We have been to this new location 4 times. We loved their fried fish taco. Unfortunately this visit was probably our last. They didn t let us know they were out of flour tortillas and just brought our tacos out in corn tortillas, which we do not like. And my husbands tray was like a bowl of grease with tacos floating in it. It was disgusting. I flagged down the server to point out and asked, what is this? Grease? Bc it makes the food completely inedible. And he just stared at the food without saying anything for 5 min. And then walked away. Then brought us our check. Doesn t even comp the food we didn t eat.

Service was slow and the food was not worth the price. Their new card system doesn t work that well as they tend to neglect you if you don t put it up. I always tip but was surprised to see their new system just automatically tips 18% shame cause I always tip more than that. I gave them two chances and the second was so bad we just left.

Don t expect an ounce of respect for your time and effort. The service is incredibly horrible and no one on the whole premises cares. It s the twilight zone in terms of service, crazy. Apparently they have done away with the concept of servers, so no one takes ownership, responsibility or accountability for the tables. I guess they don t have hostesses either? So don t expect to be seated, don t expect to be given waters, napkins, or have your order taken. This place sucks in terms of service. The redeeming quality is that once we received our food, we did enjoy it. It would be nice if there was a manager their to help lead and drive the ship in the right direction for towards good customer service and satisfaction.

I wish I had known about The Local my first day in Abilene, I would have eaten here several times! The food is absolutely amazing. But the atmosphere seals it! The restaurant is huge and beautiful inside and somehow still cozy and friendly. The open floorplan enables you to take in everything at once. That means that when the table next to you gets their steaming smoky fajita platter delivered, you get to revel in the enjoyment as well. The scents and flavors at The Local are sure to impress. On a cooler evening, you can enjoy seating on the patio. The Local is a true Abilene dining experience.

Our server took 20 minutes to bring us waters My partner ordered a drink after that took another 25 minutes. The bartender brought it to us personally. Server only talked to us 3 times while the manager paid us out after we had to flag him down. I ve personally been in the food industry for 6 years and am very patient when going out but this service was atrocious. I will not be recommending anybody to this new location. Also to add there was only 3 tables in the restaurant on a Wednesday at 8pm. No excuse for that poor of service.

Food was ok nothing great, service was terrible, one of our party ordered unsweetened tea and it took 15 minutes to get it to the table after reminding the waitress a couple of times. The wait staff was ready to blame everything else for why nothing was arriving on time. The bill was outrageous with a huge gratuity added to the bill that the restaurant refused to allow to be changed for the severe lack of service.

A great spot to eat and relax. Friendly staff, wonderful food! Beautiful date! The chips and salsa came out fresh and made to order meaning the chips were made on the spot! Delicious even the salsa are great! No over powering cilantro or lime taste, just the right mix of each! The fajitas for two is absolutely delightful, everything tastes fresh and well balanced flavor. We decided on the beans and fried baby potatoes. Both are great choices!! A beautiful place to have a date or just an easy lunch! Quick service, great staff, good drinks! Please note that there is an automatic 18% gratuity. This was not made known to me beforehand. Luckily I caught it before giving another 20%.

I don t know what happened to this place, but we just had the most ridiculous dining experience. First, no beer or liquor. Second, you put a little card in a stand when you want service like at freaking Panchos. The food was mediocre at best, then we get our ticket and we were charged an 18 percent gratuity and a service fee, despite paying with cash. Finally, when we got our change back, the server must have skipped math class bc we just got our dollar amount back and not the change. Needless to say we won t be back.

My fiance and I have loved the Local for a long time, but our experience this past weekend was disappointing. Service was slow and a little unorganized - we were brought the wrong orders several times and had to ask for our appetizer three different times before it was actually brought to us. We were offered a free margarita, which was actually a 3% fee on our bill (and I watched the bartender pour Cayman Jack margaritas into a glass, so they were a even the high quality, delicious margaritas that we love to order from The Local). I ordered enchiladas, but they brought me quesadillas and our server told me they were basically the same thing and no attempt was made to fix it. Also, there was an automatic gratuity included on our bill that was not communicated to us at all, so we tipped on top of it not saying I wouldn t have tipped 18-20% anyway, but it came as a surprise and we ended up paying around 40% extra in total for an experience that did not deserve that. I completely understand that this was one of the first nights of service in a new location and with new people, but I really hope The Local gets things running smoothly soon and that their hospitality improves.

