Absolutely delicious. We love this place. It s our date-night place. Love this type of setup for an expensive steak/date-night meal, apps, meat, shareable sides, etc. However, it s not perfect - the last time we went, all the food was slightly over cooked. Medium steak was medium well. Medium rare steak was medium. Got the tomato soup as an app, it was too much; too much soup and too chunky. My husband got another soup and it was alright. In the past we d gotten the crab cake as an app, which is fabulous, just not much; but it s fine. I usually get the filet mignon, husband gets the ribeye of some sort; we re both happy. For sides we do the potatoes and Brussels. Both delicious. If you ask for the drink specials you re going to get a 30 min spoken novel. You should ask if they have a menu for that, or order what you like. I can t remember with 100% certainty but I think Matt is the name of the server we ve had on our best times there; definitely worth the ask.

Matt was an amazing waiter, we felt welcome and taken care of. Food... everything was delicious, except the steaks. Under cooked on the inside and burnt on the outside. When our son in law asked them to cook a little longer, it came back hot, still the same rawness. (Both my husband and son in law ordered the dry aged beef.) For the $$ charged, not at all worth it. Sea bass, crab cakes, sides, starters and drinks were great. 4 of us ate for $600 (without tip) for that kind of $, we expected more. Might go back for lunch or to sit at the bar. Will NOT order a steak. Prime 102, you can do better!

Prime 102 in downtown Tyler offers a perfect blend of elegance and comfort. The ambiance is refined yet relaxed, making it ideal for both casual and business meals. Despite many people coming into eat, the restaurant maintains a serene and inviting atmosphere. The culinary journey at Prime 102 begins with the Tuna Tartare, a dish that sets the tone for what s to come: impeccable flavors and exquisite presentation. The Ten Burger, accompanied by Parmesan truffle fries and a delectable garlic aioli, is nothing short of a revelation. The burger s patty, thick and cooked to perfection, delivers a flavor profile that lingers long after the last bite. For dessert, the bread cake with house-made ice cream is a delightful end to the meal, with its crispy crust and soft, flavorful interior. Service at Prime 102 is where the experience truly shines. Kevin, my server, exemplified what attentive and knowledgeable service should be. He s been there a long time and knows his stuff. The personal touch added by Peri and Steve, who are stewards of the restaurant , both took the time to ensure my dining experience was flawless, elevated the meal to something memorable. I highly recommend Prime 102, whether for a business lunch or simply to enjoy a superb meal. With such a remarkable lunch experience, I am already planning my return to explore their dinner offerings. This is a dining destination that promises to impress and deliver on every level. Parking: The best place to park for lunch is in the parking garage across from the library. After 5, you can park behind the building or in the square. It s all free parking after 5.

Drinks are a very short pour for what you pay. if you want great service and atmosphere this is your place ** Update** Steve made things right. He cares about his clients and wants them to have an amazing time. We will definitely give this place another chance.

One of the best restaurant meals that we have had in a while. They were knowledgeable about what items had gluten which was a great relief. The pork belly appetizer was a wonderful beginning along with their azalea cosmo. We then had steak, sea bass, potato puree, beef braised mushrooms and a side of scallops. A bite of steak, mushroom and scallop is, chefs kiss! Everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. We are from Louisiana and love to try local restaurants when we travel. We often wish therr was more flavor but we were not disappointed here. Staff was attentive and personable. I was worried we were underdressed as we hadnt planned on stopping anywhere nice but it wasnt a problem. Wonderful experience and I cant wait to travel through Tyler again.

We are from out of town. We had a bad experience at a hip place across the street. Terrible service and attitude and rib-eye was terrible. We decided the next night to try Prime 102. We ordered exactly the same items caesar salad, pork belly, rib-eye and gimlets. Prime 102s quality far surpassed the hip place for every item. Fantastic and the service was impeccable! My wife and I really enjoy sitting at the bar and having a really nice lunch. We have been here around 20 times over the past few years, and we are glad to have a spot like this in Tyler. We love the Prime 102 burger with the truffle fries, New Orleans BBQ shrimp, tuna tartare, and CRAB CAKES. All of the food items are good from here. The crab cake is the best Ive had in Texas. Job well done. We have never had a bad experience here, and the bartenders are always friendly. The crab cake is not listed on the bar menu, but you can still get it. Did I mention CRAB CAKE?

I was very impressed by Prime 102. The service was impeccable and it was frankly the best steak Ive ever had. I generally use steak sauce and I always thought it was because I enjoy the flavor, but after the ribeye at Prime 102, I realize it is because Ive not had a properly seasoned/grilled steak, at least to my palate. The cost is high, but well worth going for special occasions.

