We visited Texas with high expectations for good BBQ. Those expectations were met at The Pit!!! Beef ribs were tender with deep flavor. The sides were perfect in variety, taste & portions. We recommend the beef ribs and pulled pork for sure! Absolutely coming back when we visit again! Thank you David and Kayla for bantering with us. We appreciate the great customer service!

SO FIRST TIME TRYING IT OUT AND I SHOULD HAVE CHECKED REVIEWS NO WONDER THEY DIDNT HAVE ANYONE IN THERE. I GOT THE CHOPPED BRISKET SANDWICH AND ORDER OF FRIES AND SIDE OF MAC AND CHEESE AND MY PARTNER GOT THEIR POTATO SALAD HE SAYS POTATO SALAD WASNT BAD BUT WAS OK. WENT IN FOR ICE TEA THEY HAD NO ICE OR SWEET TEA MADE. MAC AND CHEESE TASTE LIKE IT WAS MADE IN THE SINK SUPER WATERED DOWN. THE FRIES WERE OK DEFINITELY NEEDED SALT. SO THE BRISKET SANDWICH CHEAP BUN AND THE BRISKET WAS SO SPICY AND DRY THANK GOODNESS FOR THE BAR B SAUCE AND MY OWN PICKLES. WILL NEVER GO BACK AND DEFINITELY DONT RECOMMEND. Food was amazing...Jessica at the front definitely made the experience that much more enjoyable! It was my buddys first time and not only did she navigate the menu for him, she did this with every customer thereafter. When it slowed down she went out greeted and cleaned tables. I thought that kinda service was a thing of the past. A good old fashioned, have a great day, does wonders in this day and age and she made sure everyone felt that on the way out. Will be back for sure!

I have been here 4 or 5 times since they opened. The food has been good until this last visit. The sausage was ok, but the sliced brisket was very bad. It was very hard and very dry. Small portion. The bill was 30 bucks for my wife and I, good price. Baked potato was the smallest I have ever seen. We wont be going back.

Im always down to come here for a Jailbreak! Today I also picked up a pulled pork sandwich with my order..super stingy with the meat. Disappointed to say the least. My favorite sides are always the cream corn and beans. I tried the mac and cheese instead of beans this time, definitely needed more flavor to them. Besides that Ill still be coming back mainly for the sandwich

We came in with a long list of orders. (12 people) The staff took the time to write the name and order of each person on the to-go container. They were thoughtful, not upset by the large order and the food was DELICIOUS. Order the dinosaur rib. Its definitely from the Flintstones opening!

Used to be a good place to buy brisket. VERY fatty. We would buy 10+ pounds for a gathering. The last time we went in to order a large amount the staff said the owners new policy is that customers cant ask for lean brisket on larger orders. Too bad, we left and went to another BBQ place. We would typically trim off 25% of what we had to buy there to get lean. Not acceptable when it costs $20/lb. Might try them again sometime but owner wanting to charge for fat we wont eat isnt a good start. No other BBQ place we have tried does this.

Well, its official. San Angelo doesnt have one good BBQ spot for Brisket. Thought I was in Texas , I guess I was wrong. The flavor on the bark of the brisket was good. Theres no other way to describe it but dry and tough. The Mac n Cheese is clearly an after though. However, the sausage was delicious.