Although expensive, its an atmosphere thing. Something Abilene isnt used to having. The Big Red pork taco was AMAZING although it was like $7 and you only get one taco so just bring money. I also tried the midnight margarita and asada fries and everything was great. I also thought it was pretty cool how their menu works via scan QR, so bring your smart phone because im not entirely sure if they have regular menus. I spent $20 BEFORE tip on one taco, a margarita and half asada fries if that gives you any idea on price points. Its not for everyone, but the restaraunts downtown here are already expensive (cypress and beehive) this place is like if a taco truck got a restaraunt and a large budget to spend on decor and a really good chef. Everything downtown has the same industrial hipster like feel so this places decor is no different. The drink menu reminds me of how public haus used to have on their menu so very unique and creative drinks that are imo one and thats all you really need. I was good after just one margarita. Nice place to stop and grab a quick bite. I was not disappointed, will be back , and I hope its here to stay ! Abilene needed a place like this. Only 4 stars because while its good, Ive only tried them once and still need to decide if its consistent enough to balance out the price. There ARE taco food trucks in town that do sell street tacos at a much cheaper price and they are great, although The Local has very unique items you wont find at a normal food truck or really anywhere else in town so will update with time :D

I usually don t write reviews, but this just irks my nerves, I need to say something. Always love coming here for the food and atmosphere, but always end up getting bad luck with service. I went out with my boyfriend and our friends on a double date and before we were even sat, the server was yelling for peoples names for their tables and when no one would answer she would viciously stare at the waiting area, waiting for us to verbally say no, get upset and then storm off with an attitude. When we got sat, we got the same server that was putting up that childish act at the host podium. As soon as she sat us down she didn t give us an opportunity to look at the drink menu, or even speak, and she just yelled water water water, waters, okay! And ran off to get us waters, AND THEN came back to ask if we wanted anything else to drink. She s in such a hurry but she wasted her s and our time doing that. Lol. Then when appetizers came out I was trying to make room so she could set them down and she says with such an attitude that s RIGHT where I m going to set the food down . The attitude in her tone made me actually nauseous. I m a server as well and would never display any tone/attitude of that kind to my guests. For not even doing anything but trying to help anyways. After that and throughout the dinner, she only came to check on us once until she came with the bills. Idk what type of tip she was expecting with her attitude, but she s lucky we tipped anything. Work on your attitude and maybe you d deserve more lol.

No one even told us that they were finding our waiter/waitress. It was like we didnt exist. Got tired of waiting, so we informed the hostess of the lack of service and walked out. Only two out of six people enjoyed their food: Migas and Wonton Taquitos although the queso was served cold and had more than just a thin skin from sitting at room temperature. They dont close til 12 but its obvious theyre mailing it in for the evening. Im served a warm mineral water and never got a chance to ask for a glass with ice. We are ready to order and place our menus down waiting to be asked if we need anything. They serve beers for the waitresses and talk amongst themselves and coworkers. Its pretty obvious these guys Dont want customers here for the evening, states my coworker after sitting there for 10 minutes. I ask for the tab and rudely explain why were leaving. Set your closing time to 1030 if you no longer wish to serve customers by that time. Put the closed sign up on the door. Have your hostess say, our kitchen is closed and were are closing or closed already. Closing duties shouldnt be done 1.5 hours prior to closing nor should it be a priority over customers who just sat down. Absolute trash attitudes front of the house. This place is not that good that customers should put up with this gross neglect.

The food and drinks here are so good. The waitstaff are amazing and the ambiance inside and out is great. Two visits in one week with friends and family, party of six on the first visit and second visit a party of 10. The Local does it right! I highly recommend The Local.

Current: Tried their hamburger to go, very tasty but the bun is chewy so you get more of a dense saucy bite than soft juicy bite. The curly fries were not crispy and cold. 2 years ago: Good corn and breakfast taco. Staff is nice and attentive.

