the taste, and the smell that says get ready for a real BBQ experience. The Brisket is top notch (bark for days). The sides are very well done and pair perfectly with whatever meat you choose. The Sweet Tea is something to be proud of... juuuust the right amount of sweet. And fir the love of everything holy save some room for dessert, the cobbler is last meal worthy. Overall they live up to the name... Definitely will return!

Great brisket (half lean/half marbled) and amazing shiner onion rings. Potato salad and bbq sauce were okay but nothing special. Prices were really good compared to other bbq restaurants. I wish they had more TVs in the dining room. They only had one and it was showing pictures of dogs and cats while the Longhorns game was on. Overall good restaurant and worth the money.

We arrived at Texas Pride at possibly the worst time to end up at a BBQ place... At the end of the day on a holiday. Typically this is when a BBQ restaurant is at its worst... The meat isnt as fresh, theyre running out of items, etc. This is to be expected. At its worst, Texas Pride is better than most BBQ places I have tried at their very best. The brisket and pulled pork were to die for, and the sausage was no pushover either. My wife and I split their Pick 4 combo and splurged for the peach cobbler and it was enough to fill both of us (were both pretty big eaters when it comes to BBQ too). And the peach cobbler was probably the best peach cobbler I have had at a BBQ place hands down. Its tastes homemade, like the cobbler grandma used to make in the dutch oven back on the farm. If we hadnt been so stuffed we probably would have gotten the vanilla ice cream with it. We plan to next time. Staff was pleasant and helpful. They happily provided extra sheets of butcher paper and stuff to take extras home in. Drink options (if opting not to get bottled soda) are limited. Tea, sweet tea, lemonade or water. But thats pretty typical of a Texas BBQ place. All in all, our experience was excellent. Texas Pride is going to be a mainstay of our trips to San Antonio area from now on.

As soon as I walked in and seen the food under the heating lamps I knew it was going to be bad. I stop by to eat on a Saturday around 4pm you would think this place would be packed, instead it was the opposite. The brisket that was under the heating lamp was already dry I asked for a fresh cut and I was told, that is it. The loaded potato was also dry. The bbq sauce tasted burned . And the sausage was nothing special. My girl got the chicken and ribs and that was also tough. I with not give this place a second chance. To be honest with you I think this food was from the day before. I guess after eating luling barbecue from central market, nothing will never compare.
