Solo lunch today at Dan s. I haven t dined there since 2018 when I retired. Dan & crew were outstanding such a delicious meal. I had sliced brisket sandwich on a toasted wheat bun, mustard potato salad (my favorite absolutely amazing)with all the trimmings. Love the family friendly atmosphere, freshly prepared extensive menu with everyday specials. A Waco tradition most excellent establishment.

I brought my family from England to experience good Texas bbq and we were not disappointed. Delicious food in a clean and authentic atmosphere. The staff were friendly and polite. We even got to meet Uncle Dan himself who is a perfect gentlemen and welcomed my vegan daughter lol! I come here everytime Im in Waco and long may it continue.

Usually I love this place, but slowly thats been changing. Today my husband and I went for lunch. I ordered a lean brisket plate, but caught some attitude when the the girl had to re-cut it as it wasnt cut as lean. When putting her plastic glove on over the meat cutting glove, she adjusted it by the fingers with her other unloved hand. Then touched the brisket, sausage. etc. She also used the same glove to take a headset from the other workers head, to take an order from the drive through. All while wearing the same glove. It was never changed. While checking out, my bread was laying on the pricing sticker; instead of the guy, who was running the register, asking me to move the bread, he just moved it himself with his unloved hand thats been touching cash, his headset, the register etc. It was so hard to not walk out. I think this is our last time here. I really liked this place, been coming since I was a kid.

Inflation must still be high at Uncle Dans! I have been coming here once every other month for over 20 years. I even decided to have our daughters wedding catered by Uncle Dans. I went thru the drive thru since I just worked a 12 hr shift to get my family home dinner Paying 70.00 for 4 plates that did not even add up to two brisket sandwiches just ridiculous. I will not be coming back and I will be canceling their catering of my daughters wedding. I would be embarrassed if they served this at my daughters wedding. Such a shame after being a customer of theirs for so long.

Stopped in today and left feeling very full and satisfied. We went around 4 p.m. and it was nice and quiet, which was a great option with kids. High chairs were available and didnt seem disgusting. I got the turkey and sausage with mac and cheese, and I loved it. Husband got the plate with 4 meats to try with potato salad, and I heard only good things from him. The meats seemed nice and soft. They offer a choice of 3 sauces, including bbq, spicy bbq, or a white sauce. We liked everything except the white sauce. The people were nice. You can refill your drinks at the fountain station, or they have sweet tea. We both got the banana pudding, and it looked questionable at first but tasted amazing. The only disappointment was that the rolls were hard as a rock. They also stated they no longer sell mashed potatoes. Wish they had macaroni salad. The 4 meat plate with 2 sides and bread, 2 meat plate with 2 sides and bread, and 2 desserts with 2 drinks came to $51. This is expected in our opinion with the rise of costs everywhere, and it seemed cheaper than other BBQ joints we have been to in Waco. All the tables and floors looked clean. Drive-thru available. We will be back! Parking: Back of building parking Kid-friendliness: Plenty of seating to choose a spot away from others. Toddler was picky about bbq sauce but you dont have to get bbq sauce. They liked the mac and cheese and banana pudding as well as the TVs. I saw saw kids worksheets/coloring sheets when walking in but didnt see crayons. However, we didnt ask about crayons. They have high chairs and boosters. If your kids like fries...I didnt see any options for that.

1st off let me start off by saying I was hungry as a mug when I went here to eat. I normally dont buy bbq from places but I was not at all disappointed in this place. The service was great the atmosphere was nice. The food even better than that. I git a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw backed beans and a sweet tea. Now most places the sweet tea is liquid diabetes. This was not and I love them for that. I dont like it super sweet. The sandwich was completed and complimentary to the sides. Im full and would definitely be a repeat customer. Go check them out.

In the words of Alan Jackson, it aint like momma fixed it. Hell, it aint like the Sodexo public school lunch lady fixed it. I have never consumed worse barbecue than at Uncle Dans. Inedible. Bad potlucks, home cooking fiascos, and frozen take-home pulled pork all put this establishment to shame. They dont even compensate with a charming atmosphere. You get your tray filled like its middle school and get to sit in one of the more mid dining rooms in central Texas. I only visited this restaurant because it was the location for a Saturday morning licensure class, and will never be returning. Do yourself a favor and visit your local Cefco for better barbecue and atmosphere (though Helbergs is really the only place to go for barbecue in Waco). Easily the worst restaurant Ive been to in central Texas.

