Stood in line forever to get tickets. Stood in line forever to get in. Was told 10 minutes after start time that they couldnt work the projector. Stood in line forever to get a refund. What a horribly disappointing trip. Zero reason to have it mixed in with other lines at the museum. Zero reason to even have physical tickets. Why do I have to wait in one line for the opportunity to wait in another? It is 2024, let us buy the tickets online then just scan the code at the Planetarium. It is supposed to be a science theater after all. Anyway, at least I got my autistic son out before he had an utter melt down at the 50 minute drive, the walk from the parking lot, waiting 30+ to buy tickets, 25+ minutes waiting in line at the Planetarium, and 15 or so minutes to get a refund, all for absolutely nothing.

We ve always enjoyed the shows here, and never had any issues with the several we ve been to. But today s experience ruined it for us and we won t be back. We purchased our tickets at the kiosk at 12:25- the showing we preferred was at 12:30, but they were no longer selling tickets to that one. Ok, we ll hang out an hour and go to a different one. The message in the kiosk says to be in line no less than 15 minutes early. So we walk around for 40 minutes and return to the planetarium at 12:10. We were a bit early, but I had my children with me and they like to look at the exhibits inside before the show, so I figured that would give them a chance to view them. The previous show had already started, so it s not like we were going to get mixed up and go in the wrong show. But the very rude girl at the entrance told me no we can t go in yet. I said ok well we re only 5 minutes early according to when the kiosk said to be here so we ll just wait in line. She said no, you re 20 minutes early. Confused I told her that the kiosk says to show up 15+ minutes early. She then proceeded to ague with me and tell me that her paper says 5 minutes. I told her well you may want to ask them to fix the message because I was surprised with the 15 min expectation. She said yeah that s why you shouldn t use the kiosk. If you had gone through the ticket line they wouldn t have told you that. What!!?? Why the hell is it there if you re not supposed to use it to buy tickets?! I asked if the real expectation is 5 minutes, why couldn t we buy the tickets to the show we actually wanted, 5 minutes before the showing. She said well if you really want to see a better show you should just go wait in line now and get tickets to the 2pm show. I said well, no our showing is at 12;30, we re not going to go to 2 showings. (The truth is the kids like the stuff to view in the hallway more than the show. Thats what they really wanted to do.) I just walked off and we sat in the rain because the museum was too full and there was no where to sit until we could walk in 5 minutes before the show- which means my kids didn t get to do the part they actually enjoy. So that was a waste of $45, and if that s the attitude we ll get when we go to the museum and planetarium, we just won t bother anymore. I Just wish this place would hire people who want be in customer service for their customer service positions. As a customer service representative in any company, your job is to assist and make my experience more enjoyable so I actually want to come back. This rep did exactly the opposite and ruined our family outing.

Went to see Beautifica. The graphics looked really good at first then they looked like they were plucked from the archives from the 90s. The positive reinforcement messages spoken during the show reminded me of SNL skit where the guy looks at himself in the mirror and tell himself hes a good person. They need to update the facility. Very disappointed! 35 bucks a ticket..dont waste your money.

0 stars for Beautifica. BASICALY it was like watching someones LSD acid trip set to very bad music. Awaste of time and money, seriously, Ive seen better cgi videos on youtube. I left with a sore neck from the uncomfortable positions you have to turn your head around to watch. The superficial narrative about love, life and the universe was too contrived and did not go with the graphics flow. Go see the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon instead.

Saw Beautifica from James Hood s Mesmerica collection. It was cool in so many ways, but needs improvement. It s only about 50-55 minutes long. I started to enjoy the change of beat towards the end and wish he would have included more fast tempo mixes and kept some images going longer. I think the show should have been a 90 minute. Movie tickets cost way less than this and spend way more on their production. Also, since I had never been here before, I assumed there was ample smart seating and that I would be able to enjoy whatever spot I sat in. I went by myself, so I got lucky to grab one seat on the end only 3 rows up from the floor. However, I almost got stuck sitting halfway covered at the very top (because I didn t stand in line even though I got there early). The staff actually were adding uncomfortable portable chairs at the top as if the show time was overbooked. That s crazy. This almost ruined the experience for me. Anyway, the room is small, so get there early especially if you are general admission. $36.57 ticket is way too high, and to think most people brought their families. I think a fair price should ve been under $22, and a longer presentation with a wider variety of music mixed in, both slow and energetic. But, overall I m glad I went for the planetarium experience.

A young women named Lynnex who helped us was INCREDIBLE! She explained a bunch of different things about the museum and planetarium to us. I wasn t buying an admission ticket for the museum, only for a planetarium show. However, it was nice to hear about it all though. Upon talking about this, and the struggle to find parking she asked if we ended up getting a space in their parking garage. We did, however it cost $20 Since there was no option for parking by the hour, only the full day. Lynnex went out of her way to speak with a manager and get our parking comped since we were only going to be there for the planetarium show! She did not believe it was fair for us to have to pay the $20 parking fee when only visiting for less than an hour. She did not have any obligation to do this and we are so very appreciative that she did anyways. Amazing customer service from her & obviously the person who gave approval. Also, enjoyed the show we saw.

