Unfortunately the food was not good. No seasoning on vegetables - the lamp was old tasting a very simple rice with fish. The atmosphere was great though. We have a lot of experience in food restaurants. No recommendations for the food at this place.

My husband and I came here for date night. Very romantic setting. Our waiter was very informative, he recommended his favorites as well as customer favorites. We had the saganaki flaming cheese, 1424 Wellington, Chicken Piccata, and Ceasar salad. Drinks were Long Island Ice Tea and a Lemon Drop Martini. Everything was exceptional! Prices were exactly as expected for the quality of food and service. Appetizer, salad, 2 entrees and 2 alcoholic drinks was a little over $100. Will definitely go back to try something different! Im sure kids are welcome but I wouldnt take children. Menu is geared to adults. Perfect place for dates.

1424 is one of our favorite places for date night. It is a very romantic atmosphere. We love the specialty drinks and the food is great. Love the Rambotini. It is a perfectly balanced Mexican martini that is olive based. They also have the best choice of fresh seafood in town. I love the orange roughy and seafood curry. My husband loves the lamb shank. So tender it falls off the bone and the way it is prepared is amazing on flavor. Always daily fresh baked bread and best Caesar salad ever. Dorothy and Maria are the best! This place is a must! Dietary restrictions: All the dishes I order do not have monosodium glutamate.

Servers didn t introduce evening specials, (overheard other server at neighboring table. Sounded delicious). Chicken piccata is sad. Paper thin about 3-4 oz of chicken with bland linguini. Fettuccine Alfredo tastes like it was made of ONLY Béchamel sauce. Nutmeg and parmigiana was the only flavors coming through. Filet was cooked nice We will try again.

Waco, TX has a few surprises up its sleeve, and 1424 Bistro is one of them! I was looking for a place to go, and I could not find what I was looking for. I am so glad I stumbled on 1424 Bristro. It is a great vibe in there! The host and server staff are top-notch quality people who not only know their stuff, but who take pride in their restaurant. The quality of the food and its preparation was surprisingly good. They present a fantastic drink menu as well. 1424 Bristro has an upscale feel made for the everyday person. When traveling through Waco, TX and looking for a great meal, 1424 Bristro is a must try!

Had a phenomenal time at this restaurant w my significant other. Their twist on beef wellington was the only thing that threw me off due to the Greek style, however, I absolutely loved everything else. I reccomend. The staff and the people around us were very sweet and super friendly. I felt like a native eating here. My bf had the roasted lamb shank but didnt know how to order it so he didnt care for it.

My husband brought me here for my birthday. It was very romantic now to the flod. -My husband said his fettuccini was just alright. He doesnt usually fuss. -The shrimp scampi pasta is very bland mostly just parsley and olive oil. -Chilean seabass was DELICIOUS Now to the unfortunate part: I ordered the white chocolate breadpudding. Did not list nutmeg on the description. My husband tasted it but he was feeling sick and said he wasnt interested. I took one bite and IMMEDIATELY told our waitress i tasted nutmeg (im allergic and my throat swells). I recognized it right away and confirmed it sure was nutmeg. Obviously I wouldnt have ordered it if it said white chocolate with nutmeg. She said her manager said it could not be removed from our bill because it was half eaten which is literally impossible because my husband was sick and hardly ate his own food and only took a bite and I took one small bite and tasted the nutmeg and gave it back. For reference, it came in a square piece and still had the fruit and whipped cream on top and was NOT a rectangled or halved. Then the waitress said she already threw it away. Why toss it before the verdict? Could have given it to our kids then if they had an issue removing it. Also the waitress said that I was supposed to tell her im allergic to nutmeg. The white chocolate pudding did not have nutmeg ANYWHERE on the description otherwise I would have. Awful service to have on my birthday. Definitely would not recommend. Servers name was Gizelle. She also cried because we said we wont be tipping due to us paying for food we didnt eat. Waste of time. So sad because it was an almost perfect night loved the atmosphere. Oh well Dietary restrictions: They do not list all ingredients on the menu

The food was very bland and overpriced. Things were undersalted and low quality. The Wellington is not Wellington; it is overcooked strips of beef on top of a burnt piece of puff pastry. The mashed potatoes have approximately 1 gram of cream and half their weight in garlic; one could form a throwable snowball of them if you wanted to with how thick they were. The butter for the bread was way too sweet and tasted more of icing. The salt we had to ask for was McCormick plastic grinders. The sirloin was okay. The interior decorating was good. Service was appropriate for our large group.