If you appreciate good BBQ, and I mean BBQ that has been cooked right, this is not the place to go. Sub par and not good at all. Brisket is rubbery and jelly like. Sausage has no flavor, and everything tastes awful. If you re in Waco and want BBQ, Jaspers is the place to go.

We just got done eating here for the first time when passing through Waco. Out of the hundreds of BBQ places I have ate at in Texas over the years, this is definitely in my top 10 for food taste and service. The place was clean and food was delicious. We had brisket (sliced and chopped)... turkey... ham... sausage... and tasty sides of baked beans. Next time I will try the ribs which I overheard others mentioning were good. I would recommend this place to anyone and will be coming back again myself.

My husband and I picked up an online order yesterday, 04/11/2024 at the Lakeair location in Waco, TX. We got 2 chopped beef sandwiches, and 2 banana puddings. When I picked up the bun to eat it fell apart because it was so soggy and greasy. The banana pudding is AWFUL! Taste dry and like it is weeks old. I am so very disappointed and will be going somewhere else that actually cares about the food they serve.

A tour of Texas is 4 very small portions of your choice of meat for $20 with two sides. After a drink and a suggested tip, it was pushing $30 for a small plate of BBQ. It almost seems like youre paying more for the variety vs the extra meat.... The rib, yes you only get 1 rib when you tour Texas, was fantastic. The pulled pork was dry, the smoked ham was good, the brisket was dry. Overall just another overpriced Texas BBQ joint that may wow you from time to time but generally youre not getting the value for your money. Everyone was pleasant inside but it was also quite dead for 7pm on a Saturday night.

When I said thank you, they never said welcome. They just stared at me. Or maybe they didnt hear me. The lady who slices the brisket and the lady who does the sides have an attitude on two occasions. Hey yall, I had a chance to go through their drive through the other day. I havent been there in a while. Things have changed! What I wanted was 2 chopped BBQ sandwiches. But what I got was food good enough for my dogs. I got two plates exactly the same on both. When I placed my order I saw a sign that said white potato salad or something other kind of potato salad. Well, I chose the white potato salad. In WHAT TEXAS UNIVERSE is their version of potato salad, the Texas way of white potato salad. Theirs looked like a cow done been chewing on it for awhile and then spit it back out into that cup. Enough of that. You want to talk dinner rolls, I got 4 of them. 2 on each plate. Now, I know yall cant tell but them rolls where some rolls that Ellie Mae made! Hard as a rock!!!!! Really could not eat them. Lets go on from here and get to the star of the show..... the BBQ!! Texas Best! I saw another sign,they had signs every where. I was to busy looking at the signs and trying to obey what the BBQ GOD had spoken through a sign. Man, dont want to piss them off! I saw another sign that read great deal 2 BBQ plates plus 2sides for $9.99. So, I did me some chewing and decided that was a pretty good deal. Lets put a pin in this.... if a farmer selling you that old horse and he keeps on showing you the back end of that horse. Well, chances are there is something wrong with the front end of that horse. And I feel thats just what was going on. When I got home and looked at that meat( they used the word Blended meat) and I asked what that that was. And the white hair man told that it meant that the BBQ meat was chopped up and BBQ sauce was added to the meat. Now,that dont sound so bad. He/ They Lied, they all did! To me it looked like theblended part was old pork left over from the past week, that hadnt sold. SO, they put a big sign on it and move it one step closer to the trash cans!!!!!! What has, for most of my entire Life been one of the best BBQ places in my area, just completely dropped the ball on one of its most signature dishes....The Texas Tater. For DECADES this hallmark of exquisite cuisine has remained unchanged and never failed to satisfy. Until today. When they sent me an enormous uncooked potato. Who cut into this and thought, Oh yes. This is done!? I knew the quality had been slipping the past few years but I didnt think anyone could screw up a baked potato. What has been, for almost my entire 46 years on this Earth something I would devour with glee, not even my Dog will touch. My Dog eats his own poop from time to time. Why Uncle Dans? Why? Not even my microwave could salvage this dumpster fire of a potato I was given. Ill just cook at home next time. Extremely dissatisfied. I never thought Id say this but here it is, Do not eat at Uncle Dans any longer. They dont care about their food. PS The Cherry Flavored Cardboard was a nice touch!