We will never go back. Horrible experience with staff for the NOT worth paying $40 Mesmerica show. They only cared about people with VIP tickets, the rest of us were treated like we are kindergarten. He was even trying to be polite and said use your voices, remember like they teach you in kindergarten. I am pregnant (very obvious) and we were first in the general admission line. My back started to hurt from standing too long and i sat down on the floor. They started letting the VIP line first. And told us we will open your line in 15 minutes. There was no one in VIP line any more but we were ignored. It felt like we bought our tickets with 90% discount and were treated this way. Horrible. At some point one of the staff members looked over his shoulder and said You need a chair? Honestly it felt like he was doing a favor, too cool for school attitude. Right at 7:15 one of the staff guys said OK guys lets open your line, where all of the sudden some other lady put her heavy hand down and said 30 more seconds! with that same attitude as the guy above. I wonder what would happened if we would enter now. At this point you just want to turn around and go home. See, if the staff is friendly then you dont mind if the show you watched was bad, you will go back just for the great experience before and after the show. But when you are treated like low class with looks over the shoulder YOU WILL NEVER GO BACK. Not even for free. Sad. But it could be better. And the show was similar to my screen saver on the computer kaleidoscope like.

We have been members of HMNS for approximately six years. My son, who is now seven years of age, and I have been visiting this excellent museum since my son was in a stroller. Therefore, he has grown up at this museum, as well as learned, more so than any other place of higher learning. For the past two years my son has been taking homeschool classes there. The staff is one of the best if not the best. Since first visiting HMNS, now for approximately six years, we have experienced two incidents that were immediately and professionally taken care of by one of the museums directors, Brad Levi. Along with excellent staff such as James Washington, Mattie Hammet, Melvin French, Ms. Wanda, the wonderful people who great us with a smile and thank you for returning to the museum, to the kind and helpful McDonalds employees, and of course the two shops employees, we are made welcome and are accommodated completely. Ms. Kelsey and Ms. Melissa, from whom my son has had the pleasure to learn, are just two of the extremely talented and highly educated teachers at the museum. Mrs. Hartman of Homeschool and Beyond has done an outstanding job putting at the teaching programs together. I regret that I am not able to recall the names of the other teachers from whom my son has learned in the past few years. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this outstanding museum. Words escape me as I write her. Our only great regret is having to leave by the end of the day especially when classes are over. There are just not enough of the classes that are being taught at HMNS. By the way, I too am able to learn what is being presented to each class. Never have I taken such a lengthy amount of notes. The memories are many and are remembered fondly. We look forward to my sons continuing education at HMNS and our leisurely visits. Oh yes! My family loves our museum so much that my daughter now works there! In looking to HMNS successfull future, Eduardo I. Ranon Aka, Lalo de Pilar

I have never been so disappointed in a planetarium/museum experience in my life. If I could give it zero stars, I would! My family and I saw the Starry Night Express on March 14th. It was as though the planetarium just grabbed a guy off the street and said, Hey, can you come in here and mumble for 20 minutes about space-type stuff? He clearly had no script. He started off by saying, We can barely see like a couple dozen stars cuz were just stuck here on earth. His speech was composed primarily of the words like and um, and the phrases like I mentioned and like I said comprised about half of this laughable presentation. To point out something on the ceiling/screen, he used a laser pointer which he spun in circles on top of whatever item he was speaking about, completely obscuring the item for the entire time he was speaking about it. Finally, after 20 minutes of this truly painful experience, a narrated movie started. Relieved, we thought the real planetarium show was finally starting. It ended four minutes later, and the terrible live narrator told us to have a great day. I was embarrassed for the presenter, the planetarium, and the entire museum. I was angry that I had wasted my time and money on such a truly crappy experience. I will dedicate the near future to warning people away from this gigantic failure of a planetarium. Its really sad that a city like Houston cant come up with anything better than this. AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL!!

I went to see the Black Holes showing here on a weekday and practically had the planetarium to myself, which was awesome! The staff was very accommodating as I arrived just as the show was getting ready to start, they quickly processed my ticket purchase and I think because it was so empty, they were able to seat me just as the lights were going down. The planetarium is your standard domed screen, but I gotta say the projections were very crisp! It seriously felt as if the room was moving at times! And the visuals really do encompass your entire peripheral! The show itself was fantastic and informative! I am a space nerd and am fascinated by black holes, so the fact that this showing virtually takes you into one, is just awesome, event horizon and all! My only gripe would be the running time, it was super short (I think the run time came in just under 30mins), but I am biased because I could watch something on the exploration and theory of black holes for hours! Parking can be hit or miss (there are street parking spots right in front of the HMNS if you are lucky enough to snag one! I only came for the Black Holes showing, but the rest of the Museum looks great and Id love to come and explore it thoroughly on another visit! I think the next show I will come see here is their Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, it looks like an amazing experience!

Disappointing. A 2 1/2 hour drive in and 2 1/2 hours back to see a 20 program (Black Holes). I think Burke Baker needs to talk with the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles about how to run a planetarium. Save money and time and give this stinker a pass.