After a business trip to Fort Worth concluded, on the way back home to Austin, I decided to stay the night in Waco. While there, I enjoyed a delicious meal in this hidden gem, 1424 Bistro, fit for a romantic evening for any couple. The service was exceptional and timed perfectly. Anissa, the bartender was very professional with her recommendations, and I was immensely impressed by her knowledge of running any sector of a restaurant. My selections for the evening included several new special appetizers and a Chefs Special Entrée which paired perfectly with a Pinot Noir from 1424s new Wine Menu. I very much enjoyed the traditional Greek selections for appetizers which were the grape leaf wrapped Dolmades served with a delicious Tzatziki sauce and the Kasseri Cheese served flambé style at table. Also, I enjoyed several of the Fried cheese portions as a side. The Bone-in Pork chop was cooked perfectly and adequately balanced with the delicious serving of garlic mashed potatoes and mixed vegetable medley. For dessert, I enjoyed a Vanilla Crème Brûlée that was fired perfectly to form a crisp and sweetened crust and garnished deliciously with blueberries and strawberries. To finish, the bartender and owner got creative on the spot with a Tiramisu Martini and let me try this as it is a newly developed bar drink. The atmosphere was eclectic and definitely a vibe to be enjoyed by anyone who appreciates delicious food that is reasonably priced and expertly prepared with an attention to detail that was unexpected, but a delight to experience. Live music, as I understand, is an added bonus for an enjoyable night. I must say, I will be bringing my girlfriend back to this perfect spot for a lovely evening away from the big city.

My first experience with 1424 Bistro was almost 10 years ago and after returning for a dinner, I am elated to say, the standards of excellence have not changed. Fresh, local ingredients, knowledgeable & friendly staff, and a menu that stands the test of time. Seared scallops on the half shell, and a pan seared orange roughy with a lemon dill sauce finished succulent crab meat.

I found this place online and visited for my anniversary is out town about one hour. And when we arrived, it was nice since I reserved my table. I didnt have to wait. The atmosphere was kind of romantic,I order Some soup they were amazing And Their Butter sweet Very Good, Calamares were too sagging not Not crunchy... BUT for my entree I order Alfredo with Chicken and they were so salty... That I couldnt eat them So When Our server came to the table after 20 min she was not attentive, I told her I couldnt eat my spaqueties Bc They were too salty and I am hungry. And she did not offer any help at least to fix it. so I can eat what I am paying. She said Do you want a To go Box... Really? I couldnt believe it. I paid my ticket. Even though I did not eat my plate .we spent $135.00, and I left without eating an entree. I will never come back Bc The services Bc To Have a Restaurant Not only the food has to be good but also the service. I hope this review saves you some money.

First time customers (my aunt and myself). A quiet and quaint restaurant with a soft ambiance. We started with calamari and shrimp bisque. Both were amazing however the temp of the bisque was not hot enough. The calamari on the other hand was mind blowing. Auntie Kells had a Margarita. I had a vodka martini. Her main course was chicken piccata while mine was an unbelievable roasted lamb shank. The mashed potatoes with mine had a creamy buttery flavor. All of the vegetables are fresh ! NOTHING out of a can. Even the butter was artisan with wildflower honey and star of anise. CT was my waiter. We shared some stories and I enjoyed his company. He is amazing and we shall continue to support 1424 moving forward.

We had the lemon drop, coconut rum margarita and a dirty martini. This place is pricey but very nice for a special occasion. Give it a try . The service was fantastic as well.

This is the best fine dining in Waco without a doubt. The pear martini is amazing, ask for it spicy. The steak was really good, not flawless though it had a bit too much char and not enough salt but it was tender and topped with delicious seafood.. I should clarify that I am extremely picky about meat quality so I have a very high bar. The tomato blue cheese appetizer was the best thing Ive eaten in the last month and Im not typically a big fan of blue cheese. I did not like the flaming cheese thing it was a bit funky although pretty to watch it lit on fire. Scallops and shrimp were cooked very nicely, no complaints. The stuffed portabella mushroom sounded good but was difficult to cut and wasnt that crazy about the filling which was similar to a lasagna. Our server, who I think was also the bartender, was extremely nice and talented.. she really couldnt have been any better I dont think. I cant wait to go back and try some different dishes but you can bet ill be ordering that blue cheese tomato appetizer again (not on the menu)