Prime 102 is our go-to restaurant in Tyler for special nights. We ve always been well-pleased, until tonight. The food was excellent as usual. However, tonight s service was very disappointing. Service is what sets fine dining apart from average dining. I asked to substitute an item on the entree, but was told it was not possible. Our appetizer arrived long before our cocktails and our entree arrived long before the wine we ordered to go with the entree. Usually we would have ordered dessert and coffee, but given the length of time we had already waited for other courses, we opted not to. It was a disappointing evening. Edit: I would like to give an update to my previous review. We were contacted by the owner who was genuinely concerned that our dining experience was not up to par. She assured us the problem would be addressed and corrected. Kudos to her for a professional follow-up. We will definitely go back.

On the day of the eclipse, 8Apr2024, I proposed to my Girlfriend during the eclipse at Sulphur Springs and on our way back to Austin we wanted to celebrate at a classy restaurant. Mission accomplished! We couldn t be happier with Prime 102. I am a steak man and tried the 45 day dry aged ribeye medium rare. Was cooked to perfection. My lady had the double cut pork chop and it was delicious and tender. The attention to detail at this location is outstanding. The starter bread is amazing, croissant like. We enjoyed the pork belly and the jumbo lump crab cake compares to top Baltimore entrees. We ended the evening with the butter cake topped with ice cream and was the perfect end to our meal. Our server, Matt, helped make our evening a night we will always remember. It was a proper celebration. Thank you Matt and Prime 102! I highly recommend this restaurant, especially for celebratory occasions.

I really don t understand why the reviews of this place look so good but I was so disappointed. We ordered 45 day dry aged steak and it was expensive. Then it tasted like a rotten meat and i only took several bites. I was sick for the whole night after eating that. I gave the leftovers to my dog and even he had diarrhea . It was the worst steak I ever had and this meal cost $290 for two. The service was very slow on Thursday. I was very disappointed. The crab cake was good, but it only comes in one small crab cake for 2 person.

This is the Alpha and the Omega of steakhouses. You need go no further. My wife and I visited this wonderful establishment that is located in the beautifully restored historic Peoples Petroleum Building. As we walked up the marble stairs we could not help but admire the 30s architecture. We were sat down and immediately greeted by Mrs Barnhart, one of the wonderful co-owners. We were both amazed by how sophisticated this restaurant feels, yet the staff still provides all the hospitality you expect from true Texans. The food is other worldly! I have been to many steakhouses throughout this nation and this is truly the best one I have ever experienced. You have spoiled us and now I compare every other steakhouse to Prime 102. The bread they bring to the table is the the best I have ever had at any restaurant. The filet was melt in your mouth incredible. The flavor and texture was amazing. The asparagus was perfectly cooked with just enough crunch, but not too much. And finally, the bread pudding is just WOW! If you are in Tyler or plan on visiting, this is a must visit. You will be glad you did. Thank you to the Barnharts and our wait staff for such a great experience. And last, but definitely not least, thank you to the chef for such a great culinary experience. We will be back soon!

Wanted to try a restaurant for our anniversary that we ve never been to, so we chose this one. The only thing good was the bread. The wedge salad had way too much dressing on it and overall very tasteless, I ordered the sea bass which was a thick piece of fish, but it had absolutely no flavor. It had me searching for a salt and pepper shaker, but there weren t any to be found. Also ordered the potato casserole but couldn t eat that as the potatoes were crunchy. My husband had the special NY Strip which was also flavorless. We spent $200 for a meal that left us both disappointed and hungry.

My wife and I have been there twice and it has been fantastic both times. Tyler finally has a restaurant with ample floor service to make sure water is filled, food was cooked properly, and to check on the general status of the patrons. The red meat (12 Oz fillet both times) was on point. The truffle Parmesan fries, Brussels, and pork belly app were huge hits. The salt block Wagyu was tasty and fun. The wine list has grown since the first time we went, so we were able to enjoy a nice Cab at a not insane mark up. Highly recommend.

Where to begin... Tyler is an enigma. Theres quite a population, but not much in the way of high end food. Lots of money but not much in the way of decent palettes. Prime is supposed to be THE high end steak house, yet if youve been to any high end Steakhouses in Dallas it falls short in comparison. The atmosphere is decent, and but thats where it stops. The value to product ratio is severely lacking. The steak is decent, but they cant cook a potato to save their lives. Even the specialty potato dish they offer is Sub-Par. Its difficult to understand how anywhere gets away with charging what they do. The wait staff is decent, but vehemently sticks by what is an inferior product. My family has been in Tyler for a long time, and is disappointed culinarily in whats available. Yall can do better, yet just care in doing the minimum to get by. Its sad...

