This is my second review/experience with Mike Tyson. I d hire him if i had a case and his consultations are the truth and nothing but the truth. He will tell you if you ACTUALLY need to hire him, not like other lawyers that ask you to hire them for non-sense or with no actual case I knew I wouldn t have to hire him at the moment, BUT I did need the advice/guidance urgently. The money is worth the consultation I PROMISE. I hired Mr. Tyson to represent me almost 6 months ago. I say this with a very wounded heart and a very broken soul. THIS MAN DOESNT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING EXCEPT HIMSELF. His money, his broke back, and the people that help him take money. My sons mother was going to move my son away 4 hours so I hired him. He charged me 15 thousand and we didn t even go to court. I told Mr Tyson my son was being hit in the face by his step dad and he basically didn t even care. He told me to file a CPS report and nothing happened. When we got to court we were sentenced to mediation. I didn t lift the geographical stipulation because Mr Tyson informed me not to. So instead of that happening my child support went from 1100 - 1600 a month for one child. 4 days after I lost my job. When I informed him that I lost my job he said we were done and wouldn t represent me anymore. I missed a child support payment and was back in court yesterday. Now I have yo pay almost 10 thousand dollars and I m prolly let s face it NOT EVER GOING RO BE IN MY SONS LIFE NOW because I don t even want to live no more. Mr. Tyson is selfish attorney who only cares how he his paid and how he looks. DOESNT CARE ABOUT HIS Clients. I hope he is reading this now and understands that because of him and his lack of be creative or trying to give me a single shred of ammo to fight her in court my son won t ever truly understand what happened to me. I hope someone make sure he apologizes to my son. I truly hope his office and every attorney in there including Brenda . Pay for what they have done. Just like I had to pay for hiring this selfish attorney. I WOULDNT HIRE HIM. He has zero heart.

I ve done two consultations with Matt regarding potential situations that have arisen with my custody situation. If there is such a thing as an honest lawyer (sorry not sorry), then his name is Matt Tyson. Matt was incredibly honest and realistic about my situation, rather than telling me ten different things that he COULD do (that wouldn t work) just for a payday. EDIT- Matt contacted me hours following this review. An hour after he contacted me, I received two 1 star reviews on my Google business profile, from people who work at law firms. His statement below is a lie and the conversation is recorded. The last thing I want to do is write someone a negative review. Owning a business myself, I understand the impact negative reviews can have on business. If I am writing someone a negative review, it is because there is a serious issue that has not been rectified. I am going to include a detailed review where I address major concerns but the most alarming issue is that there is almost $3000 of my $7500 retainer that is unaccounted for. For reference, I am a young professional female who went through my first divorce. I relocated from New York to Texas with my now ex. My family and friends are in New York, so I was mostly alone in Texas. When my ex filed for divorce, I was TERRIFIED. I had no idea what was going to happen and was panicking. I had a consult with Matt and felt confident in his ability to be aggressive if necessary, so I decided to retain him as my lawyer. I want to note that during the consultation Matt made a few remarks that made me pause. In one remark, he asked my age and then followed that up by saying he s not that much older than me. Although simple, it seemed a bit out of context. I thought this could be innocent as he s just trying to get a better idea of me and connect. I let it go. He told me my retainer would be $7500 for a divorce with no kids. I knew this was expensive but I was terrified and I felt confident in his abilities. I ll get into it more but let s say he was NOT aggressive, even in the least. As soon as I paid the retainer, his office became non responsive; no one would pick up the office phone and he would take days to respond to calls on his personal phone or email. I understand having other clients, but if I am paying you $7500 for what I now know was probably one of the SIMPLEST divorces a lawyer can have, this is unacceptable. My divorce required minimal work for a maximum price, the least he could have done is be responsive. As an LPC with a private practice and a fairly large caseload, I am extremely responsive and do not take multiple days to respond to a message or call. The mediator and Matt were friendly with each other. In addition to the $7500 I paid Matt, my ex and I had to pay the mediator $500, EACH. Add that to my retainer in addition to the consultation cost and that s $8250. During mediation, I asked Matt if we could ask my ex to pay for some of the legal fees. He said that my ex would not do it so we did not even ask. It s beyond me how, as my lawyer, he did not even ATTEMPT to advocate for me when given the opportunity. Mediation finished and it was basically a simple uncontested divorce with no kids. I want to note that during mediation, Matt made a comment that made me extremely uncomfortable, stating that now that I am getting divorced, I will be on the dating apps and I ll see him on there. Jumping forward to the main issue here- Matt sent me an email attaching the final decree and a refund for what was left in my retainer, $227.69. Considering my divorce was SO simple, I decided to print out and review each bill. There is over $2800 that is unaccounted for. I reviewed the bills multiple times to ensure I wasn t missing anything. I was not. Thankfully I went through the bills and picked up on these indiscretions whereas others may not. I reached out to Matt via email to let him know there was a problem we needed to discuss in person and asked his availability. He asked what the problem was and I again told him I wanted to discuss it in person. I have not heard back from him and it has been a week. The fact is that almost $3000 is unaccounted for. Everything else aside, including what I deem inappropriate comments, this is unacceptable. I gave him a chance to have a discussion with me to rectify the situation, but he stopped responding. I personally feel taken advantage of in a time when I was most vulnerable.

