Even though we live twenty miles away now, we crave Cafe Max. On rare occasions we re in the area we make sure to order in advance for takeout. The pasta, chicken & fruit trio with extra muffins and oatmeal cookies are our go-to! Wish they had more locations in Dallas proper. We ve been customers since before 1993. Fast-Easy in & out. Waits -if any, are pleasant. I always order in advance. They should be on the delivery apps.

I went all the way from Bedford area today. They have awesome food worth the drive. But, now thinking about it twice due to two hispanics male and female that were there today. They seemed to hate their jobs or the people who were there buying. I m Hispanic myself and they were so cold cut responding to questions I almost walked out without buying but, since I went from so far I just took a deep breath and moved on. People if u don t enjoy serving people find u another job where you will be a happier person.

1st time here! Terrible customer service today. Menu was contradictory. My 80 yr mother ordered the Quiche and Soup. Menu says you get a roll or muffin with your soup. BUT if you order the combo, you dont get the roll or muffin?? Whats up with that? Same size bowl of soup. Not a great way to treat a senior citizen. When I addressed it with the server, he would not budge. NO ROLL FOR YOU! Good grief! ... I also inquired about the chicken salad. I wanted a chicken salad sandwich. What they had was a chicken and pasta salad. When people think of chicken salad, they think of the spreadable kind for a sandwich. Menu was not clear on the wording and the employees could not explain clearly! $31.00 down the drain! Pricey for what you get. Couldnt even give my elderly mother a roll!! Needless to say it was a very sad experience and we will not be back. 1st and last time! What a shame!

I absolutely love their food. It s amazing!!! I wish there was a location closer to me. I wanted cafe max today after attending an activity that morning. We Drove a long way out of our way on a Saturday. Google maps says Richardson location closes at 3 on Saturday. We got there at 1:33 - they close at 1:30. So we drove to Plano location to get take out. It was less than 15 min away and it closes at 2. Got there at 1:47 and doors were locked. The lights were still on inside and some woman sitting there talking to someone (assuming on the phone). No one responded to us and the lady ignored us until we had tried both doors and called on the phone. Then she motioned that it closes at 2! Well, that s fine except it wasn t 2 yet!!!! Very inconsiderate of customers. So disappointing!! I d call and check before going.

Food is always great, however they charge you to share a meal! No other restaurant is that greedy or petty. Plus if you order a Cesar salad to go and dont want it to be soggy later, they charge extra to box it dry with the dressing on the side! Love love love this place. OMG the curry soup is a must. Not great for kids. Had my youngest with me and he was not a fan. But Maxs isnt for kids its for workin folk, parents or normal adult people. My coworkers are regulars here when we have to go into the office and I finally got to tag along. Boy was my lunch tasty. The service was fast and friendly. Theres a nice variety of salads and sandwiches along with a soup of the day. My turkey and cheese sandwich was good and the potato soup was delicious. This is a great place to pop in and grab some take away for lunch. Im glad I tagged along with my coworkers and I will have to do it some more in the future.

The food is great but fairly expensive for salad. They also like to charge a $2 surcharge if you want to pay for each order separately which is difficult if you are ordering for your team and need to pay individually. I could understand if you pay by card and wanted to do separate payments but when you pay cash, whats the issue? Some of the new staff working there needs some better customer service skills and learn not to be so rude.

Let me start with, this is my first restaurant review but felt strongly about posting this one! I ve been going to Cafe Max Richardson for at least 20 years. Went by there today to pick up lunch for myself and a co-worker. I informed the cashier that both salads were separate orders, paid for mine with my debit card and used my co-workers debit card to pay for the other salad. My co-worker was charged an extra $2. I asked the cashier if I was getting anything extra for the $2. she replied no, two different transactions, the person that is not here to pick up the order gets charged $2 extra , the employee then pointed to a small piece of paper taped to the counter stating $2 policy. I proceeded to pay because I didn t want to hold up the line behind me, but I don t think it s good way to run a business. Cafe Max you ve disappointed a long time customer!