My family and I went to The Pit for dinner on a Friday evening at 6pm. Upon ordering, we were informed there were no Chicken Tenders. In fact, there are hardly any kid-friendly options on the menu at all, and no dedicated kids menu. We ordered a side of fries and Mac and Cheese for the kids. The Mac and Cheese had both garlic and course pepper added, my 4 and 6 year old did not care for it. They did enjoy the fries. I ordered the Chopped Brisket Pitwich and my wife ordered the Pulled Pork Pitpie. These were the absolute highlight of the experience. The chopped Brisket has a nice peppery bark. My wife and I also shared a jalapeno sausage wrap. The sausage was delicious, it didnt really need a tortilla around it. I ordered a side of Pinto Beans. They were on the bland side, with no seasoning beyond pepper and not enough salt. The sides were a bit on the small side for the price, which was disappointing. The service was not *bad*, but the two girls at the counter could not care less. They barely spoke, and it seemed like they both wanted the other to take and fill the order. There was no engagement, no friendliness. The ice machine was completely empty, I had to ask to have it filled after we had been there 30 minutes. The ketchup on the tables I checked were all almost empty. In the roughly 40 minutes we were there, no came out to check the dining area once. Worst of all, both bathrooms were out of order. This wasnt mentioned until my 4 year old had to go to the restroom. Honestly, Im not sure that I could recommend The Pit to anyone. If you were solely looking for the barbecue ONLY, it is well priced and delicious. But the sides (in flavor and quantity), the atmosphere, the service, and the dining area were just not up to par. I would instead recommend you check out Bodacious BBQ, another BBQ place in town. Disclaimer on that: I am not affiliated with Bodacious in any way shape or form, Im just a satisfied customer.

Congratulations!!!! This place has the absolute worst brisket I have ever tasted. Not only was it dry, but the serving size for $10 was too small. Their menu board says French fries, they say nothing about seasoning. Dont waist your time with this place. They spent too much on the building and not enough on learning how to cook or do business. Got a to go order. Told them it was for a family of 5. Asked for bread to go with a meal and we didn t get it. Gave us a tiny thing of bbq sauce. So if you choose to go here they ll cheap you out on essentials it seems. also their menu listed here is not up to date because they don t offer the party packs anymore. Very disappointing. When I called to let them know the person who and didn t seem to care. Updated after mangers response I will address this response. 1. I did ask for bread, which is why I called to complain. And no, nobody offered to fix it in ANY way. So go ahead and lie if you want to make yourself look better. 2. The menu I saw was here on Google so perhaps make some updates on it since so many people use it. 3. The food wasn t really that good either. The turkey was very salty and the brisket was also very salty and over seasoned and extremely fatty even though I asked for the leaner option. Also everything was VERY greasy and upset all of our stomachs. The sausage was well sausage. Can t really screw that one up. I did like the squash . The Mac and cheese had no flavor. In fact, we aren t even eating the leftovers. My dogs did enjoy them though! So maybe they ll give you the 5 stars you re looking for. So in the end, no, we will NOT be back.

Overall I had a poor experience. I had the sliced brisket which was VERY fatty! My wife had the chopped brisket which was SO DRY it was CRUNCHY!! It seemed like it was meat that had been reheated from the previous day. We had this for lunch and I m still burping because of how greasy it was. Also the guy who was forming the sandwiches was so rude and impatient. Oh gosh, the sides (Mac and cheese and potato salad) were SO flavorLESS- no salt, no pepper, NOTHING. The potato salad tasted like it had been frozen overnight. Who made this food? *cries* I was expecting so much more considering all the great reviews I ve heard. Best part of the meal? The bottled Coca Cola- because they didn t make it. Bodacious BarBQ is so much better.

Just moved to town and was in need of new BBQ. I was recommended to come here. I got the brisket sandwich and it was amazing. The sandwich was very flavourful and the BBQ sauce was also very delicious. I got the coleslaw as a side and it was very crisp and fresh. I highly recommend coming here if you are wanting BBQ in San Angelo. Update : I got the jail break sandwich and it is amazing, something you have to try for yourself to understand why its so good. Update: new location looks very nice, still plenty of parking, they have a soda machine inside and you can see them smoking the meat when you walk in.

The food isnt really worth the price in my opinion. The chopped brisket comes without sauce- its dry and chopped so finely its impossible to keep it on the bun. The bbq is on the table but the sauce to meat ratio is hard to achieve by adding the sauce on top. Overall the rest of the food isnt even noteworthy enough to mention. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice but there is much better bbq in town.

