Rye is doing a Christmas popup from Nov 11 - Dec 31st in the old Pantry building! Santa's Workshop is our coming home for the holidays to our beloved McKinney. We're decking the holidays with Rye-style Christmas cocktails and fa-la-la-la-lovingly frying up Saucy Chic(k) for food and fun! We've got N.A. / Kids Christmas drinks too, so everyone in the family is welcome! But after 10 pm on the weekends, it's 21+ for Santa's speakeasy. Come check us out downtown for an old fashioned, and family Christmas time. #merrymckinney

Hyperinflation at the North Pole! Was here at Santa s workshop w the kids last weekend. Kids drinks are very expensive (ie $10 for a tiny cup of sprite w some flavoring and mostly ice). It s been a week now and I still feel like I ve been hoodwinked - by Santa!

Perfect spot for the holidays! Come with your friends and/ or family. Amazing job creating a holiday atmosphere experience! Perfect for small bites and unique drinks. Any of the drinks are delicious! Our pics from this weekend: pomegranate margarita, wine drink (warm and perfect), lump of coal-Ada, bourbon hot chocolate. Must try their cheese curds and nuggets! We will be back before they close! The best service by far! Don t miss it!

We had an amazing time here! I m not sure what the other reviewer was expecting from a temporary restaurant that had only just opened. Should they invest in all new furniture and dish ware for 8 weeks of service? We didn t see a single plastic cup either. All of our glasses were adorable. It s located in the space where The Pantry used to be and they have done a great job decorating and providing photo backdrops. I was so sad about the fire at Rye but thrilled this group is staying in McKinney and coming back with a new theme. The pop up is temporary but they went all out decorating. The drinks were all creative and tasty, served in adorable cups and glasses. The chicken tenders were fantastic and the sauces also great. We were there on a slower night so the staff provided some off-menu items to sample. Everything was amazing! But honestly it was the service and staff that were above and beyond and really made the night special. They were checking on us constantly, making sure everything was perfect. If you are out shopping in McKinney or looking for a fun holiday evening, I whole heartedly recommend you pop in Santa s Workshop, grab a cocktail, and take some Christmas photos.

We were in the area for the McKinney holiday festival and this was a perfect place to stop in for a quick drink. The atmosphere is very rustic and feels like you re in a 90s-2000s Hallmark holiday movie. There s different themed sections of the bar like a Grinch themed area. The drinks are simple and cute. There s no reservations, you just walk in, order at the front and find a table. They do have a limited food menu, the cheese curds and chicken tenders were great to snack on. They also have a kid friendly menu.

Can I give a place 6 stars? This place was spectacular. The Duroc Pork Belly Lollipops were one of the best bites I ve had in a VERY long time. The barrel aged old fashioned was fantastic, and the staff was friendly and inviting. It is a little pricey if you re looking for a lot of food, but very much worth it if you re looking for quality of flavor. Make sure to buy the kitchen a beer when you visit!

We love Rye! Food was always phenomenal with thoughtful presentations: Pork Belly Lollipops - 5/5 -- melts in your mouth perfection! Salmon Gow - 4/5 -- flour wrapper can be thinner Vaca Frita Tacos - 5/5 -- delicious! Release the Quack-en - 6/5 -- best duck ever! Three French Hens - 5/5 -- full of flavours To Peach Their Own 5/5 -- unique dessert Benedict, chicken and grit at brunch were yummy too. Jadzia was always cordial and she would answer all of our questions with great patience. Shes also very knowledgeable of their menu. High marks for that. Thered be a $10 deposit per guest on reservation in case of no show, its fair and not a deal breaker for us. Cant wait to go back and try everything on the menu and we would definitely start every meal with pork lollipop. Its that good!

We arrived at a full restaurant with only a couple seats at the bar. We decided to eat there rather than wait for a table. We were so glad we did. The bartender, Heather took such great care of us the whole night. She helped us feel at home and treated us like we were regulars there. She explained the small plate format and gave us her recommendations which was appreciated. Each plate was a delightful surprise of complex and mouthwatering sauces and seasonings with fresh ingredients. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and plan to return again real soon.