The service and atmosphere definitely outshined the food. I ordered a 20oz New York Strip medium. It came out a little more done than anticipated, to the medium well range, and the quality of the steak itself was rather lacking. It was a bit tough considering this to be a higher end steakhouse. The side portions (asparagus and carrots) were small to say the least. The wedge salad was good, although it was not a traditional wedge salad. There was no wedge, nor was there any reduction sauce on the salad. With that being said, it was decent, earning a 6/10 for wedge salads. Considering the price of the meal itself, this place disappointed. Having been to many finer quality steakhouses, I would rank this place in the lower/mid-range (at best) category.

Extremely rude Managment and terrible customer service. So rude I question if my interaction wasnt racially motivated. We had a reservation and were there early so we went to the bar to have a drink. While we were there the Bartender encouraged us to sit there and continue to enjoy the evening and have dinner at the bar. I went to tell the Host about what we were gonna do and she was more rude the second time and insisted we sit in the dinning room. I said we were staying in the bar and kindly asked her to calm down as people were starting to stare. The Manager came over to the bar and felt he was enjoying the confrontation as he told us to leave if we did not like the policy. Extremely rude and I think racist!

We absolutely LOVE Prime 102!!! First, it is such a special feel you get walking up the marble steps to be greeted by Perri and her hostesses. They are always smiling and engaging. Next, there is not a bad seat in the house. We have been in one of their booths, and, last night, at a four top table. We did not feel cramped, and felt like we could focus on each other, and our conversation. Also, the food is perfectly cooked, and a nice variety for people to choose from. From the crab & corn chowder to my 16 Oz ribeye Oscar style, I could not have asked for a better meal! My wife got the pork chop and brussel sprouts, which she is still talking about this morning. We split their #1dessert, and it was a perfect cap to the evening. Finally, the service...saving the best for last! After chatting with Perri for a few minutes, Gaby treated us like we were her only table! She was timely, without being pushy or intrusive. She had a true smile, and she took her time with us. Her recommendations from drinks to food were spot on! All in all, it was a great date night for me and my bride of almost 32 years. We will be back again and again. Thank you to Perri & Steve and their wonderful team!!

My wife of two hours and I had just left our wedding reception on Thursday evening and were famished! We walked across the street from our hotel to Prime 102 for a late night meal. Peri & Steve ( the owners) approached our table to ask if congratulations were in order as my bride and I were still in our wedding attire. They congratulated us and inquired about our evening and thanked us profusely for dining with them on our special day. Throughout the evening every server at one time or another stopped by to pay compliments on my wife s beauty and the occasion! Scott, our server, was prompt with service, spoke just enough to be polite, but not so much he over stayed his welcome. The service and meal were impeccable and the staff and owners were so gracious. Thank you Prime 102 for capping off a WONDERFUL WEDDING day! Sincerely- Jim & Nyla Storms

I ordered a New York Sour at the Corner Bar. A New York Sour is only a one step variation from a very common whiskey cocktail (Whiskey Sour). Upon receiving my drink, the New York Sour was nothing like it is supposed to be. My drink was served in a stemmed glass with no ice and the port wine pour over was improperly mixed in. I sent it back and I ordered a glass of wine instead. Upon leaving the bar, the bartender who made the drink publicly confronted me about the cocktail and asked what was not acceptable about it. I preceded to explain to him how this relatively simple cocktail should be made. I did not appreciate being confronted publicly about a cocktail that the bartender did not know how to make. There are many options for good drinks in downtown Tyler, and I would recommend exploring other options before choosing Prime 102.

Prime 102 is amazing. I live in DFW and can honestly say the food and service were not just similar to the prime steakhouses in DFW but superior. The jumbo lump crab cake was amazing as was the perfectly prepared ribeye and sea bass. The bread, sides and desserts were all outstanding. I also want to compliment Sean and Lindsey. They were extremely attentive, fun and helpful. I can t wait to go back!