I m not the kind to typically leave a review, and I usually cringe at how unfair reviews tend to be, but I feel like our experience tonight warrants a review, but first I want to preface with saying how pleasant the staff and atmosphere was, this review is no reflection on them or the building/decor. We were very excited to try a new spot for our weekly date night, and were quite delighted to hear that on a Friday night in Waco, there was no wait, a big positive. When we arrived, we were greeted by extremely friendly staff who opened the door for us and sat us immediately. Looking over the menu, we took note of the steep prices, but considering the high reviews, we were ok with it. We decided on a Caesar salad and calamari for appetizer, and to say the least the salad was probably the best part of the meal. The calamari felt slightly under cooked, and the breading was soggy. For our entrees we chose Beef Wellington and Scallop Scampi, both $29 dishes. Again, we don t usually spend a lot on eating out but seeing the high reviews we had very high expectations and felt that it would be worth it. Long story short, it was sadly not worth it in the least. The beef Wellington was ok, but the scallop Scampi was oily, flavorless, and the scallops were slightly undercooked in my opinion. These are things that wouldn t bother me usually, but considering the near $30 price tag, we were very disappointed. After leaving, we both agreed that not only were we disappointed, but we didn t (and don t) feel good at all, in fact we rushed home after having to run an errand to take an activated charcoal. So I say all this not to try and convince people not to go to 1424, but I do want people to have a fair representation from the less than favorable side. Anyways, the staff and atmosphere were an easy 5/5, but the food unfortunately was 2/5. Hopefully this experience was not a common experience.

I was invited to a birthday dinner here for my sister, and the service was horrible. We waited more than 2 and a half hrs for our food. It had taken an hour and a half just to get the appetizer. The waiters were slow on refills. They made us pay for plates for the cake we brought which didnt make any sense, but for us not to be billed for the plates. They give us to go containers to put our cake in. The waiter also brought an extra plate of food out that wasnt ordered by anyone in our party and charged my sister for it and she made it clear to the manager, the food didnt belong to us; they charged her anyway. It took them another hour or more to cash us out. This was a very exhausting night and wasnt a celebrations anymore due to horrible service. It almost felt like we were being discriminated against, yes I said it. I will not be back, not even for a date night.

After waiting at least 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order we had choose the house margarita. The person taking the order offered the change to a better tequila for a small up charge and we agreed. Drinks arrived and then another long wait to order our food. As we waited a for our food to come out we watched several other tables get their food faster, and most had arrived after we had. The food was ok, nothing special, some was not very hot for the wait we had. We had asked for the check and going over the charges, the drinks had almost doubled in price from what the menu stated. After asking the waitress about it they tried to explain the multiple charges and new price. I went back to the register so she could show the charges. They did remove the additional charge for mixes, but did not change the drink charge. I would make sure if you try this place be sure to look at receipt for what they charge.

Food was pretty good, service was great. Parking is a bit limited, I highly suggest you find somewhere nearby to park and walk the rest of the way. Additionally this place is fairly loud. While the inside is well furnished and clean, there are no soft surfaces to dampen sound so it is just loud the whole time. The house wine was quite good. The sides were weirdly portioned ($7 for 4 small pieces of broccoli) so I suggest the dishes that have more than a simple item. Our dessert was pretty good, and there was a good variety across the menus.

Very good, interesting experience. The food was excellent and served very quickly on a relatively busy Saturday around 8 o clock. The halibut was perfectly cooked and its sweet pepper sauce complimented it. The highlight was the chocolate creme brûlée (perfect consistency, hot on top, cold on bottom). The service provided for an amusing conversation but what you would expect for a small college town (obviously not on par with metro areas like DFW or Houston).

***Update. We went back recently and it was better. Bumping up the stars just a bit.*** Usually 1424 is pretty good, but had a disappointing experience a couple of weekends ago. Brought my brother and sister in law and we talked the place up. Big mistake. My wife and I ordered identical fish plates. My plate had about 2 ounces of fish, and here had about 4 ounces. Zero portion consistency on the exact same dish. My brother and sister in law shared a plate, and it was tiny, half a chicken breast. We were convinced they split the order in the kitchen and didn t bring out the other part of it. Not sure any of us will be back any time soon. Especially for the money they ask.