I chose Matt to at least consult with my husband for his case. Even though he did not allow me to be apart of it. I do completely understand why he does this. My husband loved Matt. He said he felt Matt truly listened to him and understood. He said Matt was very real. His honest opinions were hard to hear, but the truth is what we paid for. If you are going through a divorce, don t waste your money on any other attorney besides Matt Tyson. I went through a divorce two years ago. Due to emotional, psychological and other abuse I decided to not fight or mediate for anything. What was filed in May 2022 and should have been finalized by the end of June 2022 (what I was originally told) ended up being finalized in October 2022 and costing just under $6000. Then I was told I would have the paperwork to sign by the end of July 2022. I didnt see it until September 2022 and that after several phone calls and emails (with charges) just to find out when Id get paperwork to sign. Again I was not fighting for anything. I just needed out. My ex was not fighting for anything. I was giving up all rights to the marital assets. I literally just needed to get divorced and get to safety. The delays were things like he was busy with family so couldnt get back to me(June 2022) the other attorney was unreachable (? out of town-July 2022) for a month, and honestly I dont even remember the other reasons he gave. At the end ofJuly of 2022 I was told his secretary would have the paperwork ready to sign in 2 weeks. I received it roughly 6 weeks later after again several charged phone calls/emails. I feel like I was continually delayed and charged for 6 months, for a simple uncontested divorce. We had no children together and again I was giving up my rights to the marital assets. He also told me I could get paperwork done to verify I no longer owned home after divorce in case my ex didnt refinance in his own name. He said it would make it easier for me to purchase my own home later and my ex would not need to know anything about it. (I was afraid the abuse would become physical so safety was of the utmost importance). That changed to my ex had to know about it and sign papers for it (which required my address to be listed).I simply would not recommend his services. It was a sad experience to say the least.

I recently had a consultation with Matt Tyson, and I have to say that I was beyond impressed. My initial conversation was with Suzanne, and she was very kind, friendly, understanding and extremely knowledgeable, which immediately put me at ease. Matt was very honest and open with me regarding outstanding issues within my divorce decree. As we walked through the information I had, he said you re not going to like me after this call, but here s the deal While I didn t like what he said (for example, I wasn t able to achieve certain actions within my modifications ), I was so appreciative of his openness and full honesty. He even explained the ROI - and whether tackling certain things w/in my decree made financial sense (not only in attorney fees, but also emotional costs, etc ). He is not the type of attorney that is out for the money, unlike other attorneys I ve spoken with. I was in the consultation with my husband and Mike was very rude. He was not helpful and or showing support in that he could help us with our case to fight child custody. My father was on the call because we are young and inexperienced with this situation. He was trying to be a part of the call as he is very knowledgeable in law enforcement. If you don t want a third party on the call, state that in the beginning, not after a potential client brings it to your attention. You should have your clients best interest at heart and offer the help they need, which is why you get paid, instead of focusing on being annoyed. He offered no help, he was just throwing outrages prices at us. Felt very much he was not interested in the case and because of that, he showed his low professionalism. Once again, he showed no sympathy or care to our case. Questions I asked him he just kept saying, I don t know , so it was a waste of $250 dollars. I guess there was an interest more on quick profit and that s it. I sincerely and whole heartedly wouldn t recommend him to anyone looking for a lawyer to fight custody for your child.