I would give this place a solid 4.3 stars because it has a lot of potential. I recently visited and tried their taco special, which had its ups and downs. Lets break it down. The meat itself was quite tasty, and if I were to judge based on that alone, it would have received a 4.6 rating. However, I found it a bit dry, which made me suspect that it may have been sitting in the warmer for a little too long. Moisture is key, and I believe that with some adjustments in the cooking time, the meat would have been exceptional. Another aspect that slightly lowered my score was the choice of using cold corn tortillas. Heating them up would have made a significant difference in enhancing the overall taco experience. The warmth adds a delightful touch and helps bring out the flavors of the fillings. Its a small detail, but it does make a noticeable impact. On the bright side, the jalapeño cream corn was absolutely fantastic and easily became the highlight of my meal. The flavors were well-balanced, and it complemented the tacos perfectly. I highly recommend trying it if you visit this place. Additionally, I must mention that the sauce they put on the tacos was delicious. It added a tangy and savory kick that elevated the overall taste. Kudos to the chef for crafting such a flavorful sauce. However, I did notice that the enthusiasm of the people behind the counter was lacking. They didnt seem particularly excited to welcome customers. Friendly and enthusiastic staff can greatly enhance the dining experience, making customers feel valued and eager to return. In conclusion, this place shows great potential with its tasty meat, delightful sauces, and standout dishes like the jalapeño cream corn. There are areas for improvement, such as addressing the dryness of the meat and ensuring tortillas are warmed. Moreover, boosting customer service by fostering a more welcoming atmosphere would further enhance the overall experience. With these adjustments, this place has the potential to become even better.

Was going to order to go plates. Menu on website is out of date since moving into building. They charge by the pound for the meat now for plates instead of a set price for a plate. So you will never know how much your meal will be until checkout!

I went there expecting good BBQ. I was disappointed. Serving size is unacceptable. Quality of the food: brisket was dry and lacked flavor. Potato salad dry. Cole slaw unappealing. Price to value not met at all. 1st and last visit.

This place has been killing it for 7 years now. Their net is fantastic and they have a boutique hot peanut butter, jelly, and brisket sandwich. The *only* downside is that they are still outside, and recently pulled down their shade and tables to move inside the refurbished building theyve been working on - but then the city screwed them and demanded more work that they hadnt before. This place deserves an average of 16/15

Honestly, its the best bbq Ive had since coming to Texas. Seriously. Great friendly service. The main building isnt open yet, but once it is, the atmosphere will be fantastic. Right now the atmosphere is backyard bbq with friends, I dig it. Ill be coming around more often for that turkey!

What was good, -BBQ sauce is the best. (Mad props). Jalapeno corn is delicious. Average- chopped brisket sandwich, we were supposed to try the pulled pork but they gave us all chopped brisket sandwichs. Beans and potato salad are what you will get just about anywhere. We will go back and try different meats. Yes it is worth going back.

We had 20lbs of brisket and 10lbs of chicken delivered for a post funeral lunch. The food was absolutely delicious. Attendents who came from all over the US were raving about the brisket - the best they have ever had.

Highly recommend trying the Jail Break sandwich. I didn t even want to try it at first because it s such a weird combination of peanut butter & jelly on a toasted bun with brisket but when I finally did I was hooked! I have to stop by and get one every time I am in San Angelo now.

I would have to give this place 3 stars. I ordered a BBQ sandwich and it was very small compared to other places like packsaddle. The potato salad was very salty to the point that I couldnt even finish it. Nevertheless the people are very friendly. May the Lord Jesus be with you all

The most saltiest chopped beef sandwich I have ever had!!! The beans were really good!! The service ehh...ok!!! Frito pie, they could of added more meat to it !! BBQ sauce not so great could get better in a bottle at a store. Don t see how it s the best here in San Angelo. Judges must have bad taste buds and love salty food!!! Won t be back.

First and last time ordering from these guys, heard great things especially about a pb&j brisket sandwich. They were pretty unfriendly on the phone. Buns were burnt, small portions for what they are charging, and meat was dry. I ll stick with Dickie s BBQ.