Rye has become one of our absolute FAVORITE restaurants since moving to Texas. We went again last night and it was perfection! The cozy atmosphere of Rye makes you feel warm and welcome, like you are dining with friends and family, and yet the elevated culinary experience kind of blows your mind at the same time. Side note: The Vaca Frita Tacos are TO DIE FOR and I may actually cry if they are ever taken off the menu. Full of flavor, texture, heat....they are AMAZING!! In addition to the delicious menu offerings, fabulous wine and craft cocktails, the service is top notch. We are ALWAYS greeted with a warm smile and Good to see you, welcome back! Everyone who works at Rye seems like a team, they all work together, always have a smile, and create a wonderful experience for their diners. The owner of Rye is a kind man who models the concept of team flawlessly. You will see him throughout the dining experience jumping in where ever is needed to provide top level service. I try to give out 5 star reviews sparingly because few restaurants truly wow - but this one hit the mark on everything from service, atmosphere, and of course the actual food. Wow. Unique, varied, delicious (obviously), and most surprisingly quite affordable considering the quality. My favorites were the Forest Floor (mushroom dish), the Salmon (forgot the full name), the Shortrib, and the chili chocolate cake. Wonderful stuff and the staff all knew the menu well which is lovely. Will be coming back again very soon. Props to the chef and service staff. One thing is that they did have to push our reservation back 35min due to how busy they were - but that s quite understandable for a restaurant this small + good. No biggie since it s in downtown McKinney which is fun to have a stroll around.

I took my wife here recently based simply on all the glowing reviews it has on Google / Yelp. It was alright, but I felt obligated to post a review as I definitely dont see any reason this place should have such a high review. The food was good, but for the price- it wasnt that great. If Im going to pay top dollar to be seated in a small restaurant at a table so small Im constantly having to watch that I dont knock my drink off of it- with small portions- I expect the food to be flawless. It was not. It was good, but overpriced. Examples- The pork belly lollipops- delicious, but 2 out of the 5 or 6 pieces we got were inedible fat chunks, pure fat. The other pieces had some fat, but some meat- which is expected for pork belly, but Im not paying premium for pork fat. We got the large Charcuterie board, and it was good, but the cheddar tasted like it was old, like we got some edges of a piece that set uncovered and dried out- I notified the kitchen of this, they were un-phased. At any rate, the food was good, but again, for the price and the portion size (small plates) it was less than I expected, based on the current reviews. The service was decent as well, maybe that I would give 4/5 stars if I could rate separately, but 3 sums the experience up for me nicely.

Simply put - Wow. From the beginning to the end, my husband and I had an absolutely spectacular visit at Rye. It started with us having a mix up about the day of our reservation (our mistake). The wait staff expertly handled the situation and seated us within minutes regardless. I loved the cozy ambiance and lively chatter throughout the establishment. Our waiter Daegan was very kind and described our dishes in perfect detail (as did one of the owners, Taylor, who came by periodically to check on us). Then comes the food, mind you these are small plates style dishes so we found sharing is ideal. We ordered the charcuterie board, the pork belly lollipops, and the Vaca frita tacos. My gosh everything was absolutely amazing. The pork belly was melt in your mouth.. the flavor of the tacos was outstanding. Coming from Charlottesville, VA which has a plethora of fantastic restaurants, Rye has been our best restaurant experience since we ve lived in Texas. We will most certainly be returning and spread the word about this gem. Thank you Taylor and Daegan for a 5-star experience!

Rye is delicious, and I ultimately would recommend for 1 visit! The venue is rather cramp, and surprisingly small. While in some regards a detriment, the small venue also adds to the family style ambiance Rye wants to maintain. The rotating tasting menu is perfect to share amongst a small group, but many of the dishes frankly end up tasting the same, with minimal meaningful varience between each course. Overall its worth visiting once, but Im not confident Ill be back again.

I have never felt compelled to write a review on here before, but my wife and I had such an incredible meal at Rye that I wanted to do anything I could to get the word out! There is both high art and cutting edge science being concocted in their kitchen, and the amount of love and attention to flavor detail left us floored. We started with the watermelon crudo, and it was an unexpected favorite. Smoky, beautiful, and is going to haunt my dreams for a while. We followed that with a mushroom medley, some duck, short rib, and Cajun red fish. Again, every one of these was a curated experience that would have been one of the best things wed ever tasted on their own. Together, it was a pretty unforgettable culinary journey. In short, everyone owes it to themselves to hit this place up before they realize theyre not charging enough!