I d give the food 4 stars and the service 2 stars, just to clarify my 3 star rating. If you can go in with low expectations on service, you ll be pleasantly surprised. As many reviewers mentioned, the service isn t particularly friendly. I wouldn t necessarily call them rude, just not friendly or accommodating. Thankfully for Cafe Max their food makes up for it or they wouldn t be in business. It s a rule-sy type place that during the pandemic they had multiple signs saying the same thing, but not limited to mask requirements. They post about keeping the door closed, pricing going up, max number of people in at a time, etc. Once you re inside, expect to follow their menu as they are unlikely to accommodate any special requests. I will give them credit that they do agree to leave off one of the salads I don t care for from my sampler, but I feel like I ve got to ask real nice for them to begrudgingly do so . One time I was there, the lady in front of me wanted 4 different salads, not a trio or a sampler. The answer was a hard no . If you want the Caesar dressing on the side, prepare to pay $2 extra. At some point you weren t allowed to order just Caesar bc of the romaine shortages (why not just offer it until it sells out?). The dining room has been closed for a long time. I asked about it a year ago and they said they couldn t get the staff. Most restaurants and businesses for that matter are struggling to do so, but you don t get a warm friendly vibe from the staff here, so I can t say I m surprised. If you don t look happy to work there, it s hard to attract happy (or any) employees. Regarding the food, the portions have been huge for all the years I ve been coming, but my visit today was almost half of what they normally give. It was more of a normal sized portion and the right amount for me as I usually can only eat half. I also have noticed in the last year or so, the chicken in the chicken salad can sometimes have a funky taste and texture. I m not sure if it s the quality or they are keeping it too long, but it never used to be that way. It s hit and miss. Their zucchini muffins are usually great, but I do occasionally get a dry one which never use to happen. I pick up lunch typically a couple times a month and will probably continue. I do recommend Cafe Max to friends, but often give them a heads up about what to expect.

Cafe Max has some simple yet delicious salads, and the portion sizes are definitely worth the price. I usually get seafood, ceaser, and one other for a salad trio plate that ends up feeding me well into the next day. Unfortunately, as of the last time I swung by they hadnt reopened their dining area so it is pickup/takeout only. Which actually works pretty well: the staff are experienced and quick.

I have walked in many times for their delicious salad. Today I ordered 4 salads over the phone. Once home I realized how skimpy they were on their portions! I called in to place an order for myself and about 8-9 others. The person that took the order was getting agitated because of how many orders snd when I asked if she could tell me how much each order was individually with tax she said no get it when you come in to pick up. Once arriving and waiting in a long line I find out later that I am supposed to wait in another line. So I waited which there isnt anyone there to get my order-so this older guy comes up to ring up the orders and I explain to him that I will need individual receipts and of course he sighs and tells me he cannot do that. So, here we go-my coworker and I look at each other and explain to him that we have different payments with credit and/or debit cards. I end up paying on my credit card due to the fact that he wouldnt let us look at the bags to determine which bag had what in it. I called to inquire about the order because of course a few things were incorrect and one person didnt get their order. I ended up leaving my phone number but as of today I am still waiting on a call back. I was told the first time the manager was busy because of it being lunch hour so I waited, after lunch no call so I call back and was told the manager had to step out. No call-nothing. No worries we will not go back again. Our doctors like to by lunch so we thought we would try it and get it catered but that was a deal breaker. Recommend trying the new spot Salads to Go!!!

I wish I could say that the food was good enough to overlook how miserable the workers here are. They literally don t greet you and don t respond to a thank you after payment. It s just not worth it. You re better off making your salads at home drenched in dressing. That s they only reason the food is decent here.

They have one of the best caesar salads on the market. I also enjoy the imitation crab salad, pasta salad & zucchini muffin! Ive tried a soup & sandwich combo as well, just cant remember what I ordered. Food is always fresh & good. Customer service...meh... the employees for the most part are always dry. I get they have to move the line & Im sure people come in acting as if they dont know whats on the menu as they have had the same to-go menu for decades. That being said, being more welcoming still goes a long way. I sometimes want to ask them why does it always seem like theyre having a bad day.

We used to go to this location a while ago but then we started going to the Plano location. I was close by this past week so I stopped by to grab a few salads to go and they were terrible! The chicken didn t have the usual flavor, it was chewy, and didn t taste fresh. On top of that, 2 of us got sick! Will not be returning here!

