Cezanne is always amazing, but since they moved a lot has changed. First of all, location is SO HARD TO FIND, its basement of Biraporetti and there are absolutely no signs whatsoever, except Live Jazz going downstairs. Secondly, pricing is really weird. It used to be just cover charge, but now its cover charge PLUS mandatory 2 drink purchase per person (even if person is not drinking alcohol!). So for an hour of amazing jazz music you are looking to pay $90 for couple. Really steep. Hope they will fix pricing soon.

Food is tasty w/ generous servings and prompt delivery. Wait staff are more attentive than other venues; they repeat orders to ensure you get what you want. Menu is reasonably priced for downtown restaurants. We took a booth in the rear by garage exit to avoid music; the tunes were done well but too loud for people who want to talk. Glad this place survives Covid; basement Jazz not open yet.

Weve had a wonderful time at this jazz club two weekends in a row. Speakeasy vibes, as its in the basement in the back of Birraporrettis. Both bands weve seen have been a lot of fun. Lots of skilled solos with a mix of slow and fast arrangements. Get comfortable with seating up front and in the middle next to some other people. Its a little cramped, but pretty easy to navigate. Note that theres usually a $15 cover, and a 2 drink minimum per person that you prepay ($25) so its $40 per person to go. That being said, its worth it, and once you drink those, you can go off-menu and get whatever you want from the bar. You can even get snacks and whatnot brought down by Birraporrettis if youre planning on staying for both full sets. Well be back again and again Im sure.

Had to pay a cover charge which is no problem but then had a two drink minimum after that. Also fine except that we had to pay for drink tickets which was not disclosed and only covered the absolute most bottom tier of alcohol. Don t dare dream of asking for a cocktail, they don t know how to make any. On top of that, they refused to give me a glass of water to help push down the alcohol and made me purchase bottled water. The band was very mediocre, multiple solos every single song. The tables and chairs are pushed so close together that I literally could not scoot my chair to sit and the couple in front of me really needed to just get a room(not the venue s fault). Overall, absolutely not worth the almost $100 that my husband and I spent just to get in the door.

Awesome jazz; I have loved this place since their old location as far back as 2015. The new biraporetti location is working out some kinks though - be patient on the alcohol side of things.

March 2021 Cezannes temporary location is now The Glade Foundation in Woodlands. Check The Glade Foundation website events or their Facebook page or Cezannes FaceBook page for shows, and to secure tickets. The Glade is a beautiful listening space with a full bar supporting musicians, a museum and art space. Social distancing is great, the building is very spacious. If the weather is nice theres a large patio too. Plenty of free parking & easy access from I-45. Continue to come out and support live Jazz! After visiting The Glade you too will be a fan. This is my old review Nice tiny listening room for Jazz

Great place for Jazz addicts in the Montrose area. Sized like a huge main living room, it provides a regular sized bar, great drinks, seats for about 100 people and close contact to the musicians who play directly in front of you. Concerts are usually on Fridays and Saturdays, and the concerts start at 9:00 PM.

It is located upstairs in the piano room. Cover was $15 per person, card only. Must order one drink per person, per set. You can get water, which is $6. The chocolate raspberry martini (first item on the menu) is very good. Very pricey though. Music was good. Place is small. Bartenders/waitresses goes around too frequently which was distracting but aight.

I am biased because Im one of the musicians who sometimes performs here. Cezanne is the most prestigious jazz club in Houston. It is intimate, a small room and a very tight fit. If you ever wanted to be up close and personal with a jazz band, this is the place to go. The jazz performed at Cezanne tends to be art music, not dance music. The club offers an environment where skilled and talented musicians feel free to express themselves artistically. There is no pressure to appeal to the masses. We all know that the people who patronize Cezanne are there because they love and respect the art of what we do. As a jazz experience, for the patron and performer alike, this is a solid five star establishment!

We came to hear live music and waited for almost an hour due to an equipment malfunction, so we finally asked the hostess to refund the cover charge. She was rude about it. Employees of the Black Lab said that we should speak to her father who also works at Cezanne, but he was even less helpful than she was.

Came here last night, paid the cover fee, but the band didnt play because they had some technical difficulties. We had a couple of coffees and spent almost an hour there, no music. We wanted to leave, the hostess didnt want to refund the cover because we already bought drinks. Pretty bad customer service.

It s a very cozy place (I was touching the stranger next to me) with good live music. There is a $10 cover charge, and each guest is required to buy one drink per set. Bottled water (tap water isn t available) is $6.00, and there is a 20% gratuity automatically added to the bill. The music was good, and everyone is sitting so close to the musicians. I saw no problems with the hostess or waitstaff like other reviewers complained about.

Great music, horrible management. Please, please, please go here to support awesome local, and visiting, musicians--the space is amazing--just dont buy food or drink (other than the REQUIRED one drink minimum). My default tip is 20%, but when its automatically tacked on to every tab, regardless of party size, its no longer a tip. Bring a flask or pregame and then pay for a $5 (or actually $6) bottle of water.

Ok. I will start by saying this is the best place to come and listen to jazz in Houston. The drinks and cocktails are decent for the price and quality. The place is small and fills up very fast so you have to arrive 10min early before the artists begin to play. The have a nice selection of appetizers to go with the drinks. The atmosphere is eclectic and artsy. The service is slow because they dont have too many waiters so you also have to be patient.

I might go back if I want to see live music, but I would not go here just for a drink. The bartender was very busy so it took me ten minutes just to get noticed by her. I ordered a dewars (neat) and I know how much that bottle costs at specs, so I was shocked when I was charged $10 for a single pour. It took me another 10 minutes to get a menu and another 10 to place a food order. When my quesadilla finally came it was delicious. So overall it was a good night. The band was killing it and the food was good, even though I had to eat standing up. Oh, and they automatically add gratuity

Would get five stars but the drink preparation can be noisy. But its a great intimate room. Youre right up close to the musicians. I heard Eddie Lewis and sidemen, an excellent set. Cover is only $10 and I dont think theres any minimum. Most importantly they respect the music--people arent there to talk but to listen.

Music was good but everything else about the club is lacking. The seats are uncomfortable, most people dont get a table and service is sub par. The bartender was busy texting instead of serving customers. A domestic light beer was $8 after a modest tip. Bar noises like ice going into glasses can be disturbing too. If they get credit.. its for booking a good act but that is about it.

I reaaaally want to give this place 4+ stars, but the critic in me wont let me. It would be so easy for this place to make itself better because the music is great. Vibe: classy, intimate, second-floor jazz club and cocktail lounge Patrons: mostly older crowd with a smattering of young people trying to get cultured. almost everyone is on a date or double date or triple date. Things to know: go UPSTAIRS to get to the jazz music once you enter the black Labrador pub/restaurant. park in the parking garage behind the building because its free. bring cash so you can get in and out quicker. CONS: 1) there is only one waitor/waitress serving the entire place which normally has 30-50 people in it on a typical weekend night. order a drink as soon as you can and order another whenever you get the chance because youll wait 15 minutes before it gets to you (and you arent allowed to bring drinks from downstairs) 2) even if youre ordering drinks, you will still have to pay a cover charge. I think if you drop $50 on drinks, they should waive the cover 3) I love the smallness of the place, but there should be a host/hostess at the front entrance to limit how many people can get in because when its crowded, you cant move without hitting someone
