After taking money from us, Claire and Phyllis were consistently rude and disrespectful towards us. Just at the end of the case, Claire withdrew as our attorney. We never met in person with her. Not even at the hearing. She was tied up somewhere else in the courthouse and could not attend. Claire never responded to calls. Never sat us down before our hearing. She and her best friend Cory Clements made a temporary order. We were just there. Not really involved in any of it. Right after telling us she needed more money; we requested an itemized bills. BY LAW, they have 10 days. THIS WAS REQUESTED TWO DAYS BEFORE SHE WITHDREW AS COUNSEL. AND GUESS WHAT??? Never received it. Nada. PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS LAW FIRM. IT IS RAN LIKE A CIRCUS AND CLAIRE IS THE HEAD CLOWN. she deserves no star!

For me to leave a review saying that Claire and her team are the absolute best in Abilene, especially covering the work load they cover would be the biggest understatement of my life. They went above and beyond for me and my family we will never use anyone but them again. Men in Texas in family law seem to get the shaft more often than not, but as I said I got the best outcome from my case not once but twice. Others can cry about the money it cost but in my eyes is if you want it done right and correctly you just pay it and be happy that it will be done right the first time!

These were actually my ex-husbands attorneys through the divorce. They went above and beyond trying to get my counsel to get things done. In the end my pay post divorce was returned to my ex-husband and they helped resolve the matter and were kind and considerate to me and my situation! I have some therapy and healing to do and am just grateful they helped him resolve the issue so we can both move forward with our lives. I wonder if those people giving one star reviews bothered filing a formal grievance with the Texas Bar Association! I did against my attorney and they are investigating BECAUSE I submitted a zip file of every email regarding the divorce that was 4G in size! You cant whine about the outcome if you dont bother being an adult and submitting evidence! Before filing the grievance I looked up what grounds for professional misconduct were before I submitted my grievance!

Due to circumstances in my life, Ive had to use both Sam (criminal defense) and Claire (family law) as attorneys for different things. Before Claire, I had 2 different attorneys represent me for divorce/child custody cases and they were horrible. Fortunately, I decided to spend a little extra money (worth all of it) to hire Claire and Sam. Most recently I needed some additional assistance/documents and called the office, left a message with the front desk and had a call back same-day by Mandy (Sams legal assistant) and she got me what I needed that day and the next morning. That kind of service is hard to find these days. Thank you!

While no one wants to go through a divorce, I would say that if it does happen, use Claire Mehaffey and her team. They were very understanding of my situation and did not judge me. They are a compassionate group of folks who deeply care for their clients. They were supportive of me and even helped me with resources for my mental health as I was going through this tough time. I wish I could less than one star and I wish I would have read the reviews before I hired them DO NOT USE THIS FIRM they are beyond crooked they just did a probate for my family and I was treated like dirt. Ever time I met Mr Watson he introduced himself, this process took two years. The ladies Mandy and Kayla behaved like children when I went into the office one day Kayla told Mandy I was there and she ran out and I looked up and she walked very quickly to the window and stretched. I am so glad this process is over. Beyond ridiculous I last more than my parents.

Got charged $7,500 for a uncontested piece of paper (2 other lawyers said 5hrs max) and then didnt receive paperwork that was supposed to be transferred through them. They were the only ones who picked up the phone when I *thought* I was in a bind and now I wish they didnt. Unless you want to be taken advantage of, call somewhere else. 0/10 defiantly do not recommend.

As the same as some other customers I feel I got ripped off by these people. I paid the $5000 for child custody thinking we would have to go to court. I never met Claire or even talked to any other lawyer there only the secretary. When the mother conceded two days after I paid the retainer I told them that it was settled that it just needed to be filed. I did the running around to get signatures. When I asked about getting some of my money back since all they did was file the paperwork with the Courts I was told that Claire would contact me multiple times and that she was never there when I went by. After reading some other comments I feel it would be best to seek other council for legal matters. I am happy that I got custody (mandatory one star) but could have saved thousands of dollars by using anybody else in Abilene instead.