I found him completely by accident when searching for family court lawyer about a year and a half ago now. Ive had really bad luck with the few lawyers Id had in the past and I really wasnt to optimistic with my prospects this go around, but I didnt see I had a choice in the matter at the time due to certain circumstances so I hired the first lawyer I could stand chatting with for more than 20 min and Im really glad I did. Matt has not given me any reason to even doubt my decision once. He is quick to notify of any updates or information needed, but wont waste your time and money by reaching out if theres no new info (like if youre waiting for a court date thats 3 months out and youve already turned in all your information). He told me once he HATES repeat customers, so I did the only logical thing and rehired him for a separate case which we also won for the sole custody of my other children. Matt cares very deeply for all his clients and will bend over backwards to fight for you and what you want as long as it is feasible to do so. I know how hard it is to go through a divorce, custody battle, or an enforcement and have good legal representation and someone you can trust. The moment I hired Matt Tyson to represent me I knew I was in the best hands. He showed he truly cared, he was so honest and upfront, and he was very attentive of my case. A little summary of what he did for me is as follows: My ex filed a motion of enforcement and he was seeking that I receive the max in that I do jail time for every violation which was 5, be charged penalty fines for each violation ,and that he gets full custody during the time I would be in jail if I was found guilty. My ex set me up by emailing me relinquishing his visitation due to COVID-19 and that he would not practice access until it was over. Little did I know he would then file a motion against me for in contempt of court for not allowing him access and possession. Matt Tyson reviewed my case and said this enforcement will be done in a few months. He worked diligently and updated me on everything he was doing for my case. The day we went to court he amazed me as he had a plan to reschedule and request a trial by jury. My ex husband let the judge know that he did not want this to get rescheduled as I would be keeping our kids from seeing him and Matt Tyson responded your honor we are ready today. He did SUPERB in defending me and utilized and positioned evidence to make the point clear that It would be absurd to find me guilty when the enforcement should have never been filed to begin in the first place. The judge denied my ex husband the enforcement for access and possession and that I do jail time, denied any penalties for me to pay, and denied make up time. Matt Tyson is an aggressive lawyer who truly cares and will get you results. I had previously spent so much money on attorneys in the past who did a poor job, charged me a ton, and advised me wrong. I can t say enough great things about Matt Tyson and what he accomplished in my long battle over a custody case. Matt took care of my case rather quickly after two lawyers before him drained me for all they could. I spent more than one hundred thousand dollars on this case before Matt Tyson got involved. I wish I would have found him much earlier, would have half of a college education for my three year old son already set aside. Also, all the grief and unnecessary emotional pain the previous lawyers caused by dragging this case on and on. I could hardly sleep at night for more than two long years. The two previous lawyers had my head so messed up by telling me what I could do and couldn t do. I didn t know if I was coming or going, but thanks to Matt he got my case settled without even going to court. He also returned more than half of my retainer fee. How many lawyers do that? He s the first in my experience and I ve dealt with hundreds over the course of my career. Wish I would have found Matt in the very beginning!! Please realize the gift of a star stems from the inability to provide less; regardless, I proffered $5,000 for the firm to locate the son of my fiance who had recently been taken from school surreptitiously an hour before school exited and despite his backpack bearing warnings installed by the school not to let the child leave with the man who bore no legal documentation even hinting at a relationship (birth certificate, etc). The law office informed us that the process might take some time, but almost invariably resulted in a return of considerable funds in addition to a positive custodial arrangement in favor of the mother (who in this case, raised the child without assistance of any kind from the father, nor did she even hear from the father for the over a year of the childs life). The process did indeed take an extremely long time, and when the man was found we were advised that Mediation must be completed prior to any court rulings. I was not allowed to be present, but the document she was enticed to sign (despite an obvious lack of legalese, failed to provide any of the warm sounding expectations emphasized when securing the 5000 capital, which was no insignificant sum to her, but nothing she wouldnt magnify for a reasonable settlement. When I called, admittedly somewhat irate at her treatment, I was told she got the best she could hope for since it had been months since she had visited the child. We were waiting for the law firm to track down the man who had absconded with the child. Ridiculous. In exception to this, my fiance was called after receiving Mediation papers from this man, and an offer to let her attend a birthday celebration if she agreed to get rid of her fiance (myself), in the hardly subtle expectation that she choose the man, Ill call the defendant, to take my place at her side. Instead of apologies, or the repeatedly suggested return of initial investment, I was sent an additional bill asking for half again as much with further interest charges should I not act quickly. I am uncertain as to the veracity of this final statement, but the defendant advised that all this was accomplished without his hiring a lawyer or attending the mitigation in person at all. My fiance, confirmed that the defendant remained sequestered upstairs and never spoke with her or her lawyer to her knowledge. Perhaps thats standard? If so, it seems ridiculous as well. Something stinks in Denmark, and Im afraid not so far from home if you live in Houston. Wipe this location of your map if custody is your desire.