Here s the scathing review Rick, the manager , (HA!) told me he was looking forward to reading. Today I stopped by Cafe Maxx in Richardson to get a salad for lunch. I was the only customer in the whole restaurant, and tried to order a salad for takeout. The lady behind the counter refused to serve me because I wasn t wearing a mask. I asked her if they had a masks available for me to wear to place my order, she said Nope . Since I was the only customer in the restaurant, I asked if I could just order and go, she responded again curtly, Nope! . I left the restaurant without saying anything because I didn t want to make a scene, and called the manager, Rick. I spoke with him and told him about what just happened inside the Richardson location. I explained to Rick that I have previously been to the Cafe Maxx location in Plano and that no masked required there. I asked Rick how were the rules different then the other locations? Rick s response to me was incredibly unprofessional and rude. He snapped that wearing masks at the Cafe Maxx Richardson location were the rules of the house , he then snapped Do you have anything else to say?! I am incredibly taken aback, and frankly quite disappointed with my overall experience. Especially given the fact that I reached out to the Manager, Rick, for clarification on the mask rules at the Richardson location. He was adamant that masks are required at the Richardson location. Why are none available for Customer to wear while inside? Why the inconsistency between the rules in each location? Overall, a terrible experience and I do not recommend anyone going to the Cafe Maxx in Richardson unless you want a horrible experience like I had today. Seems silly refusing service (and not having any masks available!) when restaurants are in desperate need of customers and money!

I ve been coming to Café Max for YEARS. Food is always the best and well served. But today I went and was the only person in the store and the first thing that came out of one of the associates mouth was do you have a mask.. very rudely might I add. Before I even get greeted, I get yelled at for not having a mask when they have 1000 signs at the door. I m not going to stand at the door and read every sign when I am in a rush. But I said yes I do, I will go grab one. Went to my car grabbed a mask and came back inside for food. I don t mind someone asking me to put on a mask but the way the associate approached the situation was incredibly disrespectful. Not the way to treat a longtime client or any client in that matter. I work a front facing customer job and that is the rudest thing you could just do to someone. Not even a hello, how is your morning going, just flat out yelling across the store, where is your mask? Team definitely needs to be trained on how to greet a client if you don t have clients you don t have a business. Do better.

I wish I was writing a review on how good the food is here , because it is indeed great food. The ladys working there are always very nice and sweet, the older gentlemen working there on the other hand is not, he is in fact rude. I was told I couldnt go inside without a mask, so I turned around and left. This will be my last visit.

Have been a customer since they opened at their original location! EVERYTHING on the menu is Spectacular. My Favorite are the Chicken salad, Seafood salad, pasta, cucumber salad a,d Ceasar salad. The rolls are so delicious but it is hard to beat the Zucchini muffins and the oatmeal cookies topped off with their infamous orange spiced iced tea! OBSESSED FAN FOREVER!!

Cashier ignored me, I asked for two sets of utensils and was only given one so had to run back in to get more. Was so disappointed have been a cafe mac fan for years but they will never see me again after my this encounter today. Came in to order catering for my office of 30 ppl. Refused to serve me because I didnt have a mask. I asked if I could order and sit in my car but they said no mask, no service. Im sorry but if you are going to require people to wear a mask while ordering food Togo you better at least have a box of masks at the door for people who dont have a mask. I have no problem wearing one I just didnt have one. Cafe Max you just lost $500.... get with the times or provide for your customers its that simple.

its like some places want to go out if business. first, its in a really weird location. The prices are really high for soup and salad. The crab salad is imitation crab. The hours are short. The indoor dining isnt open and now they have a mask mandate just for pick up to go orders and the employees are really rude about enforcing it. I dont wear masks anymore and they dont have any available for customers. Would not surprise me if they closed soon.

OWNER REQUIRES MASKS * If you walk in without one - they will ask you to leave - and NO they will not provide you with one. Yes even in the Togo, yes even behind the makeshift wall they built around everything and themselves. They make it clear they would rather loose buisness than supply a mask for a 45 second walk thru service, or offer accommodations like delivering to your car for the people who care to claim and stand up for the masks actually doing more harm medically than preventative anything.

The food is usually really good. I get a couple types of salads and eat them for lunches which is awesome! This last time I bought the chicken salad I went to eat it and it tasted bad. I tried to call for 3 hours and couldnt get through to the Richardson location so I called the Plano location and they told me there was nothing they could do for me. I said fine I will post my thoughts online and wont eat here any more and the person I talked to said go ahead. So here it is!

Cafe Max is the BEST salad place. However, right now, Dine-in is not open and there s nothing on the web or on the door stating that. I had a group of women meet there today and we couldn t dine in. We came from N Plano & Garland so it was the pitts! We had to go somewhere else. So call before you go if you want Dine-in. But their salads are the Best!!