We chose Prime 102 for our company Christmas dinner this year because we wanted a special treat! Although only one of my co-workers had been there before, we were all eager to try it out as wed all heard great things about it. We arrived on a Tuesday evening. The staircase to the restaurant (you can ride an elevator too) was magnificent with Christmas decorations! The dining room was breathtaking with grandly adorned Christmas trees and garlands in rich colors. Ive actually never seen a Hallmark Christmas movie, but I imagine this is the place the star-crossed lovers would get engaged during the Christmas holiday. Our waiter, Kevin H., was impeccable. The service was excellent. He was knowledgeable, expertly sold the signature cocktails, patiently explained how the side dishes were portioned and was solicitous about making sure our steaks were cooked to the right temperature. He was great at describing the dessert selection too! We shared some appetizers (run, dont walk for the pork belly) and 8 out of the 9 of us ordered steaks. The other enjoyed the Chilean sea bass and said it was exquisite. My filet was fork tender and perfectly seared on the outside. We shared truffle fries (delicious) and the loaded baked potato casserole. When Kevin said the butter cake with the homemade vanilla ice cream (from a creamery in Plano) was one of the best things on the menu, he was not kidding. The rich cake was enhanced by the aromatic vanilla and was the perfect ending to the meal. It was very much a special treat and I cant wait to go back! Vegetarian options: There are fish selections. Parking: Parking in the Square or behind the building.

Went for my husband s birthday recently. The service in the dining room was excellent (not great at the bar). The food was rather disappointing though. We started with the tuna tartare, which was okay. Rather sweet, but I guess to be expected for the way it s prepared. My husband got a Caesar salad to start his meal. There was something in there that was soooo salty that parts of it were completely inedible. At first we thought it was the chunks of bacon or cheese, but as we tried bits and pieces separately, realized it was probably just in the dressing or they had added salt separately. So he was only able to eat about half of that. Now for the steaks. My husband and I both got filets. He ordered his medium rare and it was cooked a bit over for medium rare, but fine. I ordered mine medium, and it was perfectly cooked. Unfortunately it was lacking was in flavor. My husband said the filet he got the previous week at Montez Creekside was much more flavorful than the one he got at Prime. Which is very disappointing for the price, and considering Prime 102 is a steakhouse! The sides: mushrooms were delicious; asparagus was over cooked and there were about 6-7 little pieces for $14. The complementary cake and ice cream they gave my husband for his birthday were delicious. We also got the cheesecake, and it was pretty dense and just okay. Half of it is still sitting in our fridge, and normally a good piece of cheesecake wouldn t last a day in our house! :) So if we had spent under $100 for this meal, I would give it 3, maybe four, stars. But we spent much more and had higher expectations, so that s why I give it only two stars for our experience. Lastly, I will say that I would probably go back for just a drink in the bar and for the ambiance. The People s Petroleum Building is stunning and the bar area has a nice view of downtown.

If there was a 6th star, theyd deserve it. Dinner at a restaurant with my father is a difficult thing due to some disabilities, but we wanted to celebrate his 70th with some style and I want you, the reader, to know that everyone - from a table busser to the owner - immediately went out of their way to help make us as comfortable and happy as they could. Weve been to some very nice restaurants (comparables like Dee Lincoln Prime, Perrys, Nick & Sams, Dakotas) in our time and we have never had better service. Matthew was our waiter and he was patient and helpful in addition to expertly fulfilling his waiting duties, but there was literally not a single person who we interacted with that wasnt that way. Beyond that, the food was awesome - cooked exactly the way we asked and the touches on each plate were wonderful, down to the glaze drizzled on the melted bleu cheese on the pork belly appetizer. Our drinks were very, very good (including the wine, though they didnt bottle it), including our 5 year olds Shirley Temple! For a nice dinner out, a nice place to get some drinks, or any other reason you can find to swing by Prime 102, I strongly encourage you to. It will be worth it.

My husband and I previously went on Valentine s Day after the zoo with our 5 month old daughter. Not knowing this was a fancy restaurant, which they did not judge our attire or our daughter ruining her diaper there . They were closed between lunch and dinner and at us at the bar. Xavier the bartender informed us that there was no menu available but after some chatting was able to convince the kitchen to make us some steak but no sides were available yet. It was amazing! Fast forward to today, my husband and I got a baby sitter got dressed up and went out on a date here! We sat down for real dinner and it was perfect! Shared a steak and lobster tail with sides and drinks. Our waitress served us beautifully and made the meal a true experience for us. Perfection! Xavier even came over to say hi and remembered us. We later moved to the bar and ate dessert (have to get the butter cake ). Over all 10/10 and we want to make this a monthly tradition of drinks and dinner!