By far some of the worst experiences Ive had could have been avoided if this office was interested in anything besides my billing information. Ive never received a call back when I gave them my concerns, the only calls Ive received have been about more money being needed. I was represented in court once and spent $10000 and received a bill for $2000 more. I was charged for 8hr of mediation up front and wasnt refunded the 6hrs we ended early. I provided hundreds of photos, records, and screenshots relevant to my case for none to be used. I paid $540 for a transcript Ive never seen. I paid $600 for a private investigator to take a few screenshots online and another $875 to have my lawyer talk about those screenshots. Truly awful experience to beg and plead with someone you hired to do the work you higher them for.

The law firm did a POA Revocation without due diligence!!! The client is mentally unstable and incapable of making financial decisions. The client ended up in the Emergency Room because her heart stopped. The staff with this firm are rude and unprofessional. We are filling a law suit against them for their negligence and abuse of power in regard to the elderly client involved.

Sam and Claire Mehaffey are the real deal! My crazy ex-wife tried to falsely accuse me of hurting my daughter all out of bitterness and jealousy and she withheld her from me during my visitation. Within a week Claire had us in court and got me my daughter back that day. And after learning that I had criminal charges pending against me for the false accusationsI hired Sam Mehaffey Claire s husband and within one day he had a meeting with the criminal prosecutors and had the case rejected. Their prices are very fair and they actually care. I would recommend them to anybody because they get stuff done!!!

For the past 3 years Claire, Phyllis and Shelly worked on my divorce and child custody cases. While at first I tried to work out the divorce with the mother of my kids, she wasn t willing to come to an agreement so I contacted and hired Claire and her team. After a year my divorce was over and the kids stayed with their mother as that was their wish. About a year later, I get a phone call from my daughter saying she wanted to live with me (Her mom and I always said wherever they wanted to live well grant their wish). Mom reluctantly let her move and I had to get legal counsel from Team Claire. I was awarded temp custody for the first year. I wanted to see how my daughter was going to do before I we filed for primary custody. With my daughter doing good and finally coming to her own, I decided it was time to become the custodial parent. After a stressful few months leading to the court hearing, Team Claire made me feel at ease and helped me get custody of my daughter. During those three years, Team Claire answered all questions and concerns I had concerning both cases. Their attention to detail and knowing all the laws made a great impact with being granted custody of my daughter. I couldn t ask for a better Team to represent my kids and I.

As a 23 year old fresh out of college, going to an attorney wasn t the easiest thing to start but Mehaffey Law Firm was amazing and so helpful. It was also very inexpensive and allowed me to make payments according to what I could at the time which was very helpful! Mandy was especially helpful during my time of need and answered all of my millions of question I had for her. She not only helped me professional but as a person who really cared about how things would effect me in my life. She made the process very easy to follow and was there every step of the way! WARNING: DO NOT HIRE THIS ATTORNEY. READ OTHER ONE STAR REVIEWS! I sought legal representation in regard to obtaining custody of my two children. I contacted Claire Mahaffey and paid a retainer fee of $5000. Legal representation was contingent on both parties signing her contract as stated in her legal services contract. However, after I read her contract I could not agree with the non-refundable and replenishable retainer clauses and therefore did not sign it (nor did she). I notified Ms. Mehaffey that I had decided not to hire her. She agreed to refund the retainer and did provide me a refund check. However, when I attempted to deposit it, I discovered that she had stopped payment on it. After all my demands to Ms. Mehaffey to reissue another refund check went unanswered, I was forced to file suit in Small Claims Court. Ms. Mehaffey was attempting to unscrupulously garner $5000 for doing absolutely nothing for a potential client. As advertised on the Justice of the Peace website in Abilene, Texas, that venue was supposed to allow me the opportunity to present my evidence in court that supported my claim for damages without having to incur legal expenses that would easily exceed my retainer paid to Ms. Mehaffey. I was really looking forward to my day in court to present my evidence, however, I was about to learn a hard lesson on how the Small Claims Court actually operated when officers of the court or attorneys are the defendants. A word of advice, do not sue an attorney and then represent yourself in Small Claims Court for the deck is stacked against you. Ms. Mehaffey and her attorney utilized a relatively new rule, called Rule 91a Motion to Dismiss and filed that motion with the court. So instead of having my day in court, a hearing was scheduled to dismiss my case. At the hearing, Ms. Mehaffeys attorney first stated his clients false narrative. Then, Ms. Mehaffeys attorney instructed the judge, who was not an attorney, that Rule 91a does not allow evidence to be presented or referenced at a hearing and that Rule 91a also awards attorney fees if the case is dismissed. I was stunned. I could not present or reference any of my evidence that clearly supported the facts of my claim and clearly disproved Ms. Mehaffeys false narrative. Therefore, it came down to her word against mine. The judge demonstrated obvious bias toward fellow officers of the court or lawyers and ruled in Ms. Mehaffeys favor. He then ordered me to pay her attorney fees of nearly $4000. I, of course, appealed that ruling. Both parties were facing paying thousands in attorney fees for an appeal process and then a trial. So, both parties agreed that Ms. Mehaffey would pay her own attorney fees and I agreed to drop the suit. I was right back where I had started still out the retainer fee paid. It just wasnt worth any more of my time, energy, effort or money. So, I leave you with this advice: seek other council and do not ever bother to sue an attorney in small claims court. Leave it to God to deal with dishonest and unscrupulous attorneys in his own way, learn a lesson and move on in life. God Bless!

