Spent a weekend in Galveston and Clarys was my most pleasant experience. Was given immediate seating at what was obviously the most desirable table in the restaurant. As subsequent patrons entered, they too were given priority window seating as it was available. The best seafood I have ever eaten and was equally pleased with the service. Definitely an upscale restaurant as I felt the need to walk back out to the car and change my attire after seeing how the wait staff were dressed. Prices were not upscale and the atmosphere was friendly. The owner was even out talking to guests. Would recommend too couples in particular but also great for the family.

Went with my whole family about 3 months ago. Food is not good. There were 7 of us eating, 5 of us are foodies including the 10 year old, really, she prefers her tuna steaks rare ; ) Boyfriend and I shared the app sampler so that we could try a few different things. Fried shrimp was just like Tiffany said, pre-breaded, frozen, cheap, box-style. Fish fingers were exactly like the name alludes. I felt like a 6 year old eating them. Cant remember what else came on the sampler plate. We also shared a dinner salad, boring, like olive garden...and the stuffed crab. The crab was tasty except it had lots of little pieces of shell in it which caused us to stop every few seconds and pick them out of our mouths. Which I think is sometimes just the way it goes with crab so I will let that slide. The sides, green beans for example were almost like canned green beans you know? All mushy and soft. Pretty sure the rolls they serve are store bought rolls and cut in half to make them look fancy...? My younger sister and her boyfriend shared the flounder which looked good and they said was good. My older sister and her husband got the fish of the day which I believe was the red snapper and it looked tasty. Same opinion about the staff as Tiffany also. They were nice and attentive but it was weird that the staff and tables were so fancy when everything else was not. Seems like they do fresh fish and seafood somewhat well but they just let everything else food-wise go to the dogs. They charge way too much for the quality they serve which pissed all of us off once we got our bills. We are all used to spending good money on good food, not $$ on blah food. Should have taken them to Shrimp n Stuff, lots of fried food but at least its good fried food. Wish I had made that decision that day with my family but we wanted somewhere a little more sit down family style. Would have been waaaay less awkward and waaaay more satisfying. Lesson learned.

The food was great, not much to look at out front, but once inside, it made up for the outside.

Carina Calwell pretty much summed this place up to a T, I was very leary upon entering this place as it looks very old and very run down, the entrance looks almost as if it could be a strip club. Reading some reviews about how it looks completely different inside we decided to give it a try. We walk in and it felt very hot, there were old photographs on the walls and it felt (and smelled) like an old mobile home. All the servers were dressed very formal, we had no idea this was formal judging by the outside. The plates on the tables were mismatched and dirty, the service was good however the food was terrible and very very over-priced. It was as if they were trying to be a five star restaurant but couldnt meet the mark, I actually thought it was a joke and I could hear Gordan Ramsey chewing this place out all I could do was laugh. The $22 fried shrimp looked as if it came out of a sea pak box, our $12 glass of wine was probably a $3 bottle at the store. The decor was hideous, they didnt know if it should be a sea theme or a farm theme, you get a nice view of peoples backyards and some of the water. Like I said it was a joke and it wasnt because I didnt want to spend the money, I would be glad to spend that amount in a place worth going to and food worth eating. Sorry to say this place is a dump, please re-think your decision to eat here, save yourself some money and eat at Long John Silvers instead.

My husband came to Galveston for our anniversary and wanted a nice seafood dinner. I read reviews on multiple sights all singing Clarys praises. We were hesitant when we arrived as the building is quite run down but decided to give it a chance anyway. The inside was worse, it reminded me of a mobile home. We ordered fried shrimp and the fresh fish of the day (red snapper). My husband loved the shrimp, but the snapper was very average. All the sides were below average to poor. I will just sum it up that it is very old, outdated and dingy restaurant, with poor to average food. We both felt like we were in an episode of Kitchen NIghtmares with Gordan Ramsey before he came in to save things. We are 39 and 42 and were a good 20 years younger than anyone else there. It definitely felt like our grandparents restaurant.

Took a group of 5 here last night. Its kind of a throw back place. The staff is very attentive. They were not terribly busy but regardless the service was very good. Clary paid some attention to us. He has been there for like 40 years or something. Fun character. The food was good. They brought out some peel and eat shrimp right when we sat down. They were done right with a black pepper flavor. We shared their big combo appetizer. The fish fingers were my favorite. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. The speckled trout I had was excellent. Also the stuff crab was really good. They put a ton of crab in there. You almost cant taste the breading. Its a place that doesnt look like much, but the food was pretty darn good. They try to be a little elegant with the dining room, but it looks a little tired. There were some well dressed diners in there that looked like local business folks. My group enjoyed the evening and were glad we went. Ill go back for sure.