This is a tough review. And its only just cause I cant truly capture in words the aesthetic of the menu selections and the cozy ambiance. The menu is thoughtful, balanced and plays on different cuisines that work wonderfully all while staying true to the southern feel. The chef and kitchen deserves kudos for all the great food. I had about half the menu with family and the level of food this team is putting out just makes me 100% sure that the other menu items are just as solid. Wonderful whiskey selections and a small intimate spot in downtown Mckinney makes for good times and delicious meals. Post pandemic, restaurants like these are what you want. From the first plate, I knew that I was about to be served a good meal. At the end, I can say with ease that this was one of the best, if not the best, eating experience I have ever had in Mckinney. As a chef, this dinner was inspiring and memorable. Thank you again!

I thought different servers gave a different experience. Id like to go there when the most pro people are working. Knock your socks off drinks. Sure, everywhere in this area is good. But this is a clear cut above. Outstanding taste and mouth feel. Unique combinations that add just an extra hint of complexity that makes you aware of the food and experience. The food. Was just. Outstanding. Really and truly the only way to have a perfect experience like this is to live in like NY, LA, Chi because they just get a supply that local sourcing can only get close to. Given that, the quality, presence, and experience makes me want to go back often and bring a preferred guest. I want to meet the owner/executive chef behind the mastery. This place could get you to eat if you werent hungry. Could get you acute and aware if youre just meandering and zoned out. Could impress you days later. And make you want to go back to that restaurant when youre just eating food at another place.

Phenomenal, purposeful gourmet fare served by a very friendly and attentive staff. Rye strikes the perfect balance for a unique, low key dining experience perfect for any evening you want to make special. Everything I ve had so far, about 16 different small plates over the past few months, has been fantastic. And oh the craft cocktails...

Thankfully the other place that we originally intended to go to could not accommodate us. Why? Because it allowed us to give Rye a try, and we can confidently state that this has been the best dinner weve had since moving to Texas 7 months ago. Locally sourced ingredients, very extensive whiskey/bourbon menu with some international selections, and something that most places lack.....the ability to build excitement about the menu options either by reading about them on the menu or hearing the waiter describe them. And, the kitchen does not disappoint - every single dish was not only beautifully presented, but the marriage of flavors and textures made each dish unbelievably delicious. Charred cauliflower with pistachios and pomegranate, with some delicious drizzle did not disappoint. Tacos were the bomb. But the star of the show are the short ribs. Well, the other stars of the show are the wait staff, especially our waiter Daegan who was not only attentive, but described each dish and its preparation with such character that we were anxiously awaiting the next course. Also, was very impressed to see such a young man make some very impressive bourbon suggestions based on my personal drinking preferences (neat, rocks, mixer). Do yourself a favor and get to Rye immediately.

A variation of mangu con los tres golpes. A Korean style rice bowl. Bourbon French toast pre-soaked in melted ice cream. What was essentially a complex chocolate martini and a mimosa. The offerings here are complex, ever changing (their menu is changed regularly), and most importantly, delicious. A bit pricey but its refreshing to eat and pay for such a quality brunch every once in a while.

Ok, our visit was a Super Wow!!! Ive had nice meals from Seattle, New York, Toronto and Paris and can differentiate sophisticated and complex plates. Our multiple course dinner on Valentines Day 2020 was unbelievable. The rounds included: lamb tartare, grilled peach burrata salad an amazing shrimp and grits, tenderloin and tallow potatoes and delicate strawberry meringue desert. The recommended wine pairings were perfect (loved the vine verde from Portugal)! I forgot to mention the cheese and charcuterie (with most items made at Rye) was an absolute adventure! Heather, our server, was excellent. She was attentive, super fun, and complemented our experience nicely. The ambiance was quaint and attractive. We cant wait to return! Well done Team Rye...this was our first impression and we had a blast!