I took my wife and 2 kids here one weekend, and while I got up to take my son outside to walk around (he s 2), a man yelled at my wife and told her we should leave and go to Chuck-E-Cheese. He was extremely rude, and yelled at my wife, cursing in front of the entire restaurant. My wife, fearing that the man might hit her, got my daughter and ran out. She was upset and crying, shaking in fear. The restaurant management did nothing about it, and we were forced to leave. I later learned that the man was a local attorney named J. Chad Parker. He was allowed to stay and enjoy dinner with his guests, while we had to find another place to eat. This incident was a perfect example of what is wrong with Tyler s culture, where wealthy people behave however they want, without consequence. I am sure the food is great, but the lack of integrity and hospitality towards guests, which is the main reason people go out to restaurants, was extremely poor. I wouldn t feel comfortable eating at this establishment with my children, or anyone I care about.

This is definitely one of the better steak houses in Tyler and never disappoints. Highly recommend the Tuna Tar Tar as a personal favorite to start off with. My go to drink is an old fashioned but also recommend the brick street. I typically have the filet as it is probably one (if not the) best steaks in Tyler. Havent tried the other more expensive cuts but Im sure they would be amazing. The bread pudding is fantastic. Probably one of the best Ive had, and Ive had alot. Our waiter mentioned that they were working for the past few months on a layered chocolate cake. After 3 months of perfecting it was going to be ready for today. Unfortunately, we convinced them to sell us the entire cake and review it ourselves. So you will have to wait. If you like a layered chocolate cake this does not disappoint. Its the right amount of chocolate without being too much. Near perfection. If your looking for a higher end dining experience, or a great meal for a special occasion. Cant go wrong here.

I can t say enough good about Prime 102 in Tyler. I ve eaten here regularly for lunch, and it is our go-to place for special occasions. Well, occasions don t get any more special than last night. My wife and I were blessed to join a group of students from Whitehouse High School for dinner before their Jr/Senior Prom. These students and teachers from the Life Skills program at WHS were treated like royalty by the owners and staff of Prime 102. Peri, Kevin, Jen, and everyone else involved gave these special kids the service they would have lavished on CEOs or celebrities. The chef prepared a special menu, tailored around the many dietary restrictions and preferences. The adults ordered from the regular menu, and all agreed that the steaks and sides were off-the-chart good. I think we ve found a permanent home for this annual tradition. I could say thank you a thousand times and not scratch the surface of the gratitude I have for the staff and ownership of Prime 102!

We tried to get reservations here the day of and were told they were booked. We showed up anyway around 8pm in hopes of maybe getting a table in the corner bar. When we arrived we got lucky because several reservations ended up being no shows. We were seated immediately. Justin was our waiter and he was awesome. Very personable and friendly. We ordered a crab cake appetizer. It was really good but for the price, we expected more than one crab cake. I also had a margarita but it was very bitter and not sweet at all. My husband ordered the lamb and he was not impressed. Weve had lamb one other time in Jamaica and it was absolutely delicious. This lamb tasted nothing like it. Not much flavor, very bland. I had filet medallions and they were pretty good. We shared the lobster Mac and cheese and it was very underwhelming. Also very bland and the noodles were too firm. Wow! Finally, a great upscale, non-pretentious, dining experience in Tyler. Kalen was our server and she was fantastic. We were never rushed but well taken care of by her and the rest of the staff....we were never ignored or interrupted. This is the kind of service that few can compete with. The menu is creative and solidly balanced. Angry lobster starter.... omg what a great dish and the cornbread texas toast was a perfect complement. One special for the night was lobster bisque....perfect texture, perfect temp, pleasant presentation and in the top two best flavors that Ive had anywhere! Chilean sea bass which is a standard at restaurants like this had the perfect crust and the smashed smoked sweet potato made it a perfect combo on the palette. Kalen said the lump crab cakes were only 5% breaded but I think they were only 1%. Great lump crab, really fresh and the size of tennis balls. The sauce was incredible. Even better was the presentation, a real piece of art. We had to order the lobster mac because so many try but very few succeed. Until tonight Capital Grille had the best lobster mac. Tonight Prime102 took the lead in the countrys best!, Incredible! Dessert selections were over the top and I was too full to try the 23 layer chocolate cake...next time for sure. We did order the butter cake and it was a perfect end to a perfect meal. They have a really good wine list...really good, and the house special Azalea was smooth and flowery just as the name indicates. The owners came by and introduced themselves and we really got to understand why this place has the great character that it has. Mr. & Mrs. Steve Barnhart, the word perfect is throughout this review and it was a perfect night. Great job with your team, your establishment and the overall experience.