I hired Mrs. Mehaffey for a Child Custody case. She and her staff have always been rude and made me feel as if I were annoying for asking questions when I did not understand. she never returned my attempts to contact her and I feel has never had me and my sons best interest in mind. her she lost he 16 year old son around the same time I would have had my final hearing after 2 years of court. I just cant understand how after the horrible situation she had endured with her son she would continue to work in Family Law and continue to not support mothers who hire her to defend them. would never recommend I her. I never got the chance to use her as an attorney. I called for a free consultation because my employer deposited my check into the wrong account and the bank would not help me either. They basically said there was nothing either of them could do. Claire called and did her thing and after waiting a week or longer I was called the next day to pick up my money. I had literally about 20 lawyers not want to take my case for an international Hague convention lawsuit. My husband tried having my 1 year old sent back to Australia after I moved back to Texas. Multiple lawyers blew me off, wouldnt take my calls, and flat out told me to save my money for when I had to go back to Australia and fight for custody there. Claire took on the case for me, with only a week of prep time, and won the case for me to stay in Texas with my son. She was straight up and admitted to not doing a Hague case before but she held her own. She was easy to talk to and I truly appreciate what she did for my family. We are very grateful for her. Shes got more balls than any other lawyer in west Texas.

My wife and went back to court to have a domicile restriction lifted for my stepson, and I didnt know what to expect. Court date came, she was almost late, and woefully underprepared. She didnt appear to have familiarized herself with the basic facts of our case, had a critical witness excluded because she forgot to add him to the list, and pretty much didnt seem to have a strategy or end goal, or even be proficient in asking questions. Unsurprisingly, we lost. Like others, she bolted after court, wouldnt talk to us, and we never heard from her again.

This woman lied to me about a court order being signed and told me not to take my daughter back well come to find out it had not been signed when she said so I was violating my child custody order because of it. She is all nice and acts like she can help untill you pay her then it goes down hill. She wont return calls, when you do get threw her assistant will say she is in court when you can clearly hear her in the back ground. She will not inform you of anything I found out more stuff in the court then I did from her. I could not get ahold of her before court so I went and waited. She showed up less than 5 mins before court and walked out right after and started ignoring my calls. I feel she stole 3500$ from me becuse she did nothing and when asked for an invoice of what I was charged for she refused

Claire took my custody case after it was started by another firm and strung out for a year without results. After retaining Mehaffey and Watson, Claire had us a date set almost immediately. I was super nervous going in to this and Claire and her team were always available to me by phone for the hand holding I needed. They were always patient kind and most of all knowledgeable with me during the whole process. In the end we won. I am a father who now has full custody of my beautiful 8 year old girl. We have been at this for a long time and Claire has always been present and ready for trial. Wish the other side was, but Claire determinedly pushed this through and was victorious in the end. I would recommend her to and family looking for professional kind to the client but hard on the opposition legal help. Very fairly billed.