Some friends and I ate there Friday night and it was outstanding. There is no place in Waco to order Halibut and the chef made it exactly like I like it, crisp, lemon and butter. The service was wonderful and the house was full but most enjoyable. It was my first time there and my friends had been there many times before and obviously, love it. Thank you, 1424 Bistro, for a memorable dinner. I love it!

My wife and I tried this place for dinner last night, we started with calamari and a stuffed mushroom as appetizers. Both were terrible, especially considering the price. Our calamari came out soggy and a mangled mess of tangled whole uncut squids. If I picked up one piece I picked up the whole basket because of the tangled mess of tentacles . Not to mention it tasted like it just came out of the freezer. Our stuffed mushroom was also pretty bad. Poor flavor, stuffed with a pool of cheap pizza sauce. Both items displayed on a sad looking piece of lettuce. They also serve bread at the start of the service. Bread so cheap and light you can t even spread the prepackaged butter (like at IHOP). Needless to say we didn t stick around for entrees. They were far overpriced considering the quality of the apps. We drove to chic-fil-a. 2 unfinished apps and half a bottle of wine all for around $80. Disappointing experience. Staff all seemed nice, and the ambiance is great. This restaurant could have a lot going for them if they tried.

Quiet, unique and wonderful customer service. My son and I had the Curry scallops and they were cooked to perfection! Usually I am hesitant to order scallops because they are often overcooked. This was not the case here. Oh and the Caramel Martini was wonderful! I thought it would be sweet but it was a lovely balance. My husband had the Lamb Shank and it was so tender that it fell off the bone. He gave me a bite and it was so tender and had a delicious flavor! Overall a great dining experience!

Nearly killed my husband (who has a seafood allergy) by cross contaminating his plain Alfredo. They were incredibly rude and unprofessional when the issue was brought to their attention Edit// when someone orders plain Alfredo, they expect it to be plain- it was your duty of care to ensure it that way. He never got anywhere near my food. Also, I tasted his Alfredo and here was definitely shrimp in it. I don t care how many years of experience you have in an industry, if you nearly kill someone, I expect an apology as a basic first step. Instead you became defensive, hostile, and even hung up on me!

Broccoli was hammered, Caesar was a total call-in... Best part of the $30+ steak dish was the sautéed mushrooms I negotiated to get. #meh

Very upset about this dining experience and nobody seemed to care. To begin with, I discreetly asked the hostess over the phone while making the initial reservation if they could provide a surprise birthday dessert for my girlfriend and was told all I have to do is order a dessert after dinner and it would be handled. Upon arrival, the hostess asked loudly are you here for the birthday thing? and ruined the surprise. Upsetting. Fair enough. On to the food. Food was expensive for the sake of expense, and not any better tasting than food one might get at a chain restaurant. The calamari was $16-19 and was mostly breading and not particularly tasty. Had to cover it liberally with lemon to enjoy it. The chicken picatta was bone dry and once again...tasted lesser than one might find at Olive Garden variety. At twice the cost. I wish the ownership would step up and accommodate me by reimbursing me the $120 that i spent on this disappointing birthday meal for two so i could take her somewhere better.... I run a local business as well and i know people have a choice, and if my customers are not satisfied they get a refund. Period. But alas, I will hold not my breath.

So starting off with the positive, the appetizer of mussels was excellent. It was a good sized portion - and it should be considering the $30 price. The rest of the meal was well below average. Their special of stuffed mahi-mahi was tough and just not very good. The signature dish of 1424 Wellington was pretty awful. The meat was cut so thin that asking how we would like it cooked was pure theatrics. I would not come here again nor would I recommend it.

Went here on a Thursday night and enjoyed a mostly empty restaurant. No carpeting or soft surfaces to speak of, so I imagine it gets pretty loud when full to capacity. The food was good, although a little lukewarm. Our waitress was attentive enough. I had plenty to eat but was surprised at only getting 4 scallops, given the prices. The orange flavor wasn t strong at all, so I was a little disappointed with that. My husband liked his steak. The vegetables were delicious. We ordered the stuffed mushroom for an appetizer and it was okay. We ll probably get something different next time. Really like the brickwork inside. Nice ambiance.