A small little restaurant reminiscent of a bouchon lyonnais, in terms of decor. The ambiance inside was not very fancy (concrete floors, random & rustic wall decor, plain, small wood tables and chairs- plan to be seated close by other diners) but we were excited for some delicious tapas-style small plates to share- a concept that we love. Service was very good- all staff were super friendly and the pacing of dishes was good. The flavors were also very good but unfortunately the portion size was absolutely unacceptable and is the reason for 3 stars. My husband and I shared 4 small plates, 2 drinks each and spent $110, but we left with empty tummies and ended up eating leftover pizza when we got home. $17 for the rabbit ravioli- we received 3 raviolis (2 inch, round ravioli), so we each ate 1 and a half raviolis! I wanted to love this place after reading all their great reviews but they definitely need to reconsider the portion size of their dishes if they are marketing them as shareable. We will stick to our favorite tapas restaurant in Plano for small plates.

Have not been back since the owner change and I am happy to note that it is better! We had lunch here during the holidays and the new menu is great. Farm to table scratch kitchen sandwiches and food. In Box served in a classic lunch box with kettle chips, horseradish pickles and a side (Gouda Mac n cheese is delicious!) and a perfect sized sandwich that is delicious. Out of the box is full sandwich only. Good bourbon and ale selection, great service and people. It is limited tables so seating if busy could be a wait but worth it. The BLT I had was spot in with thick slices of bacon and fresh tomatoes and greens. We now wish to try the small plate share dinner soon!

Dont believe the hype. Rye is good and does have good drinks, but it isnt the end all restaurant thats worth the wait. The tapas idea of smaller plates to share is nice, but it certainly doesnt make for a great value proposition (youll easily spend $40-50 per person if you want to fill up). Some items are good, but others, such as the ribeye tacos are so salty that you cant enjoy the flavor. If you are hungry, go somewhere else. If you want to sample several different flavors and have good drinks, this is fine.

A incredible sensation of complex flavors and textures. A must experience for a clean handmade crafted cuisine. The chicken biscuits are an explosion of smoky crispy buttery without being greasy or burnt. The flaming beef tacos are exquisite warming blasts of yum. The trout is meaty delicate wild flavor with creamy couscous. The Brussels are mild with clean crisp textures and a refreshing slightly fruity kick. The forest floor is incredible. A robust mushroom medley with a light frothy kale foam with moss! The best dessert is without a doubt the cheese cake. Worth a mention the smores are redolent of childhood camping treats with all hand made ingredients.

Rye did not disappoint! I spent years in fine dining so I know how difficult it can be to deliver on every level and Rye succeeded. The food was spectacular, the service sublime and the environment was comfortable and not-stuffy. It would make for an enjoyable date night but my sister and I enjoyed our visit just as well. We ordered a variety of dishes and there were all incredible and full of flavor! My sister loved the Cacio E Pepe so much so she got another order to go to take home to her husband! The Hatch Green Chili Meatball (special item) was my favorite but there was nothing that I would not recommend! It is not a large restaurant so make sure to reserve in advance if you want to go on a peak night!

We went for dinner Tuesday night and had a wonderful date night. It was a cozy little place that was bustling and had a warm and gracious staff. We were seated by one of the owners. He came back later to check on us. Everything was so goodcandcwe were so impressed. That we bought beers forvthe kitchen. (Its a thoughtful menu item and we loved that we could express our appreciation to the people that made our food) The food was absolutely delicious. We had the tacos. They had won some kind of award and we can see why. They were perfectly done. The handmade yolk pasta was simple perfection. And the beef bracciole w black garlic was tender and flavorful. Katherine, the bar manager waited on us and was darling. She was very knowledgable about all the bourbons and ryes and gave us a lot of information. Tues nights u can get a smaller pour for half price and we tried some that we hadnt had before. Our whole evening was perfect and we could hear the others sitting around us enjoying ther food and drinks as well. The cocktail menu was to die for and we are going back next week to try it. You wont be disappointed.

Great campari cocktail for negoni week! And the caccio e pepe was extremely flavorful, though the pasta-to-sauce ratio could have been higher; I think of CeP as a dryer dish--but the flavor was great. Also the Japanese elote was superb. Atmosphere was great, too; intimate but exuberant, without being too loud for conversation. Prob best for 2 or on ones own at the bar, as I was. Staff friendly and expert w/o being supercilious or or obsequious: hardworking and devoted to taste and flavor.