The quality seems to have been going down over the years and the portions shrinking. I got a 2 meat plate (lean brisket and sausage) and was very disspointed in the size and the brisket grissle wasnt trimmed. I asked the clerk about the portion sizes and she was very polite and said I get 1/3 lb total for a 2 meat plate. For $16 I was hoping for a little more.

When I first came here a few months ago I absolutely loved it so I was very excited to go back today when I was passing through Waco I was looking at the menu when a polite voice acknowled my presence at the speaker I was asked would I like to try the special for today it was buy one get one half off tatar I said yes right away I then asked was it loaded she began to explain what was in the bake potato I was so ready to eat my food i was going to have this to eat all day we made it down the hwy about 15 minutes i was like i got to eat some of this now i cant wait to get home i opened up the bag an i saw something running in the bag a little i was like whats this i opened the foam container and my food is saturated in barbeque sauce the whole container I was like oh my goodness I called and asked was this supposed to be this way the lady said yes I was like I wouldnt have gotten it if I knew about the sauce it was nasty I cant even taste the food over all the sauce Ive never had a loaded bake potato with sauce all over it they normally have it on the side I wasted my money an now have to buy something else to eat i dont like barbecue sauce if the lady would have mentioned it when she named everything else I would have had the opportunity to decline the sauce they do have great food but today I couldnt enjoy it

2 star review as of 7/31/2023- The chopped brisket sandwich was overly greasy and the sides now taste like they re store-bought and bad. The potato salad tasted like the potatoes are raw. Also, now certain meats aren t available on the two meat plate, that have been available on the two meat plate for at least a year? Ok Sad to say Uncle Dan s is going downhill and fast. 5 star review from 2 years ago- I ve enjoyed Uncle Dan s for as long as I can remember. We ordered a to go order and when the door dash guy got there they were out of two of the things we ordered. Then when the food got back to us, of the two pounds of meat we ordered pulled pork and brisket. The brisket was all fat and oil. Needless to say this was a huge disappointment. I called and complained and was offered a credit for next time we are in town. No thanks. The beans tasted like regular Bushes canned beans. We always see how good Texas brisket is on YouTube and being from Kansas City we thought it would compete. See picture of our Brisket .

I enjoyed Uncle Dans. I had the Texas Tour (4 meats and 2 sides) brisket, spare ribs, chicken, and turkey, with slaw and potato salad. Everything was very good. Ill definitely return when in the area!

The food here was simply not good. The meats were alright, but theyre honestly hard to mess up. The baked beans and Mac and cheese were both a bit cold and lacking of flavor. The sauce was once again, just not good. The only good things was the rolls, which probably werent even made in house. Dont be fooled into choosing here for BBQ in Waco

Brisket, potato salad, and rolls were great but the banana pudding was horrible. I ordered a quart and the presentation was sickening. It looked like someone had barfed it back up after eating it. The cookies, bananas,and pudding was all mixed up and I could not eat it. I was very disappointed. This was for a birthday party and was requested instead of a cake. That banana pudding was a waste of money. I will never do that again.

In Waco from out of town and didnt know of any bbq places, so Google showed us Uncle Dans. We were after the noon hour on a Friday, so there was no line. Food was good. Didnt partake of a wide variety but appetite was satisfied. Service was very good at the counter and after eating as a gentleman politely offered to clear the table for us as we were finishing up.

We had a great experience with Uncle Dans. We had a sudden death in the family, and had to schedule a celebration of life quickly, and from out of state. Uncle Dans was very accommodating, easy to work with, and the day of, the room they provided was great, large family-sized, clean, and the food and service was fantastic. If Im in the area again, I will definitely pay a visit to Uncle Dans.