Went there with a group of gals for a lunch on Sat. Once we ordered food it took 30 min before we received or orders. The food was smaller portions, lacked flavor or was overly salty. We even had one gal that found hair in her taco. The street corn was overly oily and didnt look like the pictures. They were also out of asparagus and potatoes that are part of the normal sides. Needless to say if you want an honest review just save your money and go somewhere else.

Came in on a Saturday night for a quick bite and some cocktails while visiting Abilene to look for houses for a coming move. Rosa was our bartender behind the bar and she was entertaining, welcoming, and the cocktails were phenomenal. The food was a solid 8.5/10, I had the steak and my partner had the tacos, but the queso appetizer was the highlight of the meal. However, the cocktails and the service provided by Rosa pushed this experience to 5 stars. Will definitely return!

During a business trip to Abilene, a colleague recommended The Local for an atypical, Mexican fare experience.. I visited on a Wednesday night and ordered their El Maestro margarita with El Afan Reposada tequila.. The El Afan was blended perfectly with their house triple citrus blend, brandy, and Agave nectar to make for a delightfully smooth, top-shelf cocktail.. It was so good that I ordered another after my meal had arrived.. I sampled their chips, salsa, and queso as starters.. All of these were delightful, but I wanted to take special note of the salsa verde and its perfect kick and the creaminess and the great flavor of their white queso.. I ordered a pair of their featured pork belly tacos and a single al pastor, grilled pork taco with street corn for my main meal.. The seared pork belly tacos featured jalapeño salsa, radishes, white onions, salsa matcha, micro cilantro, and were finished with cotija cheese.. They were delightfully deelish, and I thought the radishes were a wonderful addition.. The grilled pork taco featured salsa verde, onions, and cilantro.. I opted out of the included pineapple salsa but had it on the side.. This taco was equally tasty.. The street corn was amply portioned and delivered hot, which made it a perfect complement to the trio of tacos.. In summary, the service was outstanding, the food and drinks were delightful, and the atmosphere was unlike any other Mexican-fare establishment Ive tried.. The Local would be a great place for a date night for certain.. The Local will be among my repeat picks the next time I visit the Abilene area..

Appreciate the manager Renee for awful service. If I could give this place no stars I would. Horrible manager. Totally dismissed our concerns. We waited an hour and ten minutes for a table and then was told we would have to wait another hour for food. She did not care or try to make it better. Told us we could leave. Walking away from your customer because they are frustrated is not the way to handle the situation regardless of how short staffed you suddenly are.

Yall, this is not your typical Mexican food, but boy, is it yummy! The atmosphere is so relaxing, and the music is at the right volume, where you can still have a conversation. We opted to sit at the bar. The bartenders were so friendly and made our drinks to perfection. We later took our drinks and went to sit in their lounge area, which was super comfy. There is also a patio. I love to sit out on patios (when its not scorching hot out). We would definitely return.

Update: Came here for dinner and we were probably the first people to arrive in the restaurant. I ordered the 8oz Sirloin wanting to try something different. I believe it was cooked in chipotle butter sauce and beer onions in a small cast iron. It definitely was not my thing I actually really really disliked it. Im so saddened because I absolutely love steak and to eat this one just made me feel sad while eating. I also really dislike their sides here. They are just odd sides that dont go with anything. I grabbed chata beans and they were decent but also had cojita potatoes which were basically fries. I believe other options were lime rice, elote corn, another type of beans and asparagus. Next time Ill just do beans and asparagus. I told my husband this would be my last time coming because I just dont like anything on the menu. Service wasnt that great either. I enjoyed a different waitress attend to another table hoping ours would do the same. My son was so thirsty and she refilled his drink after we were paying and leaving. So my husband and son can some back but Ill skip out. --Service was a little slow in the beginning but was pretty good after receiving our drinks. I ordered the Ruthie Chicken taco and it was a little bland despite all the yummy toppings. The Carne Asada taco was very delicious but I got full quickly so I didnt finish it. Ordered chips and salsa and the chips were very stale also I think they are HEB chips lol. I mean I love me HEB but I wouldnt expect finding store bought chips in a restaurant. Overall I would give this place another try they have a lot of good items on the menu. Oh yea, it would of been nice to have more cutlery to eat with besides a fork. Couldnt cut the burrito in half that my husband ate.
